This is an amazing place! So many people drive right through Key Largo heading South and never get to experience places like this. The property is beautiful. Maintained so well. The flowers and flowering trees just give the place an amazing tropical feel. The rooms are updated and super clean. The staff is courteous and great to chat with. The owners, Peg and Jonathan are a delight. Peg has a food truck on property that serves scones and coffee each morning. They are incredible!! She has out 150 types of scones. Beautiful place, but I would never stay here again. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I feel people should know what to expect. There were four of us staying at the villa, and we all left disappointed. The property is beautiful, but the owner/manager's attitude toward guests is a major problem. He constantly bothered us and reprimanded us over different things, and the entire atmosphere felt uncomfortable. We were celebrating my husband's birthday. We were never told that music was completely forbidden, yet we were made to feel like even enjoying music was a problem. I completely understand respecting quiet hours and other guests, but there is a big difference between reasonable rules and making guests feel like they cannot enjoy their vacation. I was also charged $225 for supposedly smoking inside the room. I do not smoke, so I found this accusation and charge extremely unfair. The breakfast was another disappointment. Calling a pastry and poor-quality coffee an "included breakfast" is misleading, especially considering the price of the stay. The property is gorgeous, but you are paying a lot of money for a place where you don't feel comfortable. If you are looking for somewhere to relax, celebrate and actually enjoy your vacation, I would think twice before booking this place. I would not return, even for free. read more

We stayed four nights in mid June. During the week, it was super quiet with just a few other guests. On Friday more people started to arrive. It's a small family owned resort with, I believe, approximately 17 units. Jonathan welcomed us with a thorough orientation then walked us to our room and showed us around. It felt very personal and welcoming. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. The daily coffee and scones were amazing! It was fun to get up every morning and see what new flavors of scones awaited us. We started every mornings with fresh, warm scones and iced coffee on the beach. We ended every day with a glass of wine on the beach, watching the sunset over the water. They have kayaks and scuba gear available for use at no additional cost. The grounds are beautifully manicured with friendly resident squirrels and iguanas. Lots of places to wander and sit in the shade. There are many great restaurants and other accommodations just a few minutes drive away. We would definitely stay here again the next time we are in Key Largo. I can't wait to go back! read more

Fantastic place to stay in Key Largo. We had a gorgeous cottage overlooking the water. Beautifully decorated and modern, grays and marble interior. The kitchenette was so cute. The bathroom was luxurious and sparkling clean. Oriana greeted us and checked us in and she was so kind and helpful. There are kayaks available for a two hour time period. Laundry facilities on the premises. Cute little scone truck in the front that the lovely Peg runs (I think she is the owner). She is so kind and conversational, and offers guests complimentary coffee, hot cocoa and fresh scones every morning. How nice is that? She also offered me a postcard and said to feel free to write it out and the staff will mail it. It is just the little personal touches that make this place so quaint and special. The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. Love the view of the water and the relaxing beach chairs. Our room even had beach towels and the most fragrant spa products. We decided on a last minute trip to the Florida Keys, and we were lucky to snag a room for one night at the Bay Harbor Lodge. It was perfect! The owner's son, Jonathan, was super helpful and welcoming! He gave us so much information about places to eat, and places to go. (Thank you for the recommendation to stop at Robbie's! Feeding the tarpon was so much fun!) We booked the cheapest and smallest room, but it was perfect for our needs! We definitely want to come back and stay here longer. My husband and I came here from Thursday through Sunday. It was a fantastic stay. We will definitely come back. Our room was very clean and comfortable. It had a perfect view of the water. This place doesn't look like much from the road but once you drive in, you enter a lush tropical garden. There are many sitting areas where you can quietly read, or you can sit by the bay and watch the boats go by. We were lucky and were visited by five manatees upon our arrival! The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable. They appear to keep everything updated as they were remodeling several units while we were there. The owner, Peg, and her son, Jonathan, were very accommodating and eager for our feedback and suggestions. Can't forget to mention the coffee and homemade scones each morning! We were there August 2017 in the Bayside Bungalow. It's one of the pricier room options because it has its own kitchen. 4 nights for 2 people, was $1260.02. I expected a lot more luxury, careful attention to detail, and PERFECT customer service for that pricing. Upon walking in, I was the first one to use the bathroom. I lifted the toilet lid and it was used brown toilet water and a dirty toilet bowl. I know - disgusting! But I flushed it and moved on with my life. We drove from Orlando to Everglades to Key Largo, where the resort is. I'm tired, I'm moving on! The next day, was another busy day. We were really busy and went to bed around 11:30pm. I was turning down the bed and noticed for the first time, 1 of 4 of the accent pillows had a lipstick stain - NOT MINE! It was as if someone used it to blot because it was so perfectly pressed, like tissue. Meaning housekeeping doesn't clean the accent pillows between guests at all. It wasn't runny, or smeared, like it went through laundry or steam cleaning. This is Day 2 for us and the 2nd consecutive housekeeping issue, so now I am going to say something. If you follow them on Facebook, they basically POST IN ALL CAPS EVERY DAY! So I privately use FB messenger and also email them, to notify them about the housekeeping issue. My full intention was to not have a 3rd issue - because there is no time machine, for the poop water and stranger danger lipstick. I'm not going to let those 2 things ruin my life. I just wanted to say "Hey, this happened, let's not have anything else happen!" OMG..... so here comes Thing 3. So on Day 3, we are walking to our car to leave for a full day of SCUBA school, and THE OWNER yells as me IN PUBLIC for using FB messenger, email, and written communication. This is what it feels like, at least to me. Because maybe she's mad for something else. I don't know her life. But this woman is DEFINITELY yelling at me - her paying guest! HER GUEST! It's like she's mad AT ME, that I didn't tell her about the poop water on Day 1 (after basically 8 hours on the road from Orlando - Everglades - Key Largo)!!! So she's mad, I didn't jump out and walk IN THE DARK to guest services to tell them about poop water. There are no phones in our room! And she's mad AT ME, that on Day 2, I didn't jump out of bed at 11:30pm and walk IN THE DARK to guest services to tell them about stranger danger lipstick! AGAIN, there are no phones in our room! Also, as if, I'm going to tell someone, that stuff, face-to-face! If you're someone on vacation trying to avoid conflict, you're prob not going to do this face-to-face. So.... housekeeping is obviously an issue and customer service is a 0. Big 0! No exaggeration -- the owner is publicly yelling at me in the parking lot. This is a very small resort. So what she is doing to me, is very public! She is one of those people that blames YOU. $1260.02 for someone to publicly yell at me. It happened so fast that I can't verbatim remember everything. It's basically her saying she wishes we told her sooner and me saying, I wasn't going to go in the dark to guest services about a flush, and that I emailed her about the 2nd thing, and that I was telling her now to avoid a 3rd housekeeping issue. Blah blah blah forever. Eventually, she wakes up and realizes how she is publicly acting and kind of mutters, "I'm not doing this" and simply walks away. Hello, yeah -- don't do this. I said "You're making this worse." She said to me, "No, you're making this worse." Are we 5 years old? So that is that. I have no clue why it escalated to that point! All that needed to happen was to apologize for the poop water and stranger danger lipstick, and then not have there be a 3rd housekeeping issue. Other dramas: I thought it was a standalone house when I made the reservation online, but it's not. We shared a wall with guest services I think, and we could hear the beeps from the washer / laundry being done, every single day. There were also loud thumps, every single day. I don't know from what. We could also hear their phones ringing. I won't go back. read more

LAST MINUTE DIVE TRIP to the KEYS and I FOUND THIS WONDERFUL PLACE. I was working on two-week long project in Miami and had the weekend off. I scrambled to find an inexpensive place to stay for the weekend, so I could get a few scuba dives in. I have been to Key Largo many times, I wish I found Bay Harbor Lodge sooner. It is a cozy place on the bayside. The rooms where immaculately clean. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The grounds are well kept and the small beach/pier was a great place to chill out after my dives. The rooms are not big but you are not in the Keys to hang out in your room. All in all, the place is a great value, compared to other places in the Keys, you are getting twice as much for half the price. read more

We had an outstanding experience at Bay Harbor in Key Largo that far exceeded our expectations. We knew we wanted a weekend getaway in the Keys but had no idea what a relaxing, paradise we were about to encounter. Jonathan, JoJo, Eric, Lydia, and the rest of the staff were amazingly accommodating. They are friendly and bend over backwards to make sure guests are happy as can be. The grounds are well manicured and all facilities are clean. Kayaks and paddle boats are always available for a lovely ride on the bay. The homemade scones are delicious and coffee is a nice touch, but the unbelievable staff was the part that made this a resort unlike any other. Not only did they give us recommendations for eateries and places to visit in Key Largo, but they spent time talking about the other places they have lived and visited. Came to Bay Harbor with my wife and her parents. At first, I thought "Okay, it's not the nicest place ever - but charming!" Enjoyed the view from the beach, the kayaks available to take out and scones in the morning were really good. But the service and quality of the room were just horrible. Let's start with management. We did break two rules on night one without realizing it and the management got a bit salty with us for that, which I TOTALLY understand. However, it was in a completely unprofessional manner. Most places would have notified you nicely and been polite - not the group at Bay Harbor. Specifically, there's a guy there named Justin, who was so rude to my wife that she walked away crying after talking with him. I guess I was just baffled that the team there cared zero about treating people nicely and with respect. Also, there was a billing problem that he dealt with by being forceful, rather than just ringing up the room to talk or putting a billing notification under the door? Just totally unprofessional, not what would happen at any major chain or place of good reputation. The room quality at Bay Harbor was also no where near what the price commanded. And I imagine they'd probably tell you, "well that's what you pay for down here! The Keys are expensive." But trust me, it's a complete joke. Nothing was clean, and there was black mold at the bottom of the shower and in the closet. (I have pictures, but I guess I can't post them?) The mold gave me some serious respiratory irritation, which totally ruined my "vacation." I felt sick waking up every morning and could barley swallow until I had spent 6+ hours outside the room. Overall, I really would not recommend staying here. If it's your cheapest option, save up a couple hundred more bucks and find a better place. Preferably somewhere that is corporate and that has policies on how to deal with customers and doesn't have black mold. It's really a shame, I took three days off work to go on this vacation with my wife's family, and staying here made me wish I was back at home at work. I'm probably never going back to Key Largo or the Key's in general again, it left that bad of a taste in my mouth (or throat! lol). read more

The perfect quaint little escape! We booked this place for a little get away and so happy we did. After considering more expensive resorts we decided to go with Bay Harbor. The grounds are impeccable & surrounded by beautiful lush gardens. They offer a small beach, complete with chairs, kayaks and paddle boards for guests to enjoy. The room was small (we also booked the smallest room so I didn't expect anything big) clean, fridge and microwave. There are also charcoal grills to use which offers a nice break from eating out every day. Every morning they offer fresh coffee and a selection of amazing scones. It was difficult deciding what flavor to try. They changed daily and we were never disappointed! The very best part of Bay Harbor is the owner and her staff. Everyone was very welcoming and kind. No attention to detail was left behind. There was a box of chocolates to celebrate Valentine's Day, they offered Prosecco and light appetizers 1 night to watch the sunset and they made sure to make sure every guest was happy and enjoying their stay. Most despicable hotel I've ever dealt with. Period. I have an amputee (tripawd) support dog WITH documentation. I requested to bring her on my trip and was told it should be fine. I offered to send my paperwork before coming, even though to my understanding, that's not required by any law. I emailed it to them yesterday. Got a call this morning saying that I couldn't bring her with me and they were going to cancel my reservation because she's not a "service animal." I could never recommend this place to anyone. This is a wonderful little place. My wife actually liked everything about it which doesn't happen! Our room was small but that's what we wanted. The bed was clean and comfortable. The air conditioning was great though I wish it would have let me put it colder than 64; but again, that made my wife happy. The internet was rough in some spots but it still worked. The property was really nice, especially by the water. They have two short docks you can fish from. They have a small beach area. They have kayaks and a paddle wheeler which are free to guests. The staff was very friendly and polite. We arrived after they closed but they made sure we could access our room and handle the check in the next morning. Right across the street is a nice restaurant we ate at. It's nice to see the Florida Keys back on their feet after the hurricane. I'd definitely come back to this place! read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE I was supposed to come with my biking group but I had to have my knee replaced and i wasn't physically able to bike, hike or walk for a long distance yet. So, I called and email exactly 14 days (8-5-22) before I was supposed to arrive and Jonathan refused to give me my deposit ($331.88) back. He said I would have had to cancel by the Sept. 4, 2022. Mind you, it was at 8:00 am on the 5th when I called. I gave him every opportunity to do the right thing, but he wouldn't even consider working on some kind of compromise! Nothing! This is just HORRIBLE P.R. You can bet I will tell everyone I know about the terrible service I received and to find another hotel. read more

This was such a find in Key Largo! We had a cottage just steps away from the bay. The kayaking and paddle boarding were a huge bonus! Pegs scones were delicious! Having a kitchen was a huge bonus for our family! Johnathon, the son was so kind and friendly and really made our stay very welcoming and relaxed. He even saved us scones, as a couple days of our stay we had to leave early for scuba diving with our kids. We just stayed here again for the second time, this time in Room #9. A friend was celebrating a milestone birthday, and she wanted to celebrate it in Key Largo. We recommended Bay Harbor based on our last experience, and again, they did not disappoint. This time we didn't stay in the cottages, but stayed in the rooms by the pool instead. My husband and I were in Room #9, the birthday girl and her husband where in Room #8, and our other couple were directly above us in Room #16. Of those three rooms, Room #16 is MUCH larger. It is twice the size of Rooms #8 and #9 and runs the length of those two rooms. All three rooms were good for a 2-night stay. Cleanliness is a prime requirement for all of us, and we appreciated how clean our rooms were, but even more we appreciated some of the little touches like the nice, beachy tile in the bathroom and the beachy linens. Something to note: Room #9 isn't quite as updated as the others. Our television was super tiny, like a computer screen, our microwave sat on a counter taking up valuable space, and the bathroom sink is a pedestal style with no counter space available. I understand they are in the process of updating all of the rooms, and Room #9 will be updated soon. Room #16 has two queen beds, both with memory foam mattresses! This visit we used the kayaks and paddle boards! What a PLUS that these are FREE to use! Each person can take a water toy for a maximum of 2 hours. When you're done with one toy, you can check out another. We had a great time in the warm water, but unfortunately didn't get to see any wildlife on this trip. The pool area is well-maintained and was a nice refresher after spending time in the bay all day. No trip to Bay Harbor Lodge is complete without the homemade scones provided each morning. If you get there before 9am, there's a good chance your scones will still be warm! This was another fantastic stay at Bay Harbor Lodge. I really see no reason to stay anywhere else in Key Largo. read more

Awesome Morning Scones with Coffee, We stayed in a waterfront cottage, #3 and we're perfectly in love with the place and location. The unit was immaculately clean, and the grounds impeccably well kept. Etinne keeps the numerous plants and trees so well maintained and he even got us fresh coconuts. We Kayaked (free and available for guests, double kayaks, single kayaks, paddleboards and paddle boat too) and Snorkeled right off the dock. Helpful Hans Hints: 1. Buy some bait shrimp and dice them up and snorkel in front of the boat beach right past the dock and throw the diced shrimp ahead of you in the water and enjoy the show. 2. Buy some watermelon to eat and feed the large iguanas. 3. The Curly tail lizards welcome any Scone crumbs you may drop, just don't feed the lizards the Scones EAT THEM!! (the Scones that is:), The Scones are for human consumption only and the're delicious! 4. Go on the Evening Sunset Snorkel trip on the Reef Roamer (Capt Terry's company) and his first mate Marcus. Remarkable Adventure and they have a Catamaran Sail Boat so the Sail is super easy to spot in the water and it's smooth. They may have a family line (a rope with floats spaced) just ask them, keeps your family of 4 together, use the noodles under your arms too and bring your own dry snorkels if you have them (easy to pack, or buy on Amazon!) 5. Buy your fresh fish on your way into Key Largo, better and less expensive variety I grilled Lobster and used garlic butter, salt and pepper, had a Caesar Salad and some Cooked Smoked Gouda Cheese Mac made fresh at the Publix supermarket down the road to which I added a pound of cooked shrimp warmed up in Garlic butter. Mmmmm Also, go to the docks at 3PM and wait for the fishermen to come in and BUY FROM THEM DIRECTLY!! Ask a local! 6. Bring bug spray (this is the KEYS, right?) and we used wristbands and had no problems. 7. Don't bring Beach Towels, they have them 8. Do tip the Housekeepers and the Groundskeeper, show some love people! Bay Harbor has beautiful thatched roof patios and a nice waterfront lounge area to watch sunsets. The front desk staff and the housekeeping made staying there a joy that written words cannot express. This place would be perfect for a family reunion, just remember that people come here for peace and quiet, raised voices, arguments and negativity need NOT be present. The owner, Peg, is a sweet thoughtful soul with a keen eye for detail, just don't try to make life difficult for them (raising your voice, being loud, yelling, screaming, having guests over to party etc etc) or they will push back (and rightfully so!!). The staff takes particular pride in their location as a sanctuary, it's not a party place. Cool? They've got a great little temperature controlled salt water pool that is also a VERY nice touch. Love the place and will be back, hopefully. Life is short. I plan on bringing REAL Andouille sausage next time and buying a pot at the Salvation Army there and cooking a Gumbo OUTSIDE on a hot plate for my fellow guests. As with anywhere don't boil seafood, cook curry, smoke cigs or burn food in the units! That's just disrespectful to the next guest. read more

But they do have kayaks and paddle boards, fishing and a pool ! Rooms were very clean and stocked with kitchen supplies. The complimentary breakfast is simple and delicious. We were visiting from Texas and my family from Florida who were camping on the Atlantic side came over with their kayak so we could all go out on the gulf with the kayaks. The management said no visitors while at the same time we saw a boat pull up to the dock and they were not staying here, but they were friends of the manager so he was hanging out with them throughout the day. Absolutely amazing little gem! The property is beautiful, perfectly landscaped with bromeliads, orchids etc. "Ms Pegs Scones" offers complimentary morning coffee, tea & delicious, freshly baked assorted treats that are way superior to the average Starbucks scone! There is Kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling all included in the stay. We saw manatee and sting ray in the clear blue waters while paddle boarding. (Go during high tide) The staff were friendly and accommodating. The room was clean, spacious, included a kitchen and dining area plus a balcony. The whole family enjoyed the stay! read more

This was our first time in the Keys, so...first impressions. We had a wonderful 3 night stay at the Bay Harbor Lodge. The well-maintained grounds are absolutely beautiful; tropical, peaceful and spacious with lots of chairs and a tiki hut for perfect sunset viewing. There is no swimming beach, but there are kayaks and an excellent pool. Our room was just perfect for a couple, just steps from the ocean. Fresh scones and coffee or tea for breakfast. Can't wait to go back! read more

My wife and I stayed here after our wedding. It was wonderful. We just wanted a place to relax and decompress after all the planning that went in to the wedding and Bay Harbor Lodge was perfect. It was the off season so there were only a few other guests but they kept the place immaculate and every single staff member was super helpful and friendly. They were incredibly responsive and accommodating. Lots of bonus amenities too. Homemade scones in the morning and a paddle boat, kayaks, and paddles boards all free to use. We used the grill several nights and enjoyed cooking out right by the water. Highly recommended. Just a heads up though, the road that runs in front of Bay Harbor is one way. So don't turn left on your way out :) read more

My wife and I stayed at the Bay Harbor Lodge this past weekend. Beautiful place. Loved the room, very comfortable. The grounds are beautiful, like a small resort. Saw 2 beautiful sunsets over the bay. They have coffee and "Peg's homemade scones " for breakfast each morning. DELICIOUS. Will definitely stay here next time we are in the area. read more
