BME is not your one man wrenching shop. It's a very well put together shop for European autos and and owners that expect dealer-style service. Rick is a classic gentleman who explains things well and even followed up over emails. Prices are not the cheapest but you're getting a lot of service for your dollar. That said however, my services were priced well below dealer prices. I paid a great price for my oil change, and brake fluid flush and a new car inspection to see what else I may need tackled. I'm only marking 4 due to the delay in completion by a few hours. They are a busy shop and I completely understand. I hope to keep coming here for my regular oil changes and service items. read more

Can't say enough good things about these guys! They know what they're doing and it's always a pleasure when I need to get my Mini serviced. I just bought a 2002 X5 3.0l with 140k miles, before coming here it was running and idling really bad....let's just say it's a project car.. Wow, I just have to say I am very impressed with my experience at BME.. Bill, the main client care person, was extremely helpful in explaining what needed to be done to find out was wrong with my car, made recommendations to help me save money, and the mechanic, Matt was AWESOME! I am so happy with the work they did.. Instead of spending a few thousand dollars replacing huge parts, they saved me a ton of money by doing the right tests and fixing 3 air leaks that were making my car run crappy.. It runs so cherry now, I love it! I am definitely coming back here. Military Friendly. Bought a used BMW on the island and had get multiple things done to it. I have used other BMW shops and some of the problems weren't identified correctly or never fixed. Brought my car in for a specific auto trans diagnosis and they did everything else but what I asked for, then charged me for the time they took to give me a laundry list of work that I did not consider urgent. When it came to the specific diagnosis for my transmission, I was told they could change the lifetime fluid for $600, but there would be no guarantee that it would solve anything. I understand that some problems, especially electronic are hard to detect but I would have preferred an honest disclaimer upfront instead of a no problem, we can fix it pep talk when they really did not have a good idea of where to start. I have taken my problem to other shops who said upfront that it would be difficult to diagnose and as a business owner, I appreciated their honesty. I believe the reason for taking your BMW to a specialist is because of their experience in diagnosing specific problems. Anyone can guess and change parts at your expense. While they were at first very friendly and polite, they were somewhat condescending in their explanations of their charges. I was not impressed at all by their technical knowledge. In the end, I paid them $100 for telling me what I already knew and diagnosed it myself by doing research online. read more

After a disappointing experience at the dealer, I stopped by BME when a warning light indicated I needed a new light bulb. Rick assisted me right away and identified the blown bulb, managed to access it (not that easy in a MINI), and replaced it in less than 10 minutes. By far the worst customer service I have experienced. Felt like just because I was a young woman with a BMW, they could take advantage of me and I would be clueless about everything and anything happening with my car. I only brought my car to this location because the previous owner had been bringing the car here and told me they gave excellent service and their pricing was reasonable. When I dropped off my car the night before, parking was a little difficult. The spaces are small. In the designated stalls there was a car parked horizontally which made no sense to why they would park a car taking about 3 stalls. I ended up parking my car right next to the dumpster. I filled out the drop off form but there was no envelope for me to place my key in so I had to make a hole on the drop off form so my information and key were together. Brought my car in because the engine malfunction light came on and my car was vibrating roughly. My service advisor was Rick. He was not friendly on the phone nor in person. When he called to inform me that there was a misfire in coil 1, I told him to go ahead and have that fixed and was reassured they would call my extended warranty contract and it should be covered. It did not make any sense because when I called my the warranty company I was informed that parts and labor were covered. National labor called for 1 coil is .6 and to do all coils is 1.2. Yet I was charged 1.3 for just one coil. How does that even make any sense?! Rick told me its because it takes longer for them to do it because they know BMWs better. If they know bmws well enough it should not take them that long. . Paying $300 to replace 1 coil is a complete rip off. I understand if it was multiple coils but paying that price for the cost of 1 coil is absurd. He also told me I should get the rest of my coils done because once one goes bad the others are most likely to go bad. Another recommendation he suggested I have them do is replace my spark plugs which were going to cost me about $400+. I told him I would pass for now because I was already paying $300. He gave me a lecture about how if I do not replace my spark plugs something else could go wrong with the car. Which I completely understand. I asked him if I could get an estimate of the spark plugs and the job currently being done emailed to me and he told me no that his verbal estimate is all I need. By law, the shop must give you a written estimate of the cost for repairing the vehicle before your car gets fixed. I did not sign the form waiving my rights to a written estimate. When I went to pick up my car, he didn't acknowledge me. I told him my name and his reply was "I figure it was you." What friendly customer service. Then when I asked him if I could see my invoice he told me I had to pay first before he could print it out. He then took his time putting my paper work together. I then asked him for a break down of everything with labor time and he couldn't give it to me. He said it was all on the paper. No time was placed on the paper just the cost. I asked him what the labor rate he refused to tell me until I asked him again so I could calculate the labor time myself. Got back in my car, my seats were not adjusted back to how they were. My armrest was moved and there were black marks on my headliner that were not there before. read more

There is NO stars for this place!!! My normal mechanic was off island and I failed my safety check because of a check engine light, so I had to find a mechanic on the fly for my BMW... and unfortunately I ended up taking my car here... first of all I made an appointment on Friday to have it looked at and I learned that this place don't give a shit if you make an appointment because they didn't even look at my car until Monday!! and they are closed on weekends (what mechanic is closed on Saturday???) and I had to call them to find out what was wrong they never called me the EXTREMELY rude rick "manager" said that "he didn't have time" how do you not have time to call your customer to inform them that 1 they didn't need to keep my car over the weekend because they never got to it on Friday when I had an appointment and 2 to ok work that totaled 1200 dollars!!!! I said don't touch my car any more I will pay your 106 dollar dynastic fee and go to my normal mechanic !!! the only reason I took my car there was because they said they could do it for me on Friday as long as I made my appointment ... they didn't take care of it when they said they would and when I took my car today to my normal mechanic he said it was only that I did tighten my gas cap on all the way that set the check engine light off and he told and fixed it for free!!! not 1200 dollars!!! my mechanic also said that the other laundry list of things that BME said was wrong with my BMW are not... like my engine was "leaking oil" according to rick and shit team ( my car has never leaked oil because I am ocd about my garage floor so I have never cleaned up oil so how does my car have a massive oil leak?? where does the leaking oil go if not on the ground ... ) so in short my advice is to never ever go here they are rude don't keep appointments and make up bull shit lies on things to fix on your car. Basically your worst nightmare in a mechanic the one that takes advantage and steals your money! If you go here good luck and expect a big bill for things that were never wrong with your car to begin with!! read more

The first time I took my car there we got it back and something else broke about a week later which we thought it was an alternator issue. So we take our car back. They had it for almost a month and the TWO things we took it in for, turned into a recommendation for a new A/C compressor and more motor problems. The A/C was working just fine before we brought it in! We were not getting any of the warning lights that are on now. In addition we were told it needed new motor mounts......that's funny because the first time they FIXED THE MOTOR MOUNTS! So $2500 the first time and $2200 this time (labor was $1400 of that), we are being told we need additional work done! They are terrible at communicating.....they called the first few days they had the car but, after he asked me if I was having other issues before I brought it in and I said no, he said they will figure it out and get back to me.......two weeks later, now he wants to tell me there's all kinds of other issues going on! DO NOT trust these people with your BMW! read more

7/10/15 I brought a prospective purchase in to Bavarian Motor Experts after arranging an initial inspection off of their internet site. the site says that for $99 I could receive: * Mechanical condition evaluation * Visual inspection for accident damage * Expected future maintenance costs * Estimation of car value I left the car with Rick and came back several hours later. The car was still in the same place. I figured, no big deal, maybe that spot was empty. I asked about the inspection and he said: "Oh, yea," and proceeded to go out to the car, lift the hood for a few minutes, look in the drivers area, and write the mileage down. He then took it out for about a 5 minute drive and returned. He came back in and said that I had miss-matched tires. That's it. I asked about the transmission and he said it was fine. I asked about the valves and compression and he said that it appeared ok. When I went to pay he said it was not the $99 quoted on the website but $110. period. I figured, well, ok, he's just having a bad day and he's a jerk. So be it. I let my thoroughly unpleasant experience go. I bought the car anyway. I don't drive much. I have about 300 miles on the car since that episode. Fast Forward to 10/13/16. I had a notice from BMW that I needed a airbag replaced from a recall.I went to BMW of Honolulu and they had it replaced and did a once over of the car. Turns out that it had been in an accident before I bought it. They also said that my front, right upper control arm bushing is broken and the upper strut mount is torn. I drive back and forth to Costco and a couple of other places. That's it. These problems were in place well before the 300 miles I have put on the car. Bavarian Motor works can't possibly treat all their customers as poorly as they treated me. But they treated me badly. Very badly and that is why I decided to make this effort. Watch out when you go there. Me? I will continue to go to BMW of Honolulu where they treat me very well and do what they say they're going to do. read more

This is THE PLACE to go to when your BMW needs servicing and/or repairs. Rick and his team are extremely knowledgeable and honest! They will tell you what needs to be fixed right away and what items can wait until a later date. This is in sharp contrast to the BMW of Honolulu Service Center that will tell you that you need to fix everything NOW. It was easy to make an appointment, Rick and Bill were very friendly and easy to talk to. After the initial inspection was completed, results were emailed with categories "Good", "Starting to Wear/Break", and "In Need of Repair". Over the phone, Rick explained everything clearly to me. Amazing service and super nice staff. They looked at my car to see what needed to be fixed on the bumper and helped zip tie it so I could safely drive until I came back in. And they did this all for free! They even have a lovely waiting area that's air conditioned with a variety of refreshing beverages to choose from while you wait. I originally went to the BMW dealership to replace my fuel pump and they told me I had a few other items that needed to be repaired. They told me it was all or none because they are full service. I don't know what that means, but they wouldn't just do the work that was required and the bill would be $5,600. WTF. BME is literally on the next block and changed my pump for $850. Clean and very professional but very expensive services. If you love your BMW or Mini this is the place to bring it and the only place on the island. They have the modern equipment to properly diagnose your vehicle, and that's probably the reason why they charge so much. Reason for giving them four out of five: if i would have taken my Mini to a garage like Midas for example or Jiffy Lube they would have charged me less than a hundred dollars for an oil change, tire rotation, brake inspection, and other stuff. With Bavarian Motor Experts you don't get what the cheaper options get, granted BME knows what they are doing rather than taking to those Midas guys who have no passion for BMW'S and Mini's. 2nd reason for a non-perfect score. I dropped my vehicle right before they opened at 700 in the morning. I return from work to pick it up and I find out they haven't even started on my car yet. WTF right? Business is good for them but I'm a new customer who should have been informed about this long wait so that I could have planned something rather then wait there and tell myself I could have been home already if I took the bus and just pick up my car the next day. Did I mention my tires didn't get rotated. read more

BME was recommended by Yun of O'Sung Auto, and he was "spot on"! We had an unusual problem with our BMW X5 and Chris Choe kept us updated on the progress of the diagnostic work. Finally resolved after changing a module and an actuator...like a pacemaker instead of a heart transplant! Dealer would have replaced the differential box, but not fix the real problem.!
