    Roasted Cauliflower

Basta is our new favorite Italian restaurant in the area. Service is very warm and friendly, portions are hearty, and the food is delicious. We came for a celebratory dinner and had cannellini bean hummus, roasted potatoes, roasted cauliflower, whole rotisserie chicken, truffle pasta, caprese pizza, and gluten free carrot cake for dessert. The hummus was a very large portion and came with cucumber and fresh bread. The cauliflower was a whole head of cauliflower cut into thirds with a golden raisin vinaigrette. We were nearly full after just the appetizer. All our entrees were very well-liked, and we ended up taking home leftovers of everything. The gluten free carrot cake came with vanilla gelato and was very good. Ambiance is bustling, busy and loud. It's a casual, and don't necessarily expect a quiet romantic type of atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

My boss was treating my girlfriend and I to dinner to celebrate and we were delighted he chose Basta. We were delighted with the warm reception and nice atmosphere. While there is no reservations, we decided to wait at the bar for a table but just ended up staying at the bar to dine. Their bartender was new to the role but seemed very knowledgeable about their menu. She was efficient with our cocktails, beer, all while also overseeing our dinner and appetizers. We ordered hummus, meatballs to start. The hummus was delicious! We scraped the plate and enjoyed the meatballs as well. They we're generous portions and put a dent in our appetite. For our pastas, I really savored the cavatelli. It's creamy short grain pasta had lovely salty flavor, and in my option outshined my girlfriends tagliatelle. My opinion was confirmed when she asked to switch plates after trying my dish. lol. Overall the dinner was amazing. I'd like to comeback to try more cocktails and their steak plates which is have heard are phenomenal.

Had a fantastic dinner at Basta after snagging a seat at the bar and settling in next to a chatty, terrific couple of folks. The atmosphere is lively and casual, yet warm and welcoming. A very comfortable restaurant. The bartender, Heather, was friendly and very attentive, handling everyone with a great degree of humor, and always remembering everything thrown at her -- a total pro. I started with a gin martini, which was expertly made, and followed that with Wagyu Carpaccio. Let me tell you, having recently paid a fortune for the "original" carpaccio at Cipriani, this version at Basta was far better tasting and a far more generous portion for less than half the price. The meat was slightly seared at the edges but perfectly pink inside, packed with flavor and tender as could be. A fantastic bite. For my main, I had a pasta dish that's enigmatically named "The Brian Bowen Smith." This is al dente spaghetti in a deeply rich tomato sauce with grilled octopus and bone marrow. Yowza!!! From the texture to the myriad levels of flavor, this is a spectacular dish of pasta, and, again, a huge portion for just $26. It's important to note that the real specialty of the house is large format steaks, up for 4 pounds, and cooked over live fire in the traditional Italian way. I will be coming back soon with a gang so we can jump into the steak -- but go anytime for the pasta, the amazing looking pizzas, and a whole menu of food that calls out your name. A great meal!!

I'm not one to post negative reviews, but this experience felt worth sharing for others considering Basta in Agoura Hills. My intention is not to criticize unfairly, but to provide constructive feedback that could help improve the overall experience. ATMOSPHERE (3 Stars) Basta has a nice, casual interior and a lively atmosphere. The place was busy and packed when we went, which usually feels like a good sign. We sat at the bar and ordered food. THE FOOD (2 Stars) My girlfriend ordered the Pappardelle , and her friend ordered the cavatelli alla norcina. Unfortunately, the cavatelli came out cold and watery --something I later noticed had been mentioned by another Yelper as well, so this doesn't seem like an isolated issue. Overall, the food was fair--nothing terrible, but nothing memorable either. THE SERVICE (1 Star) The service from the bartender (4 stars) was good--friendly and attentive. However, the experience took a sharp turn because of an interaction with the manager. Out of nowhere, he leaned over and asked my girlfriend if she had said something to him. She looked genuinely confused, and he then said she was a "class act" for saying it. The problem is: she hadn't said anything to him at all. The accusation came without context or explanation, and it felt completely unprovoked. The way the manager handled this was inappropriate. He invaded her personal space, came across as rude, and left her feeling intimidated rather than welcomed. Regardless of whatever misunderstanding he thought occurred, that's not how you speak to a customer--especially when no issue was raised in the first place. As we were about to leave, the manager came by again and said there must have been a misunderstanding. It was clear this wasn't a misunderstanding at all, and notably, there was no real apology. My girlfriend also tried to speak with the owner about what happened, but he brushed it off, which was disappointing and dismissive. While the food was just okay, the bigger issue was the management. That interaction--and the lack of accountability afterward--overshadowed the entire visit and seriously impacted what could have been a decent experience. Customer service matters, and unfortunately, the manager missed the mark.

This establishment is in the simplest terms, absurdly delightful. The sort of place that convinces you, after one bite of pasta and half a glass of wine, that perhaps all of life's troubles are merely temporary inconveniences. The vodka pasta was so outrageously good. I also partook in the truffle pasta and the meatball pasta, both of which arrived at the table with the confidence of dishes that know full well they are superior. And the butterscotch pudding .... sweet heavens.... possessed the kind of richness that could mend broken relationships and restore faith in humanity. A grand and noble salute must also be given to Josephina, patron saint of excellent recommendations and remarkable patience. She was endlessly kind, attentive, and charming, and every suggestion she offered was a triumph of culinary wisdom. May God bless you, Josephina. May your coffee always be hot, your parking always nearby, and your days forever peaceful.

Poor service but delicious food. But I got to watch 2 great World Cup matches on the big TV's at the bar.

They were able to accommodate our group of 6 on their beautiful shaded outdoor patio that felt like being transported to Italy. All their food is ethical, humane & sustainable and very tasty, though the portions were a little small for the price. The server was very friendly and happy to answer all our questions and they were able to split the check.

Fantastic ! I have reviewed this place so much over the years because it's a main staple for me in the area. Both Basta locations are excellent but the Agoura location is still the best for me. The energy always seems more inviting here plus the shopping stores around it make it more traditional. Basta is Always a fun, not overly priced and reliable Italian meal. Everything on the menu is absolutely fantastic. Believe me, I have literally tried it all. Yet on tonights menu, I noticed something new. I tried a new pasta dish, oh it was so spicy and brought new found tastes for me.. absolutely excellent! To get it right, I had to show the dish below. STRASCINATI 3 POMODORI Rolled Handmade Pasta, San Marzano Corbarino Confit Tomatoes, Calabrian Chili Pepper, Parmigiano Reggiano DOP I love that the restaurant occasionally infuses seasonal type dishes to it's consistent lineup. I think that would be even more fantastic if they start doing that more. Imagine, what will be on the menu this upcoming week/month? Your client base would be even more excited and even more driven to come back in. I think the specials and menu could further evolve more creatively/ seasonal but that's just a personal opinion coming from someone who eats a ton of Italian food. Eitherway, always a fantastic meal at Basta. It's also always nice to talk with inviting staff about food and Italy too. Oh, I almost forgot- don't forget to try the butterscotch pudding for desert. Just saying........ Thank you

Ask the Community - Basta Restaurant

Do u have a happy hour?

Hello- no, I’m sorry we don’t.

Does Basta's meat sauce have diary in it?

The meat sauce itself doesn't have dairy but pasta listed in the menu with meat sauce we do add cheese after. if you have any allergy we recommend calling the restaurant to do some modifications

    Is there a happy hour?

Hi there. No, we do not have a happy hour. We have great cocktails and full dining available.

We went tonight and had the pizza pasta and steak, does any of your menus items contain nuts?

I'm not sure and it would depend on the choice. Ask your server

Can we bring our dog to the outside patio at dinner time?

I would call, but I don't think I have ever seen a dog on the patio. Maybe when they had the lower level open? Even then, I don't recall seeing dogs. It is a super busy restaurant, tight areas, probably not the best place for a pet to dine with…

Recommendations for vegan or dairy free options?

Hi there. We do have several vegan items, including cannellini bean hummus, olives, salads (without cheese) and Zoodles without cheese. We also have several vegetable sides. In addition, we offer pizzas with vegan cheese. Thank you.

    Do they have happy hour?

    No, we don’t.

Do they have a kids menu?

Yes they do. It has pasta and pizza.

How much is the corkage fee?

    $30

How much is the Fiorentine the KIng?

    185$

    Do they take reservations now?

Hi there. We do not take reservations. We are strictly walk in. We do take reservations on major holidays though. Thank you

Do they except reservations right now?

Hi there. We do not take reservations only walkins. Thank you

What is the price range? Menu on website has no prices.

Slightly lower than expected and compared to other Italian restaurants in TO, AH and WV.

The vibe is industrial and low-lit, like the kind of bar where the walls have stories but won't snitch. Small space, metal-and-concrete aesthetic, but somehow still warm and cozy. Perfect for a date night or a "let me mentally unpack my life over cocktails" hang with my best friend. What keeps me coming back? The bartenders actually listen. I can walk up and give the vaguest description -- "classic but not sweet, strong but not too whiskey-forward, smooth but still gives main character energy" -- and they'll just... create it. They've made me drinks that aren't even on the menu -- Army Navy, Aviation, etc. -- and every single one was spot on. They always manage to find the right drink for me, which is honestly a skill more people should have. The servers are genuinely nice, the liquor selection is solid, and the energy is chill without being pretentious. I've also heard there's a speakeasy hidden in here somewhere, and trust me, one day I'll find it like I'm unlocking a side quest. Definitely one of my favorite bars in Thousand Oaks -- industrial vibes, great people, and bartenders who match drinks to my personality better than most men can.

Cool photo ops all around. They had a trivia game scrolling over the bar which is always fun. Lots of lounge seating great for smaller groups to drink and chat. That being said there were some things I didn't anticipate and wasn't prepared for: -not enough accessible parking very busy for a Friday night. When I arrived at 6:45pm valet parking was already full -no AC in the venue- two ceiling fans. It was unbelievably hot inside. -seating at the tables near the stage requires dinner service and there were 10 adults seated at an 8 ft table. Just impossible. The tables were end to end. No space to move. I was seated between two men and our shoulders were touching and everyone is trying to eat dinner. I was having a panic attack so my friend got us moved. -the meal was ok and so were the drinks. We had to purchase dinner and 2 drink minimum in addition to the price of the concert ticket. I knew this when I made the purchase but had no idea what the food was going to be like. - my meal was blackened Salmon. Which was good but a very small piece of salmon. The garlic mashed potatoes were ok however my veggies weren't steamed they were too hard. The entree was $42. No salad, bread or dessert option. I think this was very pricey for what I received. Despite what bothered me above. I had a great time after we moved our seats away from the stage and got to finish our meal with some elbow room. There isn't a bad seat in the entire venue so I am not sure why they cramped all the tables like they do. The space allows for lots of walking around so you can visit with friends- which I did. The venue is accessibility friendly. The entertainment was amazing and I have to mention all the staff working that night were very accommodating. They checked on me a few times. The staff Zoe, Ryan and Marco were all so very helpful. Including Robin the sound engineer-he was friendly as well. I will return if another act I want to see is playing at The Canyon Club. Before my most recent show, it was a venue I looked forward to visiting. However, it had been a bit of time since I was last at the club and things have changed. Unfortunately, after the show I attended on July 31, I may not be back. Please note that this review is for the venue only, not the show itself. While there is a large parking lot, and parking is free, it was very difficult to find a space. We drove around for about 15 minutes before we were able to see someone leaving a parking space that we could grab. On the day of the concert, the temperature was 100° F outside, or possibly a bit higher. When we arrived at the venue, we found that it does not have refrigerated air conditioning - just some fans. It was uncomfortably hot inside. If I had known this would be the case, I'd have brought a portable personal fan. It's hard to believe that a venue that holds up to 1,200 people does not have legit air conditioning. For those that would like a seat, you have to purchase dinner along with your concert ticket. The dinner selections are very limited and pricey. There is no longer drink service at the tables, so you must head to the bar for drink orders. Since the tables are packed so tightly together, this is not the most convenient situation for patrons. Also, if you use a credit card for your purchases, you will be charged an extra service fee. The bartenders Gus, Zack, and Lindsay were great. They provided friendly service and were a lot of fun. I felt bad that they had to endure the uncomfortable hot working conditions while taking care of everyone. I rarely leave a one-star review. It is really a shame that the club owners don't value their guests and artists to keep the venue comfortable. For the price of tickets, food, and drinks, we really deserve a better experience.
