Well darn it I don't live in Gainesville but I love this bbq chicken spot! The chicken (boneless) is extra crispy and delicious. I'll have to come back check out the rest of the menu, the dumplings were 10/10 as well. Only ding is I spent $40 for med boneless order with dumplings and a drink, expensive but you definitely get what you pay for. The chicken is very meaty and I probably should've gotten a small but, omg it was so worth it! Like any self respecting Korean chicken spot they have the Kpop running on the TV's. The Gainesville bbq chicken seems to be the "newer" type of franchised bbq chicken (as opposed to the OG Centreville location). The upside and the downside is that the menu is heavily chicken based, as opposed to other sides of Korean food. It's not the worst thing, I guess. But the menu is an overload of various sauces and variations that you almost get lost in it. Regardless, the chicken itself is delicious! Food - chicken was great, perfectly crispy skin with delicious juicy meat in the inside. Came with pickled radish, which was good but small in portions. They charge for extra which is generally not a thing at Korean restaurants (charging for banchan). Also ordered the tteok-bokki, and while the dish itself was great, I highly recommend you exclude the cheese. It adds a very artificial flavor to the whole dish. Service - slow, but friendly and accommodating. Overall, I'd definitely come here again, at least for the chicken. I ordered the Ddeok-Bokki for lunch and it came out sizzlin' hot! You can definitely burn your tongue with that one. The rice cakes were soft and chewy, and flavor was hot and spicy- just how I like it! It was garnished with some spring onions, sesame seeds, and half an egg. The size of the bowl is deceiving. This place was very odd on Sunday 4pm. We saw someone lying on the table in the corner and sleeping which gave very odd vibe in the store. The two ladies who worked in the front desk did not have a common sense. We ordered two small wings and 30 seconds after paying, we decided to change the sauce. They were trying to figure out on the cashier register and were told that we could not change the sauce on the wings. They could have easily notified the cooks and have them change the sauce and the price was the same. Again, this was right after the order was placed. A couple of the funkier flavors are "maple crunch" and "cheesling." Some people may find themselves more into these flavors than I am; to me maple crunch was just not something I wanted to eat a whole serving of. However I cannot deny that the chicken was well made and flavorful, which is their repuation. Prices are pretty high at Bbq Chicken, and last I was here the place was really set up more for take out than dine in. Glad I finally got a chance to check this place out. The portions were large, and all of the sauces we got to try were wonderful (Gangnam was my favorite). While waiting for my online order, we were also given a sample of the Original Style Chicken to try, which was very kind of the them, and tasted amazing. The Tteokbokki order was a huge portion, two people could get full on it. My little ones love the order of dumplings, and the French fries were still crispy when we got home. Wow! We have a person in our household sensitive to highly spiced food, but when we saw the list of flavors denoted with spice levels, we knew we wanted to try this new-to-our-neighborhood chain. Today was the day we placed the online carry out order for three sets of wings--honey garlic, galibi, and maple crunch--along with a side for sweet potato fries. We live a short distance away, but as with most chicken restaurants, we expected we'd need to rewarm them in the oven. Our designated pickup person headed down about ten minutes after we placed the order. We expected that the order would take the promised 20 minutes. Unfortunately, it was more like 20 after he arrived at the restaurant, more like 40 total. That normally would have been a half star or so off, but considering the quality of the food, this small hiccup was barely a mention after we were done eating. He said that the interior looks great and clean but there was a little problem getting the attention of the staff. If you're new and run into this experience, just hang on, the chicken is well worth the wait! When the food arrived in vented boxes, it was still hot and incredibly crispy, even the pieces that rested in the "extra sauce" we asked for the maple crunch. We all switched off, tasting the offering and all rated each of the flavors a strong 5 star. I've seen Korean chicken skin being referred to as candy, and I get it now! The audible crunch of the crust, and the way the meat was so hot and steamy inside, the sweet flavors melting over the palate, was nothing short of incredible! The slight hint of warmth from the flavors enhanced rather than dominated the coatings. One of our diners is dealing with a very severe medical issue and was unenthusiastic about the very idea of food, but I think she loved these most of all. The fries were a little soggy when we got them home, despite the foil lined bag they were in, but a quick toast in the 350 degree oven brought the crispness right back. Try these not only in the sauces, but any complimentary marinades, dips, or spice blends that might be to your taste. A quick shake of some vanilla powder and smoked salt over them brought out their depth. We stored a few of the chicken pieces after carefully letting extra sauce run off and I'm dying to try them for breakfast! I was disappointed that there are no family meal options or large side options like some other neighboring competitor Korean fried chicken chains have. Just plan to spend a lot of money to get enough food if you're feeding more than two people the sides. The kimchi was only for me and it was delicious but I was disappointed it was such a small portion size. It would have been better if the containers were at least completely filled...I guess bags of chips aren't the only thing being sold half filled with air. Yay, new chicken place! Love Korean style chicken and have been waiting for this one to open. They have a ton of flavors to choose one from and all of them sound delicious. They also offer a couple of Korean dishes and chicken sandwiches! For our first time, we tried the Galbi and the Soy Garlic. The chicken was nice and crunchy and good. The soy garlic is not as flavorful compared to Choong Man or Bonchon, in my opinion. but it is unique and has a different taste that is good. The Galbi was very flavorful and great! will definitely be back to try the other unique flavors. Inside is very clean and modern decor with seating if you wish to dine in.
