We came here on a Sunday morning around 9:30am. There was parking outside and kids were welcomed. This place is well known and people rave about it, I didn't get that from my experience. Overall when we got there three of us were there and we were waiting on a 4th. They said we couldn't sit until the 4th arrived and we complied and then a moment later without our 4th they sat us. Which was nice. They say they have world famous French Toast, not one of us got them and by the smell of them from other tables it's recommended. I got a breakfast sandwich on whole grain bread, over easy eggs, and bacon. They only have Chilula or a chilula home sauce. Not preferred. They have chocolate chip pancakes, which my kid got, and my partner got the catfish special. He didn't love it but said it was "good". The catfish executive did cost $30. The water service was great, the coffee service and overall service wasn't the best. read more

As we arrived, we were a bit thrown off by the dirty awning as we got here right at 8, but we were surprised and impressed with how quickly and how many people started flowing in. Food was decent, though a bit over the top with spices. My special of the day -- the shrimp omelette -- was overpowered by strong flavours and quite salty, which took away from the dish. The French toast, on the other hand, was excellent and definitely the highlight of the meal. Parking is on the street, paid or free depending on the day and time. Service was a bit hit and miss. We had to ask several times for drinks, and at first, no one even asked if we wanted any. I ordered a cappuccino (which is on the menu), but the server forgot it, so I eventually settled for tea. One quirky thing -- the server occasionally came by with riddles, which I understand is part of their charm, but sometimes it's best to read the room, especially when guests are mid-conversation. The food and service were absolutely phenomenal! The restaurant was super busy, thankfully we had done waitlist and they were able to seat us right away. Our server Naynay really went above and beyond. I ordered a crab cake bennie and the poached eggs were a bit overdone and Naynay noticed right away that I looked a little sad the yoke wasn't runny. She asked if I wanted to send back the plate or bring poached eggs. The manager and our server both kept checking on us to see how the food was and thanked us for being patient. Honestly it was incredibly sweet because normally I'm not one to ever make a fuss or send things back. The crab cake Bennie was HEAVENLY! My husband got the steak fajita omelette and it was SO FLAVORFUL!! My daughter devoured her grilled cheese! We also got the French toast flight and it was so delicious!!! We always try a local breakfast spot after the farmers market and we decided on Batter and Berries and sure glad we did! It was a Saturday mid morning so it was about a 20 minute wait which wasn't too bad and totally worth it. Very welcoming and friendly staff from the hostess to the waiters. Vibes inside were pretty loud but we were in the back side towards the kitchen so we can hear each other talk haha. We put in our order and I would say no more than 10 minutes our food was ready. So fast! Housemade biscuits and chicken gravy were out of bounds good. Depths of flavor and not a thick gravy. Soft and flaky biscuits and can't forget to throw the eggs into the gravy. The service was great! Our waiter had really positive energy and was helpful with picking from all the delicious specials. I tired the jambalaya omelette and it was amazing! Visited last month but forgot to finish review. It was absolutely top and I plan to go again next time I am in Chicago. The service may have been too good? I had planned to get the pancake flight but the waiter listed the day's special made me have to change my mind. I had two dishes here. One there with fried chicken and another to go for later. Both where delicious especially the roast. The only negative I can think of is the noise was a little loud so don't expect a quite conversation at least in the front. Maybe ask for the back if you want it quieter. read more

I never leave reviews and honestly feel so rude leaving one but I had to share my experience. Starting to say our server was awesome, she cared a lot but clearly this was fully out of her control. So we ordered our food, waffles and hashbrowns came out but then more and more time passed and still nothing. Finally one of the two avocado toasts we ordered came out and we were informed that they did not have enough avocado to complete our second. At this point, we had been seated for about 45 minutes and my friend I were still waiting on our dishes (crab cake Benedict and a burger). Our server (reminder, very kind and attentive) was apologetic and informed us that the manager would come talk to us, and said my Benedict was coming, no mention of the burger. We then were offered a free dish as my 16 year old sisters avocado toast was out of stock, she ordered the special impossible burger. My Benedict and the regular burger were still MIA, as was the manager. The manager came around finally, shortly after my Benedict was delivered, along with a free French toast. Shortly after the impossible burger and regular burger were delivered. We got all of our missing food to go as we had been there for an hour and a half, starving. When we had gotten back home, we noticed the stark difference between the regular burger and the impossible burger. See photos here of the regular burger-- lettuce galore-- and the impossible burger-- literal nothing burger. Again, service on our servers end was great. When we came for breakfast, it was Mother's Day so I'm sure that accounted for the long wait time. We waited about an hour and 15 minutes but it was definitely worth it. The French toast flight is spectacular. Each flavour was absolutely delicious but my favourite was definitely the red velvet which was the Mother's Day special. The flight is perfect because you get to try all of their flavour offerings at one time. The staff is also super friendly. The place can definitely be upgraded because they don't have a door, it's wood and the interior is very outdated. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. On one hand the food was good, on the other, the service was lacking. We joined the waitlist via yelp and it gave us an estimated time to be seated. We got there right in the middle of that timed slot & the hostess said that she checked us in, I didn't really know what that meant at the time. But essentially, we ended up waiting another 20 minutes outside. Once we got inside, we got a table but we were told we couldn't sit at it until it was cleared off. No problem. Another 5 minutes. Then our waiter comes to clear the table so we thought we could sit. We were told by the hostess to stand up and leave the table because she didn't give it to us yet (despite it being cleared off already). Another 2-3 minutes of standing awkwardly in the little front section of the restaurant. She finally allows us to sit and the waiter comes over and it's so loud. Now, our waiter was great. He gave us his recommendations and the specials. It was just very loud in this tiny place. Something he didn't do was say the prices of the specials. **rookie mistake on my end for not asking, I'm aware** Ok. So the food. It was good. French toast was amazing for classic, basic French toast. The bff chicken sandwich tasted so similar to Chick-fil-A. The brisket sandwich was super super burnt on the ends and very dry. The seafood benny was good but highly overpriced imo. Something I didn't know was that they charge for every extra condiment. I just wasn't expecting it so now y'all know. Good. I love the French toast flights. I think my favorite flavor individually has to be either the blueberry, strawberry, or caramel. The cheese crusted hashbrowns are also incredible. I love getting the edge part of the pan where it's super crispy. The bacon is also really good quality and very thick cut. Overall, excellent breakfast spot. read more

This was by far the worst breakfast entrée I've ever had. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and was instead served two plain slices of toast with a few strips of bacon laid on top, with my eggs on the side. I didn't request any substitutions or modifications--this was simply how it was presented. There was no butter, jam, or any condiments provided, leaving the dish absolutely dry. For $16, I expected at least a properly assembled sandwich, or at minimum a meal with some sense of care or flavor. Unfortunately, what I received felt careless and unworthy of the price. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was far below even basic standards and felt both disrespectful to the customer and their time. read more
