I had Menudo with Hominy (No pata) and enjoyed it. I feel it could've been more flavorful, as I felt the broth was not that great. But the chili and oregano helped it out. My dad got the chili relleno and flank steak and enjoyed it thoroughly. The table salsa was a bit thick and gave me canned tomato sauce vibes. La Katrina is hands-down the best Mexican restaurant in Morro Bay, and there is a lot of competition!! I frequent this restaurant and always get the same thing: chicken chimichanga with extra cheese and an extra side of sour cream. It is so good, I can't help myself. I eat it with tortilla chips, which are always hot and fresh. The salsa is quite spicy for me, so I dip them ever so slightly in the salsa so I don't totally burn my taste buds off!! The flavor of the salsa is wonderful, just a bit too spicy for me. I get a bottomless soda and they are usually really good about refilling it quickly. This is good because I drink a lot with my meals. The chimichanga is so large that every time I wonder if I can finish it or if I will have to take half of it home. But, each time I end up finishing it. I appreciated that they had a discount for the Morro Bay Winter Bird Festival participants, birding is hard work and we bird nerds need to fill our bellies!! I plan on bringin my family here when they come to visit soon and will most surely dine there at least once a month, bringing cash because they have a credit card fee. read more

I had the surf and turf, burrito bowl style, and it was so delicious! The chips and salsa/guacamole were great as well! The staff was super friendly and so sweet with my 7 month old baby, who decided she wanted to be a pterodactyl while we were dining. I will definitely come back when I visit Morro Bay again. Food was decent our server couldn't get us a larger glass for water it was against the house rule,what ? 7 guests and was cant get a larger glass, we asked for chips and salsa she said they dont bring them out until you order. Went here for breakfast. Husband and I had the breakfast burrito. Oh my goodness that was delicious! Fresh tortilla stuffed with scrambled egg, potatoes, cheese, and sautéed ham. My experience at this restaurant is limited to breakfast. Our hotel provided breakfast vouchers, and La Katrina was the spot for two of those morning. We were there to open the place at 8am both days. The man who waited on us was kind and professional. We ordered breakfast burritos and I had the more traditional pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. Food was fresh, hot and tasty right off the grill. Coffee is fine. If we're ever in Morro Bay for lunch, we'll definitely try out their heartier fare. Nice, honest place, which I hope will have great success. read more

We were looking for a breakfast spot on a Sunday morning. All the local places had huge lines. We passed la Katarina and saw the open for breakfast sign. We are traveling with our dog and they had a patio so we gave it a try. The food was great, the service was wonderful, and they were very accommodating to our pup. We had the mazapan pancakes, which were absolutely delicious, and the Cabo shrimp salad, which was spicy and loaded with shrimp. Perfect. They even grilled up some unseasoned chicken for our dog, which she really enjoyed. The patio is cute, the restaurant is nicely decorated, and the food was reasonable. read more

The hubs and I stopped in for Taco Tuesday in late October and we were so pleased we did! There seems to be a lot of taco options in the area, but this seems like the place to be. The staff was very pleasant and attentive, the prices were reasonable, and the food was very good! We opted for the special of the night which was 6 tacos - mix and match - we opted for el pastor, carne asade, and chicken. El pastor was the best, chicken could have stood a little more flavor. Incredible lunch experience in Morro Bay. La Katrina offers an extensive menu ranging from breakfast to lunch to dinner and homemade desserts. We went with tacos. I ordered the shrimp tacos. My partner had carne asada tacos. The chipotle sauce was delicious and tangy on the grilled shrimp tacos. Just the right amount of onions & pico de gallo, cabbage as well rolled into soft flour tortillas. Asada cooked well and yummy. The beans & rice were satisfying as well. Chips & salsa included. They offer patio seating with umbrellas for shade. Dog lovers welcome on the patio. Great location. Friendly service. So, got to check out La Katrina's several months ago & now back again! Will say, the food is good & I've yet to have anything bad from all the plates I've ordered. From Chile Relleno, Enchiladas, Taco, Burritos & so on. I will say that the Chile Relleno was my least favorite, but did like it. Was a little hard, almost like it was pulled too soon. I've posted before, but needed an update on how much we love this restaurant. First off, the service is excellent! Hector, Evelyn, Daniella and other staff (I haven't learned their names yet) provide top notch service. Everyone is attentive and checking on you throughout your meal. Isn't that why we enjoy going out to eat? The food is exceptional..,the carne asada dinner is my favorite, but everything we've had is sooo delicious! All the food is made in house except for flour tortillas. Don't even get me started on the beans lol. The ambiance is fun, lively and festive honoring one of the most endearing symbols of Day of the Dead with colorful fun decor in a spotless atmosphere. In good weather, the patio is nice and spacious with water bowls for your pets (maybe a pet menu someday?) There is plenty of parking too. If you're in Morro Bay give La Katrina a try. The food is not something I would really recommend if you want good flavors and experience. But if you're hungry and open to anything it's okay. The service is excellent however the ambiance was ruined with harsh overpowering chemicals. They were mopping an hour before closing. The smell made me nauseous and made me food taste bad. The only redeeming quality is the festive atmosphere and the wonderful table service. But skip if you enjoy good food. read more

Had a GREAT meal here the other night! It really surprised me, because even though Morro Bay has many Mexican restaurants they are all just mediocre. The only halfway decent Mexican restaurant in our area has been La Palapa in Los Osos, for anything other than a burrito. But I must tell you...La Katrina is just as good if not better! I came here and ordered their chile relleno dinner and it was fabulous. The beans and rice were even very good. Such great flavor. And the ambience was fabulous too. Great decor that reminds you of la dia de los muertos with all of the skeleton characters. They also have a very cute bar. And the service was impeccable! I had my food in just a few minutes and while I was waiting, I nibbled on some great chips and salsa. The salsa wasn't hot, but it was spicier and tastier than most. What caught my eye right away was they served Menudo. I always look for Mexican restaurant that serves Menudo. Very nice and clean restaurant. Decorated in Los Muertos. Frida Kahlo design. I ordered of course the Menudo, Hubby Breakfast Burrito and Daughter Pancakes. The Menudo was on point. To some it may a little Spicy but it was perfect for me. Hubby's Breakfast Burrito was delicious and daughter's pancakes were also good. The restaurant has also a small Bar. My husband and I stopped by this place one evening and we were checking out their menu they had outside of their restaurant. Some of their breakfast items sounded yummy. So my husband went in to ask what time they stopped serving breakfast but before he can even finish his sentence the guy cut him off and told him we close at 8 very rudely. My husband then said I wasn't going to ask that I was going to ask when you stop serving breakfast, the man then again responded very rudely again and said I said 8 o'clock at that point I had already walked in cause I heard the man's tone and attitude from outside so I walked in and told my husband let's go. There is no way we will be giving any business to an establishment that talks to anyone with such rudeness and poor demeanor. read more

The food is great! We love to get one of the burritos and then take home half for dinner. Wendy, Rafa and Danielle are super gracious and provide fantastic service. I have shared with Wendy what a gifting she has for anticipating what people need. All of them are such great people it keeps us coming back just to see them. The restaurant is well decorated and clean! For me the bathroom is always a sign of how a place cares for their kitchen. The restroom is always clean even though it it on the main drag of Embarcadero where all the tourists walk by. Another big deal is there is plenty of parking because they have a parking lot and not just street parking. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and the portion was no joke. I didn't leave hungry, that's for sure. It's one of the best I've had in a long time. I was full and happy. My husband had the fish tacos. He loved that the fish was cut into pieces, not one big slab, which way easier to eat and packed with flavor and tender bites of perfection tucked lovingly in tortillas. Our server Daniella was an absolute delight. Friendly, charismatic, and super attentive. She didn't miss a beat. We felt genuinely welcomed and taken care of. And even though the owners Hector and Wendy were clearly busy running the show, they still made time to stop by and chat with us. That kind of personal touch? Priceless. You can tell they care about their customers and their community. Enjoyed a filling, affordable, and tasty brunch here before leaving morro bay. I ordered the breakfast burrito with a choice of chorizo which was delicious! The chorizo, potato, cheese, and egg together made for a savory and comforting meal. They give a tiny bit of pico de gallo on the side which was not nearly enough to pair with the big burrito, but I asked for their hottest salsa and they were quick to give some! It was really good and went well with the burrito. The burrito was very greasy and I wish the potatoes in it were cooked slightly longer, but still so tasty and filling (full after only finishing half). My mom got the chorizo con huevos which she enjoyed but she did say she wish the eggs were cooked less hard (could just be a preference). Servers were friendly and attentive. They gave some sort of discount for my breakfast burrito as it was only $7.95! Love the colorful decoration inside and the music helps to wake you up in the morning. read more

This review is based on the Chile Relleno en Crema only. The salsa, atmosphere and service was wonderful. But, the Crema sauce for the Chile Rellenos en Crema was not what I expected whatsoever. I expected a white cream sauce as what I have experienced in Southern California. Not sure why this appeared orange. The flavor was good but maybe as a dipping sauce for taquitos or something. The chile rellenos themselves were excellent. However, the sauce made it inedible for me. HOWEVER, I would definitely come back to try other item like chilaquiles or regular chile rellenos. I don't doubt the food is good. I just had my tastes buds craving a crema sauce (white). read more
