I was told by a co worker years ago that Rustico was his favorite place for Italian food and I needed to try it. We were attending a celebration of life not far from this amazing restaurant and since we were dressed up I felt like enjoying dinner out and remembering what my co worker mentioned I thought let's do it. Though it was a Saturday evening and we didn't have a reservation I called asked if they were accepting walk ins, a brief hold and the hostess said when did you want to come in and I stated I could be there in 10 minutes-she said she could seat us. I was so excited that we were going to be able to dine and let me tell you it was a truly wonderful delight. My co worker and fellow paisan was so right and why the hell did I wait years to try this place. We were seated at a 2 top set up very elegantly and our server David was quick to greet us and fill us in on the nightly specials and his favorite dishes. We started with a Aperol Spritz and a Lemoncello Spritz (by the way Rustico makes the Lemoncello in house). Great start to cleanse our palate, complimenting the bruschetta and I have to say I haven't had anything better than their bruschetta short of our trips to Italy. I went with several nightly specials such as the grilled octopus and calamari salad, very tasty and incredibly prepared. Followed by the Almond crusted Sole, my wife enjoyed the house made tortellini in a light cream and pancetta sauce. David our server was very attentive not only to just our table but the nearby tables as well, friendly smiling and so helpful, an important quality in a server rarely found these days. Our entrees were incredibly delicious and portions were good size, the decor and ambiance very familiar and reminded me of some of the ristorante's we dined at in Italy. Very simple but elegant, very comfortable. I had the pleasure of meeting Roberto who seemed to be the key person to the operation, I wanted to compliment our evening and share our wonderful experience with him. He was so nice and friendly as well. The menu had so many great choices and the nightly specials change often that I just need to come back again and again to continue enjoying Rustico. The food was incredible and place is beautiful. When the manager was in the servers were buzzing around and attentive- the moment he left for the night our evening fell apart. Our server took our order once our daughter's food had already arrived- she was done and wanted to go home before our own food arrived. She did love her dinner. My husband ordered the short rib but it arrived with no veggies and it took flagging down a busser 10-15 minutes after food had dropped. Our sever never came until then. I requested a drink at this time that wasn't brought to me until the bill was delivered at which point both my daughters were asleep. I sent it back. Very under-rated and hidden Italian family style restaurant in the Conejo Valley. The strip mall is sort of dead. But once you enter Rustico, you are immediately transported to a world that feels like a night out in an Italian American movie. The pasta is al dente, gravy is rich and flavorful and the pork chop is to die for. Frittura Mista is perfectly fried light crispy but not greasy. Tricolor chopped salad is outstanding especially the balsamic base dressing. Manager's warm hospitality and sense of humor is right out the Big Night. Waiter is very knowledgeable of the menu. Great wine by the glass options. Basta use to be my favorite Italian restaurant in the area. I think I now prefer Rustico. Buon appetito! read more

Excellent Italian restaurant in agoura/oak park! I went here for my birthday dinner, the staff was very accommodating and friendly. They had a ton of different specials to choose from. Meeting friends for dinner and conversation. Our friends eat at Rustico often and recommended it highly - they were right. There are at least 3 rooms - a bar at the entry, a main dining room, and a smaller room that they could close off. The main room had a guitarist who played soft background music most of the night. Very nice!!! George K, our server, came by shortly after we were seated - very friendly and welcoming. The busboy brought complimentary bruschetta and a bread basket while we were reviewing the menu - nice touch (though filling up on the bread before the main course is less than smart - my bad). Service remained excellent throughout the evening. I went with the special risotto with mushrooms and sausage ($30). Quite good. My wife went with the special pappardelle ($30). Also quite good. We had such a nice time. Food was excellent. I cannot wait to go back and try the Branzino. On this, our first visit we started a creamy tortellini. It was excellent. We also shared a pizza with was fine. Next time I will aim for the Branzino and pasta dishes. We also split a Ceasar salad which was just okay. Nothing special. We just had such a lovely time because of the atmosphere. Out waiter was great. The people we sat next to were so fun! Everyone was in a jolly party mood and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We have been coming to Rustico for 15+ years and there are no words to describe the (1) hospitality, (2) warmth, (3) consistency, and (4) deliciousness! I call it "our Cheers!" Rustico is family friendly and offers delicious Italian food! We made reservations for a party of 9 on a Friday evening and were seated in the covered patio area. Our server and her team of staff were friendly, service was attentive and efficient. We asked for the pork chop parmigiana (which we had a while back, loved, and is not on their menu) and they were able to make it! The heirloom tomato arugula, grilled Spanish octopus and calamari salad, Mediterranean branzino were also delicious. Unfortunately the angel's chocolate old fashion tasted light and watered down. We both got a cup of soup, the minestrone and fusilli, and split the chicken Parmesan with Angel hair pasta. The portion was more than sufficient for the two of us and prepared to perfection. We celebrated my wife's birthday tonight at Rustico, we hadn't been there in a while and decided to celebrate her birthday. There, place was quite busy when we rolled in, we started with the calamari shrimp and sand dabs with spicy marinara., It was cooked perfectly very tasty, my wife wasn't terribly hungry so she just had the Caesar and loved it. I on the other hand. Chose the braze beef, short ribs, and I have to say they were spectacular, now I am a professional chef of more than 35 years and one of my favorite things in the world is a braised beef short rib, this thing was enormous. It came with mashed potatoes, green beans, broccoli, and a carrot split down the center, the sauce was executed perfectly, and the Cabernet was noted in the sauce, I said to my wife, I could not have done better. It was everything I had hoped for can't wait to return and work my way through the menu, but it's gonna be hard to get past that short rib, compliments to the Chef. I've only been here a few times. I live out of the area but I have close relatives who are very near to Rustico. Every time I have been to Rustico, the service was fantastic and the food was superb. The Golden and Purple Beet salad was incredibly good, if you are a beet lover, go for it! The calamari was very good as well, very tender and lightly breaded. The Margherita pizza was amazing too. Honestly, I've sampled several different things off of the plates of my wife and my other relatives - because I have no class or manners... But, everything I sampled was good. I've tried different pastas and seafood entrees - all good. My son had a great cut of steak too. The portions can be substantial. I've always gone home (to my hotel) with a doggy bag. I usually have to have a sorbet for dessert as I get too full for anything heavier. My local relatives tell me that various celebrities eat here as well. I've never seen any, yet. Went to this delicious gem for my hubbies work event. With group of 16. We had a large table in one of the sections of this mysteriously large restaurants. Tucked away in a large shopping plaza, the restaurant looks tiny from the outside but once you enter you can tell there are several separate areas within. The restaurant was quite busy when our group arrived at 6:30 pm Saturday. Our reservation was set and we were seated shortly after arrival. However, they did have a nice bar area as well. The service, drinks and food were all 5 star especially considering we were a large group and I would definitely recommend this place for a group, date night our family dinner. read more

We went to Rustico to celebrate our anniversary. We had never been there before. It was a wonderful experience. We had chosen to sit on the patio. It was beautiful, quiet and so pleasant. Our waitress (Victoria) was so very attentive and friendly. She gave us wonderful insight into the menu items and specials. She was incredibly helpful. The food was amazing. This restaurant's pizza was absolutely gross. This isn't a classy restaurant if you've got an issue with their food. The attitude of the manager was even more repulsive. She didn't care about my experience or that she was wasting my time with her unwarranted justification for this gross excuse they call pizza. I felt like she wanted to escalate (pointing her finger at me, raising her voice at me, etc). She made me feel like she wanted to physically assault me. I had to tell her step back and don't touch me. Due to her crazy behavior, I walked out without a refund for their gross pizza. She knew I only had a slice which i struggled and forced myself to eat. Thankfully I can submit the video to my credit card company to ensure I win the dispute if they are silly enough to try charge me and bully me into paying for something that's probably one of the worst pizza I've ever had in my life.
