First, it is worth noting that this is now Gather Bakehouse - same owners, but the name has changed because they no longer make macarons. I never had a chance to try the macarons, and honestly only found this one because the place that I normally get cinnamon rolls from when I went to treat myself was closed for a holiday break, so I decided to use yelp and branch out and find something new. I was not disappointed! I also tried a ham and cheese, croissant, which was delicious, but I will definitely be back for the cinnamon rolls. They also sell day old cinnamon rolls at a discounted rate, and I am eager to try those as well, because I love the idea of food not going to waste, saving money, and I heat up my cinnamon rolls anyway so I bet it would still be delicious! If not, I am happy to pay full price for the fresh kind, especially knowing that the bakery helps support community members with food insecurity (see photo). They have a sourdough membership, and even though I make my own sourdough (with mixed results), I believe I will try this just so that I can experience all the different varieties they create. First and foremost, I am big on Parisian pastries especially chocolate croissants. My fiancée told me I had to try ham rolls on Sundays "because it is a Wisconsin tradition". So we came here one Sunday and got a pound of ham, cheddar cheese and onion rolls. We also had one chocolate croissant and a sprinkled donut for some sweetness in our lives. When we got home she put together these sacred traditions like it was Christmas morning and I had to patiently wait to be told to dig in. Well, not only did I dig in but the ROLLS--they were so crunchy on the outside with the perfect amount of onion and soft/chewy on inside. It went so well with the ham and cheddar that I literally drooled after my first bite for a second. I only use one piece of cheese for two slices of ham, I found that while I might be marrying a Cheese Head, I am slowly becoming one and two was too many. I was also told that it was a cardinal sin to put my BBQ kettle chips in my roll for extra crunch and favor. It didn't need it but I thought why not put everything on my plate together. I'd go back just for the ham rolls on Sunday--if my fiancée would let me lol. The pastries though? The croissant was almost spot on to the ones we had in Paris. I could only tell a slight difference in the layers and butter but it isn't important. This is a gem of a place and while it takes a minute to order and go--it's TOTALLY WORTH IT! read more

I'm so excited there's now a location closer to home! I've been following their journey for a while--totally obsessed with their creatively shaped macarons--and even took a macaron class at their Menomonee Falls spot. I had to stop by for their Dubai Chocolate Takeover Day--I'm such a fan of those flavors and couldn't wait to see the creativity in action. Despite it being the morning of the Milwaukee Marathon (parking was a bit tricky!), I made it and even found a spot. Usually, parking in the area is a breeze, and it wasn't too busy when I went. I treated myself to the Dubai Brownie, Dubai Cream Puff, Dubai Macaron, and the W.A.P. latte--can you tell I'm into the Dubai theme? Everything was incredible, and that brownie was so rich and decadent. Honestly, I wish I could've taken home the whole display case! They also offer hot ham and rolls on Sundays, mouthwatering deli sandwiches, locally made goodies (like tots, lumpia, and fish), plus your classic bakery favorites. So happy that Battet & Mac opened up here! Their hot ham and rolls are delicious! The last two times I was here, I jumped on the Dubai chocolate trend. I've had the Dubai croissant, the lil scrappy Dubai version and Dubai cake donut. All of it was very good. At 8 on a Sunday morning the line is long. Customers seem confident about getting their ham and rolls, but after that? Loads of indecision. Sweets looked good, but I was there for small dinner rolls. Really great options. Different types of breads and cakes. Sundays line was really long and out the door into the sidewalk. Line was going at a steady pace. Once inside since it was my first I grabbed a little of everything. The employees were pretty nice but were a little pushy to hurry up. Could be because of the line so I get it. They do have a drip coffee both hot and cold. I grabbed both. They weren't super delicious leaving me wanting more but it was good enough for on the go. I went the first day it opened at this location and man was I blown out of the water with how amazing it was. From the long johns to the cookies to the brownies all of it was incredible and standard pricing. But there's one thing that took the cake and will make me come back every week... THE CINNAMON ROLL! It's truly one of the best cinnamon rolls I've had! The roll is mixed between a warm soft challah and croissant crispy outer layer and a warm sweet cinnamon sugar flavor inside topped with cream cheese frosting! I will sell my soul for Batter & Mac to keep cronuts on the regular menu. They are SO good and I wish I would have taken a dozen home with me. I can only hope there will be more tomorrow. Batter & Mac had big shoes to fill opening in the old Lakeside spot and I think they've done a phenomenal job. They have breads, donuts, pastries, other sweets, and of course, hot ham on the weekend. My favorite has been their donuts and obviously the cronuts. Their display cases are full of the goodies and every employee has been kind and quick. I look forward to continuing working my way through the regular menu and all of the experimental items. read more

I was welcomed into Bay View on a recent cold, dark winter evening. I was on my way to an apartment I had rented in an emergency situation, necessarily signing a lease online without knowing the neighborhood and without seeing the apartment irl. I slowed as Siri directed me to prepare to turn, and saw a bakery. YES! A BAKERY!! But it looked closed. Perhaps permanently. My heart sank, but I had much bigger fish to fry as I settled into my beautiful new home. When I came up for air days later, I drove past the bakery in bright sunshine, and delighted in seeing that it was indeed open. In I went, and open my mouth went. I saw in the cases delicacies that I hadn't seen since I'd last been to France! Here, in Bay View! If you see the Paris Brest, get one. The Midnight Choux? Get TWO! (Seriously, they're last-meal worthy!!) Opera cake? Check. Assorted Italian cookies? Check. Macarons? You don't need me to tell you; it's in the name. A satisfying donut is hard to find (I'm a picky former professional pastry person), but I sure find them at B'n'M! The yeast doughnuts and peanut Pershings are always perfectly prepared; over-frying is my top doughnut complaint because it leads to crispy-hard edges and a dry interior, but these chefs nail it every time. They have bread, but you can see I live on delicious fat and tasty sugar. Front of house staff are unfailingly courteous and helpful, an asset to our neighborhood as they serve customers and welcome folks who can use a bit of help and some kindness. Prices are very reasonable, they have a generous rewards program, the atmosphere is nice, everything looks clean. The antiques lover in me adores that they have the old Lakeside Bakery sign in the shop, even though I never had the pleasure of knowing that establishment. I understand this B'n'M location hasn't been open all that long, so I really hope folks get in and help me keep them going. read more

Batter & Mac is a GEM!! The staff is ALWAYS so friendly, warm and welcoming. The bakery items always taste so fresh and delicious. Literally some of the best donuts I've had in awhile! Their coffee is also amazing and so reasonably priced. I choose Batter & Mac over Starbucks overpriced coffee any day. I cannot recommend Batter & Mac enough! I wish they had indoor seating but that doesn't take away from how amazing this business is! read more
