I had a great experience at Bay Muffler. I already knew what the problem was, just needed a new exhaust hanger welded. The guy doesn't answer the telephone very often as he is shorthanded, so I drove in to set an appointment. He got me in the next day, and my appointment only took 15 minutes. If you need an appointment, just make a trip to talk in person, depending on schedule, he might be able to talk you as a walk-in. I definitely recommend this shop for work. read more

I incredibly rarely give negative reviews. The guy who "helped" me out was incompetent, rude and apparently had an exceptionally fragile ego. I scheduled an appointment on the 7th for a catback exhaust system install, and when I arrived, he asked me my thoughts and opinions on what could/should be done for install. He expressed doubts that the bolt-on system was in fact bolt on, and when I simply said "my guess is it'll fit correctly", he threw a tantrum and told me to get out. His words, not mine: "I have never seen a system that fits correctly. We're done. Bye bye". He finally pulled my car out, left it in neutral and did not engage the parking brake, causing it to almost roll out of their lot. Very out of the blue, incredibly frustrating and disappointing to have prepped for this to have it canceled for no reason whatsoever. Do not come here if you know anything about cars, you may threaten the mechanics ego and have him cancel on you. 0/10 stars read more

WOW, just WOW! My Toyota RAV4 lost a bracket off of the catalytic converter. This happened at 4 o'clock in Palo Alto and I was on my way home to Marin... When I showed up at Bay Muffler, I didn't know if my car was save to drive since it was super noisy. The guy (Jerry Garcia lookalike!) could not have been more helpful and kind. The first place I stopped said they could only replace the entire converter and they would have to order it ($$$$) but then referred me to Bay Muffler and he took care of me. Welding repair and I was back on the road by 5:30 pm! Total cost $150. What a great experience and oh yeah, the place is a trip - straight from the sixties. Very grateful. Thank you! read more

When Matt from Sunnyvale Foreign Car Service diagnosed the detonation sounds my car was making as a shot catalytic converter and could not find an OEM one through his sources. Matt sent me to Bay Muffler. The first time trying to find the shop I drove past it and to the parking for Bar Supply company next door. I met Cory and he came over and said he could order the part and have it the NEXT DAY! I came back the next day and sure enough they had the part waiting for me and took out the old catalytic converter which they verified was completely worn out and installed a generic one in my car in about 20 minutes time. Chris and Bay Muffler came highly recommended to me on some Audi forums I trust so I went there to get some downpipes installed on my Audi S4. Decided to drive down from the city, leave my car and take the train back to the city to go to work because of the rave reviews I'd gotten (car enthusiasts do strange things). The $400 estimate turned into $700 after they ran into some issues getting some studs out. OK. Unforeseen circumstances. I can live with that. But somehow they managed to make my exhuast tips contact my rear bumper and the exhaust ended up hanging really, really low even though I asked that they try and get it tucked up under the car as well as possible. I was in a hurry so just grabbed the car and went on my business, but then took a closer look after I got home. I called them up and he said they would make things right so I brought my car back for some adjustments to their original work because it wasn't as I asked. They billed me another couple hundred for this "adjustment". I didn't feel like arguing so just paid the bill and made a mental note to not come back or recommend this place to anyone. All in all, not that impressed with the work that was done. On the plus side, a dent appeared on my front fender while in their care which they took care of no problem, so +1 star for taking responsibility otherwise it'd be a 2 star review. read more

This is probably my third time getting my exhaust serviced by them (I'm lowered). I love the warm welcome from Chris and Cory. I appreciate the classic cars and all the old parts that each have it's part in telling the story of the shop (it's like a museum). Awesome speedy service with top notch welds! The mounts for my exhaust on my 95 M3 snapped so I brought my car in. Cory took care of me and my car that day. He explained to me the options I had and went to work right away after I decided. I was out the door in about 30 minutes. It is so difficult to find a shop working so well. I mentally prepared myself to spend a thousand dollars minimum, while the guy there fixed my issue for just 125. He also checked my wheels for free, he said he does not fix them anymore, but he diagnosed the issue and gave recommendations. Again, for free. I would give 6 stars if I could. After a bad muffler/resonator installation job from another local business, I asked my long time mechanic if he had a recommendation for a good muffler shop? My mechanic recommended Bay Muffler and I am so happy that I took his advice! After making an appointment over the phone, I drove my car to Bay Muffler. Chris and I discussed the exhaust system that I wanted. Chris had to order a glass pack muffler, as he didn't have the correct part in stock. He called the next day to say the muffler had arrived, but we postponed the install for a couple of days because it was raining so hard at the time! On the day of the muffler install, Chris removed all of the previous shop's woeful-work and formed new tubing to install the muffler. Chris also installed the resonator that I had brought to his shop. I drove my car for a few days and felt that the exhaust tone was still too loud. I called Bay Muffler and Cory answered the phone. He told me to bring my car in. Cory welded an additional glass pack muffler into the system. The exhaust tone is now perfect and will no longer attract any unwanted attention! My car is 46-years old. Bay Muffler is the 4th muffler shop that I have patronized over the years of owning the car. Chris installed the best looking exhaust system that my car has ever had! The bends in the tubing are perfect and not squashed in. Chris takes pride in his workmanship! He is friendly and courteous. read more

Needed to get a new muffler for my 86 Acura so I called Bay Muffler in the morning and Cory said they could take care of it after lunch. I had a little trouble finding their shop approaching from the south: they're on the right side of the building facing the street. Cory swapped out the muffler in less than 30 minutes (maybe 20?) as I watched and checked to make sure the resonator didn't have a hole in it. The new muffler was so much quieter! My husband stopped in during his lunch hour (2/23/2010) to have a minor exhaust issue looked at. He stepped into the "front office" and found a man, lounging on a couch talking on the phone. The man motioned for him to come in and wait. There was another customer also waiting to speak to the man. After 5 minutes of listening to the man BS with an obvious friend on the phone, while rudely ignoring 2 customers -- my husband gave up in disgust. Bay Muffler was amazing. My mother's catalytic converter was stolen off her Honda. We took it to the Honda dealership, they were great but quoted over $4k for a OEM catalytic converters but did not have any in stock and the back order date was completely unknown/months. I contacted Bay Muffler and they offered us an after market part that could be ordered and installed in two days at 1/3 the price. The also recommended adding steel rods to slow the thieves down if they tried to steal it again. Since my mother was out of town we were struggling to get the car towed from Honda to Bay Muffler. The team at Bay Muffler offered to handle the logistics for us, and the car was ready on time as promised and quoted. They even walked my mom through how to get reimbursed by her insurance company... a week later my mom had her money back from Allstate.
