I am weirdest Chinese girl because I love being a red head at least twice a year and this time around the Ombre' style has come onto the scene and I love that new trend. Gives me a good reason to keep my roots black and my ends red. I like going to BCS salon because I love what Erandi's work. There is nobody else that can do what she does to hair and to my hair. It's been about a month since Erandi ( my hair dresser) did my Ombre' red hair. And it's still a deep red and I love it. It she did a technique where the red will fade into an orange ensuring it will still look good as it fades a little bit until I see her again. I'm a very picky person to please when it comes to hair. She has been my hair dresses for about 3 years now I wouldn't go to anybody else. I will be seeing her again in January for a touch up and I will try to remember to take picture of my hair to post next time. read more

I came to this salon today while looking for a new place after being disappointed by my previous place. Based on the reviews I've read between here and google, I was pretty confident in my decision to choose BCS. I walked out today with the worse haircut i've ever had. Of course, i am a woman with a pixie cut and i realize that its easy to mess them up, but there is not one thing i can pick out thats good about my cut. The sides are uneven, my side burns are lopsided, the hair on my neck is longer than the hair on the top of my head. Literally everything about this cut is just awful. I left expressing my disappointment, but of course still paid my bill. I've already got an appointment at another salon tomorrow to fix it, but from what i can tell shaving my head is the best thing i can do right now. really disappointed that not only do i have this awful cut, but i have to pay another salon to fix. I would absolutely not recommend this shop nor will i visit again. read more

It was time I gave up my 1980's perm, with the chopper side burns halfway down my cheeks (I kid-I kid). I was looking for a new place to cut my hair, now that I ventured South again for a brief stint. I did what all self respecting human beings do, and I scoured Yelp for the go-to shop. My fellow Yelpers did not disappoint. I called to make an appointment at BCS, and luckily they had a last minute opening the next day. The salon is on 35th, just west of Halsted. It looks tiny from the front, but the inside is laid out nicely. The staff was all friendly, and went out of their way to welcome people as they walked in. My hair was done by Gil. Turns out, he is like the rock star of the hair world. He and his staff do many of the back stage cuts for many of the bands when they come thru Chicago to tour. To think, if his scissors could talk, what would be the crazy nights they have witnessed?!?? Also, he was an educator for a major international hair product/brand. Looks like I know where I'll be getting my hair did, while I'm south of Madison. read more

I recently got my first haircut at BCS and I have to admit that the haircutting services are top-notch. The stylists know what they are doing and will talk through the process with you. It's reassuring as a hair customer, to say the least. However, the good haircut doesn't make up for its faults. I just thought it was way too pricy. I was used to getting $15 haircuts (and good ones!) on the North Side. As much as the stylists at BCS love styling hair, a haircut shouldn't cost you more than $60. There are so many more important things you can be spending your money on. I personally will not be returning. Another aspect of my experience that I found extremely bothersome was the pressure to buy more products along with your haircut. Shampoos. Hair Products. Etc. They just keep mentioning different things you can buy! They won't let you leave peacefully. I ended up buying a few products and ended up being very unhappy with one of the products. Yes, they said it would be a great hair product, but it ended being terrible for my new haircut. I just ended up going to Walgreens to get a decent hairspray for my hair. Go to BCS if you want a good but PRICY haircut. read more

I really wanted to love this place. I went in yesterday for an eyebrow wax to check it out before fully committing to a haircut. This place is very close me to and would be sooo convenient. The salon is very cute and seemed busy at 10:30 on a Saturday morning. Everybody I encountered was very friendly. Evie did my eyebrow wax, she was so nice! She took my apointment over the phone and knew it was my first time in the salon. They do eyebrows in the shampoo room, which is fine with me. I really needed a wax and I have to say that they are now under control and have a great shape. Right after she pulled the wax off I noticed that it hurt a lot more than usually under my left eyebrow and it continued to hurt all day. When I woke up this morning I had a scab under my left eyebrow exactly in the pattern that hurt yesterday. I can't imagine that she burned me because the wax did not seem hot enough to burn. I'm not really sure but I know that I have gotten my eyebrows waxed every 3-4 weeks for the last 12 years and have NEVER had this problem. I am hoping this was a fluke so I am willing to try them again. I will definitely be going to a new person though. I am hoping that it was a one time thing and not a sign of poorly trained staff, which does not seem to be the case from the other reviews! I'll be back to update after my next visit. read more

I decided one Saturday morning that my hair was in serious need of a cut. I had been trimming my own hair (well the layers anyway) for a few years. I definitely don't recommend doing that yourself but in my defense, I do have my cosmetology license but I am not a practicing hair guru at the moment. Anyway, a friend of mine had mentioned this salon and I decided to call on a Saturday morning to ask if they had any openings. I assumed they didn't, especially because I called on the Saturday before Christmas! To my surprise, they had an afternoon opening and the person on the phone, a nice gentleman whose name I didn't catch, was very friendly and accommodating. I was excited for my 1:00 appointment and decided to show up a few minutes early to check out the salon. The salon itself is really cute and has a modern and comfy feel to it. I was offered a beverage while I waited on my stylist and figured I should accept their glass of wine, I didn't want to be rude after all =) As I waited in the reception area I was told that my stylist, Erandi, would be out in a few minutes and I didn't mind at all. A few moments later she came and introduced herself to me and we talked a little about my hair. She said she would come back for me in a few minutes because she was still working on her previous client. Once it was time for my appointment I explained to her what I've been doing myself at home and I mentioned that I didn't want to cut too much from the length. Erandi convinced me that I needed more than just a trim and said that my curly hair (well curly on a good day; usually it's more like a ball of frizz) would curl better if it was cut a little shorter than what I initially wanted. Erandi was very friendly and I felt comfortable talking to her. Towards the end of my appointment I was feeling relaxed and was just observing the other stylists and their hair cutting skills. Everyone at the salon seemed very talented and had their own creative style going on. I was very happy with my hair cut and was happy Erandi convinced me to cut more from the length. I will definitely visit Erandi again. Overall this place is pretty cool. They have a good selection of Paul Mitchell products, the salon itself is cute and trendy, and the staff is fun and professional. The only reason I gave this place four stars instead of five is because I did end up waiting a little longer than a few minutes. I am not an impatient person and trust me, having worked in a busy salon on a Saturday I know that it can get pretty hectic. I think a client should be made aware if their stylist is running 20-30 minutes behind because it can help a client feel more at ease and not assume someone forgot about him/her. Again, this is not how I felt and I didn't mind waiting but someone else may not be as understanding. =) read more

BCS will no longer get my service. I LOVE Monica! She is amazing and the only person I'll let cut my hair, it's a very nice salon in a very shady location and very far from where I live and work but it's worth the drive. read more

Marco is excellent. I wanted super bleach blonde hair and he did an amazing job (because yes it is hard to get right!)! Additionally, he is great at short, edgier haircuts. He does a lot of work outside of the salon for different shows, bands, teaches, etc. and between that and the way he talks about his work it is clear how passionate and ambitious he is about his career! For the services the price is right! For a cut and color it is about the same price as one cut at the yuppy "upscale" salons on the near north side that don't give you half as good as service as BCS will! Additionally, all of the employees are welcoming and accommodating from the time you check in for your appointment until the time you leave. They are always sure to ask if you need anything like coffee of water (which is out for the customers to freely get anyways) which elevates the entire experience to the next level. After a pretty unfortunate coloring job at another salon, I've been skittish about the idea of trying color again, but I'm so glad I did! My colorist, Erandi, was super sweet and got my color exactly right. I brought in a picture that was the closest thing I could find to what I wanted, and she made it work perfectly with my natural hair color. One of the best parts was their shampoo area, which is in a separate room and is very zen. When the assistant, Jessica, washed out my hair she spent at least 5 minutes on a scalp massage, plus the room itself is filled with candles and there's nature sounds playing and footrests at every sink. So relaxing! I was especially impressed that after the rinse the stylist-in-training did a blow-dry and style for free. I don't know if this is standard practice, or I just got lucky that one of the stylists-in-training was free, but it was a really great perk and my hair looks extra awesome now! She even took the time to explain the techniques she was using so I can style my hair in a few new ways. Two words of caution: don't go on a day the White Sox are playing (you can't park on the street outside on game days without a permit) and be careful when coming and going from the salon: the neighborhood it's in is a little dicey. read more

I normally don't get haircuts anywhere because of my past traumas. Today, I decided it was time. I used to love my long hair and couldn't do without but with my 2 kids, I have no time to style. I called BCS. They were able to squeeze me in on the same day! I got the pleasure of having Tess cut my hair. Let me tell you, Tess was marvelous! She was attentive and on point. She knew what I wanted and delivered! I got my tresses cut to an angled bob and I loved it. Not to mention, she gave a great massage while shampooing my hair. I like coming here because they use Paul Mitchell products. I have a very sensitive scalp & if cheap products are used on me I have a horrible allergic reaction. One of my favorite things is when they wash your hair and they give you a awesome massage. The washing of the hair takes place in a separate room where it is very soothing. There are low lights, candles burning, and the smell is very relaxing. The massage is one of my favorite things here. The stylist Liz is the owner. She is great. She knows how to use her scissors and how to cut a fantastic pixie. Color always comes out very nice, rich and glossy. They always use Paul Mitchell tools which are fantastic. I recommend coming here if you appreciate a good color, a good cut and a great massage while washing your hair. read more

I have actually worked with three stylists, Craig, Cray and Gil-- they were all fabulous! Craig gives me an awesome and trendy style for my long hair, Cray is awesome with the curls and and makes me feel gorgeous when I leave, and most recently I worked with Gil. This place is horrible!!!!!!! I had an appointment today at 10 AM. The place was not even open I had to wait outside in the cold. The girls came in open the door didn't greet me or asked me to sit, I waited about 5 min for them to even at acknowledge me. They got my information and informed me that they were going to make coffee and literally walked away. I wish this visit would have worked out. I went in to have a cut and color, the very nice stylist tried to accomodate me however my hair did turn out a bit green after she attempted to color my hair platinum blonde. She told me to come back in about 6 weeks for the final lift to blonde. I can't wait, I am a professional thus, I had to color my hair red myself. I was really disappointed because I wanted this to work out because it is so close to my home. The lighting in the salon is dark and I was there on a evening so I really couldn't tell what color I actually had until the next day in daylight. I made an appt for partial highlights with a junior stylist ($55) and a blow dry($25). Did a great job on my hair but charged me 30$ more because they said my roots had grown out too long. What kind of place does that???? So if someone was coming in for the first time for highlights you would charge them more than someone who has gotten them before? Totally shady. I was fortunate enough to have paired up with Ashley thanks to a coworker's referral. I made my appointment a few days in advance since luckily she had an opening. After showing her a picture of the style I coveted, this beautician became a magician. I walked out with exactly what I wanted. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and offered coffee and tea. Ashley soon introduced herself then lead me to a room where they wash your hair prior to the haircut. There I had the most amazing head massage I have ever experienced in my entire life. Next, I sat on the chair and she immediately went to work on my hair after discussing what I wanted. She was so patient and paid close attention to detail. Well - took my son out of school a little early to make my 3:45 appointment with Gil. By 4:05 he saw me waiting and just looked away. By 4:15 I was out the door, a half an hour later and a quick "sorry" from the front desk personnel (including the owner, Liz, who had previously been so accommodating). Gil is in very high demand apparently to be so overbooked. If he doesn't want to do a children's haircut (even tipping at 20% after my last visit), he should let the front desk know and stop booking them. read more

Paulina is my stylist and I will never change stylists again unless she dyes my hair green without permission. I love how she changes your style with your future in mind, for example in my case, she decided on less layers because I will need my hair for up-dos due to a few weddings taking place in the next few months. She also knew exactly how to "fix" my hair when I came in upset from what my previous stylist did. I know it's a lot more difficult to fix an unsatisfied cut than to create something new. I haven't tried her dye jobs yet and can't wait to go for something drastic in the fall.
