i had a good size problem with my exhaust (intermediate pipe with resonator & hangers) system on my car that made it borderline to keep as it is a money pit.. i brought it over a week ago & speaking with Dan i learned that 3 within this group had each (including Dan) worked for an extensive amount of years up to and over a decade worth with meineke & left to be at Bay State Muffler. they are: honest professional attitude start to finish upfront with issue,potential more issue because rust so bad&cost... they all work hard & as a team(unity) they double check their work&leave the ego at the door as i saw a more experienced(boss) asked to review the whole area making 100% sure... getting the car in on time to the time i was slotted yesterday when i committed for work done 1hr 10min was the window of time of vehicle entering and exit Very happy with the work done, their Experience & especially Happy with their more than fair price... Bay State Muffler also retrofits(modify exhaust which is not available)an older man around me while i was waiting who had a 2003 Toyota 130k miles and literally this is the 1st thing that has gone wrong with his car and its inspection month for him and said the exhaust system is one whole piece which MIDAS (where he was prior) strongly suggested and was SENT to Bay State Muffler before anything and any work done which the cost was a minimum $1400. Bay State Muffler spoke & walked him through exactly what they did with me the old man accepted as they cut the bad area OUT and welded on the new piece in and i literally heard what he had saved the old man which was well over $1000 I would and will suggest Bay State Muffler to everyone and anyone i come across. you can price around if you wish but you will be wasting your time & energy because there is no need to look anywhere else with this company. read more

Outstanding!!! Bay State Muffler was recommended to me by another shop who told me, "Bay State Muffler is the best at what they do. You want to go to them." I had an appointment on a Friday afternoon at 2pm. The gentleman at the front desk, Mr. Bob, called me to say he was running a half hour behind schedule and wanted to catch me before I left home so I wouldn't have to wait longer than necessary at the shop. Then he asked what town I was coming from and when I told him he said, "Wait a minute, you'll be waiting in Friday afternoon traffic on Rt. 1. That will be aggravating for you. Can you come Saturday morning at 10:30am instead so you will avoid all that traffic?" This act alone was priceless, my friends!!! I arrived at Bay State Muffler on Saturday morning, they took my 1994 Jeep Wrangler right away. They, Dan and Mr. Bob, brought me into the bay with a flashlight under my Jeep and pointed out exactly what was wrong, how they were going to fix it and how much it was going to cost. They began work immediately and didn't care that they were only open until 12 noon on Saturdays and that my job wouldn't be finished until at least 12:30pm. Then when the work was finished they brought me back into the bay and with the flashlight showed me all the repairs and replacements that were made. They were careful, considerate, skillful professionals in addition to being exceptional gentlemen as well! I just cannot say enough nice things about them! You truly want to see these guys and save yourself a lot of money while getting high quality work with INTEGRITY!! Lou's Custom Exhaust in Peabody, Ma is now called Bay State Muffler. Same address, same staff with Ken at the helm and his son Dave (excellent father/son team) and a great front desk person Ron who will talk with you on the phone and take you into the shop when you arrive and show you your car's problem spots and explain exactly what needs to be done and the cost. It's that simple and the cost is VERY REASONABLE. Most important, Baystate Muffler is a business with amazing integrity because of the leadership team, and that's so important these days. My gas station recommended any of the Lou's and I went on-line and read lots of reviews and picked this one because of the positive reviews. Some weren't as positive as others. I got an estimate to fix my loud exhaust because my inspection sticker was on hold and many businesses will just tell you to replace the entire system! At Baystate they cut into the exhaust and welded two parts and replaced four small brace clips for $165, including labor! I am a very happy customer! You are CRAZY if you do not go to Bay State Muffler for any automotive exhaust repairs. These guys are GREAT. I wish I could give them 10 stars. They made every effort to save parts they can, and configure a nice solid system that will last. . I know cars; been in, on, under and around them for over 50 years. Honda 2010 CR-V, that I completely love and they fixed it perfect. Cost was MUCH less than expected, likely half (or more) what I would have paid with a 'pick-up and price-up parts' from any other mechanic shop. I was considering replacing the car but now no need! They put the car up, looked it over, 15 minutes later showed me what and why. We able to do the work right away and 90 minutes later job well done. Estimated price was spot on as stated. I did have to wait a couple days as they are booked solid - as any great repair shop would be. But they were ready when I showed up for the appointment. The only thing I don't like is they only do exhaust systems; no other mechanical work. I would take my car there for everything without a second thought. The exhaust system on my 2005 Toyota Corolla formed a leak the other day, making it very loud. I researched online and found that it is common for sufficient rusting to occur on the pipe adjacent to the flange close to the front of the muffler on this model car to cause such a leak. I did further research on Yelp and found Bay State Muffler. Many of the reviews explained that people had gotten repairs to their existing exhaust systems, rather than being required to replace their entire exhaust systems. I arrived at Bay State Muffler this morning at 8:10 AM and told them about my problem. They put my car on the lift and confirmed what I had read online that the pipe had rusted adjacent to the flange. They were happy to repair the leak, which they did for a very reasonable fee. They cut out the flange and the rusted area of the pipe and welded a new section of pipe to reestablish the connection. I was out of there by 8:50 AM. I am very appreciative that they did not try to sell me something that I did not need and were able to repair my exhaust system promptly and inexpensively. read more

One of the things I dread about going to a mechanic is having unneeded work recommended and/or forced on me; I'm sure almost everyone has experienced that. These guys are so far from shady, I thought I was in some sort of parallel universe, where you can actually like your mechanics and they won't rip you off. I had a rattle, and I thought I needed major work. Bob took me under the car, said the heat shied was rattling, but everything else was fine, and nothing else was needed. Quick repair was done for VERY short money, and I was on my way. If my muffler fell off in Los Angeles, I would drive back to Bay State, trailing sparks, just to have these guys work on my car.. No bad vibes, just honest evaluation and fair pricing. I'm even considering letting these guys do my colonoscopy when it is due (my tailpipe! see what I did there?!). All kidding aside, if you can get your car here, you cannot go wrong. I recently hit a pothole hard knocking out the mounting support for the tail end of my exhaust leaving my muffler practically dragging on the ground. My exhaust needed to be fixed fast but I've had terrible luck with local mechanics in Malden, over charged, shoddy work, general BS. So I had no clue where I was going to get my car fixed. I had some work done on my truck at Bay State a few years. I write this review in retrospect, being that the service was awesome. I travel and am in the Army, so I have used many auto services along the way for various repairs and services. However, Bay State stands out in my mind to this day. They put a new exhaust on (cat back) and charged me $250. Everyone else was quoting like $500-800. One guy in Danvers had the the nerve to quote close to $1000. I was in Seminary then, also grew up in an auto shop; most of family to this day are mechanics. So I know what they true cost is on the parts and labor. They were quick, I could watch them work on my truck, and charged me a legit price. To this day I have yet to have a problem with that exhaust, still running great. I brought my 2013 Honda CR-V in with 105,000 miles today on the recommendation of Honda North. I had my CR-V serviced earlier this morning and one of the issues I asked them to look at was some noise I had begun to notice in my exhaust. They said it needed some gasket replacements and other work when putting it back together. They referred me to Bay State Muffler who they say could do it quicker and better than the dealer. After leaving I drove down to Bay State to schedule an evaluation and estimate. Within five minutes they had it up on a lift and evaluated the issue, showed me the problems and said they could do it while I waited. I waited less than the two hours they estimated and the job was complete and the Honda was quiet again. Warrantees on the work were included. At the recommendation of the Service Dept at Herb Chambers Jeep, my Jeep Commander needed a new muffler and recently made an appointment. They confirmed that diagnosis and provided me with a quote and offered to do it right on the spot. I opted to order a new stainless steel cat-back exhaust instead which I ordered from a third party, it was delivered to me and I then made a followup install appointment. At install, it took about an hour and I could see and interact during the installation process as they had a couple of questions which I appreciated them asking! Upon completion, the new exhaust was on and fully installed. It sounded and looked great and I am very pleased with the service I received here. Have to start off by saying these guys are the absolute best! I had an issue with my o.e.m muffler that they installed last year. The muffler was apparently defective (visually rotted prematurely) so I called Baystate and spoke to Dave early this morning, said to bring it on down right away. Dave took a look and explained about the defective part, nuff said. They put it right up on the lift, cut it out, installed a new one, and done, all in 30-35 mins - no questions and no charge, since they stand by their work. Its rare to find a business anymore, especially in the auto repair industry, that takes care of its clients and treats them honestly and fairly like Baystate. For those who live in the Boston/Cambridge area, I was referred here by Murph of Car Zone, which you already know is a good sign. Murph wouldn't send you to a place he didn't vouch for, and his word is as good as gold as far as I'm concerned. The folks at Bay State Muffler were equally straightforward, honest, quick, and a good bargain. Considering the replacement to my exhaust system that needed to be made, I was very happily surprised with what I considered to be a highly reasonably price tag and a lightning quick turnaround time (about a half hour). I actually traveled about 40 minutes from home to visit these guys on the word of my regular mechanic, and I would certainly do so again if I ever have an exhaust or muffler issue in the future. read more

My Dad recommended I go here after I got an estimate from my regular garage to fix my loud exhaust. I was told from my regular garage that it would cost about $600. I called Bay State Muffler and asked if I could get it checked out to see if I needed everything replaced. I came in today (Saturday!!) to see what it needed. They pulled my car up on the lift and told me all I need is a new muffler and the rest of my exhaust looked great. He told me it would be $150 I was thrilled. I was thinking that it was going to be $150 plus labor... Nope! It was including labor! I am an very happy customer! Called, got Ron on the phone, Made an appointment to stop by and get an estimate on an exhaust leak. First I was impressed on how clean and neat his shop was, Being I work repairing jewelry and I keep my shop as clean and neat as possible. Second he had my infinity G37 coupe on the lift and ready to be looked at in less than ten minutes. Showed me what I needed and gave me a reasonable quote. Never tried to push extra work on me though its a dual exhaust and one flex pipe was needed. I liked the price so had both flex pipes replaced same day. I inspected the work and Im really happy. The exhaust on my 2005 Matrix was very loud late last week. After searching for a shop to fix the issue, I came across Bay State. Some of the reviews for the local Midas and Mieneke were troubling. I called and made an appointment for Saturday at 8.00 am. The counter person was very nice and helpful. They put my vehicle up on the lift, examined the exhaust system, called me into the garage and explained a clamp had rotted and they could cut and replace that part of the system The whole process took less than an hour and I was very pleased with the service, price and honesty!! We had an exhaust leak in our 2004 Toyota Sienna and took it to Bay State Muffler in Peabody. From the minute we called to see if they could take a look at it we got top notch service. We no sooner walked in the door at Bay State and they put our van up on a lift and diagnosed the problem. Fifteen minutes and $150 later we were out the door and back on the road. We will definitely go back to Bay State with any future exhaust issues and will highly recommend them to anyone looking to have their exhaust system repaired.. These guys were amazing-so friendly and accommodating. I zoomed over a pothole and snapped part of an exhaust pipe; my right muffler was hanging on for dear life. Would've been about 2000 for my mechanic to replace, so he recommended these guys for a welding fix instead. I called ahead and was able to be seen the next morning. They repaired it (plus the other side, which had rotted out, as they were kind enough to show me while the car was on the lift) for about 175. Was on my way home in an hour. This was a bit of a hike from where I live, but totally worth it. Plus there's a pretty tasty bagel place next door. read more
