Placed a reservation for 7pm on Valentine's Day a week in advance. When we arrived, we were snarkily told by the hosts that it would be a 30 minute wait, because they had so many reservations. What is the point of a reservation if you aren't reserving a table? I completely understand a 5-10 minute wait. However, It should not be on the customer if you overbooked reservations. I'm a frequent guest at The Lakehouse and have always enjoyed coming here, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. On Sunday, I visited and ended up waiting about 20 minutes due to new staff training. I understand training is necessary, but the situation felt disorganized and unfortunately reflected poorly on the restaurant overall. Then on Monday, I returned around 7:00 PM and was turned away entirely, which was frustrating--especially as a regular customer who makes a point to support this place. There was no clear explanation or effort to accommodate, and it left me feeling unwelcome. I've had many good experiences here in the past, so I hope this was just an off couple of days. Food was not good, everything was over cooked including the pasta - gooey mess. I got the pork chop special and it was dry as a desert. My wife got the halibut and it was rubbery and dry. Also they do not know how to make a good cocktail. Asked for an old fashioned and it was a muddled mess. I asked the waitress for a classic old fashioned - bourbon, sugar, bitters and she said that wasn't an old fashioned. Her explanation was "in all of the US old fashioneds are made by muddling oranges and fake cherries" - what are you talking about!?!? My husband and I are long time customers of this restaurant. They consistently have delicious foods to choose from. But recently, we've noticed their prices have inched up quite a bit compared to their competition. We enjoyed a nice dinner last night. We ordered a Caesar salad to go but when I got the Caesar salad home, there was no Caesar salad dressing, which is the whole point of the salad. Also the portion size was quite small for a $19 salad! Needless to say I didn't drive all the way back to the restaurant. That was very disappointing. I hope they will be more careful in filling to-go orders and reevaluate their pricing so that we can afford to visit more often. read more

Service was very good - the gentleman helping us was prompt, clear, helpful, and not overbearing/hovering. Easily the best part of the experience. Food - forgettable and overpriced. Burger was cooked to temp but bland, which doesn't work on a near $20 burger. This sandwich loses to O'Tooles seven-day chicken brine sandwich just five minutes away and several dollars cheaper. But beyond that, the menu is weird. Tons of chicken options, sandwiches, and...tacos and fajitas? Pasta? Steakhouse cuts? The menu has no idea what sort of restaurant it wants to be. And while what we ate was passable (it won't make you sick), there's just nothing about it making me want to repeat the experience. Ambiance - very, very strange. It says LakeHouse, but has a variety of odd forms of memorabilia. Christmas lights strewn all over, yet a fireplace going in the center? And it is SO dark - the Tiffany lampshades do not work with LED bulbs, missing the entire point of those. It reminds me of the creepy "House on the Rock" museum, say if that guy opened a restaurant, this would be it. Final thoughts - forgettable dining that just doesn't feel relevant today. Culver's and/or three quarters of the Mexican restaurants in Round Lake make better everything than this place, so go there instead. read more

I had a Smashburger I had my wife had shrimp, jumbo baked potato. It was my first visit at Lake at the lake house our waitress. Was very good and everybody was friendly. Met another couple to try this location for the first time. The Red Sangria was tasty. The menu has a nice layout but they do have a few specials depending g on which day you stop in. Although there is no mention of a fish fry on the menu, on Friday's they offer AUCE Walleye. Sounds amazing right? Don't be fooled! They come out as the baby walleye and so look like chicken tenders from a bag. I had the baked potato and alcohol came with clam chowder. The baked was fair at best and the chowder, although having plenty of clams and potatoes, the chowder itself needed work. Not worth a return trip read more

Visited The Lakehouse in Lake Villa this morning. We went there specifically for their brunch which was awful! There was hardly any food in the warmers and when we got to the table the food was ice cold. We told the waitress and she went to check the buffet area and came back to tell us the warmers were on. She saw I ate none of my food, still charged us full price and never apologized for the quality of the food. Don't bother going there. read more

Dinner tonight took 35 minutes to get our food and 3 out of our 5 entrees were cold. The menu item Mushroom risotto came and it was yellow rice not risotto at alll! We had a person with celiac and their website claimed to have a gluten free menu, when we arrived we were told there was no gluten free menu. The restaurant is known for their rotisserie chicken so I had to try it. I went with the Rotisserie BBQ Chicken and baked sweet potato along with steamed veggies. Healthy portions. The entrees also include a soup or salad. We came in with 30 minutes before happy hour ended. We took advantage of the 50% off appetizers. If you want a grate roasted chicken dinner this is your place. Recently had their chicken with a mushroom sauce served over risotto with a side of steamed and seasoned vegetables. Dinner came with a house salad which was one of the best I seen in a long time. Everything was fresh and crisp. I ordered blue cheese dressing and it really had lots of blue cheese crumbles. Also had their calamari appetizer. Also very good. Crisp and enough for 3 or 4 people. Be ready to ask for a take away box Their servings are quite large. read more

Recently, we have been getting take out dinners from Lake house because of limited options in area. The food was very good. We have had the ribs, chopped steak and rotisserie chicken with Mushroom gravy and risotto. The dinners come with a side and Salad. It 's reasonably priced and packaged well for transport. Not my first time there but will be my last. Went in a Monday night at 5:45. Place was empty which should have been a red flag. There were maybe 25 people in the place. We sat at a high top in the bar area. Waited a bit for service so the hostess came over with water. She was super sweet. The good- fabulous watermelon cucumber margarita. That's it. My husband asked if he could order half a salad- bartender- who was our server was rude in the response so we each ordered a salad ($17 salads) and after an hour we still had no food. Finally we told our server to just bring us our check and box up the salads. We were tired of waiting. Amazingly out food is brought out at the same time the check was. The bartender told her to box it up and then it was brought back to us. You was surprised at how little the salad actually was in the Togo container, they look pretty big in the bowls at the restaurant. Salad was just ok. Dressing was super watered down and I had asked for both the chipotle and the ranch on the side. Both were like water with little flavor. Definitely not worth the price. We have never been that impressed with the food here and always thought it was was overpriced but it is close to home so we have occasionally stopped by forgetting what we didn't like. You know a good server if they listen to their guest and ask additional questions. She said I'll be honest go with the chicken, they're both good dishes but the chicken tonight is amazing. Ok she recovered that one is what I was thinking like whats wrong with the other dish...nothing she said just her opinion she said she liked the chicken better as per her recommendation. Ok, so I of course then can't pick a chicken dish...I mean read the options. I like a good Lemon and BBQ, so I againasked which she would order...she ask me do you like cream sauce, savory sauce or more best flavor? I said best flavor so surprise me. She sure did I received the BBQ chicken, it was just that savory in a way I couldn't stop eating it. I'm not a big fan either if my white meat is super dry...this was just right (it could be a bit less cooked, but still tasty and not too dry). Well let's talk about some other items...preztel nuggets. I sadly wasn't a fan, don't get me wrong tasty but I have had way better. I found the colder they got they then became like harder pretzels. Cheese curds a little over cooked but dip into I didn't eat the other dishes but asked to see what I may have missed by not picking the Lemon Chicken. The sauce is creamy tasting and there is a lemon kick, just not an overwhelming lemon kick which I liked, but wasn't a fan it was served with white rice with sauce. My guest liked her meal, but she said she couldn't taste any lemon but just cream sauce. I again dis agree it was a lemon chicken, but I haven't had Covid so remember if you lost some taste I would suggest ask for additional lemons in the side. Ordered the BBQ Chicken Salad as a wrap and substituted cole slaw for fries. It was a perfect hot day meal. Can't say enough about Dean and his staff. There were only three of us and it was as if we were invisible from seating to ordering to getting our food to getting and paying our check we had to keep looking for service. It took over two and a half hours to just get through the visit and most of that was just waiting. After we were seated it took 15 minutes and me getting up to ask in order to get someone to bring us water. I would never go back. read more

The atmosphere could use some lightening and brightening, as the bones are great, but it's dark, like a dungeon inside.
