I can't believe my fellow Yelpers have given this place an overall 3 star rating?. I'm glad I didn't go by the reviews and took my family here for the first time tonight, Despite my occasionally wailing 1 yr old everyone was so welcoming here. They even brought me a plate of hot rolls for the baby( she was hungry) before we ordered. Well the fried chicken was amazing. Perfectly seasoned huge pieces. Addictive crunchy breading. Just about everything is scratch made here from the fantastic bread, pies, ice cream( not to be missed). We enjoyed the corn fritters, cheesy mac and cheese, creamy cole slaw, Apple wood chicken and apple cider to drink. So many options for dessert. They have a huge selection of pies and sundae treats. The ice cream reminds me of my great grandmothers and I haven't had anything like hers since she passed in 1985. The lines are long on the weekend( we tried but gave up Sunday). But don't let that deter you. It's worth the wait. Or come back on a weekday. Kids eat free on Mondays too. We didn't wait at all for a table tonight :-). read more

I've been coming since the early 1980's with my great grandmother, who had been coming for many years before that. It hasn't changed at all - same great quality food, same low prices, same friendly service. The area around it has changed - it used to be nothing but farm land. Go hungry. And plan to stop by the store there or drive to the farm for even more great produce, dairy products, and pies! Sunday is another good time to go as the special is turkey - delicious! read more

Baugher's is the real deal! Folks that have read my reviews know that aside from being in search of the perfect pizza, I love food trucks, top of the line restaurants and everything in between. As with Anthony Bourdain, it is about the feel, how food is prepared, etc. Baugher's is not a top of the line restaurant; it is a local "mom and pop" restaurant and county store, in the same location for over 65 years. When you walk in, it is like walking back in time - which is a good thing. The restaurant was filled regulars, most of which seemed to know each other visiting while eating. We had the hot turkey sandwich was mashed potatoes and the hot roast beef sandwich with fries. Probably noticing I was "not from around these parts" (shades of "Silverado") I was asked if I wanted gravy on my fries (it's a Baltimore thing). Being from Baltimore - of course I do. Both were excellent; hot, great bread, nicely sliced roast beef and turkey. As good as our meal was, when the table a couple over from ours got theirs of fried chicken..."I wish I had fried chicken" - smelled fantastic. We ended up getting desert, some of their homemade ice cream - woo hoo! If you are looking for shiny glitz of the mega-restaurant type places Baugher's is not for you. If you are willing to step beyond that and "eat local" - Baugher's is worth the try and how! read more

Funny thing about Baugher's is that when I lived here before I never ate there...just wasn't on my radar I guess. I thought of it as "that old place full of old people." Now that I'm older, I'm starting to appreciate being able to get a home-cooked meal that I don't have to cook at a very reasonable price and friendly service to boot. It's not upscale by any means, but it's not trying to be...it's a local hangout and for the money, you can get a satisfying meal. Tonight I had the baked chicken dinner, with mashed potatoes and lima beans and it was pretty darn tasty...the chicken was really tender (I didn't expect that for some reason)...so yeah, I'm kinda a fan. read more

(06/16/2010) Had lunch out in Carroll County after a work meeting. Go for the atmosphere (divey, if you like that kind of thing), food's a little bland. I was worried about this place only having 3 stars, but my friend and I thought it was great! Homestyle diner with friendly waitress. After asking what was popular, I ordered the hot turkey with French fries. It was really good comfort food. My friend had the big bubba fish special and corn fritters. Both were very good. She also had the crab soup. It was not what we expected being a vegetable broth style, but it was very flavorful with a kick. We went for peach desserts, since it is peach season. I had peach pie with vanilla ice cream and it was Awesome!!! My friend chose the shortcake and was a little disappointed because the cake was more sponge type than biscuit like. I rate Baugher's high for their consistency. If it's good, it stays good. If it's bad, well that's consistent too! There are generally three kinds of restaurants, fast, good and cheap. Baughers is a little of all those. It's certainly not gourmet dining, it's a place to be well fed, I was upset that they changed their fried chicken recipe a while back, but they said after a few decades, some customer's didn't care for the chicken color? It's still good, cooked to order, and served by the plate full every night. The pie's have changed some, especially the crust after Mrs. Baugher passed away, but they are still a proper pie. Ice cream is home made and pretty good, with a wide variety. The wait staff changes frequently, but for a few, it's a career job. They get to know you, and your habits, maybe a bit too well! Yes, there's been issues from time to time but in all it's an easy kick back place to eat. Stop in, grab a bite and take a can of peaches (by the door) home with you. They're like fresh cut! The breakfast menu is limited as the day goes on so get there early if that's to be your meal. read more

This restaurant was fine. We waited close to 30 minutes for our food which wasn't cooked how we had ordered it. My eggs and my friend's steak were both overdone. My other friend who ordered chocolate chip pancakes said they were good- but how can you really mess up a pancake? I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2 because the staff was very pleasant and the prices were great. read more

Having been here many times, I have never had what I would consider a bad meal and would recommend trying it at least once. We've been going here for close to 30 years and have rarely been disappointed. This is truly a local business and frequented by many longtime regulars. For good reason! The rolls that come with the meal are unequaled in softness and just a touch sweet. They are homemade right there and you can tell. Little clouds of yeasty heaven. The fried chicken is what they are most well known for and if made fresh, so be prepared to wait about 20 minutes or so but week with the wait. The corn fritters and the Apple fritters are glorious as well. The ambience is definitely "old farmer" but it is perfect for this spot and it gives you a nice homey and warm feeling. Their ice cream I'd made there as well and really very good as are their pies. Do yourself a favor and ride out into the country and treat yourself to some nighty fine home style cooking! read more

Menu choices are limited to fat on fat with fat on the side. No healthy food whatsoever, even taking into account they also have a market with fresh fruits and veggies nex door. A classic family diner! The food is always served hot and all ingredients are fresh, mostly from the nearby farms! Staff is always friendly and personable. You simply cannot have a slice of pie anywhere else that will even compare. Baugher's pis and ice creams are homemade. The crust is delicate and flaky. The filling tastes like it was picked fresh and baked. Get it a la mode. Their ice cream is decadent and creamy. You will be in pie heaven. Dinner, drink, dessert, and coffee for my husband and I cost about $30. We discovered Baughers, the restaurant, on our quest for local unprocessed honey. What a find! This is a Westminster institution since 1948. It is homey food, plentiful and reasonably priced: great place for family dinners. Fried chicken is my weakness and I was blown away by their chicken. The four piece platter is huge! I like it when you are able to order the exact pieces that you want. Be prepared to wait for the chicken to fry because it comes to you directly out of the frier, super crunchy, hot, moist! The platters come with two rolls and two sides. We chose the french fries, apple fritters, potato salad and cole slaw. They tasted exactly the way your grandmother would make them. The menu has something for everyone and children eat free on Mondays. The dessert menu features all manner of pies and ice creams. The waitstaff couldn't have been nicer. read more

Our party of six enjoyed our meal at Baugher's. The place is not fancy (more old-fashioned) with an extensive menu, including a wide selection of sides and desserts. I was initially uneasy. A sign said, "Please Sit Yourself," which meant that we walked around, unacknowledged by anyone, looking for a table that would be big enough. Three waitresses were together, one putting together place settings at a counter and one eating at a table while a third chatted with her in a gossipy tone. Meanwhile, there were un-bussed dirty tables about. The only table big enough was cleared but not clean, and my wife cleaned it with antibacterial soap. One chair was wet with a soda spill and I exchanged the chair with a nearby table. The carpet was very dirty and near our table was a dead bug on its back. Unfortunately, as others have mentioned, we were also bothered by bugs (gnats in this case) throughout the meal. Our waitress ended up being nice and attentive, and our food (consisting mainly of their many vegetarian sides) was good to very good. In particular, the fresh hot dinner rolls were a nice way to start the meal. Their simple grilled cheese sandwich was terrific. Their homemade potato salad was also a standout. Also liked were the corn fritters, apple fritters, and mac & cheese. One of our guests had a huge burger with bacon and an egg, which he said was pretty good. Several of us ended the meal with their good homemade ice cream. Given their reasonable prices and fine selection of good, homemade food, we would love to give them an even higher rating. Perhaps next time, the dining area will have a cleaner carpet, no bugs, and clean tables & chairs. read more

My Fiance' and I decided to check this place out on Sunday. It was quite busy but I guess that's to be expected as many of the church crowds had just let out and we had no problem waiting. The problems began as we started to notice things such as how dirty the floors were, it's a seat yourself restaurant and none of the tables were being cleaned in a timely manner, making the wait longer and illusion of a clean table a struggle. Once we were seated our waitress came and took our orders, she was pleasant. My fiance' and I each ordered a burger as well as side salads and a drink. Our salads were fine aside from the fact that instead of cutting the tomatoes at all we were given just two slices on top of the small bowl that were almost as big as the rest of the salad. Now for people who love tomatoes I'm sure that isn't an issue, the real issue came when my fiance' bit into his burger and found that the patty paper had been left on and he was now chewing it. Not only was that disgusting and an appetite ruiner but when we told the waitress she just said "okay, okay" and nervously scurried back to the kitchen. She returned after to collect the patty paper and then the manager arrived and apologized thoroughly, she's a nice woman and she comped us for my husbands burger(which was for the best because he had no interest in eating it after that). This place has country charm, friendly employees and the market attached to it is beautiful and has great produce and that's the only reason I'm giving it two stars. read more

We ordered fried chicken with sides. The sides came out cold. We had to finally wave our waitress over and waited over 5 minutes for hot sides to come back out. Our waitress never came back even to give us a refill. She made no eye contact although talked to the people at the table next to us and walked by us. We will not be going back. read more

Came here for a quick dinner and was pretty disappointed. They had a menu that did not offer very meat-free options. Finally ordered fried haddock and was thoroughly disgusted with what they brought to me. I got two square pieces of "fish." The waitress could tell that this was not what I was expecting when I ordered fish. It looked like frozen fish you could buy at a grocery store that they just reheated. We LOVE this place for breakfast! We go just about every Saturday. Our favorites are the chipped beef gravy on toast and the pancakes. Not a bad price and it's a nice little country dining experience. Very fast service too! In the fall and winter their hot apple cider is the best! read more
