Gabe did a fantastic job of fixing my 5 year old GE Cafe series gas stove. On the simmer setting, it started emitting a scary amount of CO2. PG&E said it was usable on medium and high settings and also that it needed to be repaired but not replaced. Gabe diagnosed it and repaired quickly and at a fair price. I had one burner on my Russell range cooktop that did not light for 8 months. I ignored it and I just used a BBQ lighter to substitute for the spark igniter because parts were not available anymore and electricians I called said they couldn't help. When a second burner wouldn't light without help, I asked reliable parts onAshby in Berkeley for a fix it person for out of date appliances. They gave me a card for Bay stoves - 510-545-2513. I called and Gabe answered. I explained my problem, knowing that the parts for Russell range are no longer available since they long ago went out of business. I have a built in cooktop surrounded by a long granite counter installed in a very large kitchen remodeling done in 1996. I knew that buying a new cooktop would involve remodeling again because of the new sizes of cooktops and replacing the granite which wouldn't match all the existing kitchen granite. Gabe said he would come to look and possibly fix the problem. He came the next day in the morning and 5 hours later, he had rebuilt the entire cooktop with parts he carries in his truck. Gabe took the whole cooktop out of its hole and replaced every little piece of parts that were bad including the gas lines to the burners. It turned out that some of the wires and the insulated box they were attached to had melted around the connections over the past 28 years. The price was fair, no where near the cost of a new remodel. I now have my 6 burner cooktop back in working shape for the next 28 years. Yes he repairs modern stoves too, and mine is only three years old. Brilliant problem solving skills and expertise since he solely focuses on stoves, not all appliances. I had a different repair person come out the week before and assumed it was the igniter, moved it around, said "the stove is probably too new for there to be a part available." Plus I paid a $65 fee, lost for nothing. Not Gabe! He said that guy actually was not helping things by moving the igniter over. Rather, it was the mix of gas and air that needed to be adjusted. And then he told me how my stove worked, what to do if it automatically shut down again, a feature when it fills with too much gas as a result of not lighting. How using the convection option to heat up the oven quickens the process, then turn off that button when heated. Among other things. He set the oven shelves on thick cloths on our floor, used knee pads. I didn't have to be asked to wear a mask, had one on. This is the type of repairman, this is the type of relationship I'm looking for. Such a reward today finding him! He is a one man operation. And yes, I called Friedmans, where we got our stove and who recommended the other guy from last week and told them about him, and then recommended Gabe of Bay Stoves. read more

Gabe is AMAZING! If you need stove/oven repair, Bay Stoves is your place. We had inherited a 1997 Wolf range that had burner ignition issues and an oven that need calibration. Wolf (now part of SubZero) wouldn't repair anything made before 2000, and we found Gabe on Yelp. We called a few places actually, but Gabe was available soonest and just talking to him it sounded like he knew his stuff. Sure enough, he was able to fit us in soon (in time for our Thanksgiving cooking needs), and he handled it all in one, brief visit (other places said they would need separate visits for estimates and then repair). Gabe with Bay Stoves did an incredible job with our stove. We're new homeowners (first time) within the last 9 months. Our 1932 house still has its original 1928 model Spark stove and while it had been lightly cleaned for the open house, it needed some serious tweaking. The range worked ok (mostly) but I usually had to light a match to get the flames to kick in. The oven would turn on with gas but I had no idea where to place the match and the temp. knobs wouldn't turn so we had never attempted to use it. Enter Gabe with Bay Stove. In no time at all, he cleaned out the gunky ancient burner assemblies, adjusted the gas/air mixtures and dismantled/cleaned/reassembled the temp. setting for the oven. Voila: our stove was in perfect working order after 86 years of use. Gabe taught me how to lite the oven, operate the broiler and showed me much better the jets in the range were. No more sooty pans! My husband and I were so impressed that we had Gabe come back a few days later to move the colossal stove closer to the corner and do a little work on the gas line. Super low rates, excellent work and Gabe is a cool dude to gab with. If you have an antique stove and want someone who genuinely cares about his job and this tiny(?) niche market we're in, call this guy right now.
