We have been going to this local favorite for nearly 20 years. While it has had its ups and downs the food has always ranged from good to fantastic. I wish I could say the same for the service. Somehow the service has failed to mature with the rest of the place. Our last visit there we had what could only be described as some of the worst service I have ever had in a restaurant. Short of wearing secret decoder rings that would have rendered us invisible I can't imagine a slower less attentive waiter. We sat for 20 minutes waiting to give our orders and more than 45 minutes to get our food. The waiter failed to stop by even once during the initial 20 minutes to let us know he was running behind even though he made it to the big table next to us at least 5 times. If you have the time and patience the food can be wonderful. The desserts are fantastic as well. Be aware that it usually is a wait to get in on the weekends and getting out in less than an hour can be nearly impossible if you have a subsequent engagement. read more

Awesome spot for a restaurant first off. The view is perfect and on a sunny day you can see for miles. Now to the food. I ordered the salmon burrito no cheese and black beans. All the ingredients are good, and taste fresh and home cooked, but they seem to lack the killer flavor of other places in the area. Absolutely nothing wrong though, just a little bland. Maybe I'll get guacamole on it next time. The dessert were pretty impressive. The tres leche cake was good, with a nice hint of orange in the cream cheese frosting. The carrot cake was warm, huge, and good . I enjoyed these desserts and want to come back to try the others on the list, though the area does have places with better desserts elsewhere in town. The waitress was nice and very down to earth which was cool. The prices though are a little high here. For a $13 burrito I would want a lot more included and a little more kick in the flavor department. Overall not bad by any means, but I would probably stop by here for mainly the desserts again. read more

Awesome place to eat! They have inside and outside seating. You can bring your dog (on leash) and enjoy the nice patio. Very friendly staff. I always order the chicken strips and fries and it's ALWAYS amazing. For my birthday we go here and get mudd pie. It's so delicious. Definitely NOT impressed. I stopped here for a late Sunday lunch and was seated after only a short wait. I chose the small fish & chips with sweet and spicy coleslaw instead of fries. Unfortunately the fish was both oily and over-cooked on the ends. The most prominent taste was the cooking oil. Regarding the coleslaw, this was more sweet than spicy. Regular coleslaw would have been a better choice. Service was prompt but perfunctory -- a little bit of personality might help. read more

I love bayside Cafe. I always forget about it baca us it is slightly out of the way of town. Staff is always friendly and food is always amazing. I love the chowder bread bowl, and my grandpa is obsessed with the green salsa. Whoever cleaned the Windows should get a raise because some guy walked right into it. Startled the entire restaurant. Based on a suggestion from someone at work who raved about the nachos we decided to check the cafe out. We had a lovely sunny day to enjoy the nachos that are better than most because they use homemade chips. It's a sweet and rustic place and we will definitely go again. read more

One of our favorite places to eat and well worth the drive from anywhere in the county. My favorite is the shrimp enchiladas which are done to perfection with homemade sauce and homemade pinto beans. Delicious as is everything else on the menu. If you're a burger and fries person, theirs is awesome with crunchy fresh fries. We eat here all the time and love it read more

Visiting from Fresno, we decided to stop by here on the way to our hotel. Nice little spot with a very friendly atmosphere and kind staff. Also a nice view of the bay / dock. I had the tri tip burrito, pretty good but a few pieces of meat were chewy from fat, maybe next time go for the chicken. Girlfriend had the clam chowder, got the large for only $1 more than the regular, it was good, but a bit fishy for our taste, quite a bit of chunks of crab and clam in there, maybe were too used to the fake not as fresh stuff, lol. read more

This was a great local hangout off the highway a ways but worth the spot. It is on the bay near boats and dock. It is right near the water. We sat at a great outside table for two overlooking the dock and walkway. Beautiful spot on a Sunny day. Loved the Crab Louie Salad. Good amount of tasty crab. Did not try anything else but the great tasting bread offered with salad. I loved this place off the beaten path as they say. read more

Bayside cafe has a cute setting near the water but their tacos are awful. The Cod Taco special was mushy and gooey-- they should just say it is a salad with tons of lettuce and a little bit of mushy sautéed fish. The crab cake sandwich our son ordered was very good and their special clam chowder with green chilis was tasty. Stick to ordering sandwiches here - or maybe the fish and chips which looked good, although we did not order them. read more

This place is a hidden Gem!. My wife and I came here a few years ago. Since then we have brought friends and family every time we are in this area. Awesome clam chowder, halibut, fish and chips, chicken picatta etc. We are here for a week and have gone twice so far. Last night the blackened sword fish was awesome. We are foodies and will pony up for the price of any good resteraunt and this place is as good as any you stack up against it without the high price. It's very dependable and great service. Don't bother going to the Harbor Hut or the Great American Fish Co., those places continuously disappoint with food I wouldn't feed my dog; they live off of their "established" reputations and I have a feeling since Morro Bay is getting more popular that they won't be there long unless they change their culture. We had a wonderful time and meal at the Bayside Cafe. The place was busy, but the wait wasn't very long. They have the cutest waiting area with benches and beach chairs for you to relax in. The servers were friendly and prompt. We had the house Chardonnay of the month and for our entrees we had the Bayside Steamer (crab leg cluster, lobster tails, scallops, shrimps, mussels, and calms all in a white wine and butter sauce), and the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. I loved the atmosphere, cozy enough for a date night, but casual enough for dinner with the kids. I can't wait to try the other menu items. read more

Had the clam chowder, wet fish burrito, and the kids had chicken strips/fries. The chowder is definitely one of the better ones out there, and we have had many. The wet fish burrito was pretty tasty, and was great with the homemade salsa that came with it. One of the best things though was the service. The staff was super-friendly, and gave our children some crackers while we were waiting. Was a really welcoming and kind service... Next time we are in town we'll definitely be coming back. Definitely was a nice treat to find this place unexpectedly. You have to drive into the Morro Bay State Park and it'll be on the right side a few minutes down the road from the entrance to the state park...truly a hidden out of the way gem. read more

This place is awesome! Right across from Morro Bay State Park, and a perfect location to grab lunch. Sat outside with my family our dog (they brought her a water dish right away!) and we ordered Nachos which were HUGE and delicious! It comes with the works, which is just how I like it. My hubby and I shared soup (carrot curry soup and a green chili soup) both of which were great. My aunt got a "cup o beans" which was disappointing. The beans were dry and flavorless :( My parents got a beef dip, which they loved. Overall a good experience for a casual meal with good service. read more

Such a wonderful setting, great service and the freshest seafood. We stopped there after a hike on Father's Day and we split some apps. They say us in a glassed in dining area where we got to enjoy the views of the bay and harbor. We saw a unique sighted of an Osprey on top of one of the sailboat mast. As far as food, we ordered the steamers which was a delightful mix of clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops & crab in delicious lemon butter with abut basket of bread to soak up the juices. read more

I just came from this restaurant. We had some great food. I had the fish tacos. They were great. The salsa was to hot for me. I wish there was a chipotle sauce. I didn't ask for any but they may offer it. Their clamchowder was fantastic. I got it with a little of their green chili soup splashed in it. It was so good. The atmosphere was loud and crowded but well worth it for the food. There was a little wait but gosh if there wasn't a wait you would wounder how good the food is before you even sit down. This place is a must try the next time you are in Morro Bay. Watching the sunset from the restaurant was well worth going for dinner. read more

The Bayside Cafe experience is kinda sub-par. I mean the view of the bay is great, and there were some select few items that wee really good, such as the appitizer of Scallop on a fried green tomato. Had a very good flavor, and was not bland unlike many other items. Also, the Boysenberry Crisp was fantastic with a crunchy crust, and was served hot and fresh, and the filling was hot, and was the perfect blend between sweet and sour, which made these crisps addictive. I would say these were so good that I would go back just for this menu item. Although the fish salad of the day (halibut) was a lightly flowered thin halibut filet wth okay flavor. It was totally not enough for the size of the salad. The salad had a few Large heads of romaine lettuce, pre shredded carrots which were okay, raw mushrooms which were tasteless and spungy, some spears of steamed, bland asparagus, a few pieces of again bland and flavorless broccoli, and finally 2 or 3 cherry tomatoes. Overall this salad was greatly unbalanced, flavorless, and had random and few things in it. Next, we had a shrimp cocktail, and the shrimp were large, and the cocktail sauce was fresh. Although for the price it could have been better. Also, we had crab cakes. We ordered a lot but they were very mealy and had too much breading, a lot of filler, and not much crab. We felt like we were eating a bad falafel. They were etible but, not a crab cake for the high price. We also ordered the fried fish platter. The French fries were pretty good. The fish was balnd, and was not worth the price. And finally, we had the fish and chips. The fish was not very fresh, and was flavorless. The breading fell apart easily, and there were so many fries that you could not eat your fish. The fish also had a not so very good flavor that I cannot describe. Although they did give you a substantial amount of fish, but I felt like it could be better for the price. The seating experience was good, and it was a 1 hour wait that was expected. We also did takeout the day before. We had forgot fries for our burgers, and the Cafe was pretty close to the campground. We called ahead, and we ordered what they recommended for 3-4 people. So, when we got to the Cafe, we went to the takeout window to make sure our order was placed. It was not. We had to order again which was a slight annoyance, but it was fine. It took them HALF AN HOUR to prepare 3 orders of fries. This took so long that when we came back to our campsite, our burgers were cold. I do not understand how that could take so long. Overall, most of the food is bland, and you should only get their signature items, and I would not go here as a destination, but if you are at the campground, and you need to get some close food. If you are looking for a good fish restaurant, go for something more premium, as none of the fish they sell is from the bay. So don't get tempted by the big menu and get the signature items. This is why I rate this Cafe 2 stars. read more

Had a bit of a wait - apparently the power was out in surrounding cities so they were busier than normal. We Ordered ahi and sea bass. They both had the same sauce on them which we didn't really care for. Would have been much better without the sauce. Clam chowder was delicious but overpriced. $7.50 and $8.50. The bowl was twice the size of the cup. So we recommend you order the bowl and share it. Our server (can't remember his name but the only guy working Friday night) was excellent.
