We are a nonprofit agency that provides shelter, meals and services to the homeless in Berkeley. We have had our Vulcan commercial stove serviced four times in the last 3 years by other companies. Bay Stoves was recommended to us from one of our partner agencies. This was the first time a service technician showed up on time, knew what they were doing and had the parts on hand to complete the job. Gabe, the technician, was fast, fair, friendly and very knowledgeable. They will definitely be the people we call in the future and will recommend them to anyone in need of their services. --

I'm so grateful for Gabe. Other repair folks said they didn't fix very old Wedgewood stoves. Gabe said he could, and did a wonderful job. He was easy to contact, it was straightforward to get an appointment, and he came in the time window that he said he would. He was able to find the problem, fix it, explain things to me, and answer all my questions. It was very reassuring. I will recommend him to anyone who needs someone to fix their stove.

    Now we're cooking :)

Gabe from Bay Stoves is very competent and professional. I scheduled him to work on my 1940's vintage stove that needed so much attention. The top burners barely worked, while the oven and broiler have never worked since day one. He sent a text in advance with his ETA to San Jose and showed up on time. My stove is now 100% functional and I'm really impressed with Gabe's knowledge of these old Wedgewood stoves! Call him! He's the right person for the job and his pricing is very fair!

    My mid-1930s Wedgewood

Gabe is the Wedgewood Whisperer! The other reliable vintage stove repair won't repair pre-1930s Wedgewoods. I sleuthed a bit and found Bay Stove. Lucky me. Gabe quickly fixed the sprung-open,oven door, and then calibrated the oven and sped up a slow-to-light burner. He was on time, texted me w/in 20 minutes of arriving, and was pleasant and professional. The price was reasonable, too. Well done, Gabe. Never, ever retire!

Gabe is a great person who is maybe the only person in Bay Area who knows how to work on old stoves from the 50's!

Ask the Community - Bay Stoves

Hello, do you work on DCS ovens? Something "exploded" this evening and trying to decide if I can replace the coil/part or if I need a new stove. I love this stove and hope it isn't done forever...

Yes, I do work on DCS ovens. If you can send me a picture of the stove and the model number I'll let you know if I have parts for that. Text it to 510-545-2513

Hi do you fix stove vent hoods? We recently cleaned ours and after putting the two fans back in place they make a lot of noise. Don't know what we did wrong.

I do not repair vent hoods. However, if it is a vent a hood, the metal casing may be on askew or if you removed the blower wheel the position is too far back or too far forward on the motor shaft. You may have to reposition multiple times to get it…

Do you buy vintage stoves for resale?

    No, we are repair only.

What is their price range for repairing a gas stove?

Prices vary but generally speaking it's $130 for the first half hour and $65 per half hour after that.

I've got to give Gary props. I called him because my fridge…read moredoor wouldn't stay shut (it would pop back open after 30 seconds of being closed); and he basically fixed my issue over the phone -- charged me nothing. I live in san francisco, and unfortunately Gary only services the east bay, but he was willing to listen to my issue over the phone and walk me through what he thinks the problem could be (and what it likely wasn't); and with his suggestions I was able to resolve the problem on my own. Prior to speaking with Gary I contact at least a dozen other places which weren't even willing to give me pricing for what I suspect was the issue (worn out gasket -- needed to be replaced); they only said they'd charge me $250+ to simply come out and diagnose (not even fix, just diagnose) -- that's it. A few were willing to inform me that after diagnosing, if it was indeed the gasket as I suspected, it would likely run me an additional $500 to $1,000 (not including initial diagnosing cost). Thank god I was able to chat with Gary - he might be the last honest and trustworthy repair man left alive. I will definitely be recommending him to anyone who ever asks for fridge repair.

The technician came during the time window, checked the fridge, looked at the fan and a few other things, and explained everything pretty simple. I also noticed he put covers on his shoes before coming in, which was nice because we have rugs by the entrance and I really don't like dirt on the carpet. The job took a little longer than I expected, but he did not rush and he cleaned up after himself. After the repair the fridge started getting cold again and it has been working good since then. The price was fair, maybe not the cheapest, but I rather pay for it to be done right. Overall good service and I would call them again.
