Without a doubt, a TOP BRUNCH SPOT. Food was spot on delicious. Server Tusiime was great; entertaining & extremely accommodating. The Biscuit & Chicken Gravy was AMAZING !!! The Cluck-N-Gaufre (Goof) was AMAZING !!! The Lemon French Toast was AMAZING !!! The Manager encouraged a To-Go order of the Crab & Crawfish cake (after our meal) and was well worth it. Nice casual place with decor that needs just a little love (not on the Food, they take care of that) Thank you Tusiime, Fred, & staff !!!

A big must when I visit Chicago. Hands down one of my favorite breakfast spots. The last time I visited, it was towards the end of lunch and it wasn't too busy. This time? There was a line out the door! But luckily I didn't wait too long - maybe 20 minutes. They show you their weekly specials by sharing photos of the dishes on their iPhone. It's nice to see exactly what each dish looks like right then and there. To start, we split the salmon croquettes, and I wasn't expecting them to taste so home-cooked - It tasted like something my mom would make. The order only comes with two, but I could have easily eaten more than that! The french toast flavors were lemon, blueberry, strawberry, and brown sugar - absolutely incredible. I remembered the lemon one from my last visit and probably should have asked if I could get all lemon. I can't believe how much it tastes just like lemon cake! Strawberry was my second favorite. The catfish filet was also well seasoned and fried perfectly. Can't wait to be back!

Went to Batter & Berries for the French toast -- my favorite breakfast dish -- and I wasn't disappointed! I ordered the strawberry French toast (amazing!) but the French toast flight looked just as tempting. My partner got the chicken and waffles and said it was one of the best he's ever had. Special shoutout to our waitress -- I was seriously craving an iced latte, and even though it wasn't on the menu, she went out of her way to make one for me. Total lifesaver! Everyone we met was so friendly, and the food absolutely matched the great vibes. If you're in the area, definitely stop by for a fantastic brunch experience!

Surrounded by endless breakfast options in Lakeview, Batter & Berries stands out for its interesting renditions on breakfast fare. Having a waitlist option on Yelp is a definite plus and greatly appreciated -- we actually got seated earlier than expected. Our waiter greeted us and immediately made us feel welcome. She gave vivid descriptions of the specials and always checked in to see if we needed anything. Now, the food. It seems like most dishes were creole inspired. We ordered the catfish special, which came with eggs any style and their signature cheesy hash browns. I also ordered the spinach omelette that was accompanied by the hash browns. The catfish was seasoned well and the omelette was okay. The hash browns were the only detriment, as they were cemented mounds of cheese and shredded potatoes. We also ordered a side of the apple cider French toast and it had good flavor, but the bread was hardly toasted or battered, unlike the restaurant name might suggest. It was a charming breakfast spot and a good stop for anyone seeking a unique meal to start the day.

A friend and I decided to pop in for brunch as we were perusing the LINKIN PARK area. And of course it did not disappoint. I had the catfish with eggs , hashbrowns. My friend had strawberry French toast with mixed veggies. The service was amazing, the server was such fun. The ambiance is always a nice chill vibe.

We arrived at 11 on a Wednesday and it was packed! Luckily we got a table. You can't be seated until your entire table is there. Food They have french toast specials every week. This week was peach cobbler, so I had to get it! It was really good and came with 4 pieces. You can also get a french toast sampler. I appreciated you could just order a half order of french toast if you wanted it as a side or even your main meal. My friend got the brisket hash and it was delish. The hashbrowns had cheese in them and there was so much meat. Ambiance I thought this place was bigger from the outside. I'd recommend going with a group of 2 or 4, as there aren't tons of tables and you will have a better chance of getting seated faster. Service Our waitress was the best, she was so positive and helped us through the menu.

This was my very first stop once I landed in Chicago. This was a Keith Lee suggested gem so once I found it there were so many ppl waiting outside. At first I thought maybe they were just congregating out in front, but Nope they were waiting to be seated so I then thought since it was just me maybe I wouldn't have to wait super long, but that was also a No cause the place is small and they stick to First come first serve. I added my myself to the queue inside which is through Yelp & I was given a hour wait time . It took the entire hour . They have a community table that I was seated at. Which was perfect. I ordered Chicken & Waffle which was absolutely delicious. It came with a sweet potato waffle with fried chicken pieces cooked inside of it & it came with a fried chicken breast on the side. They are really known for their famous French toast so I got that too but a small order of with just 2 pieces . They have French toast flights and a weekly flavor. I got the weekly flavor of Sangria berry and my goodness the taste was soooooo good I can't even describe it in words. I also got an orange juice to drink & a side of B&B cheese hash browns that were delicious. The food came out quickly & the waiter was very helpful along with other staff. I would def come back here when visiting Chicago again. The ambiance was busy, & it stayed that way the entire time I was there. If you plan to visit I would def suggest adding yourself in the queue prior to arrival or at least looking at the queue from Yelp prior to arrival.

Was in the area for a doctor's appointment so we stopped in to try it out. We LOVE brunch spots! The service was great and everyone was very nice and attentive. The food came out quickly so I'm mostly basing my stars on that. It seemed like a fairly slow morning for 10/1030 but it was a Wednesday so maybe that's why? The music was top tier because who doesn't love Chicago House music?! The specials definitely looked good but decided to try something on the menu since it was our first time. The BFF Chicken sandwich was DELICIOUS! The fried chicken was seasoned to perfection - you can tell they put love into the food. Probably one of the best fried chicken recipes I've tasted in a restaurant. It was juicy and just enough kick to pair really well with the aioli on top. It was missing pickles which I was kind of sad about but it was still amazing without them (I didn't ask because it was big enough as is and probably would have made it more difficult to eat honestly lol) and the herbed fries were very good. The fries were just crispy enough and not soggy - my [super] picky kiddo even liked the seasoning on them so that's a plus. He also loved the chocolate chip pancakes - my BF shared them as well. He ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon and I thought it came with a side but no side arrived with our order. We were distracted by other things so didn't even ask about it and I just shared my fries with him since there was no way I could finish all that food. Portions were ok but seemed a bit pricey imo, however definitely typical of a brunch place in Chicago so no surprise there. Overall we enjoyed the food and atmosphere and if we go back we'll definitely try some specials or get other recs from the servers. Side note: the bathroom was a lil iffy (clean enough but paint peeling etc) but I've definitely been in worse! Chalked it up to an older Chicago building, no biggie.

This place is awesome! I walked in on a busy Saturday morning and was seated immediately. The atmosphere, the staff and customer service was top notch. I ordered the salmon croquettes, cheesy hashbrowns, scrambled eggs and the Caramel French toast. BABY! That food was super dupa fire! My order arrived quickly and it was hot. Hats off to the manager. WOW. So good. I'm still thinking about this meal and will probably be dreaming about it for years. I ordered the French Toast Flight, and it was everything I hoped for and more. You get their three signature flavors--lemon, blueberry, and strawberry--plus a rotating toast of the week, which (to my absolute delight) was red velvet. Each one was delicious, but if I'm being honest... the lemon stole the show. Totally unexpected, but it was bright, sweet, and just perfect. Only regret? I didn't order a glass of whole milk to go with it. Rookie mistake. Our server was fantastic--super sharp, friendly, and clearly knew the menu inside and out. She didn't miss a beat and made the whole experience even better. Worth the trip, no question. If you're in Chicago and love breakfast or brunch, this place is a must.

The staff greeted everyone like regulars, and the whole room felt like a neighborhood spot where folks actually show up for each other. As someone traveling through, it honestly made me feel like I was home for a moment. I ordered the French Toast Flight, and it lived up to the hype. Each piece had its own flavor and character, and you could tell they put intention behind every topping instead of just dressing up bread. It's one of those dishes you slow down for just so it lasts a little longer. Good food, good people, good energy. Exactly the kind of place you hope to stumble into when you're far from home.

Came here for breakfast and there was a wait, but we were able to get on the waitlist and receive a text when our table was ready. We got the catfish breakfast special which was different. I did like the breading on the catfish and the eggs were standard. However, the hashbrowns were clumpy and not very appetizing. We also got the apple cider French toast, which had a nice apple cider flavor and was fitting for the fall season!

Highly recommend black-owned and women-owned restaurant tucked in Lincoln park! Street parking wasn't hard to find on a Friday brunch around 11am. The service here is spectacular - everyone is so friendly and some were even telling jokes left and right!! Lots of tables for two and some high tops for larger groups. We got the super French toast flight, which included blueberry, strawberry, honey walnut, regular, and blueberry/strawberry french toast. Every flavor was delicious, and brought a very unique flavor profile. The honey walnut one was definitely my favorite, which is only available on the super flight! A fun novelty item to try!! The salon croquette was not on the menu but recommended by our server. The actual taste itself was good and not too fishy, and the medium eggs helped balance out the richness of the salmon. The hash browns were also delicious!

This is one of my favorite breakfast spots in the city. Great for brunch. The catfish is incredible, their french toast flight is really good, and their hash brown casserole is so good. Some of their dishes can be a little pricey for brunch, but it's absolutely worth it! (Also, be sure to join the waitlist when you're going there on the weekends because it gets busy!) read more

I came here with a colleague and I really enjoyed my food. I ordered a crab cake special and it came with eggs and cheesy hashbrowns. I also shared a French toast flight as well. The food was all delicious but the portions were really small, it was kind of funny how small the flight of French toast was. We always try a local breakfast spot after the farmers market and we decided on Batter and Berries and sure glad we did! It was a Saturday mid morning so it was about a 20 minute wait which wasn't too bad and totally worth it. Very welcoming and friendly staff from the hostess to the waiters. Vibes inside were pretty loud but we were in the back side towards the kitchen so we can hear each other talk haha. We put in our order and I would say no more than 10 minutes our food was ready. So fast! Housemade biscuits and chicken gravy were out of bounds good. Depths of flavor and not a thick gravy. Soft and flaky biscuits and can't forget to throw the eggs into the gravy. Now onto the French toast flight. I feel like I could've eaten them all but had to share with the table sadly. All 4 were . Strawberry lemonade, lemon, blueberry, and caramel. read more

10/10 - I haven't been here in about 4 years and man did I miss this place! Delicious all around the board. I want to try their new south loop location since it's closer to me. See pictured for all that we ordered and shared. The french toast melts in your mouth.. YUM! I highly recommend getting the flight to get a little taste of everything. Their special flavor was kiwi strawberry lemonade but we opted out of trying that one. The salmon croquettes were a bit small and came with 2 for the whole meal at $30.25 - a bit pricey for the size i will say. The catfish meal was $29.25. read more

I'm from Louisiana & I'm looking forward to going back! We waited a little over 35 minutes, which wasn't horrible. My only negative feedback is it's a small dining area, with no waiting area in the inside. The French toast was good, paired with the maple butter... my fav was the caramel!! Visited last month but forgot to finish review. It was absolutely top and I plan to go again next time I am in Chicago. The service may have been too good? I had planned to get the pancake flight but the waiter listed the day's special made me have to change my mind. I had two dishes here. One there with fried chicken and another to go for later. Both where delicious especially the roast. The only negative I can think of is the noise was a little loud so don't expect a quite conversation at least in the front. Maybe ask for the back if you want it quieter. read more

When we came for breakfast, it was Mother's Day so I'm sure that accounted for the long wait time. We waited about an hour and 15 minutes but it was definitely worth it. The French toast flight is spectacular. Each flavour was absolutely delicious but my favourite was definitely the red velvet which was the Mother's Day special. The flight is perfect because you get to try all of their flavour offerings at one time. The staff is also super friendly. The place can definitely be upgraded because they don't have a door, it's wood and the interior is very outdated. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. On one hand the food was good, on the other, the service was lacking. We joined the waitlist via yelp and it gave us an estimated time to be seated. We got there right in the middle of that timed slot & the hostess said that she checked us in, I didn't really know what that meant at the time. But essentially, we ended up waiting another 20 minutes outside. Once we got inside, we got a table but we were told we couldn't sit at it until it was cleared off. No problem. Another 5 minutes. Then our waiter comes to clear the table so we thought we could sit. We were told by the hostess to stand up and leave the table because she didn't give it to us yet (despite it being cleared off already). Another 2-3 minutes of standing awkwardly in the little front section of the restaurant. She finally allows us to sit and the waiter comes over and it's so loud. Now, our waiter was great. He gave us his recommendations and the specials. It was just very loud in this tiny place. Something he didn't do was say the prices of the specials. **rookie mistake on my end for not asking, I'm aware** Ok. So the food. It was good. French toast was amazing for classic, basic French toast. The bff chicken sandwich tasted so similar to Chick-fil-A. The brisket sandwich was super super burnt on the ends and very dry. The seafood benny was good but highly overpriced imo. Something I didn't know was that they charge for every extra condiment. I just wasn't expecting it so now y'all know. Good. But not worth the hassle. read more

I love the French toast flights. I think my favorite flavor individually has to be either the blueberry, strawberry, or caramel. The cheese crusted hashbrowns are also incredible. I love getting the edge part of the pan where it's super crispy. The bacon is also really good quality and very thick cut. Overall, excellent breakfast spot. read more

This was by far the worst breakfast entrée I've ever had. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and was instead served two plain slices of toast with a few strips of bacon laid on top, with my eggs on the side. I didn't request any substitutions or modifications--this was simply how it was presented. There was no butter, jam, or any condiments provided, leaving the dish absolutely dry. For $16, I expected at least a properly assembled sandwich, or at minimum a meal with some sense of care or flavor. Unfortunately, what I received felt careless and unworthy of the price. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was far below even basic standards and felt both disrespectful to the customer and their time. read more

Server: Lexii was absolutely amazing. She helped us pick out meal and it was 100% worth it. Food: French Toast Flight: 9.5/10. Absolutely delicious. I didn't like the strawberry too much. Catfish: 10/10 highly recommended. I don't usually eat catfish for dinner but it was absolutely worth it and delicious. Ambiance: mom and pop shop. read more

Thank you Betters & Berries for a great first time breakfast experience ! The service and our waiter were great - so nice and friendly . The restaurant is a nice size plenty of seating. We went on a Friday for breakfast , easy street parking . All of our food items were excellent. The French toast was outstanding - very flavorful . The biscuits and gravy was delicious / had a New Orleans style, which was nice . Even the coffee was great . Definitely a place to check out! We will be back ! read more

I really liked my order. Got one of their specials that day- salmon croquettes. My boyfriend got waffles which he said were so so. Weird vibe from the server who looked at me sideways when I said I was from Chicago (lived here over a decade now- Chicago is home) since apparently she can tell who is from Chicago and who is just visiting and I guess according to her I didnt look like a Chicagoan. Just an odd thing to judge someone from their appearance even if it was well intentioned. read more

We were able to get seated quickly after walking in to be added to the list. The location is not really big, but they did a good job making it enjoyable for the guests. The staff were kind and constantly came to check in and see how we were doing. I got the chicken and waffle, it was pretty good. My friend got the French toast flight and said it was good, some were just a little too sweet and overwhelming. The menu has a lot of options, definitely would come back to try some other things. read more

TL; DR: Go for the French Toast, BYOB, Wait Times If you are only wanting a good breakfast, then this is a great canidate for BYBO. The french toast flight is the way to go here and my advise would be to get the Super Flight, so you can try the special. A side of bacon is always the correct thing to order too. Also, beware, they do usually have long wait times on the weekend, but there is a coffee shop nearby that you can dip into when you are waiting. read more

It has been a while since I've been here, so I decided to come back for breakfast. It was good to see Tim one of the servers there. Very friendly and he knows everyone. The place wasn't crowded for a Wednesday morning. I got a table upfront and I was fine with that. Timothy was my server. Very friendly. I order strawberries French Toast, Bacon, and Apple Juice. Took a while to get my order which was fine, I wasn't in any hurry. The food was good. The Strawberries French Toast was warm, and the bacon could have been a little warm but it was still good. The customers were diverse. People who live in the neighborhood and people traveling from the south side. The hostess was nice. Inside the restaurant, the colors are purple and yellow which I like. Visited Batter & Berries as a last minute brunch and it turned out to be the best decision I made all week! It is a hole in the wall with a big taste. Small inside making it feel more like home. I got the special Benedict of the day which came with crispy fried salmon eggs your way and cheesy hash browns. Also ordered the Executive, and the other special of the day which was a luxurious egg white omelet and the SUPER French toast flight! The Benedict was delicious, our server even brought out the spicy sweet homemade hot sauce which added a perfect zing to the dish. Honestly, everything was amazing the steak perfectly cooked and flavorful, omelet filling but light. But the winner is the French toast flight! Every single bite delicious light, fluffy, buttery, sweet, savory. It is perfect for sharing and we ate every crumb. Lastly, I'll give a huge shout out to our server, I believe his name is Tusemi - this man deserves a raise. Batter and Berries was amazing from the greeting at the door until we left! The service was truly exceptional, the waiter was knowledgeable and so engaging. Management and all staff excellent. But let's get to the food - delicious doesn't seem sufficient to describe all we had. The catfish perfectly seasoned, sweet potato waffle and chicken so flavorful and delish, cheddar hashbrowns yummm, Creole sauce with crawfish and chicken andouille was savory goodness on a biscuit and omelet delicious. There's often a wait, and if you're not there when they call you, you get a text that you've been taken off the waitlist and they've moved on, so you gotta move fast (we had found a parking spot so we're waiting in our car RIGHT in front of B&B, but most people just wait outside). The last time we were there, the waitlist said 25 minutes so we walked to big shoulders coffee and then I guess were called after only 5 minutes, then got back on the waitlist and waited an hour, so that wasn't great. The food, however - FANTASTIC. Integrating chicken into waffles - ingenious. Everything is delightful, rich, and interesting. It's busy and generally bustling. Sometimes service can be a little slow, especially when it's super busy, but they're helpful, courteous/friendly. There's at least one communal table, but plenty of private ones as well. Brunch for 2 with coffee last time (10/24) was ~$60 with tip. Go forth and enjoy some brunch comfort food. read more

A new neighborhood brunch place. My wife and I live in the neighborhood and enjoy our morning meals, so Batters and Berries was the perfect fit. We were seated by the pretty hostess at a center table, which was near the bathroom. Definitely not the greatest choice for of tables. We had full view of the cluttered floor behind the staff station. The top of the small refridgerator was a bit cluttered and I could not stop glancing in the direction of the clutter. The cashier standing in the service station seemed to be having a bad day. We were either looking at her hunched over, listening to her phone ring or watching as she frowned through our adventure. Water came right away and then our morning coffee. A company that I do not recognize, but wonderful coffee. Our waitress was funny and suggested that we try the french toast, so we did. A french toast flight ( oooo la la ) and what they call a Deconstructed steak omelet. I was interested the the sweet potato hashbrowns and our waitress ( Lauren), told me that they would come with my omelet. The whole room was full and seemed to be buzzing with happiness, so far really good. Here comes the food. I am extremely impressed right away. Looking at my omelet, I begin to understand what the chef is trying to say. This omelet is not like all of the others. All of the best parts are showcased right up front, on the outside of the omelet. The flavors work wonders together and the healthy potions are nice as well. The french toast flight was excellent. A plate of four different styles. My favorite is the lemon but they all were well made. Normally, when my meal arrives, I expect that all of my condiments are available right away. Lauren explained to us that the chef would like for us to taste it plain first and see if syrup is needed. To my surprise, I enjoyed this fantastic plate of french toast more than any I have encountered. I did find myself asking a busboy for syrup after a few moments. Just a little and that was the Icing on this cake, so to speak. The, as my WIFE put it, handsome manager seemed to walk the room periodically to make sure that everything was running well. He smiled and said hello as he passed us on his way to the wonderful open kitchen, Lauren asked if we would like anything else, just as the Chef was walking by to meet another table. I do enjoy when the person who makes a fabulous meal for me, comes out to see if I am happy. He walked around the room smiling and meeting people. When he finally got to our table, he knew what we had and asked our opinion, I find that to be rare. There are many places in the Lincoln park area where you will find good food. This new restaurant may very well sit near the top of the heap. The prices are fair, the food is superb and the staff( minus the cashier) is attentive and friendly. read more

I would have given this place 2 1/2 stars if I could. Giving it three is pushing it. A friend and I finally tried this place about a week or so ago. The food was good (nothing to over brag about and over price). We went on a Saturday morning (Air-Water Show day) and arrived about 9:00 am or so and put are name on the wait list. The young lady that checks you in can use a class in hospitality. She wasn't the most friendliest person to greet paying customers of their establishment. Our wait time wasn't long at all, about 15 minutes. Our party was of three and we were seated at a "community style table" which we didn't care for but we sat there anyway. The waitress we had was friendly and helpful since this was our first time there. She went over some of the items on the menu and their specials including showing pics of the specials and of the french toast dish (which I personally didn't think was that amazing from the pic). The menu was simple. Not overwhelmed with a lot of food choices. We ordered the salmon special, the crab cake benedict special, my son had his usually breakfast menu items (eggs, hashbrowns, bacon). Now, the bus boys were another story. Never been to a breakfast/brunch place and after you are seated they come and take the coffee cups away without even asking if you want coffee or not. My friend had to tell him she did want coffee and had to also ask, after he poured the coffee, for cream and sugar. Also, had to ask for a set of eating utensils which we all didn't have at our seats. They just seem to stand over to the side by the counter, complain and look disinterested. Our waitress had to even tell them to refill our glasses with water. The most interested part was when one of the waiters dropped a plate of food he was bringing to a table. The manager who was just walking back and forth at the time instantly had a unpleasant disposition about himself. I even told my friend that he should probably go in the back and get himself together because his entire demeanor was coming across the wrong way to the customers. He spent most of his time walking back and forth on his cell phone which I thought was rude. Overall, I most likely will not be back. I wasn't impressed. You really want to support black-owned businesses but one of the main components to me that they miss on is providing good-excellent customer service and a welcoming environment. The food can be average but if you have good-excellent customer service and a welcoming environment, that's what keeps me coming back. I've enjoyed breakfast/brunch spots that have much better hospitality and friendlier service and not over priced. read more

After hearing about the endless lines and the raving reviews a group of my friends and I decided to attend the popular brunch spot batter & berries. I called ahead to get a wait time just to prepare myself and the young lady who answer the phone quoted a 35minute wait for a party of five. At 12:30 I arrived, the place was jammed packed I put my name on the list with the hostess with the natural hair and she quoted me a hour wait. I questioned the young lady why the wait was so long and I had just called 30 minutes ago and was told something different she responded with a snotty sarcastic answer. The younger hostess walked up to the stand and told me I could follow her to the waiting area which is really no where to wait. I asked the younger hostess why my wait was so long to see if I would get the same consistent answer and she responded "Sunday is large parties Sunday and she would be able to sit me in the next 35 minutes" Seems like the lady taking names obviously doesn't know what she talking about. After 25 minutes of waiting I asked the same lady I put my name down on the list with and she told me I had serval parties ahead of me. How is that even possible when the other hostess told me I had 35 minutes before I get a table . I looked at the waiting list and I saw a A by my name I asked what does that mean she told me absent. Again how is that possible when I been sitting here for the past 30 minutes the hostess just smiled and cut here eyes at me. I believe she intentionally marked me absent trying to be a a**h*** and at this time I was furious. Ten minutes later the younger hostess came in and sat us at the table in the back and apologize. On the food side the food is delicious and came out fast. I had the shrimp Alfredo omelette and the flight of French toast . Let me tell you something that strawberry French toast is something serious. My girlfriends had the lobster Benedict the sweet potato waffle which is to die for. What makes this place even better is that there byob. Our waiter tusome was the perfect gentleman and told us funny jokes. Over all this place gets four starts could have five but the hostess took that star away. I will definitely be back and will be bringing back more people. read more

I frequently make the hour long drive to not only support a black owned business but also because I've enjoyed the food. However on June 15, 2015 that all changed. My family and I decided to go there for my birthday, and I was quite disturbed by how the manager handles customer complaints. I ordered the super flight French toast which was brought out quickly but to my surprise 10 minutes would pass and I still would not have my sides. I strategically placed a small slice in my toast and asked why would they only bring part of my food out and not all of it. He provided me the excuse that there are no warmers so food is brought out when it's ready, well I personally enjoy eating my breakfast together not in sections so he offered to take my toast back and bring out hot food all at once. Unfortunately it didn't go that way he brought the same French toast out and still no sides. At this time I requested s manager who kindly took about 10 minutes to come over and provided me the same excuse about it being no warmers but when asked how would the bring me the same food if there are no warmers he suggested that they put plate in the oven to warm As oppose to giving me a fresh plate of food. At this point I am no longer interested in the food because the only thing he was able to say was ok ok I apologize ok. A simple I will take this back and make sure your food is hot when it comes out would have been fine but his arrogance would not allow him to humble himself. So take the meal off I don't want it. He comes back to the table and says I comp your tab but I appreciate if you never return. Really???!! Cause I don't want hot food AND your attitude sucks. No problem I will NEVER return and make sure I let anyone who will listen know the type of management you employee. read more

Let me start by saying that I consider myself a foodie. I love going to to eat breakfast or trying out new breakfast places. I heard of this place on a CBS special and I understood that this place was awesome, great, ext.. My girlfriend and I arrived here on a saturday morning and waited for over and hour. My issue was not so much with waiting. I know it's a weekend and breakfast places are usually packed. My issue was with the service in and out of the restaurant. They had a line structure in which you were in a line depending in which group of people you were in. If you were in a 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ect... you were put in a line according to your group size. So after almost an hour of waiting we were seeing people who were arriving in big groups being sited while the people who were in small groups continued to wait. I am not a restaurant owner or a manager of one but boy is this awful. Besides the waiting they had the most annoying human being as their hostess who stood outside and yelled out the names and for some reason thought he was amusing. Whenever you asked him or another hostess how much longer the wait was they looked ticked off or annoyed. Finally after an hour plus wait we were sat down. I was like if the food is good all of this will be forgiven. Lol. Well the waitress was not helpful at all seemed in a rush and was not very informative. I ordered a salmon and eggs plate which was mediocre at best. Ordered a side of patties which arrived cold. My girlfriends plate was something simple and was still mediocre. I don't like to bash places if you see my ratings I rave about places if they're good and I continue to go back. But man this place was an awful experience from beginning to end. read more

I'm late on this review I visited batter and berries two weeks ago. So a group of my girlfriends and I were traveling from Texas and was looking for a brunch spot and after reading numerous yelp reviews we decided batter and berries was the spot to go. We arrived on a Sunday at noon greeted graciously by the two hostess and was told the wait was for 90 minutes. We thought, the food HAD to be good if all these people were waiting this long. Our 90 minutes passed and we still were not seated and parties who didn't wait as long us was seated ahead of us. We went back inside and ask the two hostess why we haven't been seated and they both apologized for the long wait and the hostess with the long hair explained " a party of 8 more is a little difficult to seat because there's only two locations I can't sit a party of 8 or more but I will try my best to get you seated as soon as possible" After 30 more minutes of waiting the hostess Pat called us in and seated us at the community table. We had the super flight of French toast which came with all kinda of flavors, chicken and waffle, crab omelet, and pork chop executive! Man Ohhh man this food here is finger looking good!!! Our waitress Nadine was very nice and knew exactly what was she talking about. The hostess with the long hair came by our table greeted us asked how good the food was and apologize for the long wait again. I can not say enough good things about batter and berries. I will certainly be back again with even more people when I visit Chicago. Good: The awesome food and the amazing presentation of the food. Batter & Berries: A Brunch Worth Waiting For My husband and I, along with another couple, recently experienced the delightful brunch offerings at Batter & Berries. Arriving just before their 8:00 am opening on a Saturday, we joined a small queue of eager patrons, a testament to this restaurant's popularity. Despite the wait, the staff's warm welcome made the time fly by. From the moment we stepped inside, we felt like family, thanks to our exceptional waiter (whose name, unfortunately, I've forgotten). His friendly and attentive service truly elevated our dining experience. While the restaurant's lighting was somewhat dim, the overall cleanliness and inviting atmosphere more than compensated. The food, of course, was the star of the show. My friend raved about the French toast flight, a colorful and tempting assortment of flavors. Yelp needs to add an option for a 6th star because Batter and Berries is that good. The menu here is a true work of art! From their signature French toast creations to savory delights, there's something for every breakfast aficionado. Now, onto the star of the show - the incredible French toast! I had the pleasure of indulging in their "Bee Golden" French toast, and it was a dream come true. The menu's creativity extends beyond the French toast. Went saturday morning day of bears preseason game I was going to at noon, I had ordered door dash from here a few times but never dined in until this trip. THEY DONT DO RESERVATIONS BUT THEY ARE INSANELY BUSY. They use a wait list feature from Yelp. You wont be able to "get in line" until about 8am whenever they open. In less than 2 minutes I got in line and was already the 21st party in line. Which estimated a 10am breakfast which was perfect. But the closer it got to 10am I began getting quite a few notifications that things were busy and the est time of being seated was delayed 10 mins....... This happened about 5 times and we didn't get in till 11:12am. we missed the first half of the bears game. The issue is that alot of people just go stand outside and camp the place and they end up intimidating thier way onto an open table that was reserved for the next person in the virtual line. I understand the fact that an empty table is missed revenue but there MUST BE a better way to plan to eat here without loosing half a day and of having a 2 hour window of when you will be texted to come be seated when you hit #1 on the virtual list. The food is really truly amazing. I was a pastry and pantry chef for 10 years and I think they put out great food. Try the french toast flight, blueberry waffle ands the spinach on the side.DELICIOUS Ps. Reading their FAQ on the BnB website is a very good idea. read more

I loved batter and berries when it first opened - it was the best! Friendly staff, cool vibes, amazing food, and no lines on the weekends! Unfortunately now, it's an entirely different story. I returned to the breakfast spot a few days ago at exactly 8 AM(when they open) on a weekday. There was only one family being waited on when a friend and I arrived. We told one of the co-owners (obviously, the one who's not the chef - aka the reason people actually go there) that another person may join us in a half hour or so and that she'd most likely just get coffee. In response, he took down my name and number as if to put me on a waiting list. I asked why and he said that we couldn't be seated until the entire party got here, despite me and my other friend wanting to order food stat. I then said to make the table for two, to which he responded, " if your friend comes, we wont be able to sit her with you, its policy." I understand that Batter and Berries gets unnecessarily, absurdly (not worth the time/money) crowded, but it was 8 AM and a weekday and there was one family seated! Honestly, who does this guy think he is? Unlike the chef, this co owner is rude and definitely poor when it comes to costumer service (especially when I've been frequenting the place since it opened). We went to left coast instead. A spot that has the chill atmosphere, friendly staff that batter and berries USED to have. read more

First off let me begin by saying that I love going to new breakfast joints. I love finding new gems. I love finding an awesome breakfast joint. I had heard great reviews about Batter and Berries. So i had to try this place for myself. I went on a saturday morning and waited for over an hour in line. Let me begin by saying that I don't mind waiting in line if the place is worth it. The waiting though was awful because the place had no structure on the waiting list. They had several lists. A list for a two person, three person, four person line ect. So if you were in a two person line a group of people might get in before you because there wasn't a big line for that group of people. The hostess were rude and extremely annoying with the screaming that they did outside the joint. The waiter pretty much picked are food and told us how we could and could not eat the food. We chose the lobster omelet and the chicken and waffles. Both of the plates were MEDIOCRE at best. We ordered a side of Chicken Sausage which was cold when it arrived at the table. THE ONLY good thing that I could say about the place was the coffee. The coffee was awesome! If people want to try to a real breakfast/Brunch joint go to Over Easy, Yolk, Nookies, or Nightwood. read more

I totally enjoyed Batter & Berries today! The overall experience was absolutely amazing! We knew the wait would be long so before leaving home, we went on yelp to put our name on the waiting list and by the time we arrived it was close to our seating time. We were greeted by 2 hostess who were very welcoming. We checked in and we were seated within 5 minutes of checking in. Our server was super cool and she helped us make the best food choices. Our food was brought out so quick we barely had time to wash our hands lol. Due to how busy they were, I was not expecting our food to come as fast as it did. The food was delicious. Loved the flight of French toast!!! Highly recommend this place. Everything we ordered was fresh, hot, and delicious! I've never left a review on a restaurant, but I was beyond satisfied with everything. I even enjoyed the painting on the walls. I can tell every employee worked well together and they are rooted in love. They were all very pleasant and kind from the time we arrived until we walked out the door with the busser telling us to have a blessed day as we were leaving our table. A+ My cousin brought me here during the weekday so we did not have to wait and it was not crowded. So, one big thing that I am a stickler on is service. The waiter, Tusiime is someone that is well known in the restaurant and you're going to want to request him. He keeps your glass full and also keeps you thinking and laughing. I ordered Super Flight French Toast. At the time it was Pink Moscato battered French toast topped with vanilla sauce accompanied by a sample of their strawberry, blueberry, lemon, & caramel French toast. Each served with their famous Batter & Berries maple butter. Of course, bacon and scramble eggs with Gouda cheese on the side. This combo was one of the best combs that I have had. The french toast was not dry and I really wanted more. The prices are standard as if you were going to another small business for brunch. My ticket also included my cousins! There's so much to choose from on the menu also. I know I will be back when in the city. read more

So I have been trying to visit this place since September and for reason or another I wasn't able to....I believe now that I was supposed to wait and build up my anticipation. I walked in and was immediately seated at the community table which was cool because I didn't have to dine alone. I was immediately brought water and offered coffee. The manager Jay just so happened to be sitting at the table and made sure that my waitress gave me prompt, courteous service. My food was brought out fast and was delicious. Once the manager found out it was my first time and finding out that I love peach cobbler he let me sample a slice of the peach cobbler french toast which was even more reason why I will be patronizing this establishment again. The hostess Nicky was very helpful with letting me know which times and days are the busiest.......so on that note if you come after 9:30ish on a weekend please be prepared to wait because it gets pretty crowded. read more

The food as far as I'm concerned is pretty good. Everything I've had (and tried bites of my friends plates) have been good. The issue is the line, and their lack of organization. I will never understand why places rather have a crowd waste their Saturday in line, rather than organize and take reservations. It's hard to meet for brunch here never knowing how long it will take. I'm talking 2 hours for a table of 2. It's ridiculous. At some point they should start considering reservations. What ends up happening is they make people wait for so long, by the time they sit they're starving and irritated and their expectations skyrocket. Their food is good, but after waiting for 2 hours sitting on a sidewalk curb, it just didn't cut it. If you're gonna make me wait that long you need to step up your game... I raved about this place and my friend and I waited for 2 hrs....it's good but it ain't TWO HOURS GOOD. read more

What a great place for breakfast or brunch. It's a small joint that doesn't take reservations, but you put your name in and they'll call you when it's your turn. Also they have a small waiting area in the back of the restaurant in case it's cold/rainy out. They turn tables quickly cause they make the food quickly. Great service. The menu is terrific and some choices change daily. The food is delicious and creative, with unique dishes and clever twists on old favorites. I had a sweet potato waffle and fried chicken and it was very flavorful and filling and I thoroughly enjoyed the dish. I tasted some of the eggs and brisket that my son ordered, and with the cheesy hash browns...MAN! I'm gonna get than next time. Their coffee is delicious and they keep it coming. If your up on the North Side, check it out. Friendly folks that make an awesome breakfast! read more

I recently ordered from Batter & Berries, and overall, it was a positive experience. My order included French toast, eggs, hash browns, and apple-smoked sausage. While the sausage wasn't my favorite, the lemon French toast was phenomenal. It was fresh, perfectly sweet, and had just the right touch of zest. The portion sizes were generous, easily enough to share with someone else, which was a nice bonus. The food arrived warm and in good condition, though I do wish the packaging had been more securely sealed. My only minor complaint is the price. I felt it was a bit high for a delivery order. That said, the quality of the food made up for it, and I'd definitely order again, especially for the lemon French toast. If you're in the mood for indulgent and creative breakfast dishes, Batter & Berries is worth a try! read more

I recently visited Batter and Berries and had a fantastic experience! We ordered the French toast flight, and the caramel French toast was our favorite. We also tried the chicken sausage with hashbrowns and the chicken gravy with biscuits. The first time I ordered the biscuits, they weren't as fluffy as I would have liked, but our delightful server quickly rectified that by bringing out a fresh batch that was perfect and delicious. The restaurant serves fresh fruit, which was a lovely addition. While it can be rather loud inside, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the staff was exceptionally nice. I believe the owner or manager even stopped by our table to ensure everything was satisfactory. Overall, I had a great experience and highly recommend Batter and Berries if you're in the Chicago area. read more

Rolled up to Batter & Berries on a Saturday morning and it smashed all my brunch expectations, bright space, friendly vibe, zero stuffiness. I ordered the chicken-and-waffle omelet and a French-toast flight. The omelet was loaded, savory with just the right crisp on the waffle, and that French-toast flight? Next-level fluffy, especially the maple-butter drizzle, seriously, it's "light and fluffy with the maple butter and strawberry sauce!" per other reviews, and they weren't kidding. The service was upbeat and prompt, in between bites the server checked how everything was, really attentive without hovering. Only slightly crowded, but the energy was part of the charm. This place is a solid five stars if you're down for creative pancakes, stacked omelets, and a no-fuss, Chicago brunch vibe. read more
