We had our one year old's cake picked up this morning at 9am. The order was placed in advance. While the cake isn't terrible... the price and quality just don't match. The color is wrong, the wording is not where it was discussed. The wording itself is wrong. We were told we could pick it up as early as 6 but opted for 9. Her party started at 10. She arrived at 8:50 and she was told the cake wasn't ready. They were rushing to do the lettering on the cake. She did finally get it at 9:20 but with her being 19 she was not going to point out the defects. She waited to get with us, adults, so we could address it. They did show her the cake as they quickly boxed it. So they didn't ask her if it was right... Realistically they wouldn't be able to fix it. The color is supposed to be light blue but I suppose turquoise is close... smh. This would not be easily corrected and it's fine. It would have just been nice for them to do what was discussed like the lettering around the base because our daughter's name is too long for the top. I like how they wrote it over the decoration even though this was not supposed to happen. Oh! And instead of "Charlotte's First Birthday" it's "Charlotte first birthday" in poor condensed font to fit it in. The cake isnt terrible but I expect better quality for $80. It isn't what we wanted. I did call them and let them know but again, what can they do. I'm including photos. I would have rather pay a fraction and order from Publix. They never do me wrong. And while it's more basic I get what I ask for. We did get cupcakes too. They turned out ok but it's a real disappointment about our daughter's first cake. Not the end of the world but a disappointment I'd like to spare others from if possible. read more

Stopped in early to grab some breakfast and a few goodies before leaving town. Loved the hometown feel of the bakery. Staff members were very friendly and helpful. French Toast was excellent! Huge portion size. Cinnamon rolls that I brought were a hit as well. Only negative feedback was with the 12 count assorted homestyle cookies. Cookies were very crunchy, in my opinion a little over baked. Great experience, great area, with a very welcoming environment. read more

Edgar's Bakery is an Alabama treasure. In the near 20 years since I was first introduced to Edgar's, the bakery has expanded across the Birmingham area and added multiple locations in Huntsville. I have not had a strawberry cake or cupcake in all my travels that can rival Edgar's strawberry cake. I challenge you to. The employees were nice and exhibited the Southern charm you'd expect. The dining tables are lined up against the windows and extend into the middle of the space. The rest of the interior space is occupied by various tables and stands of baked goods and treats. This visit was my first time ever having food. I ordered the bacon omelet with grits and toast. It was fine, nothing spectacular. It was good enough for me to eat there again but nothing that I'd say you have to go out and get. If you haven't tried the strawberry cake or strawberry cupcake, you HAVE TO- MUST- stop in and try one or both of them. read more

Edgar's is a well-known bakery with a few locations around Huntsville. I tried the popular location in the "village" of Providence. In a bakery for breakfast, I ordered the cinnamon roll but was very unimpressed. It was surprisingly cold and dry. However, I did enjoy the Chicken Melt, which has avocado, peppers, and cheese. The avocado was by far my favorite. Though the side of pasta salad tasted like one of those grocery store deli items that sit behind the case all day. While it's hard to mess up cinnamon rolls and pasta salad, perhaps I ordered the wrong baked goods, so I may give Edgar's another shot. read more

Listen, update to my previous review. I'm still extraordinarily disappointed in this cake, but to their credit the manager after seeing my review did reach out to me. I did get a refund. Fix I actually had already called my bank and they had already credited me because I had paid for strawberries which I did not get in the cake was a disaster. My concern about ordering a cake ever again would be if this was a baby shower or something really special not that my daughter's birthday wasn't but it was Family. If you ordered a cake for a party and you got this, you would be beyond furious. What has happened to this place? 4/6/23 The tall, blonde, female with all the necklaces cashier was an unfriendly robot, she wasn't helpful at all. I asked what came on a sandwich and she said here's a menu you can read it, I had to step out of line and dig for my reading glasses and read the menu (The menu board doesn't list what's on each sandwich.) It's been a year or so since we have eaten at Edgar's and I noticed their pre sliced cake are now half the size they were before. My Apple Jack sandwich didn't have the usual cranberry bread but instead served it on walnut bread. The walnut bread crust was so hard I could barely bite through. For a cranberry sandwich, there were no cranberries on it at all. Very disappointing. In addition, in the past when you order a side you always got chips with your meal. I got no chips today. Now the tea, on the other hand, was the best in all of Huntsville The place look the same still cute. read more

Rude. Came from surgery and just wanted to take something to go. Got a nose bleed and headed to bathroom. My husband was trying to find napkins. The girls saw us when we came in at 2:30 and ignored us as they wanted to close early. My husband ended up buying napkins while we waited for bathroom as they wouldn't answer where the napkins were. . After I got it cleaned up and went to purchase some items they wouldn't answer questions on the baked goods. A young woman came from the back to cash us out. I'm going to preface this by saying I was in a hurry, and I came in around 9:00 (end of the breakfast rush when people were leaving. I ordered French toasts and bacon. I sat there for about 25 minutes. Several people came, ate, and left while I waited. About 20 minutes into my wait they did come out and tell me my food would be out soon. I assumed they were baking the bread fresh or waiting for a chicken to crap out a fresh egg. Food finally showed up. The food was good, but I was now late and had to scarf it down and didn't get to enjoy it. So, I didn't get to leisurely enjoy my $14 breakfast. I should've swung by the Golden Arches, picked up a McGriddle and cup of coffee and ate in my car while driving. Food was good, service below standard. Excellent sandwiches and desserts. Most of the menus on here are out of date. They no longer offer tuna salads, for example. Go thru line to order at counter, they give you a number, you dispense your drink (unless it's hot tea), and they bring your food out to you. Beautiful presentation. read more

At the beginning of the pandemic, the hubs and I were all about supporting local! :) Neither of us had tried Edgar's and we decided we would give it a try. I had the reuben. A reuben is such a rare treat for me that I was really excited to try Edgar's! We live about 20 miles-ish (a 25-30 minute drive) from the Edgar's Providence location and by the time my husband offloaded our orders from the car I was so so very very sad. The reuben had turned to complete mush! It did not travel well at all. :( The bread was pure mush. I managed to eat the meat, but I was really expecting a good solid (as in excellent and as in "one piece easy to eat form") sandwich. Hopefully their takeout packaging has improved since then, this was probably late March, early April (who can keep track of time anymore?). I don't recall what the hubs ordered and he's not picky at all. I'll bet you he got the chicken quesadilla (one of his favorites!) I'm sure he was fine with his meal. Again, I hope I'm knocking them for a less-than-adroit response to a global pandemic. Disappointed with Edgar's as our Saturday brunch choice. We all wish we had gone elsewhere. Initial walk-in found 4 in line- dirty tables everywhere. The little girl taking our order was not friendly and after every item asked, "anything else". YES we have 3 people One southwest omelet please (anything else) yes a chai tea (anything else)... Lord. Husband had the southwest omelet- the sausage is so overwhelming with herbs it ruins the flavor of the meal, the sausage was like hamburger consistency, dense and dry. The oatmeal was so watery it was tasteless no matter how many toppings were put in. My huevos rancheros were a sloppy mess with toppings in only one tortilla. Drinks took forever and still waiting after we received food. Strawberry danish had barely any "strawberry" This was a very expensive meal for the quality, service and wait and for my daughter to walk out hungry because the oatmeal is disgusting and you can't get anyone to help you because they are so disorganized and frantic. read more

Having marketed nearly all Village of Providence restaurants abd stores upon it first opening while our concierge service servicing village of Providence offered grocery store and fast food delivery, dry cleaning pickup and drop off, holiday food boxes and decor services (back when the Heritage Club was running), Edgar's was the addition that had been missing for some time! Wonderful pastries, cakes, pies, custards, deli... Very nice seating area by glass windows. Sort of a modern day delicatessen style setting with a blend of French Parisian window views of Providence Main. Nice place to get in line for a pickup, or to sit in and dine, abd do a bit of novelty shopping while you wait for your meal (made to order). 5/5 across the board! read more

A quick walk from the hotel we're staying at, I've passed Edgar's before. Just never been inside. It's a pretty cool place, infrastructure-wise. The staff is young, and a bit unprofessional from what I saw, so they aren't necessarily efficient at moving through people in line or getting them to move to process those waiting. For instance, while I was waiting, there was a group of four and literally they touched every single container in the refrigerator case by the register. I got so fed up with it, I walked out. We're still in COVID, and the complete selfishness of touching everything really chapped my behind. However, it was in the midst of a torrential downpour, so I had plenty of time to wait outside. My son, who has more patience, stuck around and bought a German chocolate cupcake and a box of thumbprint cookies. We were about 30 minutes before closing, so there wasn't much that tickled my fancy, but the thumbprints did the trick. Not too dry, but not moist. More dry than moist. The alternating vanilla and chocolate frostings were were ok, and a little bland. Again, I don't know how long they were sitting there. He liked the cupcake, but thought the frosting was a bit flavorless. Said he would not get it again. Overall, it's the only bakery within walking distance of my hotel. It's a captive audience, at least for me, and the only game if i didn't want to fire up the truck... and in this weather I didn't. read more

Bakery treats are impressive! Food is mediocre... The food to me was super comparable to like Corner Bakery or Panera lol, which was a little sad cause I feel like the could just maybe have a smaller menu and do some things really well rather than trying to have more options and it just ends up being like a chain feel of food. Stopped by this bakery because of a sweet tooth craving and I'm so glad I did. This bakery is super cute and has a variety of baked goods. We stopped by around dinner time just to see what they had and decided upon a chocolate covered Oreo and a few macaroons. Unfortunately I ate the Oreo the next day and it was a bit stale tasting but that's probably my fault for waiting. However, the macarons were definitely the highlight. I tried the vanilla (fave!), raspberry (too sweet imo and tasted like jam), and coconut (delish)! I would definitely come back just for those but I hope to try more from them in the future. The service here is amazing! They are so sweet! We got tons of stuff, macarons for $2/each which is great. Loaves of cheese bread for $5/each Some things were pricey like cheese straws and cookies. They have a ton of items though and everything is very pretty and the cannoli we bought was worth the whole trip alone. Its got plenty of ricotta filling and was just sweet enough. I am new to the macaron crazy, and for that I feel as though I have wasted my desert experience. I had them for the first time while I was in San Diego, and I've been looking for the same quality ever sense. I can say, my comparison list is small but these are exceptional. I will be back for more the next time I'm in the area. I also had a piece of German chocolate cake, and that's honestly why I can't give 5 stars, the cake was nothing close to German chocolate and with this being my all time favorite cake, I have a ton of comparable tasting and theirs lacked in flavor. They had so many different options so I will give them more opportunity to change my mind, but no matter what I will return for their macarons. I thought it would be nice to take my wife to Edgar's in Providence last Saturday for breakfast. As we had good memories of a very nice experience. We were used to seeing full display cases for a bakery items, and the freshly made items in the cold case. When we walked in half of the display cases were empty. The The refrigerated display cases were also half empty. Ordered scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, potatoes and a hot coffee. Unfortunately, the sausage was so bad that I could only take one bite. It didn't taste like real pork, but some kind of of manufactured item. The scrambled eggs had obviously been made sometime earlier and place in a steamer pan. They were hard and chewy. Then you get to the coffee. When you go somewhere to have a nice breakfast and a danish you would like hot coffee. Unfortunately, the coffee was lukewarm, not hot. The overall ambience of the place had left and it looked like the Owners had given up. That's very unfortunate. We have good memories of Edgar's but I think that is where we're going to leave it. And that is also sad and unfortunate. read more

This place is awesome. I recommend and really enjoyed the treats we purchased. I tried the sugar cookie which was fresh and soft. The decorations were nice. The German chocolate cupcake was yummy. I tried the common roll as well which melts in your mouth. The icing on the cake was the cleanliness and customer service.
