Believe all the hype--this is another level above Bon Chon franchise for Korean Fried Chicken! We tried the Red Hot and the Garlic Spicy wings. The 2 orders would feed 4 people or 2 very hungry large appetites. We ordered the specialty Truffled Parmesan Fries as well. All were OUTSTANDING. The crispy light crunch was the most unique and amazing part about the wings--not sure how they did it as I've been to many fried chicken joints and never have I had this type of crunch. The Red Hot was very spicy, as I consider Tobasco sauce barely spicy, to give you a gauge. It was very balanced in flavor and was great to balance out the sweet-less spicy combo of the other sauce. TL;DR: Who doesn't like some Korean Fried Chicken? I've had other CM locations before, but I think this one is my favorite by far! It's newer, so it isn't as busy, but the service is the friendliest and most attentive I've had... at any Korean chicken place ever. The servers are always nice and make great recommendations FOOD: Snow chicken: what they're pretty much known for. So good. They top your choice of wings, whole chicken, or tenders with this delicious sauce and raw onions on top of that. Some how, the chicken stays nice and crispy, even with all the sauce. SO GOOD Waffle fries: My favorite waffle fries! So nice and crispy, but not greasy Soy Garlic calamari: the server recommended this to me, and I did not expect it to be as good as it was lol (Sorry for doubting you). I have tried Korean Fried chicken at other places like bonchon etc, but CM chicken is by far the best. Went back to restaurant after the grand opening I ordered my usual food, which was garlic spicy tenders with coleslaw and fries. When I got there to receive my order I was met with an amazing staff, they were so eager and happy to help me with my pickup ALSO they are doing a 25% this whole month which is just the cherry on top. The interior was also revamped and it looked really eye popping. If i had more time I would honestly sit down and enjoy my food they also added new items to the menu like a fried chicken sandwich topped with coleslaw that I have to go back and try. When I received the food I noticed that the packaging was different. It was way nicer than before it was in a sturdier box no leaks or spills and the food looked amazing, the fries were filled to the brim and coleslaw tasted so fresh everything was all well put together 5/5 for taste. At the end of the day one of my favorites food places is back and better than ever, I wish them the best and will continue to support this business for years to come. read more

First Impression - AMAZING!!!! GO NOW!!!! A few of us from the office came here for work on a weekday and they weren't very busy with dine-ins, but seemed to have a steady take-out business going. The place is very nicely decorated, very clean and the manager was very helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating! He did an excellent job describing everything on the menu, especially their Tikkudak style. Tikkudak is where they fry up the chicken and then season it with the sauce you request and then smoke it. Imagine, a smoked fried chicken?!?! We just HAD to try that and we were GLAD we did - it was truly amazing! Then, he brought us some Snow Onion Chicken... this is chicken tenders fried and cut up and then put on a bed of sauce created from slicing sweet onions and mixing them with cold water, creating an amazing sweet white "oniony" sauce. This was very interesting and unique - I really enjoyed it! Their "Hot" style chicken sauce was pretty spicy, but far from being too spicy for my liking. We all enjoyed it. The heat comes from the gochujang pepper. It's got a very nice flavor and palatable heat and it worked great on their chicken legs, which they slice the meat on before seasoning, to let the seasonings sink in more. All of their chicken was not only very flavorful, but also very tender and moist. Definitely not over-fried or too crunchy. Their basket of fries are large enough to share between a few people and their truffle parmesan fries were perfectly seasoned and very tasty! I really liked their ole slaw, it has a nice flavor to it, perfect crunch and is a vinegar-based slaw, so it's somewhat healthier than the mayo-stuff, but just as good. My husband and I got takeout for lunch here, and came back with the rest of the family for dinner.What sets this location of Choongman chicken apart from the others is that they also have sushi and korean-chinese dishes. We tried the soy garlic chicken wings, and they were bomb. Would 100% come back for just those. Crispy, tender, juicy, and flavorful. We also had their lolipop chicken which was really good too. For dinner, we ate black bean noodles(jjajangmyun), fried dumplings, and spicy seafood noodles soup(jjamppong). The fried dumplings were really crispy and good. The spicy seafood noodle soup was probably my favorite out of the 3 things we ordered. Service was slow, but it seemed like there was only one person running the front of the restaurant. Tucked away in a little shopping center. I called in an order and the lady on the phone was extremely nice. Very sweet. I ordered the Red Hot Pepper Chicken. It was hot without being overbearing, with sweetness to cut through the spiciness. I got an order to go on a weekday afternoon, and it was ready very quick. If you're in Gainesville and love fried chicken, go to Choong Man Chicken. They recently opened, and they are great (food and service)! If you've had Pelicana in Annandale, the fried chicken is pretty similar. It's like Popeyes, but wayyyy better! Not as greasy, but just as delicious. They have flavors that you can add, such as garlic soy and spicy. Don't underestimate the spicy... it's pretty hot! Even the regular fried chicken has a bit of heat on it's own, but it's definitely manageable. The chicken comes with a good amount of meat and isn't overloaded with breading on the outside. If you like Korean BBQ, try the tikkuduk wings! They are cooked over charcoal, so they have a smoky flavor. The soy garlic tikkuduk wings taste just like kalbi (marinated short ribs), but in chicken form and isn't as expensive. Yum! If you like onions, order the Snow Onion Chicken. It is boneless chicken pieces topped with onions and sauce. So good! Finally, the service is great! Worth it: I was so excited to see that this place had opened, but it took me a while to finally come. I am so glad that I did. Food was good! I got the garlic spicy chicken. My complaint is that the chicken was too sweet and I wanted my wings more crispy. Perhaps, there was too much sauce (there was a ton left in my box after I had finished my wings). I am very familiar with Korean fried chicken, and I think this is the sweetest that I have ever had. However, my chicken was perfectly spicy and came out hot. I can't wait to go back and try more items from the menu. The chicken came with pickled radish. Food Presentation: My chicken was wrapped in aluminum and in a paper box with the logo on it. Drinks were displayed behind the bar, as well as in a viewable case! They also had tons of Korean drinks to choose from, which was so nice to see. Ambiance:  This place was fairly empty when I came in, so there was tons of seating. The place is fairly dim, walls are red, and is very well kept. The soccer game was playing behind the bar without volume. Service: When I came in, two people greeted me. In fact, I  spoke with them my entire wait while sitting at the bar. Choong Man recently opened in Gainesville and it is delicious! The chicken pieces are huge and flavored really well. I have been here several times and we usually get the garlic soy and curry flavors. I have also gotten the regular fried chicken and it's also delicious. The skin was the right amount of cripsy, and in my opinion, the best part about fried chicken. The staff are all very friendly, super chill, and professional at the same time. The prices are very reasonable. Huge portion size and I usually can't finish in one night. If you really want the best bang for your buck, the lunch special is $8 and comes with chicken, drink, coleslaw, and a side. They also have $1 wings during happy hour. Another great thing is that they are opened super late! Most food places are closed in the area by 9 or 10pm, but Choong Man is always available for that late night meal. read more

I have not been to the other locations in a while so this was a fun little taste adventure. Spicy garlic had a slight kick for me (was hoping for more face kicking spice, will be trying their more spicy options soon), but more on the salty side but really delicious. Curly fries were just the regular cosco bought fries. They gave a whole box full. Radish was awesome! Inside was very dark, plenty of seating inside. Guy behind the counter was super chill and nice. I noticed the fries could use some salt. I went to the counter to ask. The Manager assumed that I didn't leave a tip and was hesitant to give me salt after I placed an order for take out!! He was annoyed that I opened my meal and checked to see if the fries were salted. Several issues: 1. He didn't see me eat any food. 2. He assumed that I didn't leave a tip. Instead, he told me about their policy (and pointed to the sign) of not eating in the restaurant after ordering take out. I have no issue with the policy. I have an issue with a manager making baseless assumptions rather than asking. Do better. Your reputation is not worth it. I won't be back. Two stars because he wasn't rude. Heck yea I'm a fan. Its something different to the local area. We went in on a Friday evening with no idea what we were doing. The staff were attentive, but we were just a little confused on exactly what we were ordering. We don't eat that much, so I didn't want that many wings. Regardless of what we expressed, we ended up getting the order messed up. Either way, the chicken wings (in fact everything) we got was excellent. The place is small and has some charm to it. We splurged a bit and got more than we could eat and ended up giving it to our son. Next time we know better. It is definitely on the "return" list to visit again. Soooooo good! My first time having Korean fried chicken and it was amazing! The employee, Andy who assisted us order was so helpful. We weren't sure what to get but he helped us make a decision and explained the flavors of everything so well. He made sure we had everything we needed for our to go order. He was just great and I appreciate wonderful customer service! The flavor of the sauces on the wings and gizzards had a lot of depth and spice. I was so excited to try this place because we always order from Bonchon. This place was not good, I ordered the soy sauce drumsticks and the regular fried chicken. The chicken was not crispy at all and the regular fried chicken was bland. The soy sauce flavor was alright but it was not crispy at all, it was soggy. If based on the food alone I would give 4 stars, however I cannot overlook the state of the dining area and the overall feel of the establishment. We entered and right away weren't sure if we needed to sit ourselves, we eventually did and also ended up grabbing menus from the counter. There are approximately ten tables of which half are useable. The rest are cluttered under restaurant supplies or surrounded by beer kegs. It's pretty much chaos. We were instructed to order our meals at the counter and retrieve our beverages. The entire floor could be heard sticking to the soles of shoes anytime someone walked across it and you could actually see the spill stains littering the floor. The beverage station is tucked away in the back but the cups felt greasy to the touch, I opted to use a disposable cup. That said, the chicken is very good, wings are large and crispy, the flavors all hit, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time considering two tables ordered just before us. First time and this Choong Man Chicken. I've been to all the other locations in NoVa but I think this one and the Centreville one are my favorite. The food was great. When I go to any CM I always order the snow onion chicken tenders and I'm glad this location didn't skimp on the sauce like other CM do. I also usually get the curly fries but my friend recommended the truffle fries and omg it was delicious. Still don't know if I like those or the curly fries better though. The staff working there were really friendly and attentive. I didn't have to ask for refills as the server was on top of everything. I think this CM might be one of the bigger ones. They had a good amount of seating and it wasn't crazy busy.
