Surprised that I haven't written a review of the Harbor Hut before, but here goes!! I was able to get one of the convenient handicapped spots. Music was a bit loud, nice fresh flower in vase on table, rotating fans, wood table that was not sticky, window seat with nice view, bench seat, bright at table but shades if desired, bar in another part of the restaurant, no distracting people walking ny the window, right on the bay. Sticky wood-covered menu, mostly fish and seafood, no chicken strips, ordered cheeseburger and fries, no tomato and add mayo. They didn't ask how I wanted it cooked. Salad is house greens, not crunchy so I passed. Soda bottomless, but Pepsi products. Ketcup came on the plate, nice thick napkins (but I needed more), no may!! Refill of soda slow, the busser ended up refilling for me (thanks!!) but no more ice. Fries were great, wish there were more though - I had to pace myself while I ate the burger. Burger was juicy and the bun, although dry, held together. I felt a bit rushed at the end but ordered a Mud Pie to go. They have a 2.99% credit card fee, which was a bit confusing on the menu and pre-receipt. I am going to have to start carrying cash!! A bit dingy, the Harbor Hut is located on the water of Morro Bay and has a great view of the water and if you're lucky, otters! Our waitress was great and made sure to check up on us and made sure we felt welcome. The food was pretty typical Central Coast fare. My sister got the clam chowder and bread bowl and loved it! My other sister got the fish platter and I got the prawns. Over all the food was good but I'd like to point out that there is a difference between fried and greasy. The double fried French fries were crispy and great taste, the battered fish was just greasy. Also, if you're like me and popped in because it says "steak" on the sign please be aware that steak is only on the dinner menu. read more

Great service, nice atmosphere, but the food needs work. 1) Shrimp scampi: rating 1/10. Disappointingly small 5 shrimp on a plate. The sides took up most of the plate. So essentially I paid for a $32 plate of veggies and fried potato cake with a side of shrimp. See photo of my plate of sides. 2) Pacific Red Snapper (Cajun spice), veggies and mash potatoes. $32 Rating 7/10. 3) Clam Chowder: $12 bowl. Rating 2/10. Oddly off tasting. The Fisherman's salad was ok, though not comparable to many other local restaurants for a similar price point. Three of our party ordered the patty melt. None finished the full sandwich. My better half brought hers home and said it bothered her stomach. I said I would take it for lunch tomorrow. I took one bite. As she and my folks had said, the thousand island dressing had much too much heat for thousand island dressing, and the toasted bread was way soggy even upon arrival to our table. I took one bite and binned it. When I called the manager was polite, and focused on if wait staff had asked if everything was ok. It was not, but a lot of seniors prefer not to cause staff problems. Manager held that their sauce was regular thousand island dressing. After many decades of eating on the Embarcadero and the Hut, we will not return. Manager would have done well to offer a desert or something. Come to think of it, though it was a birthday reservation, nothing was even said. Harbor Hut is a favorite when we're in Morro Bay; this is not our first time. The fried options are very good. The salmon is a 4 out of five, but skip the pilaf for another choice. The clam chowder is also a favorite. There are very many things I would avoid, but the bruschetta is one of them. I mean, why would we expect good bruschetta at a seafood place? Soggy bread, little to no olive oil, just not good bruschetta. I'll rave about the oysters though. If you live then on the half shell they are big, tasty, a not overly priced. It was between The Harbor Hut and Frankie and Lola's across the street - and seeing as how I'm not big with breakfast, we went to the Harbor Hut. I ordered the Fish and Chips - with a salad. It was so delicious! Seems the further north you go, the better the fish and chips become! The service was amazing! I didn't catch our waiter's name but he was so unbelievably kind and sweet. Prompt service - but as a human being, he needs a raise! My only issue with the Harbor House was the ambiance of the restaurant was not my vibe in the slightest - tiki, fish, tropical, boats. But that is absolutely no reason to knock even half a star down. read more

This is our fav restaurant in Morro Bay!!! We love the tiki/surf flair to the decor. The views of the harbor and Morro Rock!!!! We've had various servers (Dylan & Reese) that are amazing! So friendly and efficient!!!! The food and drinks are also great! We really love the big kahuna Mai tai's! On our last visit, we had the stuffed jalapeño and crabcake appetizers, and they were both beautifully presented and equally delicious! Spent over $200 here expecting great service and good vibes, but unfortunately, the experience was anything but. We ordered a variety of food for the entire table to share, yet our server, Malia, was extremely rude and unprofessional. Instead of treating us with respect, she and another staff member were overheard talking down on our group simply because not everyone was ordering individual meals. That kind of attitude is completely unacceptable--especially at a place with premium pricing. If you're spending that kind of money, you expect to be treated with basic courtesy. Came here for our last dinner and had a great time! Our server Nathan was amazing! He was so kind and friendly! He answered all our questions and took us on the balcony so we could get a perfect photo with the best back drop. He deserves 10/5 stars! I would go back just for him! We had the calamari to start which was fantastic! My mom had one of the pastas with prawns. It was light and delicious. The portions are huge. I gave it a 4/5 stars due to my crab being watery and lacking in flavor. I would come back though since the rest of our food was great and again loved the service! There was an incident with a customer who was entitled and in the wrong and Tony showed professionalism, compassion and he had our back with this horrible and miserable woman and we will never forget that! The only thing good was the fresh bread that was brought out before the meal. ALL of the seafood in my Cioppino was over cooked - even the shrimp!- it was inedible. Husbands steak was tough and over cooked, he almost cut the plate in half trying to cut it- not to mention an in n out burger tasted better than this steak. I will not be back and will never recommend this place to anyone. ALSO- the bill was outrageous. Didn't even offer to refund anything even though I wasn't able to eat any of my food. We decided to enjoy a "nicer" dinner so we chose the Harbor Hut. My husband ordered the fish and chips which really was flavorless. There didn't seem to be any seasoning in the batter or on the fish- without tartar sauce it wouldn't have been edible. I ordered the sirloin steak with vegetable and a side salad. The steak looked gorgeous when it was delivered. The side salad was an additional $4 which is no big deal but it had kidney beans and beets on it. Seemed like strange ingredients for a side salad. I ordered my steak medium well and it was very pink, almost red in parts. Our server only came back one time and at that time I hadn't realized how undercooked the steak was. At the end when the busser took our plates I showed him the parts of steak I didn't eat and asked him to let the cooks know- he said he would. Then when I told our server she just said I should have let her know and they would have put it back on the grill. We can't let you know if you don't come check on us. Lastly we ordered the mud pie and that was good. It didn't seem like actual ice cream- more like frozen iced coffee- but very delicious. I am not one to complain much about a restaurant but a $100 dinner that you leave feeling disappointed is something others should know about. read more

The manager, who by the way would not provide his name, was very disrespectful when the service was challenged by our party. We complained about our order taking way too long. We arrived with a party of eight after calling in ahead and we didn't receive our dinners until over an hour and a half later. We had inquired to when our dinners would be served. The waitress said ten more minutes and it was actually twenty minutes later. The meals were satisfactory however our moods were already tainted. When members of our party asked for the manager, he spoke to us in a condescending and disrespectful demeanor. He made excuses and even made judgmental statements towards our group. It was beyond unprofessional and insulting towards customers that were paying for quite a large tab. Very disappointed in the person that is the face of a business that needs patronage to be satisfied with their experience. Shameful to say the least. read more

It was awful, tasted like canned chowder. The garlic fries were basically fries with a ton of cooked garlic on top; again awful! Finally, the "sourdough garlic bread." Seemed like regular white bread toasted in a pan. The service was minimal at best. They didn't even try. We actually went to the wrong spot. Much better experience than last time, primarily because of the great attitude & friendly service of Amelia. However, they are still having issues getting the food out at the same time. There were six of us and the food came out only two at a time. So, by the time the last two dishes finally arrived, the first pair was most done eating. That said, Chopped Steak w/onions & mushrooms was filling and tasty. The Pappa "G's" clams & pasta was pretty soupy. And while the brownie dessert was yummy, it took ages show up as well. read more
