Marty is a real life Angel. Buckle up for this review because it's going to be long, but I promise it's worth the read. They say the worst time to buy a car is when you're desperate and with my luck, that's exactly what happened. My 1999 Toyota 4Runner had seen better days. Truthfully, I was afraid she would just stop working on the highway and it would get me into an accident, or spontaneously blow up. I knew I had to get something a little newer, but literally had no idea where to start. So naturally, I turned to the internet. Man oh man does everyone have an opinion these days. ANYWAY, I had never bought a car before this. I was afraid to do private seller because my ex and I did that with the 4runner and we got ripped off. But corporate dealerships scare the hell out of me. I was searching and searching and searching and then I came across Bayside Motors. Bayside Motors: a used car dealership with an owner named Marty had 4 STARS. 4 STARS AT A USED CAR DEALERSHIP?? Naturally I had to read the reviews. I figured it was worth a shot considering it was somewhere between a private dealer and a corporate big time car dealership. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. Marty is a real life Angel and nothing you could say could convince me otherwise. He is honest, fair, direct, knowledgeable, patient and most of all, kind. He took the time to walk things through with me and help me get a car at a really, really good price in my dire circumstance. I know nothing about cars nor do I know anything about buying cars so he could have very easily swindled me for more $$ or sold me a crappy car that he wanted off his lot. Yet, he did neither of those things. Instead he walked me through the loan process, let me test drive cars on his lot, explained car things to me and even went so far as to help me set up my insurance for my new ride. If it was possible to give this place 6 stars, I would. In a world where nobody gives a sh!t anymore, Marty will make you believe that there are still good people in this world. Marty is hands-down the most amazing sales person I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. He is absolutely in a category of his own. I was excited to leave this review because it gives me the opportunity to share my experience and an opportunity to make sure that Marty is recognized as an outstanding salesman and overall just a great person. I find myself forgetting that he's even a salesman and just thinking of him as a friend! He's really been so helpful for this whole process. I hate to put my personal business out there like this, but I feel it is worth sharing in order to give Marty the accolades he deserves. So, I purchased a Honda Pilot last month from Marty and what seemed like a simple purchase backed by a loan I'd been already approved for from my bank has turned into something of a nightmare, but Marty has been so encouraging and positive and patient, like for real he has gone WELL above and beyond what anyone would expect of a car salesman, I mean he has truly proven that there are still good people in this world. Throughout this whole ordeal, he has been understanding and very cool, while I've been at the point where I was in tears and just frustrated to the max! But Martys been supportive and encouraging. I can basically guarantee that any other salesperson would have given up by now and just been done with me and the whole situation, but he has not! He's been a blessing and it's been really refreshing to do business with someone who is so heartfelt and considerate. Not one time during all of this have I ever felt Marty was motivated financially, like at all. That's been super cool, he just seems to actually care and want to help folks. I genuinely applaud his efforts. And while my particular situation is not yet at its end, I have to say that whatever the outcome, I absolutely 150% would recommend anyone to go see Marty at Bayside motors to purchase your next vehicle. He definitely will get you a more than fair price, he provides all the info you might not get from most dealers, he answers any questions with facts only, no punches pulled, and then when you finally do leave the lot in whatever vehicle you have purchased, he will do a thorough walkthrough to make sure you understand all the functions of your new ride, which is awesome. Marty goes the extra mile to help his customers make sure they're making the right choice. No pressure, no gimmicks, nothing but honesty and fair prices. He even helped me look online to see if I could find vehicles that weren't in his inventory! How cool is that? So yea, I literally forget that I'm buying from a used vehicle dealership, it just feels like friends or family. Thank you Marty! I called ahead and asked if I could bring a mechanic friend with me to check it out and plug in his diagnostic equipment. He said 'sure, no problem'. Also, I wanted to finance through my Credit Union in LA, and he was totally fine with that too. Came down with my friend, checked out the car, he was not high pressure at all. The car was in great shape, and we agreed on a price. Since I was financing through my CU, I figured I'd have to come back another time to pick up the car, which I was totally fine with. He called the CU to verify I was approved for a loan and then said 'I'd hate for you to have to drive back down here, just take it.' Visited Bayside Motors to check out a truck I had seen online, and came down from Los Angeles to do so. Bayside was very helpful and open in sending me lots of photos beforehand to make sure my trip was worthwhile. Unfortunately, when I got there in person, I didn't think the truck would work out, which happens. However, Marty let me know of another truck that he hadn't even listed yet in a similar price range. When I saw it, it was really a dream truck, perfect for my circumstances, and hard to find. After taking the truck to the dealer for a normal inspection and them finding a few minor things, Marty was helpful in working with me on the right price. An overall smooth and easy process. A lot of the reviews here seem sore because people didn't get their cars inspected beforehand. Look, if you're a serious buyer, that inspection is always worth it. Cars are a major investment, so learn about what you're buying. There are very few perfect used cars. I would be happy to recommend Bayside to friends. read more

Marty was big on telling us the SUV we bought had just been smogged....good for 2 years. Less than a week after we drove it off the lot the check engine light came on. It was the catalytic converter. You can't repair those in CA. You have to buy new ones. It cost over $800. Then, after 2 1/2 years of paying off the lease, it was never reported to the credit bureau. We were told we were doing good things for our credit. Turns out, it's as if we never took out a loan at all. Buy used cars from certified dealers. Stay away from mom and pop shops like this. read more

He wanted to trade in his old car and buy a used car. He went in, was offered a fair price for his trade-in, and got a fair price for the used car he purchased. Everything seemed to have worked out well, and was very easy. Then the problems started. The next morning, there was a noticeable oil leak under the used car he had just purchased. It was obviously leaking oil. He took it back to the dealership, asking that it be repaired, since he had just bought it the day before. The Bayside Motors owner offered to have his mechanic check out the car and get back to my friend. Later that day, my friend received a call from the owner of Bayside Motors, explaining the problems with the car. The owner said that the main front seals were leaking. He offered to pay for the repair of the main front seals and return the car to my friend. Sounds good, right? Well, my friend went to talk to the mechanic directly, and the mechanic gave an honest assessment of the car: the front seal leak had let oil leak into the timing belt chamber, requiring replacement of the timing belt and chamber as well; the front bearings were bad; valve cover gasket showed seepage. The valve cover gasket repair did not need immediate repair, but it was a time-bomb waiting to happen. Sooner or later, the gasket would blow or would leak, requiring repair. Cost of this entire repair, which the mechanic said was required to bring the car to good condition, was estimated to be over $2000. My friend went back to the owner, and the owner would not pay for all these repairs - which his own mechanic had said were required! The owner claimed that there would be no profit in selling the car at that point, so he wasn't interested. My friend was not having this, so he demanded his car back and to return the car he had bought, effectively cancelling the whole deal. Owner was fair, and allowed cancellation of the deal. As my friend was leaving the lot, the owner moved the car my friend HAD JUST RETURNED and put the "For Sale" sign back on it, without doing any repairs. Not even the main front seals had been fixed (it had been only a few minutes), let alone the extensive repairs his own mechanic had said were required. My friend recommends anyone buying a car from this dealership have this car thoroughly checked out before committing to the purchase. read more

Do Not Buy a car from Marty! He assured me that the car I purchased for my daughter had been thoroughly checked out. Not the case. All the fluids were either empty or low! When I looked at the car the tire was flat he pumped it up and said it was fine. Not the case the tire had 2 nails in it and had to be replaced as well as the other rear tire that was 6 years old. $211.00. Then the engine check light came on.... New Cam Sensor New Water Pump and Timing Belt New oil gasket... It was leaking $682.00 Still might need a catalytic converter And needs front brake rotors! What a rip off! He didn't bother to tell us he was moving forward with the purchase and let us sit outside waiting for him like jack asses. This has been the absolute worst experience I had looking for a car. The owner is an inconsiderate asshole that treats you like your the scum of the earth. In the middle of our conversation he tells me to hurry up, that his time is valuable and that I should leave if im not looking to finance a car. Well I bought a Toyota Matrix from Marty and a week later the Check Engine light came on , so my nephew checked it out with his OBD 2 reader and told me the trouble code had been reset about 200 miles ago.The trouble code said Misfiring in Cylinder #4 .I tried to fix it myself at first ,but eventually the car needed a new head gasket because of low compression. So when Marty called me up to let me know my registration was at his place, he asked me how was the car so I told him what had happened.He said, he had sent the car over to Joe Jr. To get it checked out!! He asked , why I didn't let him know right away, I told him I didn't think there was a time limit on" Doing the right thing", he said he felt awful and that he would talk to his accountant about getting me some money back for the $1800.00 In repairs. It has been 5 months since then, It is not to late to do the right thing!!! read more
