I was like Whaaaat?!? So I made a detour and walked over and noted that there was construction going on inside. Standing outside was the owner Jacob and inside sitting down was his mother, Alma. We got to taking...... he said that they are open even though they are doing some construction. He told me that they plan on serving milkshakes in the near future. I asked him how he managed to be selling Thrifty Ice Cream because Thrifty's is pretty much defunct now? He stated that he believes Monster energy drink bought them and that he was able to go through a lot of hoops to be able to franchise the Thrifty's Ice Cream brand from them. ANYWAYS he let me sample some of the flavors and I ended up getting my one scoop of childhood favorite "Rocky Road" and a scoop of Peacon Praline. Wifey also got 2 scoops. Total cost $16.64, getting to relive childhood memories $ Priceless! $ The flavors was just as I remembered them! Only the price has changed "I paid $.05 for one scoop $.10 for two and .15 for 3 in the late 60's to mid 70's can anyone else remember pay 5 cents for a scoop of ice cream!!? Boy how times have changed. Lol!!! AGAIN...ANYWAYS: if you're in the shopping center on Foxworthy, they are located between Zenato's family market and Giorgio's pizzeria right down the way from Mings Garden restaurant. This time, we came to try their dirty sodas and they are surprisingly not over the top sweet and total sugar bombs. You can get a lot of different choices of base soda, including diet, and mine was root beer based. Lots of flavor combinations. For the promotion (free small dirty soda), there were fewer choices, but enough to get something we both liked. The person at the counter was very helpful in helping us take advantage of the promotion and preparing our drinks quickly and with care. The recipes are right on the sticker that goes on the cup, so easy for them to prepare it and for you to see what goes in it. So good location, good staff, nice new product offering.

The other day, I was in the MJ Market and noticed they offered frozen yogurt. The gentleman behind the cash register also ran the Sweet Retreat counter. He explained how he makes the fro-yo, and it would take a few minutes to make a 16-oz batch. Well, those few minutes turned into 15-minutes. That's because there wasn't a backup cashier. Everytime a customer wanted to pay for something, the gentleman had to stop and go help them. Now, I don't know if that hurt the quality of the fro-yo. I ordered a 16-oz fro-yo w/ strawberries added. Price $11.50. The container was overflowing, so it was probably more than 16-oz. How was the fro-yo? It could of used a double dose of strawberries. The strawberry flavor was somewhat mild. Usually flavored fro-yo is completely blended with a tartness. My fro-yo was more like a swirl, with pockets of tart yogurt and swirls of strawberry. It was just okay, but not worth $11.50.
