Hardly ever in Boca but after finishing our run along A1A and dip in the ocean we were cold! Vietnamese Pho was just what the doctor ordered for these cold and tired bones. We shared an appetizer, the fresh shrimp spring roll which was served with peanut hoisin sauce. The roles were divine. I could have ordered about 5 more. For my main course I ordered the beef balls, shrimp paste, added beef tendon, which came with mint leaves, cabbage and bean sprouts, a wedge of lime along with the piping warm bowl of beef stock Pho! Nicole had a chicken pho. I love the sauces that accompany the soups which for me are hoisin and siracha, which I mixed in a little more chili peppers oil. There was also an oil with shredded lemon grass which was equally good. Probably the most authentic pho I have had since I moved down here from Virginia in 2013. This is also perfect for assisting this cold season. The service was quick and friendly here and the environment is also very intimate. This isn't a large restaurant. Ever since my discovery of "Little Vietnam" in Orlando, I've been on the search for something local serving authentic Vietnamese food. I've found noodle shops that serve "Pho" but they also serve other asian dishes that are unrelated to vietnamese food (such as KaPow, which is great but not what I'm looking for). A little noodle bar in Boca Raton called KIN showed up on my radar but the menu didn't excite me all that much, not to mention the place was always empty. It wasn't surprising that KIN went out of business and the new owners opened BASILIC VIETNAMESE GRILL. I took a glimpse at a few pictures on yelp and I considered it worthy of bookmarking the place. Yesterday was my birthday and I wanted to skip going to our typical places and try something new; BASILIC VIETNAMESE GRILL was my second choice (the first restaurant flopped but that's another story for another time). ARRIVAL Parking can be a bit trying at times in the area so we parked in the Royal Palm Plaza (also known as the "Pink Plaza") and decided to take a short walk. As we reached the restaurant, I noticed thru the window how very white, very modern and very clean interior the place is. I know for most people this is a good thing but I was hoping for "authentic" vietnamese food. In my distorted mind, that means a bit run down and not so modern. Even though the decor doesn't match what I envisioned, I thought screw it and decided to take a table. Quite honestly, the place is lovely and very clean... I even found it odd that there was no noticeable smell. Maybe I'm nuts but I can't remember any vietnamese restaurant not having "THAT" special smell in the air (just an observation; no reflection on the food by any means). TAKE A SEAT We take a table directly in front of a well-lit salt water fish tank and begin perusing the menu. As expected much of the menu sounded foreign to me, which happens to excite me. So maybe the atmosphere contradicts what I was hoping for but on the other hand, the menu is exciting and includes very descriptive details. LET'S EAT SOME APPS We decided to begin with traditional GIO CUON spring rolls (shrimp, pork and lettuce wrapped in rice paper with peanut dipping sauce). The lettuce was crisp and the pork and shrimp were fresh... loving this simple dish. We also shared a TOM VA MUC RANG MUOI dish (crispy calamari and shrimp mixed with green and red peppers, onions, ginger slices and a red sauce on the side for dipping). The calamari and shrimp had very little batter (barely any... in a good way) and the taste without the sauce was fabulous (slightly salty with a hint of heat). Be warned the red sauce which I never identified was hot... very hot. As a mater of fact, there were two sauces on the table that made me rethink how much heat I could really handle.... great dish READY FOR MAINS The vermicelli noodle dishes caught our attention, so rather than decide on which one (chicken, pork, beef, shrimp or imperial roll) we decided to get a BUN TOM THIT NUONG combination noodle bowl (light, almost flavorless vermicelli noodles mixed with carrot, ginger, onion, cilantro, shrimp, grilled pork and a couple imperial rolls, which are similar to chinese egg rolls). The dish came with a very sweet sauce (perhaps vinegar based) that we poured over the dish and tossed together. The dish was fabulous but not loaded with flavors but it was balanced perfectly. We also shared a GA XAO SA OT lemongrass chicken dish (chicken marinated with lemongrass and chilies and cooked with onions, red peppers and green peppers served with white rice and a sweet carrot slaw)... simply delicious. WRAP IT UP For the record, the amount of food we ordered is way too much for 2 people but we were hungry, so our big eyes misled us to order too much. As we were given the bill I was talking about the lack of places that serve bubble tea and guess what... they serve bubble tea. I didn't get it this time since it I had my eyes on a brownie around the corner at Sequellas Cafe (it was my birthday after all). Everyone worked in sync with each other. Humorous exchange between LUAN and me. Efficient kitchen on a busy night, just a few days after opening. Impressive operation. MANAGEMENT PRESENCE: I met Vince, the owner. He was in control, monitoring his guest's meals, lighting, volume of music, AC temp. Hope he continues to be present, as they have another location in Ft Lauderdale, not sure if Vince will always be in Boca. FOOD: it was real good. The (gratis) shrimp crisps are addictive. The appetizer ROCKET SHRIMPS were a nice surprise. Lightly battered. Tender shrimp. Big piece of scallion. Will def reorder! The SALMON ROLLS were light, chopped veggies wrapped in a roll, with a decent sized piece of salmon on top (but within the wrap). CHICKEN WITH VEGGIES AND NOODLES. Huge serving for $15. I switched out the veggies from what was on the menu, it did not pose a problem. The sauce was not overwhelming. GRILLED SALMON over veggies was quite good, and my request for the sauce on the side resulted in the veggies being on the side also. The salmon could have been a bit larger cut, or am I expecting too much for $19? A welcome addition to East Boca. Parking can be found on the street or in public garage (it's in an apartment building but open to public and free) one block behind (east) of the restaurant. I'll revise review after a few dines. Aunt Nellie was at a loose end on this past Friday evening so we decided to take her somewhere close by to a tried and tasted place! This was my 4th time here in the past several months and I was surprised that I did not have any reviews from my previous visits all of which were very enjoyable! Sam was our most gracious host and server and was amazing as he came back several times to check on us to see if everything was OK. Great service definitely earns you that elusive 5th Star We started with the Shrimp Roll appetizer which was fresh and Deelish! This time round I tried the rare beef and brisket Pho and the soup was hearty and it was spot on tasty and the serving was generous! Hoves had the Spicy Lemon Grass Shrimp and Tofu Noodles and loved it, Aunt Nellie had the same but with Beef and did justice to the dish. In closing one word of Caution do NOT mistake this Basilic for the one in Delray Beach a lesson we learnt!! We enjoyed our meal a lot and we will definitely be back! Ordered via Uber eats . Asked for no cilantro but they gave it to me anyways.... no worries I'll just pick it out. I know how tough it is to work in a restaurant. When I started eating the soup, it was the blandest tasting soup I have ever eaten. Absolutely no flavor at all. I think they forgot to put salt in. This is the second location I have tried. Parking can be challenging I found in the evening. There is a parking garage and a public parking lot that is available within walking distance. A bit of a challenge if it is raining. I was meeting a friend for dinner. They have a tiny amount of vegan options, however enough to be able to choose something. They do offer a happy hour with BOGO wine and beer. When I walked in the floor was extremely slippery and I caught myself from falling. I told the waitress that the floor was way to slippery. I think they are using a cleaning product that makes it slippery. My friend came in to meet me, and she slipped however did not fall. Then later on two other ladies came in and slipped. And then right before we left another lady got up from the booth to walk and she slipped and almost hit the floor. So beware of the floor. I'm hoping the owner reads this and makes a change. My friend order a curry dish that she said she gets all of the time and loves. I had a vegan noodle dish that was delicious as well. We did come in under the happy hour time, so we had ordered a buddah beer. (The bottle is green glass with a buddah shape and its so cute) My friend had a glass of wine. The waitress became busy and did not come back to check on us till we were finished with our meals. So when she came to offer the check, we let her know we would like our BOGO other half of the beer and wine. She explained it was no longer happy hour, and we explained she never came back to our table. She did honor our BOGO at that point. So if you are going for happy hour, make it clear you would like your second beverage that comes along with the BOGO right away. Again, the food was delicious, so I will go back. I spot a very black wiry hair cooked into the side of my shrimp. Just a few minutes earlier, the African American "bearded" chef with no hair net or face net pokes his head around the corner... gag. Awful service. Where do I start. Got here at 7:50 and ordered immediately. One of the orders, I asked for the noodle type to be substituted. Common request that I ask at all other pho restaurants and they happily obliged. While waiting, they served some shrimp crackers which I asked for some sriracha sauce to eat them with (I know, don't judge!). First waiter didn't know what I was talking about, so he sends a female waiter. I ask for sriracha sauce again and she looks at me blankly. They send the older waiter over and he immediately knows what I'm asking for. That was our first bad sign. The service here is so slow. Almost 40 minutes later, our food finally comes out only to find out they substituted the broth instead of the noodles and so they promise to get it corrected. 5 minutes later, the correct noodle comes out, only to find out the noodles were undercooked. At this point, it's too late and we just want to eat and get over with since it had taken so long at this point. As we're wrapping up our meal, the first waiter comes over with some eggroll appetizers and begins to set it down at our table. Nope we didn't order appetizers for dessert and that mistake is then taken away. We ask for the check from the female waiter since it was getting late due to the crazy wait for the noodles, and so she begins to clear out the bowls as I was still eating from it. I kindly tell her I'm not done. 5 minutes later, she's back asking if I'm done now... She takes our bowls away, and we have to ask for the check again from the elderly waiter. As he's ringing us out, we get an alert on the phone that he accidentally charged us $90 for our 2 bowls of noodles. Never had so many mistakes happen in one restaurant in one night, plus the fact that they took more than half an hour to prepare a bowl of pho is unheard of. This is one of two places in Boca Raton to eat Vietnamese food. While it's not really the most authentic Vietnamese restaurant, the food does taste near what how my mom makes it. It is located downtown Mizner, which is a great location. The decor is very modern and custom to the downtown area. While not typical of Vietnamese restaurant, they do serve wine and alcohol. There is two entrances you can walk in which helps depending on where you can find parking. They give you free shrimp chips in the beginning and their prices are reasonable considering the area. When you are sick or hung over, there is nothing better than eating pho. I get the bubble tea and the pho beef with rare steak with tendon (for an extra fee). My friend likes to get the chicken pho with the beef broth. Usually they are always on Groupon so definitely worth trying this place if you haven't. The next best pho is either on commercial in tamarac or up north in west palm beach off okeechobee near downtown read more

I ordered the beef pho, which had great flavor and I really enjoyed it. The reason for my 3-star review is more about the restaurant, it felt run down and not clean. The bathroom was very hot, the soap dispenser was in pieces, and the floor was very slippery. Also, after eating I didn't feel well. My wife and I were pretty excited that we were going to try out a new Vietnamese restaurant since we have been on a PHO CRAZE!!! So, reading the several reviews - we decided to give it a try. As it is, one of our favorite restaurants is just around the corner. When we get here, we were not greeted right away - actually had to wait for a bit until we got seated. The person that sits us down was not our server but we did not know this as we asked for a warm SAKE, but she informed us that our server would take that order. Typically when we get to a restaurant, especially Asian or one that has seafood I let our server know that my wife is a vegetarian and I'm allergic to shellfish. Our server comes out after about 5 minutes and inform her of this yet they still give us the crunchy bread looking appetizer thing that I had a feeling was shellfish. I quickly asked the bus boy or whomever brought it out "what was it" and he responded... with shrimp or crab. So, yea - that was strike one. Service, was pretty unsatisfactory... to get their attention you had to get up and go to them as when you called out to them they would not recognize you or would rarely come around. We ordered a Vietnamese Pancake which was really good I will give them that and their PHO was also good, but i wasn't fond of the noodles as much as other places... they tasted just a bit undercooked but the soup was good and meat were good overall. Recall us telling the server that my wife was a vegetarian? Well, the server did not because she still brought out non vegetarian sauces for her which we had instructed her not do so... Overall, the atmosphere and establishment are quaint and not to loud that you wouldn't be able to carry a conversation. I just can't get over the lack of service or attention to detail which definitely lacks! Unfortunately, our experience at Basilic Vietnamese Grill was far from special. The food was mediocre at best and severely overpriced in my opinion. I understand inflation is high but it should not be 18.95 for a bowl of pho. EVER. Especially when you gave us mostly tendon and no beef. Maybe it's because it's in boca, but the prices were just unreasonable. Additionally, the "Vietnamese sauce" which is nuoc cham, was EXTREMELY diluted. Barely had any fish sauce, probably to appeal to blander palates, and mostly tasted like sweet water. Very disappointing to someone who knows good Vietnamese food. Lastly, customer service was not so great. Someone in my party had several pieces of hair in their food, and the waiter took it back and offered to replace it. This is one my favorite places to get pho in Boca. Me and my boyfriend frequent here after the beach. We really enjoy the shrimp chips you get considering not a lot of places serve those to you. I also ordered the Vietnamese Ice Coffee, which it was SUPER SWEET. The Vietnamese Coffee is usually sweeter than other coffees, but this is over the TOP SWEET..... I can only drank half of the glass. I had to end up drinking the water instead. I also ordered the Grill Chicken Pho Noodle soup. The noodle was okay, and the grill chicken was okay. The important part of a Vietnamese Pho noodle soup is the SOUP (broth), but it was Super Sweet too. I don't know why..... The overall experience was Disappointed. It was over $25.00 for lunch. Nothing is quite so disappointing as visiting your favorite restaurant only to find it has fallen from the pedestal upon which you had so reverentially placed it. A friend had previously experienced similar disappointment at Basilic. Tonight, the service was generally slow and they made a mistake with our order. To be fair, it appeared there were two new and experienced waiters and if that had been the only problem we would have accepted it without concern. We started with egg rolls. They had been left in the deep fryer a little too long. Again, no concern. My wife ordered her favorite Vietnamese crepe. It was undercooked, doughy, the meat had been cremated and some of the vegetables were absolutely raw. I ordered my favorite spicy stir fried beef. It bore no resemblance to the meal I have become accustomed to eating there. We called the maitre'd and made pleasant criticism. We asked if there were new chefs or new management. Yes, and yes on a local level was the answer. We have been loyal for four years but tonight we got second rate takeout style pap. We may give it another try in the future, but for now we will probably try somewhere else. However, I readily point out they did remove my wife's meal from the check. read more

I've eaten pho all of my life. We were a party of 6. The pho here is meh. It didn't taste great but it's the only few Vietnamese restaurants in the area. It's really overpriced here too. The wok noodles/pho ap chao wasn't marinated enough for me. The service wasn't really helpful and it didn't seem like they had a clue about some of the dishes. The chicken wings were really good though so definitely recommend. They were big chicken wings and it was a tasty flavor. Wouldn't recommend the chicken salad though. read more
