I've honestly never had the best experiences here in the past, but this visit completely changed that -- especially now that I'm a member. I brought my best friend to try some wines and figure out what she likes, and it turned into such a great time. Bailey was such a sweetheart! Her energy really made the whole experience feel welcoming and fun. After our tasting, we were able to get a table right away, which worked out perfectly since we wanted to stay and eat. Meh. I've been to one of these before and someone thought it would be nice to get us a gift card here because of our home wine collection. The place is always absolutely slammed from the tasting counter to the back. I just don't get the hype. It's a restaurant that has 50 private label wines and a "club". Is this "club" some sort of trendy status? Anyway, server was a pro. Appetizers were an orange chicken tasting calamari plate and a 5 mini meatball pan. Both were pretty good. Entrees were big and the menu is pretty large. Food was overall decent but a bit pricey. The wines are not very good. The "Lux" level are decent, but you are pushing $15 a glass to get there. I just don't get it. This place is also really loud. You can't have any type of conversation without shouting at each other. It's louder than a Texas Roadhouse. I spent my night leaning over to hear the person next to me and I was the messenger when people across the table wanted to talk to each other. Thank you for the gift card. Salad and main course were either okay or not great. Pretzel was warm, soft and fluffy in the middle, and a bit crispy/firm on the outside. One of the best pretzel bread for sure. The seafood bisque has little crab or lobster. Shrimp was tiny, but I had a handful in the bowl. Overall, flavor was good although lacking lobster or crab flavor. Salad was okay. Short rib was disappointing mostly because the meat was dry. Vegetables on the side were too crunchy. Egg roll was okay. Sweet Chili Calamari (6.5/10): very very batter heavy. Squid tasted fine. The bottom of the dish was soggy and sauce heavy. Also not sure why a soggy over-sauced dish has to come with more sauce. Burrata flatbread (7/10): pretty solid flatbread. No complaints, but it also didn't wow me. Drunken shrimp (7/10): great shrimp. Way better than the shrimp in my wife's risotto. The way the bottom of the dish was covered in congealed butter seemed a bit pedestrian and borderline gross. Pretzel bread (8/10): solid bread. Came out nice and warm and fluffy on the inside. Lobster bisque (7/10): I do not want to know how much butter went into this. It was pretty good and had decent amounts of seafood. It was also a little too salty and heavy. I would stick with the cup and not the bowl. Short rib risotto (6.5/10): the red wine sauce was pretty good, but the meat was very dry. Risotto was good as well. The food was probably a 7/10 overall while the value and service were 3/10. Service was unbelievably slow. We had to wait very long amounts of time to order, get water, ask for the check, etc. It took a lot of effort to flag down our waitress as well. Came here for Thanksgiving and was seated at the time of my reservation so I didn't have to wait much. I liked the ambiance of the restaurant as it has a modern and classy vibe. Our waitress was nice and patient. I love that the menu is wine forward; there are so many different options. I'm rating the overall experience as 3 stars because of the quality of the food. For a restaurant that's considered to be more upscale, I would expect better plating. The chicken giardiniera for example, looked like it had been microwaved since the juices were splattered all over the plate. The pie was undercooked. They even left it in the pan because the crust wasn't cooked enough to hold its form. I appreciated that the dessert was comped but quality control should matter more in a restaurant like this. We have been to this CH location, as well as others, several times. We're getting to the point that our visits are really hit-or-miss. For this visit, we made reservations for early on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was not too busy at that point. Many tables empty, despite a busy wine tasting bar as we entered. We ordered a Bloody Mary and a non-alcoholic peach drink. Both were good. We also ordered a sausage and burrata flatbread that was also pretty good. For dinner, one of us had the chicken piccata--it had three large portions of chicken that were visible when the dish was served. It also tasted fresh with lemon and capers. One of us had the shrimp scampi. It was disappointing in the preparation and in the amount of shrimp included for the price. One of us ordered the chicken cilantro ranch sandwich, which is a favorite, repeated order, especially due to the ranch sauce. In this case, the sauce was way too salty, and the chicken was so small, it appeared as if a grilled nugget was smashed into the bun, instead of a chicken breast. The chicken literally covered maybe 30% of the bun and couldn't be found unless completely taking the top bun off of the sandwich. There also was hardly any avocado on the sandwich. Given the price of the sandwich and fries, this was unacceptable. We brought this to our server's attention, and she remedied the situation quickly by bringing extra chicken. We appreciated this, as well as her pleasant attitude. We noticed another review about the complementary pretzel bread being forgotten - we had to ask for ours. We also were brought an ice cold cup of coffee when requesting a second cup at the end of dinner. We ended up tipping well, despite the issues through the meal, because the server was really pleasant throughout and working hard. Maybe the kitchen was having an off night, but we've had hit-or-miss experiences here before. For the price of this meal, we really are questioning returning any time soon. read more

I couldn't wait to take my mom to Cooper's Hawk for her birthday so she could try all of my favorites. We went on a Friday with family around 4pm, and even though we had reservations, the restaurant was pretty empty, so we were able to be seated right away. This was my first time at this location and the ambiance was warm and inviting. Since we're both huge wine lovers, she started with the wine decanter experience. We chose the Cabernet Sauvignon, my favorite, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. We started with a few appetizers to share; the House-Made Meatballs, Four Cheese Truffle Arancini, Smashed & Shaved Prime Sliders and Crispy Brussels Sprouts. For her entrée, I had her go with the Braised Short Ribs. Everything was absolutely phenomenal. The flavors were on point, and my mom couldn't stop raving about the Short Ribs and Brussels Sprouts. For her birthday treat, she was given a Dark Chocolate Truffle & a White Chocolate Truffle, which was very nice! Our server was super friendly and even though he was new, he did a wonderful job making sure our experience was enjoyable from start to finish. Dined here yesterday for a late lunch. Got seated near the bar area. Server (Coco) was not great. She would walk away before you could finish your sentence. Despite not being busy, service was slow. I ordered the skirt steak bowl which was awful. Portion size was so small and everything in that bowl was tangy. That's all you could taste. $24 for lackluster food and I was still hungry. Food wasn't hot either. My husband ordered off of the brunch menu. The meat was grisly, oily and very salty. I feel like this location is the worst of all of them in terms of service and quality/quantity of food. The hostess in front that seated us seemed miserable too. Since we moved up here, we've been trying to enjoy more of what's closer to us as we unpack and get the house situated. We ordered take out since it was more convenient and the food was ready pretty quickly. Upon picking up we were able to just walk into the tasting area and they were able to assist us quickly. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer which has a sweet chili take and sauce on the side. The portion was great for the pricing but definitely needs to be eaten right away to enjoy the full crispy. For my entree I got the short rib risotto, a classic. The flavors were great and the portions was enough to share. We also got the bread, which came with the butter. I did wish the bread was warm but it was actually cold, maybe from transport but we popped it in the microwave to just heat it up a little. Friends have been telling me about this place for days so I figured I'd give it a try as I was in town for work. Made a reservation for myself and was seated promptly upon arrival. The place is aesthetically pleasing and the wine selection is huge. Danielle/Dani - my server was very kind, attentive and made sure I was very well informed as well as answered all of my questions. Stopped by during a business trip at the recommendation of a local colleague and was highly satisfied. We tried their PB&J Old Fashioned with delicious results of the two-glass concoction. The waiter was extremely friendly and attentive to our group. The complimentary pretzel bread was enjoyable. Came here for dinner on Christmas eve. Glad we made reservations, as we were seated promptly in a booth that we requested. The place is clean, polished, and feels like a real upscale eatery (which it is). I was in the mood for something light and asked our server about the bbq ranch chicken salad. It sounded delicious and there's even a "lower calorie" version on the "Life Balance" section of the menu. I asked about the difference between the main menu version of the bbq ranch chicken salad and the "lower calorie" version. Our server insisted that they are identical, except that the "lower calorie" version just has the dressing on the side. So that's what I ordered. However, I subsequently found that was not the case when my food arrived. The version of the bbq ranch chicken salad on the "Life Balance" section of the menu is very different. The menu lists this lighter salad as having "Sweet BBQ-Glazed Chicken, Romaine, Grape Tomatoes, Aged White Cheddar, Avocado, Sweet Corn, Black Beans, Cilantro, Chipotle BBQ Ranch". However this "lighter" version of the salad was missing several of those ingredients. There were no black beans, no Cilantro, and the other elements were very sparse. Despite what our server told us, it was not identical to the version on the main menu. That version includes bacon, tortilla strips and onion strings. Bottom line is that our server was undereducated on the menu and mislead me on this matter. For that reason, it slightly soured my experience. The salad itself was fine, but I felt misled and would have ordered something else had I been properly informed about the difference between the regular salad and the "Life Balance" version. read more

Our server Gayge was slow. I believe he was doing his best. The servers have too many duties. Bussing and cleaning tables along with serving. This causes "SLOW" customer service. Loved our time here today! Came in here with my mom, boyfriend and daughter. We came in here just to have drinks and started off with the hot red holiday wine. It was good -- a little sweet but not overbearing and a nice drink for the cold weather. I also had an espresso martini. They made it with absolute vanilla and baileys and it actually came out as a frosty drink. It was served with espresso beans and a little whipped cream. We got chicken tenders for my daughter. It comes with French fries and a side of mixed fruit. Service was good! This is a lovely restaurant that also offers wine tastings -- they have a whole bar you can do your tastings at and a tasting room with beautiful decanters. Had Easter Dinner with a family of five with one child. Dinner was at 5PM and We didn't receive our dinner until 6:15 It appears they were not organizing. When dinner finally arrived my Opinion it was not prepared and The salad I had looked like the lettuce Was old and wilted. You would think with a young child waiting for over an hour was not acceptable. The experience was less than enjoyable. Overall the wait was way too long and it appeared they really didn't care . Though Coopers Hawk originated in Orland Park, IL and now has over 50 locations, this Gurnee, IL location is fairly new to the area. The Gurnee CH opened in November of 2022. Facility offers services to include: dine-in, carry-out, wine club/tastings, private events, and catering. Food: Lots more options than I thought! Appetizers, soups, seafood, salads, burgers & sandwiches, lunch specials, and more. Personally, I've tasted the 'over the border' egg rolls which remind me of the egg rolls on the appetizer menu at Cheesecake Factory, the peach sangria was great, and 'Ellie's Chicken Piccata' which was good. Wine/ Cocktails: There's something for everyone to drink, even the non-drinkers! - There are over 50 wine selections (and they have a wine club that comes at a monthly cost for anyone interested. The wine club includes wine tasting events and more) - Speciality cocktails, mock-tails, various sangrias, martini's, beer, and more. Service: Eh... here's the part that seems to lack consistency at this particular CH location. After a year of being open, this location still seems to be working out staffing issues (like lots of other service industry businesses right now). My first experience was okay. The place was packed on my second visit with my husband. We were informed that there weren't any tables available; however, high top tables in the bar area are 'first come, first served' so we seated ourselves at a high-top table. Both times we did not have a reservation, so I'm grateful that we were served in a timely manner. Value: approx $35 PP. One must keep in mind that the companies website does note that it is a 'fine dining establishment' for wine lovers and 'luxury dining fans'. I was on my way home after some Christmas shopping & stopped in to check out this location that has been open for awhile. I thought I might have ordered food in the bar, the restaurant was packed with a wait. I was lucky to find a seat at the bar. A server did greet me promptly but I was taken aback when she asked "Is there 1 or 2?". There was no one standing near me. I took that as, "You're only one person tieing up my bar stool?" I was sitting next to another empty bar stool. I got a vibe of agressiveness. I ordered one beer, drank it and left. I won't be back even though the restaurant seemed to be doing very well and the servers must be enjoying the traffic as well.
