    Churro con canela French toast
    Jenna C.

Walked in on a Sunday for brunch (no reservation) and was pleasantly surprised to be seated right away even though they were busy. Obviously being called "La Catedral", they've got the religious theme going with the inside decor. Menu was enormous but I did not like that they don't list prices - I feel that helps customers be able to make informed decisions. Seems like they are known for their chilaquiles, so maybe I got the wrong thing but I was in the mood for French toast so went with the "churro con canela" and it was way too sweet for me - just drowning in pastry cream. To wash it down, I tried the iced mexchata which was also way too sweet for me. This is a personal preference, some people love sugary food and drink but just warning those who don't to maybe stick to a regular coffee or savory dishes. The French toast ended up being ~$16 and the drink was ~$6. Service was very spotty. It doesn't seem like servers are assigned tables but rather everyone helps out different tables in the same area. Our waiter dropped off our food and never came back so we finally flagged down a different waitress who cashed us out. Everyone was friendly though. Overall, seems like an ok option in the neighborhood if you can't get in at some of the other popular spots nearby.

Cute place, great service, and the chilaquiles were delicious. My wife got the verde chilaquile with chorizo and scrambled eggs which was much better than my poorly ordered (my fault) chicken sunny side up rojos one! Highly recommend the agua frescas, so refreshing.

A nice spot that's inexpensive and great food close to conference hotels. Worth the walk from the Hyatt Regency or Swissotel. Atmosphere/ambience: very casual, nice tall windows, lots of catholic relics! Service: Fairly attentive and someone always within eye sight to help. Good walk through of menu options and warnings/double-checking for spiciness tolerance. Water requests often didn't have much delay. Food: some great brunch options, a whole page dedicated for 18 chilaquelas varieties. Highly recommend adding the chicken stew to any of them, and get some extra sour cream if you dare to try the mocajete chilaquelas like me! It was delicious and very spicy. Love the refried beans consistency -- not too dry and good seasoning. There were a few vegetarian options my companions appreciated. We loved the fries. Very crispy but not hard on the outside and velvety on the inside. The guacamole looked great. We wanted to order it, but read portions were large and this was true! Drinks: extensive NA, alcoholic, smoothies, coffee, and milkshakes. We just had water. Price: very inexpensive for conference area fare at sitdown prices. Came away around $24 each for tax and tip.

We went on a late morning on a Saturday. We were seated immediately and met our server. The menu is huge! I came specifically for a sope but ended up ordering a hurrache instead. It was delicious. The bean and cheese stuffing was really nice. Nice time I'll get some salsa to put on top but the steak was seasoned well. The horchata con fresas I ordered was lovely and sweet. My companion ordered the chef's favorite breakfast. It was also well seasoned and the plantains were yummy! We look forward to returning!

Caught by surprise at how good the food is here! They're such a hidden gem inside of an apartment complex behind wild berry. They have tasty brunch options, friendly staff and cute restaurants decor. So glad we came here on a slow Sunday morning to have a relaxing brunch! We ordered the angelic breakfast which was filling and delicious! And the strawberry pancakes. The portion is huge and the coffee was amazing.

My fiance and I came here around 10 on a Saturday. To our surprise, it wasn't very busy. We were quickly greeted and seated. The restaurant is spacious and has a cathedral theme. It's a nice place for a casual breakfast/brunch. The workers are very friendly and efficient. Multiple servers came to check on us throughout our breakfast. To drink, we ordered iced cafe de ollas. They were perfectly sweet and had a subtle cinnamon flavor. We ordered the ranchero chilaquiles and torta especial. The portions were HUGE and the food was delicious!! The torta was sooo good. The pork had plenty of sauce and a nice little kick. Everything tasted great individually, and even better all together. The fries were also perfectly crisp! The chilaquiles were equally as good. We ordered the ranchero salsa so it wouldn't be too spicy. We probably could've gotten a spicier salsa, but it was still amazing! I would definitely recommend checking this place out. I'm already booking a trip back to Chicago just to eat here!

Street parking was available. No wait, we were seated immediately and we had a party of about 12 at 10am on a Friday. Very large menu of just about whatever you can think. I had a difficult time ordering, because I wanted to taste a bit of everything. Half the table ordered cafe de olla (hot) and it comes in a huge mug. You can also order it as an iced coffee. I ordered the iced coffee with horchata in it and it was very good and sweet. Some people ordered fresh squeezed juice which came in what appeared to be a souvenir cups. All of our meals came out as they were ready and everything looked amazing. My meals had flavor, was authentic and was amazing. Staff was friendly, helpful and attentive, although we had one person take our order, it seemed to be a team effort as different people brought out our meals, cleaning the table etc. The decor inside is beautiful and authentic, down to the tiles on the floor. Definitely a place to come for good food. You will not be disappointed.

We got the Divorviados with chorizo (bottom) and Rojos with avocado (top)

The Ambiance is gorgeous. Staff is very nice and accommodating. Food was delicious!! The rojos chilaquiles was actually really spicy. 3 out of 5 chilis on the hot meter might be a 5 out of 5 for the less spice-tolerant. The verde chilaquiles was yummy too, less spicy. The Rompoccino was delicious. It's called a cappuccino but I think it's more like an egg nog latte. If we weren't leaving the city today, we would be back every single day. Must try location.

Food was delicious, and the cafe de Oya was outstanding! Jonathan our server was great, very polite and friendly.

This Mexican restaurant is a real find and only a few blocks from MI Ave. I really enjoyed the Lemonade with Chia and the La Catedral enchiladas. My favorite was the chips and guacamole. Chips are made fresh in-house and are delicious!Wait staff were friendly and efficient. Would recommend for lunch menu. Did not try the breakfast but looks delicious too!

    Agua Fresca was delicious

Food was ok. Ordered carne asada burrito and the meat was dry . but customer service was excellent and the agua Fresca was delicious. They were about to close maybe that's why the burrito wasn't at its prime. Will try again see if it's better quality. Easy to find

Chilaquiles verdes with stewed chicken...a beautiful mess of flavor!

I ran here to write a review! I'm not a big breakfast eater, so when I choose to get breakfast, it HAS to be good! La Catedral did not disappoint. I ordered to-go because we were heading to the airport that morning. The service was friendly, and our food came out hot and fresh. While I waited, I could see the dining areas, and they were bright, clean, and accommodating (large booths, etc.) I got the chilaquiles verdes (and added stewed chicken), and it was spectacular! My egg was cooked perfectly (over medium), the beans were perfection, and the level of spice was perfection. I also grabbed a coffee with cream and vanilla, and it was delicious. I'm not a fancy coffee girlie...I just like a solid cup o' Joe. This hit the spot! Avoid the wait and the crowds elsewhere. This is where you should be when your breakfast/coffee cravings hit!

Excellent chilaquiles! Went twice on our Chicago visit. The staff was very accommodating as we were headed to the airport and had luggage to store. Guacamole and chips were great as was the coffee.

The staff were really welcoming, for an early morning. I got the hot chocolate. Honestly that's exactly what I needed that morning. It had that real Mexican chocolate taste. Thick, creamy, smooth and rich. The cinnamon came through warm but not too strong, plus a little extra on top that hit your nose before the first sip. Sweet and it almost had this slight earthy note too... hard to explain but good. It even had that little design on top, like the ones they do on cappuccinos. Didn't expect that but it was cool. I finished it slow. Didn't wanna rush it. Just sat there taking small sips and enjoying it while it was still hot.

Set in an old warehouse that is now an art gallery event space and restaurant nestled in an older warehouse district in Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. Beautiful decor and laid out perfectly. The natural wood floors furniture ie tables chairs etc and iron work throughout sets the ambiance for old meets new. It works. The wide spacing between tables makes for a comfortable dining experience. So many folks come in to do their work and dine here. What a super addition to the neighborhood that less than a decade ago was essentially a street that was more a run down semi-truck alley. Great menu with neighborhood favorites leaning toward the old school Italian dishes. Sandwiches, soups, salads, and breakfasts just to name a few are all excellent. The pastries are insane and a must take home deal. I love the American Breakfast. Three eggs your way, thick diced America potatoes, thick cut bacon, and sourdough toast. Accompanied by what I believe to be home made jelly and for sure homemade gardiniera. Caruso's gardiniera actually. Diced into a relish unlike most standard gardiniera it's easier to eat with many dishes. Excellent flavor and just the right kick to it. FYI Dolce Arte also sells a to go line of homemade Caruso products from their gardiniera to past and past sauces and more. Yes, their coffee is really good too. Lavazza products I believe. The service is always on point. Casual but on point. Very friendly staff from diverse backgrounds.
