Assorted Tofu Soup (Medium) with Beef, Shrimp, and Clam (Combo Size Portion)
    Mike L.

Even though it happened ages ago, I still remember the first time I ever visited a BCD Tofu House. At the same time, considering how it came at 3am after a night out in K-Town some significantly less than sober friends, it's not a whole lot either. In all, I remember that the place was packed, we were spread out across three or four tables, and that, most importantly, the food was great! Now that I've been back a few times all of these years later, albeit to an entirely different location, it's just as comforting as it is awesome to know that the food is just as good as I remember...and that it wasn't because of all of the alcohol we had! Located in the ridiculously busy Diamond Jamboree complex, this BCD is super convenient...assuming you're able to snag a parking space (peak dinner hours, especially on Friday or Saturday nights, are the worst). The restaurant is large, there are plenty of places to sit and/or walk around at while you wait, and the line moves pretty fast. More importantly, the menu is so good! As you'd expect, given BCD Tofu's popularity, they have plenty of tofu soup options to choose from, but they also have BBQ meat plates and entrees that you can a la carte or as a combo with your soup, apps, like fried mandu, japchae, fried tofu, and seafood pancake, bibimbap, dolsot bibimbap, and even marinated crab. In short, nothing crazy unique, but still plenty of things to get! -- HAEMUL PAJEON (Seafood Pancake) with Squid, Shrimp, Mussel, and Green Onion We've ordered this three times with mostly good results. The first and third we had this, it was pretty good - crispy and decently filled. The second time, though, which I assume was an outlier, it was pale, oily, and barely crispy, presumably from not being cooked long enough. -- SPICY RAW CRAB My first time having marinated raw crab. Aside from one of the crabs still having some fishing wire tangled around its leg, this was pretty solid. The crabs tasted really fresh and I liked how the marinade had a slight kick to it. -- ATKA MACKEREL Pretty decent, though, I've definitely had better. While I was impressed with how large the mackerel was, for whatever reason, this one had a lot of bones left in it compared to others I've had. Still, the fish was flavorful and meaty. -- ASSORTED TOFU SOUP - Beef, Shrimp, and Clam (Mild) Of the three types of soup I've tried, this was my favorite. Not only was there a good amount of beef, seafood, and tofu, but the flavors complemented each other so well. That said, their "mild" was a bit too "mild" for me. -- SEAFOOD TOFU SOUP - Shrimp, Clam, and Mussel Meat (Mild) Not quite as good as the Assorted Tofu Soup, but not that far behind either. The chunks of mussels were surprisingly large and gave this a different sort of meatiness than the beef. This also felt a little mild as well, but I did like the overall seafood flavor. -- HAM & SAUSAGE TOFU SOUP - Ham, Sausage, and Cheese (Medium) Ehh...not bad for what it is, but easily my least favorite. While I liked how they didn't skimp on the sausage or ham/Spam, the two also made this taste rather salty. Also, I didn't taste any cheese either, but at least the spice level was much better. -- ASSORTED TOFU SOUP - Beef, Shrimp, and Clam (Medium) This was just as good as the one I had before and even seemed to have a lot more tofu in it, too. Between that and how the spice level tasted so much better, this was nearly perfect! -- LA GALBI - BBQ Short Ribs To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to expect with this, but it turned out to be so good! The cuts are thick and meaty, not overly fatty, and were just straight up delicious. I'm sure there are better out there, but this is one of the best I've had in a while. Beyond the food, the service here is pretty solid as well. Not only are all of the servers generally friendly, but I like how they will come around refill banchan dishes unprompted. The kitchen gets orders out pretty quickly, too, which, combined how efficient the workers are, helps them turn over tables so quickly and churn through the line. Interesting enough, if I had based this on that second visit alone, this would probably be closer to a two and a half star review. However, given how swimmingly the rest of them have gone, it ended up being pretty easy to give four star reviews. Couple that with how ridiculously late they stay open (not 24/7 like how their K-Town locations used to be, but 3am is still more than enough), I'll definitely be back at some point or another!

BCD Tofu House honestly never disappoints. My friends and I have made so many little road trips here just to get Korean food, and it's always worth it every time. The servers are so nice and attentive. They're always checking in on the tables and making sure everything is taken care of, whether it's refilling water or bringing more banchan without us even having to ask. The service feels really thoughtful and welcoming, especially when the restaurant gets busy. Their banchan are seriously so good, especially the cucumber and fish cakes, which are always my favorites out of all the side dishes. I could honestly keep eating refills of those alone. We got the seafood and assorted tofu soups along with the seafood pancake as an appetizer. This was actually my first time trying their seafood pancake, and it was delicious. It came out crispy on the outside while still soft inside, packed with seafood and flavor, and honestly was enough to feed about four people. The tofu soup was perfect too. It came out still bubbling hot, but once it cooled down a little it was so comforting and flavorful. It's the type of meal that genuinely feels like it heals your soul after a long day. I think this is definitely going to be one of the things I miss most when I leave SoCal, those random road trips with friends just to get good food. I also love the location because after eating, we always end up walking around Diamond Jamboree after to digest and hang out a little longer.

First time at this location. We went at an odd time, around 3pm on a Monday so it wasn't crowded at all. Fairly large space with a lot of tables. We were seated right away and our food came out fairly quickly. We ordered the veggie soon tofu and the kalbi combo with the kimchi soon tofu. The soon tofu that comes with the combo is a little smaller. The kalbi portion was a good size, so we were able to share it amongst two people. Everything was really tasty. The kalbi was well seasoned and was pretty tender. Service was pretty average. We were able to get more side dishes when we ran out. We would definitely come back again for the food.

BCD has literally never let me down when my late night cravings hit. It was such a great staple when i was in college and still is. the LA galbi here is still one of the best i've had, and the soondubu is so yummy and comforting. the service at the irvine location is also great, they are always quick to refill our banchan and provide us with anything else that we need (scissors for cutting the meat, etc). Ofc, the line is always super long especially at dinner time until closing but I've always found that the queue moves pretty fast and never had to wait more than 30 mins. Parking in DJ is also rough but there's always the extra parking lot next to the h-mart when the main parking lot is too packed.

Come hungry! Bring more people so you can try more things. Service: is always great from every staff member Food: I've gotten the galbi and bulgogi combos both are really good. You should definitely try the seafood pancake too! Parking: horrible, so drop someone off to enter your name on the waitlist while the other person finds parking

Great lunch experience here, the combo has a lunch special price and it is a lot of food! The waitress kept offering to refill our side dishes which I appreciated that we never had to flag someone down. Always a solid place if you're craving tofu soup!

When I crave for Korean tofu soup dishes, this is my go to place. Parking can be a challenge at the Diamond Jamboree location. However, service is quick and efficient. Ambience is simple and practical. You get your order timely, eat and you're out. There are a great variety of topping choices and food is delivered hot & fresh. They also have a great variety of side dishes that are refilled regularly. The little fried fish is our favorite. We had spicy pork with beef tofu soup and seafood tofu soup. Appreciate their consistency and definitely coming back!

Always a go to especially late at night. Perfect for after a night out, cozy comfort meal, catching up with friends or even a solo meal! Their original beef medium always has the perfect amount of spice and savory burst of flavors! It's my go to tofu soup order time and time again. Their banchan always hits and the servers double down on checking if you're low on them. They'll either swiftly fill them up or someone with a cart comes around.

BCD is always so busy. You will need to get here either before they open or after the lunch or dinner rush. Love getting the Galbi combo with tripe tofu stew. The server is always filling up the side dishes. The Galbi is cooked just right and usually is the first item to be finished on the table. Parking can be challenging and so it's a good idea to sign up on the waitlist and then go find parking.

My must get anytime i'm in the LA/Irvine area! They are super generous with the portions, and it is worth the price, especially if you get their combo meals. Today, I tried their hot bibimbap, side of kimchi soon dubu, and it came with rice and of course side dishes. All of that for around $27 is super worth it, and I had enough for left overs. It's usually a hit or miss with the wait times for me. Sometimes we get seated nearly immediately, sometimes we have to wait. But, time goes by fast when you're shopping at the other stores or walking around the plaza. This is a pretty big location, so plenty of seating!

I've been to BCD before, but in Garden and I enjoyed it especially the free fish! But this was like 4 years ago. Now for my second time, I'm here in Irvine visiting from the Bay and I was looking forward to it. The spot is super busy for a Wednesday night and we got the free fish again! I guess every guest gets one regardless of what you ordered. The food overall was great, but I was most impressed with the efficiency and the service that you receive here, especially the free refills on banchan.

Soup (soon tofu) that comes with the bibimbap combo
    Divya J.

Really enjoyed the vegetarian Hot Stone Bibimbap combo (comes with soup, pickled spicy cucumber, kimchi, potato, fish, garlic pickle, egg). The bibimbap was very good and so was the gochujang that came with it. It comes with a decent bit of vegetables but the tofu was too bland. Would have liked some more sesame seeds/oil. The portion is good for one but if you get an extra bowl of rice, you can split it between two people. You get refills on the side dishes that come with the combo. The soup was delicious and very flavorful - a lot like a spicy vegetable-tofu stew. We went on a Thursday night and there was a 30 min wait. The service is good but the waiters are just too busy. Nice place, filled with mostly students because it is open very late in the night.

Kalbi LA Galbi Combo with Soybean Soon Tofu, spicy
    Melissa P.

Okay my curiosity got the best of me I got the Kalbi combo, way more pricy then I think it's worth. Spice level on the Soybean Soon Tofu was accurate tho and tasted yummy. Unlimited banchan and rice tea that honestly was delicious. Idk if I'd crave this place over my usual Korean place. But not bad for a late night dinner. Staff was fast and efficient, and it was pretty clean. But noting that the floors are slippery, similar to Korean bbq, I almost ate it coming out of the bathrooms.

BCD Tofu House Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - BCD Tofu House

    Do we need reservations?

You get on the list at the door. Wait isn't too much except on weekend nights, when it can be 30-60 minutes...

Are the tofu soups gluten free?

    Yes

Do you get banchan if you only order soup?

Yes, typically banchan comes default with all things ordered whether it's just soup, bibimbap only or any meat only entrees

    Are there gluten-free options?

Yes they have those options available!

    What does BCD stand for?

It stands for Buk Chang Dong!

Is the banchan still good like taste good during 12am-3am?

We've been there at 12:40 AM and it was still fresh. I'm not sure beyond that, but as long as they're busy I'm betting it would be.

Does the Tofu Soup have any seafood or related in it? I have allergies and want to make sure.

Yes. It's a seafood soup with tofu

Does their main dishes include rice or is the rice paid separately?

I recall that it does. My husband ordered the short ribs and got a bowl of rice that I took to eat with my soup. I LOVE RICE! It's bad but it's a MUST have for me.

    How do i Check waitlist?

See the iPad at the entrance for the waitlist information

How do you get on the waitlist?? Do we have to go to the restaurant to get on the waitlist?

Yes. Their wait list is only accessible at the entrance

Do they have outdoor dining? 12.9.22

    No, everything is indoors now.

What time do they close on Monday?

They close at 2am on Mondays.

Does anyone know what time frame their "lunch" pricing is? I'm here currently (12:04pm) and we were charged regular pricing

    11am - 3pm weekdays only

How about now are they open for indoor dining?

    As of 10/12/2021, yes!

Are they opened for indoor dining now?

    Nope, only outdoor!

Are they open now for dine in or outdoor seating?

    Dine in currently

Does the takeout come with side dishes?

Yes they do. Same as dine in: fish, fish cake, kimchi, and bean sprouts

Does anyone know the name of the fish in the side dishes (the fried fish)?

    It's call yellow croaker

Does their phone number work? I'm always getting a busy tone immediately when I dialed their phone #.

Yes, their phone number does work! However, at the location I go too they only speak Korean.

What comes in the combo? Is the soup selectable?

Yes! The combo has the options of the soups (S category)

You can tell this place has a strong base of regulars too, I saw a mix of friend groups and families casually walking in like it's their go-to spot. We ordered the cold noodles combo with jokbal (pork hock) for $30.95. Portion wise, it's SOLID for two people. The cold noodles were refreshing and really hit the spot, especially if you like that clean, slightly tangy flavor. The jokbal was very decent. Not bad, but if you've had it in Korea, you'll notice it doesn't quite hit the same level still totally "usable," just not standout. Value, this is where they win. We got full off just one combo, which is rare these days. Plus, all the usual Korean side dishes are complimentary, and they also served a warm bone broth at no extra cost. I've honestly never had that offered like this before, and it made the whole meal feel extra comforting and homey. Small detail, but I also appreciated that the table was already fully set up with bowls, utensils, and water which makes everything efficient. Overall, really solid experience. It actually gave me a bit of that Seoul nostalgia, which is hard to replicate. Definitely coming back to try more dishes.

She threw the last side dish on our table while she was walking away too. I wanted to be optimistic about the food even though the staff gave a terrible first impression. We ordered two soups. They were both super bland. My partner and I kept debating whether or not to ask for more salt because of the lack of seasoning in both of our meals. Even the side dishes were lacking flavor and looked like they were sitting out for a long time. The only good thing I have to say about this place is the kind lady (probably owner) of the restaurant. Everything else was a huge let down. I wanted to like the food here because there's a lot of good Korean restaurants in Irvine, and this could've been one of them but sadly it's not worth coming back.

Best decision of my late night misadventures in a long time! It was very filling (you could probably order one item and split it or have plenty of food for leftovers the next day), it's not inexpensive but it's great value (but then again $20 for a meal out is kind of going rate standard so maybe it is inexpensive or comparable to most anything else you could choose?), and it's great quality. The soup is a combo meal that comes with rice, glass noodles, fish cakes in sauce, and kimchi. You can also modify the spice level to make it more mild or spicy depending on your preference. I don't know why I am so obsessed with the soup but I'm going to think about it for a while because I was 100% lost in the sauce while eating it - after you get halfway you can put the rice, part of the kimchi, and (maybe) the fish cakes in the soup so it gets closer to porridge and break up some of the blood sausage to mix it throughout. Service is friendly and can recommend different things to eat. I got my order as takeout but the dining atmosphere is really good for how close each table is to one another. Everyone still has enough space to be on their own but because you're closer together it kind of feels communal.

They were extremely generous on the tofu and I felt like I definitely got my protein intake in. The spice was just right, it looks so red but it wasn't that bad! I would definitely come back. It's a mom and pop shop I would support. I think it's underlooked and needs appreciation. My husband is from Irvine so we'll definitely be back next time we're in town visiting family.

The menu can be a little confusing but you get the gist of it. I tried the ox bone soup which comes with rice and some glass noodles. At $23.99, the price point was steep for the portion. I've gotten this for cheaper elsewhere for a similar taste.

There were some carrot pieces, mushrooms, spinach clumps, and some onion slices. I liked how the mushrooms were salted, it contrasted well with the sweeter flavors of the marinade. There were small pieces of beef in there as well that added some body to the dish. The fried mandu was good as well. I liked that the fry wasnt too crazy such that it makes the wonton wrapper on the outside super hard. These were very easy to eat. The meat on the inside was juicy and flavorful. These dumplings come with its own soy sauce. The panchan here was pretty standard and was good. They offer iced barley tea as well here. Good service with a plain ambiance.

I saw they had Galbitang...and was excited to try their version of it. But my buddy was sold on Yukkaejang... Being a fan myself..mostly because I have never found my favorite one, I agreed. We also wanted to order mandoo and bibimbap as a control. The waitress comes over and we order those three items. She tells us that we shouldn't order the bibimbap, we should order the hot stone version. I love Korean restaurants....it's way more important to order what the employee thinks is best....yes let's do it! Our food comes out and everything is delicious! The Yukkaejang is very good....but also very spicy. Definitely at the top of my threshold for spice...but I am wimpy. The stone pot bibimbap was interesting and yummy. It had a miso flavor to it...very good! The hilarious part was the mandoo seemed so bland after eating the other two dishes....just due to the intensity of flavor! The banchan was good as well. I was using the wonbok kim chee to cool down my mouth from the Yukkaejang...that's how spicy it was...lol I know we will be back...definitely for the Galbitang!
