I choose the 2 meat platter moist brisket and pulled chicken with fries. I have celiac disease so the dedicated fryer was a plus for me at this restaurant or any Mission barbecue . Stopped by here with my boyfriend after a trip to WV. He got the brisket sandwich and fries while I got Mac and cheese with baked beans and brisket. I also got their vanilla root beer which was amazing and my boyfriend got the sweet tea that he really enjoyed. Does corn bread come with every meal? I never know because I've gone to some locations who give it out in the meal in the past but this one did not, just wondering! This place is outstanding from start to finish! I placed a catering order for 15 guys, and they came in $100 cheaper than Bone BBQ. They also included more at that price, such as cutlery, plates, tongs, napkins, all meats including brisket, pulled chicken, and pulled pork, as well as extra slider rolls and a huge tray of cookies and brownies. These were all things that Bone BBQ did not include (at least not unless you were willing to pay extra). Moreover, the food was delicious! It was also packaged perfectly and ready on time. Everything smelled so good it was definitely difficult to choose what to have first. I had the baby back ribs, Mac n cheese and banana pudding. The Mac n cheese was creamy and filled with cheese, the ribs were so tender they fell off the bone and the banana pudding was sweet and the perfect end to a excellent meal. It's been five years since I've been here (I completely forgot about my first visit) and it's even better than my last review. My husband and I are looking for catering for our baby shower and my SIL recommended Mission BBQ. We ordered the pulled pork and sliced brisket sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, baked beans, and banana pudding. The sliced brisket is to die for! Tender and juicy and full of smoky goodness. The pulled pork was a bit dry but nothing a good barbecue sauce won't fix. Baked beans were the best out of all three sides with the macaroni and cheese just falling short because it was dry. Coleslaw has never been my thing but it was okay for what it was. The banana pudding was heaven - perfect amount of sweetness but still felt like a light dessert. I'm not sure what his name is (I'm assuming he's a manager since he was walking around checking in on tables) but the gentleman that we spoke with yesterday about catering was amazing. Only giving this place two stars because the brisket was okay and the manager was a super nice guy, who gave us a massive tray of free desserts. Why the food was bad: 1. The ribs were so overcooked that lifting them by the bones made the meat just slid off and crumble to the plate. They had no flavor, no final glaze, and absolutely no smoke ring. Of the 10 ribs I got, half were mostly fat. 2. The brisket tasted good, but had no smoke ring either. 3. The pulled pork was moist but it needed a lot of sauce for flavor. 4. The "cold" slaw (their spelling) was dry and need much more dressing. For a chain barbecue joint, I expected what I got, but I was hoping for much more. read more

Mission Barbecue has, like a lot of places, gotten too expensive to be a regular at. In addition, it's not nearly as good as it used to be, especially side dishes. The cole slaw is tasteless, even with salt and pepper. The French fries I received were burned to a crisp. Cashiers were bright and helpful, but otherwise service was uneven at best. My wife and I got the two least expensive sandwiches, with one side each and regular soft drinks. $35 for that is just too much. Probably will not go back without getting a very good deal. read more

If you have ever been to Williamsburg, there is a barbecue restaurant in that area just off route 64 at the Lightfoot exit by the name of Pierce's barbecue, it has been there for many years, They pulled pork sandwich, and the hush puppies, are the best around. I had occasion to go to Mission barbecue today. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich, side, order of baked beans, and coleslaw. The pulled pork had no taste and they serve it on a small regular hamburger roll, the baked beans were overcooked and mushy, the coleslaw had absolutely no taste and was dry., And all of that for $16.85, way overpriced for subpar food.. the main reason I went to Mission barbecue today was because I happen to be in Williamsburg over the weekend and went to Pierce's, and it was so good. But on the spur of the moment, I can walk into mission, and get some good, smokey smoke ring goodness for not too much dough. I'm not sure if the Gainesville location is a franchise, but the owner/manager(?) really seems to care about your experience at his location. I had the good pleasure to enjoy a free brisket sandwich on Veterans Day. The sandwich was packed with lots of great tasting lean brisket. My side of green beans was piping hot. They also treated me to a free fountain drink. The store manager was there at the exit door to open the door and thank me for my service. I returned the sentiment and he asked if I had any pictures or patches I'd like to hang on the wall in their restaurant. It really warmed my heart to to be shown such gratitude and generosity. Pretty good BBQ. The smoked turkey is by far my favorite. Tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The brisket was okay, but I think they use a leaner cut of meat, which I've been told is not as juicy. Also, I'm used to having my brisket sliced and served as strips, so I was a little confused when I was presented with what appeared to be a pile of diced meat chunks instead (Maybe it fell apart that way when cut, or maybe they gave me a portion of what was left over from the brisket that they cut up to include in the baked beans. I don't know.). I was getting ready to send it back, thinking that maybe I grabbed someone else's plate by mistake. Didn't affect the flavor, but it made it a little difficult to stay on my fork. The cornbread was ok. The baked beans were great. Ditto for the mac and cheese. Both of them had a really good, authentic, homemade flavor. If I remember correctly, you have to buy them a la carte. They don't come with the meals. Nevertheless, they are totally worth it. The place could use a nice deep cleaning. Our table was a bit sticky and the wall beside our booth had old barbecue sauce on the walls... some a good 2 or 3 feet above our heads in some spots. It's tough to find good barbecue in this area. Of the 6 we tried I liked Memphis belle the most & my daughter liked Smokey mountain. The Mac&cheese was really good but the fries were just ok. Their sweet tea was some of the best I've had.
