A great hole in the wall right around the corner on Fillmore street! This asian-owned mom & pop are very generous and helpful with any questions that you may have . As soon as you place an order, they'll whip it out in 3-5 minutes depending on toasting!! They offer a wide variety of bread options from Dutch crunch to sour dough, same for substituting / adding veggies. This time around I got the crab sandwich and it was surprisingly filling and delicious! For the price of a seafood sandwich, you're definitely getting your bang for your buck, I was ordering with the impression that it would be imitation crab meat. Solid 3 star joint; sandwiches aren't anything special and definitely overpriced -- but I enjoy supporting local non-chain establishments. As previously stated; the prices are a bit high (prices on yelp photos are not accurate) for the quantity/quality delivered, but it's still a decent place to grab a quick sandwich for lunch in a hurry. I ordered a LG Ruben and felt it was way too small without much meat/substance (2 out of 5 starts) and also ordered a LG Turkey which was better in terms of size and substance, but didn't necessarily taste spectacular and I still felt it was slightly overpriced (3 out of 5 starts). It's a small store, and service is quick and staff is friendly. Not my first recommendation for a place to go for sandwiches, but again -- not terrible either. read more

There are no shortage of great sandwich spots. While this doesn't make the list of elites I was still pleased. I came straight away for the bulgogi sandwich. This is the type of sandwich offering you won't get many places if anywhere I've seen. It was good but lacked any pop outside of the bulgogi itself. Would 100% order this again if I wanted a sandwich and I was nearby. You would be very happy if this was your local sandwich spot. Came back for the 2nd time in a couple weeks, and this time it was for the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich, which I had been eying since my first visit. I placed my order in-person and it was ready in under 10 minutes. I went with the bacon egg and cheese on a sourdough roll and requested the large size. They also gave me the option to add lettuce and tomato, which in hindsight I could've done without. Glad they used fresh cracked eggs for the sandwich, which is served as scrambled/omelette style. Wasn't sure if I could order over-easy or a fried egg, because I think that would have elevated the sandwich for me. Overall though, this sandwich was a miss for me. $10 for breakfast sandwich is ok but there was just 3 of the thinnest slices of bacon which was a bit of a let down. If bacon is the main protein, I'd expect there to be a bit more bacon as the sandwich was 95% bread and egg. The sandwich was dry, so I ended up adding mayo and sriracha when I got home to bring out more flavor and cut through the dryness. Definitely would not order the breakfast sandwich again, but would still be interested trying their traditional deli sandwich options. read more

The crab roll was good! Very peppery and the vegetables gave it a nice light freshness and crunch. The crab itself didn't have too much flavor outside of the pepper and the mayo but there was a hint of sweetness to it. The dutch crunch bread was soft and crunchy. The tuna melt was yummy as well! It had a good portion of tuna and cheese which was complemented by the freshness of the vegetables. The taste of the tuba was much more prominent than the crab for sure but both were equally delicious. The sourdough bread was flavorful and held the interior of the sando well. I got an Italian Sub with Pepper Jack cheese on Dutch bread. Ordering was extremely fast and easy. I absolutely loved the crunch on the bread and how it was toasted. The sandwich was toasted very nicely where the meat in the sandwich was perfectly warmed up and the cheese was very nicely melted. The taste was perfect. I loved the ratio of the meat, veggies and sauce. The meat were flavorful and the veggies especially the onions added a nice crisp and refreshing side to the sandwich. There was a nice spice added to the sandwich and it was wonderfully balanced with the veggies and the meat. (I had this for a picnic) Bay Subs & Deli is extremely close to Lafayette Park and Alta Plaza park. Popped into Bay Subs & Deli on a whim. We had had a big breakfast prior to walking from the Marina to Japantown for the Coffee Crunch cake then back to Fillmore Street for some shopping before a 2pm tour another 20 minutes walk away. No one was sure how hungry or unhungry we would be so we hadn't planned on anything in particular. But it was clear we needed something more substantial than just a snack and we ran into Bay Subs. I had the Turkey Special with pesto spread, Swiss cheese, no mustard. My sister had the Teriyaki Chicken with everything. My mom got a Chicken Breast Pesto with everything. The turkey and teriyaki were bigs hits. The chicken pesto was less successful, not enough chicken, too much lettuce. It's a hole in the wall place with limited seating. If you are looking for a solid neighborhood deli, this is the one! I have been frequenting Bay Subs for the last year or so, and really enjoy the quality, savoriness, and simplicity of their subs. I'm a vegetarian, so I usually go for the Veggie Sub. It comes with avocado, bean sprouts, onion, lettuce, tomato, and cheese, but is also very customizable if you want to add additional components. You also get your choice of bread, so I would highly recommend that Dutch Crunch bread because it is an SF classic (and is just more fun to eat and look at). The subs are also a nice size! I got the large and found that it could be split up into two small-ish meals or one larger meal depending on how you're feeling. I also want to note that Bay Subs is more of a "pick up" locale rather than a dine in restaurant. Literally, when I moved into my old apartment, a woman was eating a Bay Subs sandwich on the steps because they don't have any seating there. But if you don't live in the neighborhood, Alta Plaza park is only a 5 minute walk and has places to sit and eat. read more
