Smoked turkey is outstanding and the BBQ ranch dressing for the salads is uniquely wonderful. Smoked wings do not need sauce. Delicious as is. Burnt ends, pulled pork, cornbread are very good. I had the half slab baby back ribs, smoked wings and smoked gouda Mac n cheese. Every thing was so good! Best smoked wings in Chicago area, especially with their white sauce which tastes like a garlicky-horseradishy ranch sauce. Ribs were fall off the bone and sweet with the maple chipotle sauce. The place has some outdoor tables, sports bar area with nice tvs, and decent beer selection. The only issue is it is too close to my house and I cannot resist good bbq One thing I forgot to mention is currently they don't have burnt ends if you are in to that, but hopefully soon it will be on the menu! read more

I expected a lot better, but I didn't get it. It was a bit expensive, but the portions we're about right. Good cornbread and turkey, but I've had better ribs, chicken and brisket back in my home town. I won't come back and I don't suggest anyone stop until their prices drop 10%. My kids even thought their kids meals weren't great, and they like everything. After reflecting, I'm even less impressed. My turkey platter was $15 for 10oz. I could have gotten a 5oz sandwich for $10, no other difference. That's $1 per ounce or $16 per pound. Turkey usually sells for less than $2 a pound retail. I know the breast is more expensive, but wholesale meat prices are less than retail. It goes to show you, anyone can buy a large smoker and claim to know BBQ. Knowing the science of meat isn't for amateurs and I think amateurs should try harder. read more

Don't let the outside fool you, as this restaurant is in the strip mall. The huge neon sign though should give you an indication of what the inside is like. Very lively and bar like. There is an entire row of TVs across the top of the full length bar. The seating is a mix of high tables, low tables and counter style seating. We were seated promptly and a waitress came and took our drink orders. We were a little concerned because the couple behind us was complaining about the wait time on their order. We hadn't ordered yet and they were making me kind of nervous that we were going to be waiting a long time for our food and we were very hungry. I asked the lady, but she told us she thought their waiter was bad, but that our waitress was very good. She told us they were regulars and the food was very good, worth the wait. So we went ahead and ordered and were pleasantly surprised. Our food was finished within five minutes!! No kidding!! We could not believe it. And the couple behind us literally got their food right after I asked them about their experience. The regulars were right! Food was worth the wait and our waitress was fantastic. Fast, friendly and quick with the refills, which is important to me. We ordered the 10oz pulled pork with cole slaw and the beef brisket with baked beans. Also ordered a side of cornbread. Let me start by saying that I don't really too spicy. The beans had a bit of a kick, with a variety of beans in it (the big white beans. It had good flavor, but too spicy for me. The cole slaw was very creamy, flavorful and wet - I don't like a really dry cole slaw unless it has vinegar in it. The corn bread was very odd. It was in the shape of circular patty and tasted almost like a soufflé, but it tasted almost like it wasn't cooked thoroughly. Not a fan. The meat was UH-MAZING. The pulled pork, however it was cooked/marinated, was oh so good, even without the sauce. Very flavorful and tender. It was truly special and one of the best meats BBQ meats I have ever had. The brisket was tender and flavorful as well. There were several sauces: IBC root beer, Maple Chipotle, Alabama White, Chicago Sweet & Spciy, Sam Adams Boston Lager, Alabama White and Carolina Vinegar. The Carolina Vinegar was a tangy vinegar barbecue flavor. The IBC was sweet and did not have an overpowering root beer flavor which I thought it might. It was very good. The Maple Chipotle was not overpowering maple and had just a little bit of heat. I always lean towards the vinegar ones, but they were all amazing. Husband's favorite was the Sam Adams Boston Lager which was also amazing. We will definitely be going back there when in the area, and maybe during a road trip. This was one of the best experiences of my vacation in Chicago. If you are a die hard BBQ lover, this needs to be a spot on your list of pits to visit if you're ever in the Gurnee or Chicago Midway area. It's also not very far from Gurnee's Six Flags Great America. Our waiter, Nate, was energetic and provided great guidance of what to order as a first-time guest. Mary, sweetheart, also stopped by to chat with us for a bit and made a great suggestion on the spicy bloody Mary, which was purest of perfection. Nate suggested the sampler platter which included most of their smoked meat options. They were all good but our favorites were the burnt ends sent from Jesus' bosom as well as the brisket, dinosaur bone, turkey, pulled pork, sausage! Hmmmm, did I just list all of them? Yea I did because we were in hog & cow heaven. Food was BANGIN!!!!!! For side items, we had the bbq macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and the baked beans - all excellent but the macaroni and cheese stood out the most. Everything you've heard is 100% true and then some!!!! So much so that we went back the next day for lunch :-) Nate waited on us again and the food was still delicious, though the burnt ends were not as moist as the night before. We had blended burgers (angus & short rib - one of those had pork on top and two had burnt ends)....so good. We also have more of the macaroni and cheese and tried the fries this time which were crispy and delicious. Now the sauces are an experiene of their own ... they have IBC root beer, house maple chipotle, Alabama white, Carolina vinegar, Chicago sweet and spicy and finally, Sam Adams Boston lager. Our absolute favorite was the house maple chipotle but I really loved the IBC root beer and a bit of the Alabama white all mixed together. These barbecue sauces are thick like I like them, and the only one that I did not try was the Carolina vinegar as I don't like vinegar-based barbecue sauces. We also ordered a couple of desserts during lunch because we were too full the night before to order what we had planned. We got the cookie explosion & bread pudding. Both were divine & not a bite remained. I will be having night sweats about this barbecue joint like a crack addict being weaned off. Should the opportunity arise to return, I will not hesitate. I asked them if they could ship the burnt ends to Atlanta but they said no as they could not guarantee the quality, which I understand. But like Arnold, I'll be back!!!! The yelp description for 2 stars says it all...meh, I've had better. Way better. I have been to the third lake location 4 times in the last year and have been disappointed each time. Service is good and friendly but the BBQ is just really sub par. 3/4 times my food arrived cold and the meat was fairly tough. Burnt ends were ALL fat, absolutely no meat at all, couldn't eat more than a piece or two without feeling ill...I know it is the fattiest meat cut to order but I expect better. Really wanted to like this place since it is nearby and gets good reviews but I will go elsewhere for BBQ. read more

Ordered the nachos with everything on them. Was really excited about them because we ordered burnt ends on them with their smoked fiesta corn. The only thing good about these nachos were the actual chips. They say smoke Gouda is used but we can tell that wasn't it. Burnt ends barely tasted like brisket. Had a weird texture and definitely wasn't burnt. More than likely never touched a smoker or grill. Smoked corn was a can of kernel corn that had no flavor. Also ordered the salmon Cajun blackened dinner and it had no spice and wasnt blackened much. This is a critical review because I feel it wasn't just bad luck to have a certain waiter or certain bad night. If they are regularly putting these dishes out without even coming close to what's expected, there's a problem. We've ordered just the bbq in the past and we thought it was ok. Went to BBQ productions this week as I was in the area for work. This is a great place! Food was really good! I got the pulled pork and brisket with the mac and cheese and the BBQ beans. Everything came out really fast as well! The food comes without sauce which is how it should be as they have many different sauces at the table that you can put on the food. My favorites were the Samuel Adams and the Root Beer Sauces. The beer selection was pretty good as well. I got the Wild Onion Misfit IPA which was excellent. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely go back! read more
