2024 Pro Camp with Michael Cooper

Our son has been with the Bballers Hoops School going on 3 seasons now & he LOVES it! The leagues are very organized & structured. The staff & coaches are amazing with the kiddos, beginners & those looking to improve their game. I've seen growth in all aspects of my son's basketball skills since starting with the Bballers. They offer additional training & camps during & between leagues. So if you're in search of a basketball league for your kiddo(s) to join, most definitely check out the Bballers Hoops School. One of the best around!

    Game time!

B Ballers is an excellent organization. My son has been with them for 4 years and has fallen in love with basketball. But more importantly he has gained confidence, leadership, sportsmanship and responsibility.

BBallers Hoops is an excellent place for your little basketball lover to grow and develop their skills. Our son was self taught before coming to bballers and had very little experience playing on a team. After his time at bballers, he learned how to play on a team and sharpened his skills. Unfortunately we moved out of the county, but thanks to what he learned at bballers, he was able to score a spot on both his middle school team and a highly competitive AAU team. Our family highly recommends this program!! Shout out to Coach Von, Coach Greg, Coach T and Coach TJ!

Ask the Community - BBallers Hoops School

Does the program emphasize all around skills or is there an option to emphasize more big (little) man fundamentals? My son is 9 but above average height. He needs refinement of overall skills, w/ an emphasis on post play/Defense/rebounding/boxing out

Our program specializes in fundamentals including boxing out, rebounds and footwork! The Hoop School program is the class that I would recommend. We also have teams with 10 years old players and the coaches are very knowledgeable.

Do you offer camps for a 16 year old girl who is a beginner basketball player? If not, can you recommend one in South Bay? Thanks

My daughter is 2 1/2 but as tall as a 3/4 year old not sure if that matters but would I be able to start training her or would I have to wait till she is three to start here?

We have a class called Little Ballers for ages 3 and 4 so you should bring her to try it out?

It surprised me how naturally the park gave off that youthful atmosphere without trying too hard. The open spaces and colorful areas almost felt like spots made for taking pictures, and they did not cost anything to enjoy, which makes them perfect for teenagers who like hanging out and being creative. It was my first time at Whaley Park, and I did not realize how much there was to enjoy until I walked around. I appreciated how easy it was to relax there without feeling rushed or crowded, even with all the teens playing games, taking photos, and talking with each other. Some parts of the park looked a little older or worn down, which is part of why I am giving it four stars instead of five, but nothing took away from the overall experience. I never doubted that the visit would turn out the way I hoped it would. I have only visited Whaley Park once before writing this review, but it ended up being one of the more enjoyable and energetic parks I have been to in a long time. I would highly recommend that teenagers go there because they would love the open spaces, the sports areas, the photo spots, and the creative vibe. It gives them a place to have fun, take pictures, and feel inspired in a simple and playful environment.

Assuming this is all part of the Drake Park proper, but it took a little intuition to find the entrance for our first visit. And still, the parking lot is small, filled with litter, human waste, and lots of broken auto glass... And it's about a 200 yard walk to the entrance of the artificial turf soccer field. Much of the human detritus in the parking lot is likely attributed to the considerable homeless population that is evident in the immediate area: dozens of people were camped out just across the street, in the dirt lot area adjacent to the river channel. That same dirt lot is variably covered with piles of demolition construction materials haphazardly dumped by who knows who? In pure defiance of posted signs prohibiting dumping. Other "unhoused Angelinos" seem to be wandering about the park, utilizing senses beyond my standard five (sight, smell, taste, hearing, and feeling) to experience things I can only imagine.... and a couple had set up camp in the park's landscaping adjacent to the walking path. Not so much unsafe as much as unsanitary This part of the park features what appears to be some kind of community garden - - locked and secured behind 10 foot chain-link fences. there is a public park restroom with only 2 of the 8 single seater stalls unlocked, and both are horrific inside. Some beautiful wall murals are marred by tagging. Much of the park here is adjacent to industrial yards, and most of the bordering landscape is littered with garbage. The soccer field is actually quite beautiful: artificial turf field with a perimeter fence. I laughed a little bit at the idea that this was a "green belt" and the soccer field was artificial turf... But there is certainly some actual real grass field in this park, and some California native plants along the periphery. So I guess that counts in the midst of This residential-industrial interface. The air was pretty heavy with the smell of oil refinery and low tide from the nearby river channel, which was probably a bigger deal to the soccer players than it was to me as a spectator. A generous three stars for the really nice soccer field and the fact that my truck windows weren't added to the considerable collection of broken auto window glass on the ground in the parking lot. My only other Long Beach Park frame of reference is Bluff Park, so I can confidently say this is nicer.... relative, though, that comparison is...

Not only because it has a recreation center, but also because its one of the parks the city maintains fairly well. My other favs in the city are El Dorado East, Wardlow Park, Whaley Park, and Los Cerritos. I'm usually at this park at least several times a week, and enjoy seeing people getting out and being active. PROS: - Clustered together are the basketball courts, baseball field, recreation center, and the restrooms. This makes it ideal to keep an eye on children who may wander off and play in different areas. - Nicely separated cement picnic tables. These are scattered throughout the park, with ample room for parties of various sizes. No reservations, and it's first come, first serve. Seen this past Memorial Day got people up and out bright and early to post up and claim a spot. - Flat grassy open space in about three large areas of the park. People will usually set up for volleyball, soccer, flag football, practice area, etc.. - Parking is abundant. Steans Park has two parking lots, but there's also a lot of street parking. - Jacaranda trees! I love these trees with the purple sappy flowers, as long as I'm not subjected to park my car under it. Jacarandas line the 23rd Street side of the park. Beautiful when they are in bloom and flowers fall with the wind. CONS: - Lots of dog owners and their fur babies come through here. Beware that not all dog owners are responsible pet owners who pick up after their pooch. Some of these nasty @ss people leave turds on the grass. Hence, why I don't walk on the grass here. - As an addendum to the above point, also beware that not all dog owners have their dogs on a leash in the park, even though City ordinance does demand it. - Muddy mess. Sometimes this park gets overwatered and the grassy area is super muddy. Easy to slip and fall in the mud or even get your shoe caught up in it. - Trash receptacles are lacking in the south side of the park. There used to be at least one on the Stearns St. side, but since it's been gone, some half-brained pet owner has been tossing bagged poop at the base of the trees.
