Oops... you did it again! Bastina has officially become my newest addiction. Our studio is right next door, and I swear I can't walk past without stopping to peek through the window with wide eyes. Some days I literally have to hurry by, or I'd be in there snacking all day long. It reminds me of those charming little Italian neighborhood "paninoteca" sandwich shops you'd stumble upon in Italy , the kind where everything is fresh, made with care, and you instantly feel like a local. I've eaten at Basta for years. It's one of my favorite Italian restaurants. I was excited to try Bastina and stopped in today for the first time. Ordered a couple sandwiches and and took a couple meatball containers and a short ribs home. Set the bag on my back leather seats and headed home. The chilled containers had enough condensation to make the bottom of the paper bag wet and soggy. The shortrib container wasn't apparently sealed all the way and spilled all over my tan leather seat. Called Basta and spoke with a female and explained what happened, mainly to encourage them to consider another alternative. She laughed, said they can't use plastic, and that they can't be responsible for how I drive. Wow. So, if you take any of their saucy items home, make sure to bring some type container to protect from spillage and I guess set on the floor (eww) rather than your seats. Turkey panini: 3/5- way too oily and too much spread. I won't get again. Chicken panini: 5/5 Meatballs: 5/5 Short Ribs: My 90 y/o parents loved them for dinner last night. read more

We went to Bastina this morning to pick up some sandwiches for the road and both sandwiches were AMAZING!!! I ordered the Niccolo and it was simply divine. My husband ordered the Bastina and it was equally as delicious. The owners of Basta and Bastina deserve all the praise and success! Truly amazing food and amazing service. We walked over to Bastina after having dinner at Basta. I picked up a Maldon smoked sea salt, cookies and beverages. They offer fresh pasta, sauces, salads (including my favorite octopus salad), vegetables, cheeses, cured meats, paninis and prepared lasagnas, meatballs, and parmigiana to go! Favorite foodie opening of the year! Not just sandwiches, but amazing fresh pastas made infront of you, sauces, breads, spices and more! While raviolis are made daily at the from counter, you can order fresh sandwiches, sliced meats and cheeses. I got to try a few sandwiches and salads, the niccolo is their take on a chicken parm with vodka sauce, and it's great! Great portion of chicken and the sauce has the perfect kick of spice. Up next was the basting, which was also a hit! Definitely getting it again. And last, their Italian chopped salad, jam packed with toppings. I also ordered fresh pizza dough for a party, and was able to get my new favorite gluten free dough, and freshly baked gluten free focaccia. It's always nice to have options that all your guest can enjoy, and bonus when it tastes as good as it looks. As Saverio says, "Now that's quality!" Basta in a smart business move has opened up a small little location next to its Agoura restaurant location where you can buy fresh pasta and sauces to go. Lunchtime and having a sandwich there is a must. As long as prices stay competitive and not too expensive, I think the concept will work and be a huge success. Yesterday, 4/18 was the soft opening of this Saverio Posarelli and Devon Wolf, an adorable husband and wife team, of Basta, sandwich and Italian market spot. You'll find their proprietary oils and sauces. We sampled the short rib sandwich and shared a cookie. Both were sumptuously delightful. We also grabbed a pizza dough rolling pin with the signature Bastina logo. In a community that continues to want fine dining but struggles to keep it due to high rents. Everything looked amazing, the freshly baked breads, the pasta, the salads, the sauces and ready to take home meals. So much to choose from. This shop came highly recommended by a friend who is a big fan of Basta, and insisted that the food is comparable to Italian food from his hometown of Rome. We decided to give it a try and it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I had the bologna and you could tell from the first bite that each individual component was of the highest quality. It's a blessing and a curse that I live far enough away from here that I can't just stop by whenever I want. That said, I will definitely be back to try more sandwiches. It was hard to resist the urge to get more than one because I wanted to eat half of their options just from reading the menu alone. read more

I hate how good the Daviola is. I went here to try a sandwich and grab some gluten free stuff for my roommate and ended up finding a new addiction. I knew their restaurant next door was great, but this grab and go spot is also great. Looks like I'm coming back to try one of the other sandwiches as well. Be prepared to be overwhelmed by the options there of fresh pasta choices and grab and go stuff. Wouldn't be a terrible thing if they weren't so friendly that you panic order and then regretted not getting more stuff. read more

Oh my goodness, we were beyond excited for the eggplant parmigiana we brought home for dinner tonight. Sadly to say it turned out to be more like a parmigiana parmigiana with a hint of eggplant. And pretty sure it was the thin type of eggplant used which is nice for less bitterness and no need to peel, that said they need to use a lot more eggplant to make it work. read more

I'm only halfway through the sandwich I just picked up at Bastina, but find it necessary to pause and write my review. Eccezionale! My wife and I travel extensively in Italy, and it's a struggle to find authentic versions of Italian food when we return. The bread is often the downfall domestically, but not in this instance... the focaccina is perfect. My sandwich was loaded with unctuous porchetta, savory rapini and a pecorino crema. It's very likely I will return tomorrow to sample another... Highly recommended! read more

This is the best coolest place in town. It's like a NYC bodega or European cafe. Bastia uses the highest quality of food, you can taste it, even better, the woman who runs it, possibly owns it, was the pastry chef at Basta, she is the best. The amount of LOVE that she puts in her food, makes it all worth it. You can feel her smile and love for cooking, when you are enjoying some Tiramisu, an Italian Donut, or some butterscotch pudding. The texture and flavor is ridiculously good and perfect, and you can feel the smile she had while making these delicious custards, when you take a bite. The sandwich's, bread and everything else I have had is also absolutely amazing. It's great to see a human so extremely passionate with so much love for thier craft, because you don't get that too often these days. So i recommend you go there, and make100% sure , that you get a desert, you can thank me later. The staff are all very nice and happy, so the whole experience is great. I had to come back and leave another review because Bastina continues to impress me every time I visit. This time I tried the Chicago and Parma sandwiches, and both were outstanding. The ingredients are incredibly fresh, the bread is phenomenal, and everything tastes like it was made with care and authenticity. It's not easy to find sandwiches that transport you somewhere else, but these absolutely do. What really sets Bastina apart, though, are the people. Elda and Severio are some of the warmest and most welcoming owners you'll meet. On one visit, they even made me a special meatball sandwich that wasn't on the regular menu, and it was incredible. That level of hospitality and attention to customers is rare these days. It's clear they're passionate about what they do, and it shows in every sandwich they serve. Bastina has quickly become one of my favorite lunch spots, and I'll keep coming back until I've worked my way through the entire menu. read more

Veronica provided excellent service and made a fantastic recommendation: the Chicago on a hard roll, which was absolutely delicious. Basta 10 out of 10 .. Bastina 0 out of 10 . We always enjoy going to Basta restaurant in Agoura. Food is excellent , prices are great, and most of the time service is fantastic... now comes the sad part of the review : 1 Lb uncooked pasta to go = $32.00 !! 1 Lb uncooked spaghetti = $27.00 ! 3 small spoonfuls of pasta nest = $21.00 ! Note :Basta (same owner ) the restaurant next-door you can sit down , be table served , silverware, napkins, water, etc in order a complete meal for about $25 or less . Example. : we always order the mixed seafood on a bed of fresh homemade pasta , the same pasta they sell next-door for $27 per pound .. and it comes with a great assortment of fresh seafood, fish, shellfish, shrimp, etc. . The price if I remember correctly is only $26. . So in other words, the price in their take-home outlet Bastina is way out of line. . But that's not the bad part. We're standing in line looking at their selection and the person cutting the pasta and measuring it into portions was rubbing his fingers in his hair and not wearing gloves while he portions out the food . It was gross. . Another employee working with dark hair there has a beard and was wiping sweat off his brow behind the counter . I think all employees working in a fresh food industry should have covered all the hairs and wear gloves to make it much more sanitary . It was a real turn off and obviously we didn't buy anything. We walked out and we were very disappointed in their new venture. . I hope the owner reads this and straightens out their act. Because I do want to see them succeed. read more
