Apparently, most roofing companies only work on one and two story buildings. Who knew? After calling literally a dozen companies and either getting voicemail that they never reply to or being told that they won't climb onto the third story of a building due to insurance purposes, someone kindly recommended Bay Valley Roofing to me. This company is a large outfit that does both residential and commercial buildings. They immediately sent an inspector, Cody, out who was very thorough. He climbed onto the roof and took pictures, sent up a drone that did more evaluation, and presented me with a multi-page proposal. He then followed through with several phone calls and emails to see that had all my questions answered. When it comes to picking a construction company it boils down to two questions really. What is the quality of their work? Are they fair and responsive to customers? Bay Valley earns five stars from us on both accounts for the job they completed at our house. Here is why... We accepted the bid from Mr. Raul Diaz because we appreciated his candid, transparent communication about costs. We had been warned that construction companies often execute multiple surprise change orders to increase their profits throughout a job, but this never happened with Bay Valley. The one increase in cost that was unexpected was understandable and due to observable issues with our electric system infrastructure. As Mr. Diaz had initially promised, we stayed on budget throughout the job. The quality of a company's work is the end result of many small choices. We were both present during the entire job. We watched each step of the way and saw that all of the lines were perfectly straight, and everything was made perfectly level at each step of the way. One of Bay Valley's greatest assets is a finisher who does meticulous work. He came in to put the finishing touches on the flooring, every single door, the molding around the doors, the aprons for the windows, and the finishes for the bathroom - all done perfectly. Bay Valley also worked with subcontractors who held similarly high standards - Baltodanos for texture and taping of drywall and S.Y. Electric were both top shelf companies that did excellent work. In the end everything was done beautifully. We are 100 percent satisfied with how everything turned out. Also, this is important, because living in a house throughout a major construction job is an inherently stressful process. Never once did we witness any argument between anybody on the crew or with any of the subcontractors. Everybody worked cooperatively together with capable leadership and helpful communication from John Piermattei. Mr. Piermattei was wonderful to work with throughout the process. He was fair minded and a great communicator. For example, he warned us that there would be a lot of dust and then put up several high-quality dust shields that prevented nearly any dust from getting into the rest of our house. I noticed that the entire crew was really professional in the small things as well. For example, the worksite was always kept clean and organized. They never left over a weekend without putting their tools in a corner of the room in a neat and organized way and sweeping out the room. Every job will have a setback or two - this we accept as inevitable. Like any other job, this happened during the process. Here's why I mention this - you cannot know how a given company will actually treat you until you have a setback. The way that Bay Valley handled these setbacks was evidence to me that this company is dedicated to being decent, fair and reasonable with its customers. They communicated clearly with us and resolved each of the two setbacks in a way that left us feeling respected and treated fairly. Our understanding is that Bay Valley is transitioning to becoming the Bay Area's Premier roofing company. They will now be working on installing solar panels that are part of roofing systems in affiliation with a high-quality product made by GAF. We feel very fortunate to have been able to work with them before they made this transition. They made a beautiful room extension for us. We just finished our home's expansion (a very complicated project) done by Bay Valley Contractor's back in July. This was a not that so easy project. Both Bay valley contractors management and their staff member did a great job with excellent result. First of all they treated our home as their own home and were cleaning after themselves every day they finished their work even we didn't lived there during the construction. We've hired Bay Valley contractors for a couple of roofs. We had good experience in the past however when we hired them for a roof replacement this April they did a sloppy job. - Ugly stucco patch. A couple of neighbors even came to tell me that "your roofer did a terrible job with your wall, are you going to repaint?" - When they took down the old gutter a bit of wall damage occurred. They should have painted the exposed stucco before adding the new gutter but they didn't. Now it's very hard for us to paint the stucco to avoid water damage without taking those gutters down! - They left a huge mess in our attic. I didn't know about it because they picked up in the yard. When my electrician told me that our attic is covered in roofing debris I couldn't even believe it. He said the roofer should have protected it with a tarp and it's unusual that it's left so dirty. I uploaded the photos my electrician took to show me, but it's actually worse than the photos can show. - They also left roof debri in the gutter, which can clog our new gutters - The estimator gave us a verbal estimate on lifting the solar panels (by a third party provider) but never provided us a written contract, until the day before the take down. They called and said the solar take down would be $6000 (in addition to the roof replacement charges) instead of the $3000 that we were told before. With this change we decided to evaluate other options including getting new solar panels. We wanted them to inform us the exact cost of the different sizes of the solar panels in order for us to decide, but they said "You just need to tell me that size of the panel you want. Our workers are ready to start the job and you have to decide now!" without even telling us how much it would cost. We were firm that we are not starting the job unless we know how much will have to pay, and finally an hour later we received the solar contract in the email. The solar part was done by a third party but the estimator of Bay Valley recommended the provider and was supposed to coordinate for us. It could have been much less stressful if he didn't wait until the last day to tell us about the big price change. Although the review on the company is overall negative, i would like to mention that the owner Raul had been extremely professional and courteous as usual. Maybe it's just hard to maintain the quality of the crew with the expansion of business. read more

We had a new roof put on our house by another contractor and it leaked after a year or two. That roofer came out to repair the leak twice, but never fixed it properly. I want to warn people to avoid this company based on their poor craftsmanship and even worse service. They replaced my roof 9 years ago and with the recent rains we noticed a leak which caused water damage in our attic that needed remediation. After contacting Bay View to have someone come out and assess the damage, I was told someone would get back to me with a quote the following day. Never heard from anyone but knew they were likely busy. After not hearing from anyone 3 days later, I began a series of 8 separate phone calls to find out the status of the quote and was told each time it would be fine the day after calling. After the 8th time, I called back and no one would return my call anymore. I finally had the work done by Clear View Roofing who did a terrific job overall and showed me pictures proving the leak had started years ago when the roof was replaced due to very poor workmanship. All that said, I called one last time using a different phone number to give them one final chance to acknowledge the poor follow-up before leaving them a bad review. I was called back immediately by Carlos who apologized and used the excuse that they'd been busy... however, I asked on several calls prior to tell me if they were too busy as I needed to get the leak addressed asap due to water coming in the house. Carlos asked to see my invoice and pictures of the repair work Clear Valley performed which I sent to him via email. He wanted to discuss with his boss and get back to me with their thoughts. He immediately acknowledged receipt after receiving my email. Never heard back from him again. He also sent me the quote I'd been waiting for which turned out to be $1,000 more than the actual repair Clear View performed. Therefore, I will never do business with such a bush-league and unprofessional company like Bay Valley Roofing again. We called in with a need for a roof repair, his customer success team answered the call and talked through our problems with us. They then scheduled a field tech to come out and do the inspection, they hoped on the roof and took pictures (they sent me a link so I could see all the photos as it happened, this was soo cool). I got a my text notification that my inspection was all done and within minutes, Tanya had called and said my quote was ready. They sent me a zoom link and within minutes we were going through the entire proposal. They showed me all the problems areas and highlighted them on the photos, they line itemed all my issues and broke down how much everything cost. I was getting other estimates after but within a day, Tanya was following up but not to harp on moving forward, just to check in with any questions I might have had and I did. After the presentation, I had a few follow up thoughts that she answered quickly and I felt so comfortable we decided to move forward. Then came the roof install. Ryan called us shortly after signing and told us he'd be the contact for the project. We scheduled the project. The team came out full loaded with a dump truck and team. They had the roof tore off in less than 2 hours which blew my mind: the entire time this was happening I was getting text messages about each step of the roof. When they were finished tearing off, when they finished with the roof and cleaning up. They even have a section that showed how they were protecting my property and how they stayed secure with photos so i could follow along. Each day I got a message when they were arriving so I felt so notified of everything that was happening! The grounds were cleaner after each day than before they got there and the roof came out beautifully! I had such a great experience with this company and I will tell all my friends! I'm so glad I picked them. They were also within range of my budget and had a great financing option that helped make it affordable for my budget. We hired Bay Valley to build an addition to our home. Of all the bids we received, BV came in at about the middle, but Raul's passion won us over. There are a lot of great things I can say about BV, but I will focus on two things that, to me, are the most important. First is quality; We had a fixed bid, so BV could have brought in cheaper subcontractors to maximize their profits. However, every single person who worked on our house was top quality. I don't think Raul is capable of cutting corners - having something done poorly (even if it wasn't something that could be seen) would cause him to lose sleep. They treated the project as if they were working on their own home. The second is integrity. Raul and (project manager) John are just plain honest. Home renovation is stressful enough, but knowing I could absolutely trust my GC was a huge burden off my shoulders. There are a lot of other things I could mention (professionalism of the crew, cleanliness of the workspace, the effort taken to maintain privacy, etc.) I am not the easiest customer to work with. I like to know what's going on, when, and of any changes, before they are implemented. BV (and especially Raul) move FAST. There were a few times things happened before I was able to fully review and approve. When something happened that I wasn't happy with, Raul and John - without exception - made it right, even when it cost them money and time to do so. These are good people that put the product and customer ahead of everything else. A big project like the one we had takes a long time, and we got to see Bay Valley pretty clearly. A cover, probably 24 - 30 inches in diameter, was blown off on my roof in the middle of a huge rain storm and water was coming into the heating closet. I called several people who said they couldn't help until the rain stopped, which would have been a week or so. Dean, at Bay Valley Roofing came out quickly and fixed the issue, no charge. I am very satisfied with their work. Dean Mouser have even exceeded what he drafted to the contract by taking extra mile to satisfy his client. Although not the lowest bidder, the team of Bay Valley Contractor knows what they are doing. I have a flat roof house with roof frame damaged from the weight of the clay tiles on mansard roof. Bay Valley Contractors fixed the damaged roof frame with their experienced carpenters, installed Gerard metal roof around mansard roof slope surfaces, and laid an 80 mil IB pvc membrane with dense deck beneath the existing foam on my flat roof for a reliable waterproofing. The white pvc membrane is an effective thermal heat barrier and the existing foam is for insulation. They did not remove the existing foam membrane on my roof because it does not show visible water damage or dry rot underneath the deck during inspection. My house is cooler during summer without running the AC and keeps it warm during winter. I am overbudget with this project but it is me who requested quality materials. I expected Bay Valley Contractor to deliver a quality work with quality materials because the roof is the most important part of the house and it must be done correctly right at the first time. I told Dean that I wanted my roof to last my entire lifetime. The pvc membrane have 25 years warranty and I am sure it will last way longer than that. I should give them 5 star for their quality workmanship but only gave 4 because the project took over a month. This is due to some of the workers not showing up for few days and not hauling the garbage right away as it piles up during construction. No big deal since I do not entertain visitors in the house during construction. I must also give credit to Jose, the metal roofer. He works very hard and loves his work. Very detail oriented person, takes pride of his craftsmanship and does his work alone in a 100 deg heat! I will consider hiring them again on my next project. read more

I was looking to replace my old wood shingle roof, so I contacted about 6 companies to come out and give me estimates. The prices varied widely. Most could either not warranty their workmanship or could only do so for a year or two. They did not go into detail as to how the process would proceed and the type of materials they would use. I chose Bay Valley Contractors because they were the only company that explained exactly what they did and why and they offered the best warranty, which was 50 years on the materials and 25 years on the labor. They also had a great selection to choose from in different price ranges, all with the same great warranty. They only use GAF roofing shingles and products and their workers are specifically trained on how to install them and must go through ongoing training to ensure proper installation and certification, because of this even if they went out of business in 10 years I do not loose my labor warranty because their workers are certified through GAF. All shingles are also up to code for California requirements, Title 24. They are also a Diamond certified company, which is important to me. I have a large roof and they completed the job in 3 days! They were very professional, cleaned up nicely each day and it passed inspection without a hiccup! Most of all it looks beautiful and is well done!!! I am very happy with my new roof!!! read more

unfortunately we did not have a good experience from bay valley contractors. back in july/august they were to replace our roof and install solar panels which we were told would take 2weeks for permits and everything. we however did not get the roof completely done until december. This left our roof started and unfinished for months. This was also during the fire months and there was no way for us to completely seal up the house to have clean air when the aqi was at hazardous levels. The roof did not have shingles either at the time which put us a higher risk of ignition if a fire had found its way over to us. During this period, we were told that they were waiting on permits, workers had gotten sick, and there were multiple times when someone was supposed to come out to work on the roof and didnt. I contacted the county to see the status of the permit and was told that it had already been approved meaning that there was miscommunication within the contractor group. It was very disappointing and frustrating to endure this process and i know it is not at the fault of the workers or contractors but the higher bureaucratic entities. Overall we had chosen to go with BVC even though it was more pricy because we were promised that it could be done quickly. Lastly, they did not clean up their mess as promised and left us with a deck covered in roofing materials along with some stray plastic bottles littered in the yard. For the price we had paid and the impact the business had on our everyday life for months, i cannot in good faith recommended this company. Although the review on the company is overall negative, i would like to mention that every person i was able to talk to who was working had been extremely professional, courteous, and equally as frustrated that the job could not be finished for whatever reason. I had a bad experience with this company. It seem that they don't like to take on small jobs or particular challenging jobs or know what they can or can't do. I had call them to set up an appointment with the company to do a squirrel exclusion on my roof returns. Right off the bat I asked their rep if this is something they can do, they could of said "no, this is not something we do." But the rep insisted that this is something their roofer can fix so I setup an appointment. The roofer came to my house, took a look at my roofer and said my roof was too steep and he can't do anything. What a lazy excuse what a waste of everyone's time. Do roofers in this company not research the house from google earth with the address before they come? Are your reps not trained on what your roofer can or cannot do. I replaced my rolled roof material with a 60mil white IB membrane (with 2 inch foam insulation and 1/4 inch DensDeck), and had new solar legs/brackets installed in coordination with the solar installer's crew. Every interaction I had with the team at BVC was prompt and professional. It was pouring rain and our skylight was leaking. They came quickly, spent 3 minutes on the roof and informed me that the 12 year old Velux skylight was irreparably broken (tempered glass was no good anymore) and that it needed to be replaced, at a cost of almost $1,800. I was very surprised. So I had another contractor come. He spent 15 minutes on my roof, with a hose, trying in vain to find a significant leak. He assured me that the glass was in fine shape. We agreed to wait for the next rain storm and if it was still leaking he would return. He told me that whatever it was could be repaired easily and quickly. My advice: stay away from those people. Either they made an honest mistake (doubtful - they were adamant that the tempered glass was broken beyond repair), or they were trying to pull a fast one on me. Very disappointing. read more

They used to have Bay Valley Roofing and Solar name on their biz cards. Hope they got rid of their roof repair estimator Gary Podaridis. That guy was a joke - showed up for a scheduled estimate without a ladder - twice. 1st time his excuse was, the co. doesn't allow him to go on a roof after rain, as it might still be wet. Fair enough. 2nd time, the roof was totally dry, he came in a small collectible car and, to avoid questions, started complaining about some damage to it even before we got a chance to say hi. Never sent any formal estimate, but tried to give some numbers based on a couple of my own photos of the problem areas. read more
