This restaurant was recommended by some locals so we gave it a shot. I'm trying being vegetarian so I was looking for something veggie and no seafood. However, my colleague was excited to try some seafood. I had the vegetable fried rice and it was very good. I really enjoyed the broccoli, onion, zucchini and carrot. I put the raw cucumber and tomato to the side. It seemed weird to be a garnish on the dish. The salad that came with our meals was literally a bowl of lettuce a couple of slices of not so ripe tomato and some carrot slivers. Not impressive. My favorite part of the experience was when my colleague asked our food server about her choice between two seafood dishes, she very casually said, "I don't know, I don't like seafood". Drove up from Rockport. Great selection and prices. We both had the 8 grilled shrimp, with slaw and veggies. Tasty shrimp. I ordered the stir fry to take home. I think 3-4 meals from the container. Do not go here if you want seafood at a coastal restaurant. The staff were friendly and funny. The breading on the fried seafood lunch was the worst I've ever had. I wasn't even sure where I needed to eat the stuffed crab because the whole thing was covered in that nasty breading. The appetizer with egg rolls was terrible also (way too much overpowering cabbage and sweet and sour sauce barely had any flavor and was runny like water). The stuffed jalapeños were the same as at Sonic- except burned to black. The burger was just average although the bun was good. So burger and seafood lunch and the appetizer and 2 drinks for a lunch special- $50. Go to Indianola instead. read more

This place came by recommendation of a "must stop" on our way through town. Here's the break down. Interior: smh. It was actually pretty horrible. Nothing made sense on the walls or tables. Not romantic. The place needs a significant remodel. No walls to cut noise so the interior was noisy.our table was a little sticky. Service: this was tricky. No one knew they were working our table so we didn't get a waitress till about 10 minutes after being seated. There was obvious confusion between the manager, hostess and the waiter/waitresses. The food though was really good and would be the only thing that would get me to come back. Decent portions but very flavorful with the exception of the stuffed crab. I would pass next time. They appear to be know for their shrimp which was delicious. I had the crawfish tails, breaded oysters and fish which were all really good. The calamari was thick cut and slightly over cooked. 5 selections on the kids menu's. For 7 people we spent just north of $160. I wouldn't feel the need to stop by as I travel through. We were traveling through on our way home to East Texas and we googled restaurants in the area. The high reviews won us over. The minute we stepped in we were wowed. This is a mom and pop owned place but don't let it fool you. This was the best surf and turf meal we have ever had!!! Ive travels quite a bit and have had numerous seafood dishes. I have mixed feelings about this place. I ordered boiled snow crab. When it arrived it was cold. That being said it wasn't bad persay, just not what I was expecting. It was topped with a seafood spice which I think was what made it taste okay (MSG anyone?). They had frogs legs which I had always wanted to try, so we ordered one to share. Yep, tastes like pond chicken. Bucket list *check.* After the so-so meal we decided to get a dessert, key lime pie. Average. The others at the table ordered baked fish. We visit Victoria occasionally to see family, and this is their "go-to" spot to take us. I've always meant to leave a review and I'm finally following through. It's my understanding it changed ownership this year, but we've been going for a few years and I didn't notice any changes (except no beer because they are between licenses). Bayside is a no-frills seafood restaurant, but the food is very good and never greasy. The fries are the slightly battered kind and always crispy. Our family always gets combos of fried catfish and shrimp, and even my picky son loves Bayside. Also, the iced tea is great and they'll do half unsweet and half sweet without making a face at you. I've been here twice and while the decor and atmosphere isn't the snazziest the food is so very good! I have gotten the same thing both times (catfish and shrimp) and I haven't been disappointed. cant say it was a good experience, i found a fingernail in my food and the manager proceeded to tell me it couldn't be a fingernail because fingernails aren't yellow... i've been sick ever since i left that restaurant. i had a burger and i was actually enjoying my meal and the atmosphere until i found a fingernail on the french fries. absolutely sickening, i lost my whole appetite so i left more than half of the burger and the fries the manager had remade for me. i would never come back, it's sad because the servers were great at their jobs.. i just don't think i would want to eat at a place where the manager can't identify what we found in my food lol. read more

Got the fried platter with 2 battered catfish fillets and 5 fried oysters. They use a batter similar to fried chicken which makes the super flaky and light unlike the traditional cornmeal battered catfish. The oysters were fresh and deliciously battered and fried. The combos come with your choice of french fries, vegetables or white rice. And then your choice of salad or coleslaw. Don't expect anything fancy like argula. The salads were way too overdressed. The grilled platter was excellent. I got the grilled catfish fillet with scallops and shrimp. The shrimp was slightly overcooked but the fish and scallops were good. Overall the food is pretty good. A bit on salty side though. The restaurant is definitely casual, not fancy. Nothing like china plates. They have about 8 TVs so it's good place to watch a game. read more

Absolutely the worst service possible. The server screwed up our two person drink order, forgot to bring us our salads before the meal, and messed up the side orders as well. 1 for 4? Not sure it was the waitress' fault as they were severely underhanded. Walked it into 8 or 9 tables needing to be bussed and the cashier told us to sit where we wanted so I grabbed our utensils and two menus and sat at the only booth that was clean. It was an absolutely horrible experience. However, I gave it two stars because the grilled seafood I ordered was good. The scallops, shrimp, and catfish were quite tasty. Now, if they can work out the serving issues, there is hope. read more

Manager was very unprofessional and quite rude honestly. We found a fingernail clipping in our food and when we brought it to her attention, she told us that it wasn't a fingernail because fingernails aren't yellow, but openly admitted that she had no idea what it was. Well, fingernails can turn yellow when you don't wash your hands. It was definitely a fingernail. My friend didn't want to add gratuity after finding said fingernail, and when he sent his card with the crossed out gratuity, the manager came to the dining room and insisted that he leave gratuity. She told him that her employees won't get paid if he doesn't leave gratuity. we had a party of 30, and the rest of us left sizable tips. it was a reserved event. Overall just not a great experience :( on a lighter note, the servers were amazing and handled the large party quite well! sad that their boss couldn't provide the same hospitality. read more

I came down to visit my Mom and we went to Bayside to eat. Not only was the food over priced but terrible. The oysters were so tuff they were hard to chew. The shrimp were boiled then fried with a heavy batter. And the bake potato was not cooked completely. When I went to pay the fellow behind the register who I'm assuming was the manger (Mr. Lee) would not even acknowledge me when I told him about the food. This I find even worse than the food. My grandmother owned a cafe in Yoakum for 45 years before she retired. Whenever she had someone complain about the food she would at least talk to them and make it right. I'm moving back from the Galveston/Houston area (retiring) so I know what seafood should taste like. Plus my Dad was a part time shrimper. The food at Bayside is BAD!! read more

No a la carte ordering... the bundling is overpriced and they do not make exceptions. The waiter could have been more communicative to help us set expectations.... The seafood gumbo was great. I was disappointed the shrimp wasn't deveined in the (Mexican shrimp cocktail)ceviche and it's on the sweet side . The fried catfish and shrimp seemed to have a dirty grease taste...
