I'm not sure how many stars to leave for this company. They are reasonable with install prices and did a great job installing our new Air Conditioning unit back in 2021. It stopped working in June of 2024. They came out the next day to look at it (which we were very grateful for). However, the problem was electrical, so they did not resolve it (we had to bring in an electrician). I was shocked when I saw the bill for the service visit. I expected the $100 through the door fee that they told us about over the phone and expected to pay a little more to diagnose the problem/for the hourly rate. However, I was charged for the $100 service fee, plus another $63 for them to "Rinse off condenser coil water only." That is exactly what the line item says in the bill. I'm not happy that they charged me $63 to use my hose and water rinse off cotton from the unit. Actually, I had rinsed off the condenser the day before, which is even more frustrating. Honestly, if they labeled it in the bill as their hourly service fee rate, I wouldn't be as upset. In the end, the issue was electrical, so they likely couldn't have fixed the AC anyway. It was just frustrating that they charged so much to use my hose and water to spray something off for a few minutes when I could have done this myself for free. read more

Incredible service, start to finish! I highly, highly, highly recommend B&D for your HVAC issues. 1. Let's first admit that few of us enjoy spending money on house things that are basically invisible. Myself included. 2. I bought my house in Park Township a year ago, and I still don't have furniture in the living room. The plan was to tackle those purchases this summer, but alas, my a/c went out. ‍ So I called the company my folks' have used for decades, and the experience was lackluster at best. 3. So I called B&D for an estimate--and they were here within 2 days! Chad was super helpful, answered a bunch of questions, then sent a straightforward quote with options. He was wonderful to deal with. 4. After choosing a/c and furnace pair, B&D scheduled the installs quickly and as promised. Dan and Jon arrived on time, were friendly and respectful of my home, made sure everything functioned correctly, and made sure I knew how to use the new system. They were fabulous. 5. Lastly, if you don't know, purchasing a/c with a furnace qualifies for rebates. And we're talking serious rebates if you're willing pay more up front (and hold off on living room furniture a bit longer ). Plus I didn't even have to deal with that paperwork process myself--Kim handles it with ease. She was awesome. The Baumann and DeGroot team is simply amazing from start to finish. We purchased a new gas furnace and AC unit from Baumann and De Groot in early 2020. With it came a brochure about 10 year warrenty coverage on the units. short story. Furnace malfunctioned during the extreeme cold mid January 2024. Technician arrived the next day and diagnosed the issue; said there would be a diagnostic charge but amount unknown. The following day another technician repaired the under warrenty damaged parts of a 4 year furnace and repeated that diagnostic charge was unknown. Repair work seems to be done well. No issue with it. The issue is with the billing The bill had a diagnostic charge, OK I can live with it. The issue is the parts dept also charged me $60 truck fee for traveling 5 miles. I contested that charge and parts manager stated charges are clearly stated in the warrenty info. NOT SO. I never obtained that info in writing when I bought the furnance. $12 a mile truck charge for warrenty repair seems sinful to me. I have paid the bill as I always pay the bills. Beware of this situation before dealing with this company. read more

I had a very frustrating experience with Baumann & DeGroot Heating & Cooling. With no estimate or quote provided, they spent an entire day working on my boiler and failed to address the reason for the service call, which was to bring the downstairs heating zone back online. On top of that, several leaks developed during their work, and they left the job site in that state. Subsequently, I had to empty a bucket that collected over 2 gallons of water each day. In short, they left the heating in my home in a worse state than when they arrived. When the technicians were packing up for the day, they admitted that the work should not have been performed and it would have been better to instead replace the boiler with a new unit. After communicating to the service manager that I would minimally like them to return to fix the leaks, he sent a $700 quote for services in addition to the work already performed, which I declined. This was far more than I was willing to put into an old boiler given that I was already considering replacing it. Additionally, I had a very unprofessional conversation with the service manager when I disputed paying the $500+ bill for the services. Even though it was waste of time and money, I stated that I would have paid the bill in full if they had not left my house in such a state of disrepair. The service manager was condescending and refused to acknowledge their mistakes, which was very disappointing. At one point, he actually said that I should have been happy with the leaks because the only option would have been to cut heat to the entire house. Had I known that these were the only possible outcomes, I would have never contacted this company. He didn't seem to understand why I wouldn't give them a $7,000 boiler replacement job after they had done a $500 job so poorly and thought that they were owed a second chance. One of his chief complaints was that I did not contact them to retrieve parts that they used in their service visit, which concerns me that they may salvage used parts and install them in other homes. I'm extremely dissatisfied with the service I received and would not recommend this company to anyone. I proceeded to get several quotes from different companies, many of whom were critical of Baumann & Degroot's work and recommendations for my home, which ultimately led me to decide to work with a different company. I ended up having the boiler unit replaced by Mast Heating & Cooling. They were very knowledgeable, provided excellent customer service, and completed a full install of a new unit to code in less time than Baumann & DeGroot spent in their initial service call. In contrast to Baumann & DeGroot, they took time to understand my goals, performed a full assessment, and laid out options before starting any work. read more

My experience was OK with This company. For the most part they did well but did fall short a bit from a overall good experience. They installed two central air conditioning units in my rental duplex and had a good price point and were really great in getting a quote to me. They were supposed to coordinate with the electrician (my big ask from the first time I got the quote) and failed to do so after getting the electrician out for an estimate. The day of install the technicians asked when the electrician would be there... umm not good! A firestorm of calls and emails later, the super helpful and apologetic electrician worked it all out. The service tech was knowledgeable and friendly, but we were overcharged...called to get an explanation...and no one called back...not impressed at all with their customer service...we were charged $150 an hour...and charged an extra $39 for spraying off our outdoor unit (with our own water!) Also ..charged $72 for a wire harness when a small piece of wire from a spool was used. I wouldn't recommend them... read more

I had a new furnace, A/C. New humidifier, and Thermostat units installed by Baumann & DeGroot on January 7, 2020. The old furnace and A/C were Trane units. I had estimates from three vendors. B & D submitted estimates for three different makes that they sell. I decided that after a review of different products that I would replace mine with Carrier units. One of the reasons that I went with Baumann & DeGroot and Carrier was they have a much better warranty than other vendors. With a warranty it is something you hope you never need but if you do need warranty work you want the best one you can get. Baumann & DeGroot had two installers, Loren and RJ. On-site. The men showed up on time. The men reviewed the old set up and laid drop cloths over all the areas that would be susceptible to dirt etc. The area was as clean or cleaner when they left than when they started. Because I went from 80,000 furnace to a high efficiency they had to run new intake and exhaust fittings. The humidifier required new fittings to run the water to the unit. The guys took time to show me how to work the new thermostat, humidifier, reviewed the new features of the furnace Another reason I went with B & G was they partner with non-profits whose mission benefits our community. I had a question and the office (Kim) was very helpful. I talked with a friend of mine and she used Baumann and Degroot to replace her furnace also and she was happy with the service. I definitely would recommend Baumann and DeGroot in the future. read more

Our old hot water heater was dying and we were looking to get a new one before our family visited for the holidays. I called Baumann & Dagroot. They explained they could do a quote over the phone but when I requested a physical quote, they offered to get someone there by the next day. Chad came out and described exactly what was occurring with our old hot water heater. He proposed a solution after listening carefully to how we used our showers, baths and appliances. They installed a beautiful new tank-less water heater and it works like a dream. The installation crew was friendly and efficient and left our house looking great. You would have never known they removed a very old 50 gallon tank through our finished basement. Everyone had hot water this year for Christmas! We will return to Baumann & Dagroot for all our heating and cooling needs! read more

My heat was off in the morning, I called service to come out. By the time they arrived later that day, the heat had returned. The service person could not diagnose the original problem but stated I had small cracks in my heat exchange (no leaking) and I would need a new furnace. Being single and a woman, I asked if I could see the cracks because we went from no imminent problem to a new furnace very quickly. The service tech stated he had already covered the panel and it would take him more time to open it and show me (meaning more $$-which Josh J admitted it would have). I asked about a picture of the problem. He said he had not taken one. I refused the extra effort, paid him $100 for the visit and he left. I spoke with a few friends that had previously been in the business and they said they always took pictures or showed the client the problem area. they suggested calling back and asking for someone to come back free of charge to show me the cracks. I did and B&G agreed, or so I thought. The new tech showed up, showed me what he said were cracks and left. I was relatively happy and about to order a new furnace from Baumann & DeGroot... until I received a $40 bill in the mail for the visit. I called and spoke with Josh J., he said I never agreed to free and both of his service administrative assistants, one of whom I spoke with to schedule the visit, said B&G told me it would cost me for the visit. I am not sure how he had already spoken with his service people about it because he did not know I was going to call...or did he? I told him I asked for free and he refused to waive the charge even though I was in the process of ordering a new furnace worth $2000+. I also wondered why the second tech did not ask for the $40 before he left like the other did. In my experience, I have always had to pay at the time of service. So after the conversation with Josh, I emailed Chad Baumann. I told him because of a dispute with his service department, I was no longer interested in a new furnace and he did not have to follow up on the quotes he sent over. My Mom has used this company for 30+ years at her summer home on the lake. She recently prepaid over $5,000 to have a new furnace put in her attic for the upstairs. The technicians were wonderful. I realized the newly (two weeks before the job) painted ceiling below the worksite had been damaged during the install. I made an appointment to have Chad come out to look at it. When he came, he said it couldn't have been them because the area was covered by plywood, not true, then he tried to tell me it was from a water leak and there was discoloration around the damaged area on the ceiling, not true (It had just been painted). I got a flashlight to prove it up close. Then he measured and we realized that, yes, they had inadvertently done the damage. He left saying he would cover a partial amount to repair it. The next time I talked to him he offered to have his painter father in law come and repair it. I said that was fine, we only wanted the ceiling repaired. In the next sentence he said he wouldn't do anything about or toward the repair. I told him my Mom was hoping to get $100 toward the repair and we would handle it. He was very belligerent and said fine, if $100 makes this go away, I'll send her a check right away. He sent her a check for $50 a few weeks later. Even with the knowledge that there was another job (water heating unit) possibility in the near future, let alone customer service to a longtime customer and integrity, we were shocked by the unprofessional and dishonest treatment we received. read more

This company did something unusual nowadays. They made a mistake.......wait for it....and actually owned it and corrected the problem in a timely manner. Made an error in the install of wrong equipment, but then returned to repair it in a timely manner at their cost. Skill displayed was excellent and customer service was top notch. Price was fair. The combo of integrity and skill is hard to find. We recommend and will use them again. read more

The plus: the service technicians are outstanding. They were very friendly and courteous. The three different ones I had out at my house were in and out quick, and straightforward with their answers to my questions. The negative: the main office lacks communication and details. Price quotes increased: I was explained one part was bad, and its replacement was to arrive on a certain day, then received a phone call stating the part I needed (much more expensive) will be in later and would be installed days after. It would take a day or two for them (the main office I would assume) to return calls. This is what frustrated me the most. read more

Was quoted $24.50/lb of Freon over the phone. Service guy got here, "for your kind it's $99/lb". Uh, WHAT? We were NEVER told that it could be that much! When I called to talk to them about it, the receptionist was SO RUDE and then hung up on me! I will NEVER use them again!!!!! read more

I had a furnace and ac unit installed by bouman and Degroot approx in October of 2017 total cost around 6200 approx. while the installer was installing it he said he hates the furnace that he was installing. I risked my life to help get the ac unit on the deck 2nd floor was over concrete. They came without a lift to get it to the second floor so I payed fifty bucks to have a neighbor Hilo it up there. I stood in n the forks and lifted the ac unit over the deck railing. in less then a year the heat stopped working they said they wouldn't service it cuz I hadn't paid a 25 dollar bill on time. I spent a day of my life helping them get the furnace into the attic and the ac unit on the deck and these guys won't service it after they Evan admitted that the 25 dollar bill had been paid. Apparently they installed a piece of crap furnace and won't service it I had to call another conpany action heating and cooling to do there work for them. Thanks bouman and Degroot I'm sorry to hear your so broke that your going to cry over 25 bucks that wasn't payed on time. I don't recommend them to anyone. I had them fix a furnace issue and they did a good job. Had them back to evaluate nonworking a/c and it took them a few days to come out. Once they did we waited a few more days for a quote, but no one contacted us, meanwhile we are dealing with unbearable 90-plus degree weather and humidity with the temp barely dropping into the 80s at night. Contacted them a few times and they finally got back to us, but by that time we had contacted another heating and cooling company that had already come out and given us a quote, which ended up being hundreds of dollars less than Baumann & DeGroot. Then Baumann & DeGroot sent us a bill for checking the a/c even though they didn't do anything. We sent in a coupon and a check for that bill, but they said we misread the coupon and threatened to take us to collections. We paid the bill but will never use them again. read more
