The server and service was 10/10 amazing but their food and drinks were not good. I got the sausage Cavatelli alla Norcina, and the cocktail 'Italiano 75'. They both tasted strange. The Cavatelli barely had any sausage, only about 3 thinly sliced bits, and had an overbearing tangy aftertaste. The Italiano 75 drink tasted like a rubber tire. Perhaps it was the items I ordered, I will try other menu items next time. We had a party of 8, called in to notify them, they told us to just come in because they don't take reservations. We had dinner with family and friends here one evening and it was fantastic! We ordered the Tagliatelle Al Ragu (slow braised beef and pork pasta), Cavatelli alla Norcina (grilled sausage with truffle sauce pasta) and the Grilled Whole Branzino. All the dishes were fantastic, you can't go wrong with any of them. The pastas were al dente with that soft chewy texture. The sauces were so flavorful and just right! The grilled branzino had the light crispiness to it and soft flaky meat. You start off with a bread basket that was perfectly toasted and soft. The staff and service were top notch! Very friendly and attentive. Our waitress was the best! Always checking in on us and giving us recommendations! The restaurant was very clean with its modern decor. My friend wanted to try Basta because he saw they offer 2 and even 4 pound steaks. We come in and right by the host area we see the dry age steak fridge with some pretty tasty looking options. Once we're seated we let the waiter know we're in the mood for a ribeye over t-bone. He brings over the remaining options they have for the night. Overall the food, and service were great. Street parking with relatively easy. Descendent to randomly come in for dinner and was promptly greeted/shown a table. The ambience outside and inside is great. Very modern with a nice vibe. Arugula & Burrata salad, Basta Chop salad, Watermelon Salad, Pizza Margherita, Burrata Pizza, Basta Vodka Pizza, Basta Burger and the Focaccina Jidori sandwich (LOVE THIS!). While I eat at Basta at least twice a month for lunch (it really is great!), I don't go to Basta for dinner anymore because they refuse to cook their meats beyond rare. Basta Thousand Oaks, has been a go-to for many reasons and it starts with the Service. I have been in many times for lunch and dinner and both Daniele and Josh are fantastic. They make you feel like it's a small neighborhood restaurant with the modern Italian feel, knowing your name, usual orders etc. Then there is the food, top quality and very delicious. At this point I have probably had close to the entire menu and I can't say that I have had one thing that has been bad. My personal go-to for lunch is the Power bowl and for dinner is the Cauliflower to start and the Pappardelle with Meatballs for my main course. I went with someone who has been several times before. Their rave reviews lived up to their hype. The pasta was cooked perfectly (for my taste) and that sauce was so so good. The meatballs are wonderful, great that they mix beef & pork. My favorite was the pizza, classic margherita. The crust was so good, quality artisanal rustic pizza. Solid restaurant and I will be coming back as they have an extensive menu that must be explored! We kept with a pasta theme for the night as it was our first time here. We had the Paccheri Piccanti and Gnocchi Mantorani. Both were solid pastas, but I did regret not going for their burger after I saw one pass me by. The app of Fritto Misto Di Mare was tops for us and had to be one of the better calamari I've had, being crispy but not overwhelming oiled. The service here was fun and the staff really knew their stuff (menus and daily special). The location of the restaurant is prime on TO boulevard and has a nice scenery. Street parking was our first option, with others being valet or parking lot (but park at your own risk!). Overall, a solid outing and would go again to try other items on the menu (such as their pizza or steaks). The vibes here were also nice, modern, and elegant! read more

I saw plenty of great reviews so not sure if it was just an off day or what, but not one dish we ordered had any flavor. We ordered two of the pastas on special (which were shockingly ~$40 each, way over priced for what was given for at least one of the pasta dishes) and a side of mushrooms. One pasta dish was a squid ink seafood pasta and the other was a spinach pasta in mushroom cream sauce. Not one thing was seasoned. I don't even think salt was used. Been to Basta several times, and it's been great each time. This time, I got some of the same food items I've had before, and some I tried for the first time. Repeats are pizza and cauliflower. The pizza always hits the spot. Maybe a tad too thin, but the taste is amazing. The mushroom one is my go to. Cauliflower-I feel like the roastedness wasn't quite as good. As for new items, I tried the short ribs, squash, trout, and sticky toffee pudding. The short ribs wasn't so tender and flavor was alright. The squash was also decent. Good to try but wouldn't get again. The sticky toffee pudding was AMAZING tho. I love desserts, and this one hit all the marks for me. Not so sweet pudding balanced out with the toffee and ice cream. I'd come back just for it. Outside is usually where I sit, but there was some construction at that time so sat inside which is pretty cozy. Service is pretty good. I met up with some friends for dinner. They were pretty busy but since it was only 3 of us they sat us down right away. The space is semi compact so once sitting down I felt a bit confined to the space and felt a little tight. Our waiter was nice and attentive but def not like the other waiter who I noticed was more engaging and seemed to enjoy his interactions with his customers. The menu is a good size and they have nice choices to pick from. We got the bruschetta with sausage as an appetizer, it was delish. I ended up with a simple vodka sauce pasta that was Ok. I shared a New York steak with my sister. Our wonderful server, Daniele, seasoned our steak at the table with lemon juice, salt and pepper - yum, cooked rare, just as we requested. My new favorite restaurant in TO!!! I was stoked to hear this location opened after always hearing how hard it was to get into the Agoura location. We easily parked on the street right across from the restaurant, although they do have valet available for $8. I am an absolute pasta snob as Italian is my favorite, and the CAVATELLI ALLA NORCINA (Cavatelli, Black truffle sauce, Basta grilled sausage, pecorino) was one of the BEST pasta dishes I have had in so long, and even in general! As someone who used to dislike truffle until a few years ago, the flavor was absolutely perfect - not too overbearing, but strong enough to know it was a main component of the dish. The pecorino was deliciously nutty, and the sauce was so perfectly creamy! The sausage was delicious as well! We also got the BASTA RUSTIC GEM SALAD which was light, refreshing, and had a great dressing. This was the perfect contrast to a hearty and creamy pasta dish. My grandpa opted for the special of the night - the Ossobuco with pappardelle and we loved that was well! All of the pasta tastes like it's homemade, and the portions are very fair for the price. Ivan was a great waiter - he had my favorite quality of being friendly, personable, and of course professional! The other man who helped clear our plates and refill our waters also had my other favorite quality - we never once had to flag him down for a water refill, he was on it! On a few hot August day, this was very appreciated haha. Oh and a complementary bread basket is serviced to start, with oil and vinegar bottles at your table! This is a cute quaint restaurant and was very clean. Had a business lunch here and it wasn't too crowded. Our server was phenomenal and gave really good suggestions. I ended up getting the Pescatore bowl and it was absolutely delicious. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and not overcooked. And the broccolini also was fresh and cooked just right. I also had the watermelon mojito which was absolutely delicious. It was very refreshing and the alcohol was not overpowering. Perfectly mixed and made. So sad I'm only here on business but when I come back I will definitely be coming back. The place has that rare combination of energy and warmth where you instantly feel like you picked the right restaurant for a special night. Our server, Lianna, absolutely made the experience. She knew the new summer menu inside and out and somehow managed to make every recommendation sound irresistible without ever feeling pushy. The Gem Salad with diced asparagus was fresh and delicious, but after watching the watermelon salad float past our table all night, we officially admitted she was right and we should've listened. I have to say that I like this location better than Agoura because the staff is more welcoming, better ambiance and the food just tasted better. We got an expresso martini, la dolce vita passion fruit, and limoncello which tasted great. The short ribs, tagliatelle, and cavatelli was delicious. The dessert special for the night was passion fruit panna cotta and ferro roche cake that was fun to try. I was surprised they charged me $3 for bread. The bread wasn't anything special and a few pieces that were hard so I wouldn't recommend this item. Everything cost $155 before tax and tip. I love that this location is near and parking wasn't a problem. You can valet or park on the street and walk over to get your steps in. The atmosphere was casual fine dining. We went for our anniversary in normal clothes and didn't feel out of place. Very welcoming. The aged ribeye was the best steak I've had outside of my house (maybe ever). The Basta Vodka pizza was far an above any other pizza we've had in the area.
