I called on Wednesday to make an appointment for Thursday for an oil change for my 2012 Toyota Corolla. It was a super efficient process and I was able to come pick up my car exactly on time. They mentioned my tires were really worn down and I was just about to go on a really long trip, so I took them up on their suggestion to get two new tires. They arrived in less than 24 hours and I was able to get my tires changed that Friday morning before my trip! I hydroplaned a few years ago due to worn out tires in the rain and it was a pretty traumatic experience. I appreciate that they let me know my tire condition and were so communicative! The problem with these fancy cars is that it takes any bit of car maintenance knowledge away from the driver. I can't tell if I have a flat tire, I don't get anything checked, I can't even figure out how to pop my hood. Luckily my car is well suited for my incompetence ... that's why I've named him Sven ... It's like a hot sexy european man servant that provides directions and tells me when I need to do stuff. I also recently discovered that he can keep my sandwich cool in the glove compartment. Anyway, as I'm barreling 90 down the freeway, my music stops, the car beeps and red flashes at me -- "CHECK TIRE PRESSURE". So with a leaky tire (cause it sure didn't *look* flat) I brought my car here per the recommendation of the manfriend. We called ahead by 30 minutes and they were able to take care of stuff while we had lunch just down the street. While we dined, my tire was patched up for $12.00. It was fast and efficient. I also asked for some quotes on other things (Service B and new rear tires since they are bald) - and I was called back 50 minutes later with a detailed message. I've been calling around getting quotes for the Service B and their rates were competitive. Hopefully I won't need to be back for any emergencies, but if I need anything done, I'd definitely trust bringing Sven here again. read more

This place does a phenomenal job. After having been to more than half a dozen shops trying to find my go-to place, this shop has been the most honest and reliable place I've been to so far. They tell it like it is, and I know they won't try to tell you to do something that you won't need. On my old Honda Accord, I've had oil changes, gotten a blown head gasket fixed, and recently put on shocks and struts. I know I'll keep coming back! Beware of fraudulent and false reviews! These people are not 5 Stars! I went here for a repair on my civic last month. Not only were they extremely rude and unhelpful, my car sat there all day while the 'inspection' they conducted only took 5 minutes. I asked them when I dropped it off if they would call me and they said yes; I called them when it was close to their closing time and they said they would call when it was ready. It was not until my boyfriend called at closing they said it has been ready for awhile! I was so irritated because I sat at home all day waiting for my car to be ready. So we go there to pick it up and they tell me they would call me when the part was ready but I still have not received a call. I would NEVER recommend these guys to anyone. read more

I don't know what kind of incredibly low expectations other reviewers have for auto repair, my experience was an absolute joke. I called on Friday, said my Mazda truck needed an oil change and explained that there was an oil leak somewhere. I was quoted $35 for an oil change and told to come in first thing Monday morning. I show up Monday morning at 8:30, there is no one there. No sign indicating the business hours, they have no website to indicate the business hours and no one answers the phone. Finally someone shows up at 9. I again explain about the oil leak, give my cell phone number and ask for a call when they identify the problem. I wait until 2:30, no one has called, it takes me 3 tries before I can get someone to answer the phone, I'm told the car is done. When I come in, I'm told the problem was the oil filter from the previous oil change (done by the dealer) had not been put on tightly enough and that was the source of the oil leak. Really insulting that I looked stupid enough to believe that an OEM oil filter suddenly worked it's way loose and started leaking 7 months after it was installed. So I grudgingly agree to pay for the oil change, the price of which is now $40, not the $35 that I was quoted on Friday. And oil change included a generic filter that I suspect will give me problems. And yes, the oil leak is still there. I could have gone to the dealer for $40 they would have changed the oil (with an OEM filter), rotated the tires, filled the fluids and identified the source of the leak. Thought I would give these guys a chance but they failed miserably. To summarize: * No communication * No one shows up until 9 * Can't identify the source of a simple oil leak * Bait and switch on cost of service read more

You know, my car broke down in San Francisco and my basic AAA membership would not let me tow it to Oakland for less than $14 for each additional mile over 5. If they would have, I would have towed it to the greatest mechanic in Oakland (not that I have tried them all, but this place is great). I'm sorry Julianne had such a bad experience because this place is definitely 5 stars. I've taken my car there three times in the past year and the committment to excellence has been nothing short of great. For example, I went there one day thinking that there was something wrong with my brakes ... but ... they were honest enough to tell me that there was nothing wrong with them, they just needed a little tightening, so they just changed my oil as I asked and didn't charge me for looking at my brakes. I'm from Ohio and I miss having a neighborhood mechanic ... you know, the guy up the street who isn't certified but has been working on cars for 20 years ... I think Bay Motorsport is the closest I can get to that experience, because they are in my neighborhood and their honest. You should definitely feel good about having your car in their hands. My ac was broken, i kept on using the refill kit but it never worked for me, I figured that i had to replace an o-ring because after several bottles there was no improvement. So my brother tells me about this place. I have to tell you these guys were really nice and friendly, They gave me a price on how much it will cost before even finding out what's the problem. Turns out i had a small l crack on my condenser, They replace the condenser and empty the old stuff in my car and refilled it with the new ac. The ac works like a brand new car!!! it was supper cool and perfect for the warm weathers. These guys are the best and no bs work from them. In fact, I'm baffled that someone would even rate them less than 5 stars (ie, the previous Yelp'er review). Last night my car broke down. Called AAA at 4pm, they promised to have a tow at 445pm, got 2 delay calls from AAA, and the tow truck finally got there at 545pm. Although I promised Ed to have my car at his shop by 530pm, he stayed open to wait for me. Not only did he stick around (to wait), he had his mechanic stay over time to fix my car. I finally left his shop at 8pm. THIS IS QUALITY SERVICE, ladies and gents. I WOULD recommend Ed and Peter to anyone and everyone. Keep up the great work guys!!! read more

When you grow up in one place your whole life, you don't give a second thought to who your dentist, doctor, lawyer, and mechanic are. Usually these people have been vetted by family or friends of the family over many years. When you move and you don't know who to trust, who do you turn to...Yelp!! It beats picking random names out of the phonebook (yes they still make those although I think they're mostly used to heat homes). So that is where I found Bay Motorsport and since I have been going to them over the past year or so I have never been disappointed. I've found Ed to be honest, reliable, and affordable. I was looking at a car on Craigslist and asked the owner to meet me down there so that I could have Ed look at it. Even though they were clearly busy. He still took about 20-25 minutes to check it out. At the end I asked if I could give him something for his time. He told me not to worry about it, but that it would be needing a new timing belt at some point. Ed told me it drove well, and that was all I needed to hear. I've taken my car in several times and simply asked Ed to do whatever needed to get done. He's always told me what needed to get done in the near future, what didn't need to get done (even though I asked) like changing the oil or tires. I can't give him enough thanks. The service is great and the people are always friendly. They even have nice friendly customers that come in! I first stumbled upon this place as the secondary option to the Oil Change 300 (I know, I know I should have been turned off by the name but that was the nearest oil change shop near my house and I was lazy). Good this I chose to take my business elsewhere after the technician tried to be all shady with me and say a synthetic oil change for my 4 cylinder IS250 would cost me $98. I was like Pshhhh... NO. The Lexus dealership only charges me about $85 + a squeaky clean car wash. Ed was really nice, they were really swamp when I first pulled into the shop gave me an honest answer for time estimate of when they would be free to do my oil change. I asked him where else would I be able to change my oil around here since I was unfamiliar with the area. He told me Tim's Auto down the street. But my senses told me he was a nice honest guy, so I opt to stick around for the estimated 45 mins. I came back and this guy named Ray helped me change my oil. Really nice and knowledgeable dude. He didn't try to up sell me or anything. He even helped me check all the fluids and tire pressure. He even told me my brake pads are low in the rare tires and I have about 2 months left on them and to bring them back in 2 months. I asked him if it would make more sense to do it now (just to get it over with cuz I'm lazy) and he told me that it still has some life in them. Having said that, it shows that he just didn't want to collect my $$$ and was actually looking out for me. Nice guy. I took my 2001 Honda Civic for regular maintenacne and repairs to Ed at Bay Motor Sport for over 6 years. Reliable, dependable and affordable..the best mechanic I've every had. I've had numerous emergencies and he ALWAYS squeezes me in without charging me extra. My car finally died (which he said it would) and now I have a 2013 Honda Civic which I'm taking to him tomorrow for a regular oil change...his price is at least $10 cheaper than any other place i've found. They knew exactly what the issue was (the window regulator), and it was really simple to drop it off, get it done and with a price that was reasonable and fair. I usually hate bringing my car in anywhere because I always feel like as a woman I'm being taken for a ride when I go to a mechanic, but they were super fair and easy to work with. My turn signal light was out and my coolant was low and they changed the light and added more fluid (and explained to me what to look for next time) without charging me any more than the original quoted price and sent me on my way. I really appreciate when a business gives you an accurate measure of how long a service will take. Price was $45 which is reasonable for the area. He was also able to tell me why my check engine light was on, which I didn't even inquire about which I appreciated. BONUS: the little pup is super cute and friendly.
