This review is a two parter: First the ice cream is absolutely delicious! I went in Thursday March 26, 2026, it was warm, busy night! Now, the second part: I wasn't able to get the young lady's name, she had thirty people in line and she was all by herself!! Being formally in retail myself, on a busy Thursday night, being able to serve a long line of people with no second employee to take up some of the slack deserves a raise in my book! We stopped by the get an ice cream since it was close by. Humphry Slocombe is located in the Prunyard shopping center. It was just a small walk from Pacific Catch, where we had dinner. They weren't too busy, so we took our time trying to decide what flavor of ice cream to get. They have a lot of unique flavors. They also have a designated counter where you can stand and enjoy your ice cream inside. The young lady helping us was very nice and let us know that we could sample anything we'd like. We tasted a sample of the SF Fog. It's an Earl Grey ice cream with marshmallow fluff. It really did look like the fog in San Francisco. It was delicious. We both liked it. So we decided to get a scoop of that and a scoop of the Black Out. The Black Out ice cream is a chocolate ice cream mixed with brownies and Oreo cookies. We decided to eat it inside. The Black Out ice cream was so rich and delicious. The flavor of the SF Fog was perfect. It had a strong Earl Grey flavor. It's a perfect treat to end our evening out. read more

We go to Humphry Slocombe often, and it never disappoints. Summer is obviously the best time -- the vibe is lively, kids get to run around and play in the small play area right in front, and there are so many other food spots nearby that it's always buzzing. My go-to flavors are the salted caramel with cocoa nibs and the Vietnamese coffee -- both consistently solid and well balanced without being overly sweet. We tried this place for the first time last weekend. I really enjoyed my ice cream, which was called something like "special breakfast", a bourbon flavored ice cream with caramel and corn flakes. It was delicious. However, I didn't see another flavor that I would have wanted. And the one-scoop portion is really small, which makes this place pretty expensive for what you get. My son usually goes to this place with his friends and begged me to take him and his sister there for dessert after eating at Luna kitchen after hyping it up during dinner. They definitely lived up to the hype in my opinion. Service was great, the girl that was working let us try a few different flavors because they were all made in different types of ice cream that were made in house and not your traditional flavors. I used to beg my friends/family to trek all the way down to the Ferry Building in SF just get the sweet, sweet taste of their Secret Breakfast. One was my trusty Secret Breakfast and the other was Yellow Brick Road. It was late and the worker was incredibly sweet. The friend that I had in tow was shocked at the flavors. Ooooo wee was this an EXTREMELY sweet candy so not something you should be getting every day or even week but if you try it, you'll definitely love it. Other than that, staff was friendly and the cost per ice cream is slightly higher than your typical ice cream parlor but it comes with the higher quality so that evens it out. The Pruneyard has received a great ice cream store for people to enjoy after a dinner or date night that will satisfy any sweet tooth. It wasn't busy at all, so we had the opportunity to try the flavors to our hearts' desire. I didn't need to try secret breakfast. Love the flavor, of course, but the were just too many new flavors to try. I sampled the berry kouign amann, pepper & mint chip, honey graham, Tahitian vanilla, and brown butter. Our server was so sweet and fun to chat with. We compared notes with her on which flavors we loved and what ingredients we were tasting. I must say that the pepper & mint chip and brown butter were incredibly unique, but I settled on the brown butter because of its creamier texture and cheesecake-y aftertaste. I got it as a s'mores sundae, so it included toasted marshmallow cream, graham cracker bits, and chocolate syrup. Over the top but everything I wanted it to be. The dairy flavor of the base was able to coexist with the salt. - Birthday Cake. I liked this one, it had a classic cake batter taste and colorful sprinkles. - Cornflake Crunch. I was disappointed by the lack of cornflake and milk flavor. The "crunch" mix in tasted more like graham cracker crust. - Pink Jesus. Raspberry sorbet with lavender caramel. I enjoyed the lavender part. The tart raspberry was just okay. It was smooth in texture with minimal clumps of ice. - Peanut Butter Fudge Ripple. As a peanut butter lover, my bf was extremely disappointed with this flavor (he ordered it without sampling it first). I thought this was just okay. I typically don't love Humphry Slocombe flavors but decided to drop in because it was the nearest dessert place to where we had lunch. The lady at the counter was very dry. She was kind of rude to the customers in front of me. But as the encounter went along, she seemed fine. She doesn't have the customer service tone but said all the customer service things as she was expected to. Seemed like a person who really is just their for her paycheck. The ice cream shop itself was cute. It was nice and clean. I tried several flavors and almost walked out until I asked for one final sample...Nutella Hazelnut Praline. Came here on a Saturday night with a friend, after we had dinner at LUNA across the plaza. I've heard a lot about Humphrey Slocombe but never had the chance to try it until now. The store was empty except for us and 1 other party, so we got our ice cream right away. I tried the Malted Milk Chocolate and my friend got the Nutella Hazelnut Brittle. We got them mixed up at first since they looked so similar, but both flavors tasted great lol. I'm not usually a malted chocolate person but it was pretty mild in this ice cream so I loved it. My friend did say the hazelnut brittle chunks in hers started to taste too sweet towards the end though. We were also expecting the ice cream to be icier based on reviews here. Imo the texture was more similar to a cheaper ice cream like Dreyers vs something like Tillamook, for example, but it wasn't an issue for me. I do think it would've been more noticeable with some of the other flavors. My one complaint, if any, is that I wish they had a bigger flavor selection. I would come back if I was dining in this plaza, but don't see myself going out of the way to come here over other ice cream shops. read more

San Jose, one of the holy grails of SF ice cream is now in your backyard. Or Pruneyard, as it were. Humphry Slocombe is an excellent ice cream shop which I was fortunate enough to try and love several years ago at their original San Francisco shop. My trips to SF are few and far between, so imagine my surprise when I was checking Yelp during my recent trip back to San Jose and saw that there was a Humphry Slocombe now open in Campbell. I was able to find parking around the perimeter of the Pruneyard and took a brief walk to what I recalled as a former ice cream shop. As I suspected, Humphry has replaced the Tin Pot Creamery off the Main Street central area of the Pruneyard. They were also willing to provide samples of their 12 available flavors, so I got to try some before I felt the pressure of more incoming guests behind me. Serengeti Sunset, a jazzed-up blood orange, was a fun start; I didn't realize until later that it's a limited-time flavor to commemorate the Orpheum run of The Lion King. XXXL Chocolate happens to be vegan, and vegan can be better since there's less flavor to interfere with the rich chocolate; serendipitously, such was the case this time. Honey Graham was sweet and rich, and if I'd had more room or cold tolerance, I may have included it in my order. In the end, I defaulted to two familiar flavors for my Double ($8.50) cup. I neglected to specify which flavor should go on top, so I dove into Vietnamese Coffee first. It was as rich and milky as you would expect to taste in a sweeter take on Vietnamese coffee. The texture was creamy, and unlike some reviewers experienced, it didn't have any odd salty aftertaste. I did overhear the manager saying that the ice cream is produced off-site in either SF or Berkeley, so perhaps they had an off-batch? I found nothing wrong though. Then it was time for their flagship flavor, the Secret Breakfast. I would give 5 stars for access to Secret Breakfast alone, and they delivered. The bourbon and caramel are a fantastic combo and thoroughly satisfied my taste buds despite how cold the weather was. The corn flakes are fun too, although they kinda felt more chewy than crunchy. Pricing is just fine compared to other high-end ice cream shops. And by that, I mean Salt & Straw. But please note that they don't offer Secret Breakfast over there. Humphry Slocombe is an awesome destination for ice cream. I'm so glad that the drive is much shorter for me now when I'm back home in San Jose with family. read more

The nice thing about this place is that they update their flavors a lot! They do scoops (cups) and cones. I tried a lavender flavor and milk and cookies flavor ice cream here and it is delicious! They do let you sample the flavors so that was the nice thing. Prices are really good for the proportions you get too. It's kinda hidden under a two story plaza(first floor) But the door was open and I like the graffiti art. There are stalls but no chair to eat ice cream, so it's more of a grab and go place.
