I have heard a lot about Bayseas and was able to try it for the first time. It definitely lived up to expectations!!!! The prices were reasonable and the portions were generous. I had a fried catfish platter which came with 3 pieces of fish, fries, toast and I substituted the coleslaw with onion rings. I was extremely satisfied. The fish pieces were fried crispy and season nicely. The onion rings were a good mixture of batter to onion. It was excellent. Bayseas has a great family feel with the patrons being so friendly and welcoming. The staff were nice and courteous. Our order was to taken quickly and food brought out just as fast. This place has some of the best home style seafood around. Perfectly seasoned and never over or under cooked. The gumbo is fantastic. They have other dishes like pork chops that are equally delicious. They are moving from the current Converse location in the beginning of 2024 so call before visiting. read more

There was not a picture to be taken by the time I got downstairs to begin to enjoy our takeout order from Bayseas. My boys were already in the process of devouring their fried catfish, fried pork chops, fries, mac and cheese, cornbread, and Koolaid. I'm from the area and ate Bayseas as a kid, but had not remembered that this would be a great option for my fried food-loving family! I got a stern talking to by my husband for keeping this a secret. You truly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Everything is well-seasoned packaged well so you can just open the container and begin to enjoy. And, the portion size!!! There were leftovers for everyone, except the greedy ones who chose to be ridiculously stuffed instead. Now that we've been reintroduced to Bayseas, we'll be back at least once to twice a month. read more

This place is amazing! The food is phenomenal, the service is always friendly and wonderful! If you like seafood, this is it. Their food is made with love and it shows. Food was ok. What bothered me about this restaurant was them not honoring what was listed on the menu. My niece had the kids chicken nugget meal which stated it came with fries and ice cream. This is on the dine-in menu. The waitress asked her what did she want to drink and she said kool aid. Her meal came out along with her kids size kool aid. After completing her meal she asked for her ice cream. The other waitress then stated that she could only get the ice cream or the drink. Wait..what?? This is not what the menu stated and the previous waitress also said her meal came with ice cream. Non the less the mean and rude lady checking us out at the counter never budged on it leaving my niece to cry. I will never return. You lost a customer over a kids ice cream How about you all correct your menu so you don't hurt any more children's feelings. read more

No space, cheap chairs and tables, not a good experience. We ate there once to try it out and will never go back. The onion rings were so bad, they'd have to pay me to get them again. This spot was a first for myself and my wife today. We had one of each of the daily specials. Let me tell you something. Strawberry kool-aid on the menu as an option?!? Are you f----g kidding me??! Yes please!!! My wife had the lemonade which was JUST AS AMAZING. As you can see from the photos she got catfish and we got a 12oz. bowl of their made from scratch Gumbo as well. These fine and friendly folks serve food that will make you sit back in your sit and Indulge every bite. (did I mention the Kool Aid that brings you back to right after running through the sprinklers on a hot summer day when you were 12?!!!). The Gumbo was spicy and full of shrimp and andouille and celery and just.... WOW! Catfish? Tender and SO juicy. The trout? Never I have ever eaten this in my life. The breading it was fried in made it crispy and the "fishy"-ness was not overpowering at all. Cole slaw was about... 1000% better than KFC. We had to take some home to reheat in our air fryer. When a San Antonio friend says "Get the Gumbo at Bayseas Restaurant....trust me!"....you get the Gumbo! Boy am I happy I took that advice! I found Bayseas Restaurant on Yelp and lucky it wasn't too far of a drive from my hotel. Just a few miles off 1604 in Converse, it was really easy to find. The place itself is a small restaurant with only a few tables and a big wooden counter to take your order. Service was super friendly and quick. I didn't call ahead, I just ordered at the counter for my Gumbo to-go in about 7 minutes. The owner & head chef himself brought out my order, and already had a spoon and lots of saltine crackers in a paper bag and handed it to me with a smile. When I got back, I realized that he had put the Gumbo in a large styrofoam cup with a lid, and then sealed the entire thing in foil so it wouldn't leak. It also kept the Gumbo absolutely SMOKING HOT! Nice. The Gumbo was simply amazing. TONS of perfectly cooked shrimp, sausage and still-crunchy veggies, and the "sauce" was just the right amount of spiciness to put a small bead on my forehead!
