After explaining to Tim we are elderly and the heat was more than we could deal with I could sense his concern for our well being. We recently had a whole-home ducted Mitsubishi heat pump system installed by BDL. From start to finish- everyone at BDL made the experience 5-stars! Josh W. took the lead in getting things quoted and booked- and was always very communicative and receptive to my multiple questions. Nate and Jaron were my two installers- and these guys were super courteous, communicative- and were obsessed with keeping what could have been a messy job (cellulose insulation all throughout the attic) contained at all times. With a historic home I was very concerned about not messing up the look of the home- and they did a great job of "hiding" what they could and triple-checked that we were going to be ok with the locations of all the registers. And finally Shanelle in the office was ON TOP of the rebate paperwork for MassSave - having reached out literally as soon as the job was completed. Hi My name is Anthony, I had BDL Heating & cooling come out to my house in July, there crew came in to remove old air conditioning units and installed new heat pumps they did this in very timely manner the crew was very fast in removing old equipment. the crew was very respectful and polite. they worked in very hot conditions hottest week of the summer. I appreciated Tom and his crew work very hard in hard conditions they were great guys. Got the job done in a timely manner. he said it would take four days to a week. Did a very professional job. Start up the system by the end of the week and added the ecobee thermostats to the system with the help of max's who installed them went Thur the operation with me and set all thermostats up. the heat pump systems have been running for a month and the system are running great. My thanks to the crews and the company for making the transaction very smooth and comfortable they cleaned up very good. Outstanding service! We had a maintenance service and they found an issue that could have resulted in a huge problem and fixed it before it became that. On both visits the people that they sent out were knowledgeable, polite, and friendly. In fact everyone I dealt with was great and I decided to do an annual maintenance contract with them because of how I was treated. They explain all the work and itemize it. They are careful and clean up after themselves. The biggest thing to me was that they showed up when they said they were going to show up and they call ahead to let you know! It pains me to write this unfavorable review, but BDL installed our central heat/AC system and they did so poorly. It has never worked correctly and continues to short cycle (gets too cold and turns off repeatedly). Despite my many attempts to get them to address this problem, they no longer respond to my calls. Initially they tried to fix this problem and several others, but in doing so, they disconnected a safety sensor which led to the heating coil freezing and flooding our home. This resulted in significant damage to our floors and walls. Even after this was repaired, problems persisted. The system continues to short cycle, the zone dampers leak air into zones not calling for heat/AC, wasting energy and making our master bedroom frequently too hot. While they were initially responsive, I no longer have any faith in their ability to address complex HVAC systems and relevant problems. UPDATE: After seeing this review, BDL reached out to me because they were concerned about it, and I was impressed by this. I explained that our HVAC system continues to short-cycle when cooling and some of the zone dampers still leak air when heating, making our upstairs unbearably hot. I have since resorted to closing the vents and using magnetic vent covers to block the airflow. Prompted by them, I had several calls with Josh, some 30-40+ minutes in length. He explained that some aspects of the system were not designed/installed by them, but repeatedly claimed that they wanted to take full responsibility for the trouble I had been having. I was happy to hear that and really impressed that they were taking the issues so seriously. We discussed everything from replacing dampers to adding a supplemental heating system. I literally told him that I am begging for any solution they could think of. However, once again (and despite them reaching out to me and taking up my time with numerous calls and text messages), they failed to get back to me about any proposed solution. It has been one year (11/2019) since I have heard anything from them. read more

Had Steve come out 5 weeks ago to give me a quote to replace my entire heating & cooling system. I still have no quote, even after calling the office to inquire about the estimate. If the could take the time to look at my current system, but still can't follow up with a quote then I can't trust them to follow through with an installation or problem resolution. We contacted BDL to move the condensor for a heat pump/mini split from our porch to around the corner, and to check the refrigerant and fix any leaks. Rob came out and looked at the job, and sent a proposal by email. The price was reasonable, and we were able to get the job scheduled for about a week later. They showed up when they said they would, and did a good job with the moving of the condensor. They fixed a leak in the refrigerant, and made sure it had the right amount of refrigerant, and that the unit was running properly. I would recommend BDL with no reservations. read more

After interviewing about 5 different contractors for a pretty big job, we went with BDL and could not have been happier. We replaced a boiler, put in a combi water tank/forced hot water system, and also put in central air in our upstairs floor as well as a ductless mini split in our big family room. Given it was expensive, and we needed mass save loan, we were extremely careful to hire the right team and thankfully we found BDL. First and foremost, their communication is excellent which is not an area that most contractors excel (or even meet any sort of reasonable bar). These guys were great. Josh and Andrew, the leads, made themselves available both by email as well as by phone when hammering out the details. The job was also a bit complicated because we have an old house, but they provided us with multiple options and quotes. They provided an easy process to get the mass save loan which was seamless. So far, the new system has been working great. We're yet to use the A/C but I would be surprised if we have any major issues and even if, they have already been attentive with some minor fixes to the heating system which were addressed promptly. We will definitely use them again in the future and would recommend them for any HVAC needs. read more

Doesn't get better than this! One of the coldest nights so far this year and as the room temperature dropped we realized our furnace stopped working. We consulted the interweb and went through the DIY checklist. Since it wasn't anything obvious that we cold do ourselves. Then we placed 3 after hours phone calls to different heating services. We left a message for BDL and they called back quickly and had someone here within 30 minutes. (Takes more than that to get delivery from Quans Kitchen... but less yummy) The other two has people answer the phone immediately but the techs didn't call back right away to let us know when they could come out. Our igniter failed and needed to be replaced. From the time we place the call to the time the heat was back on was less than an hour! From a mom with two little kids its nice to know that there's a place out there that can offer such fast and friendly service. Thanks BDL - your business magnet is on my fridge. They were amazing! They've serviced our A/C for about 5 years. Our condenser was 15 years old and failed late in the day on a Thursday before the hottest week of the summer! They came out within 24 hours and said it needed to be replaced. We received a quote for a replacement that Monday morning. We were originally told that they were booked up for 2 weeks but they were able to squeeze us in 4 days later. They installed it quickly. Very professional and great follow up! We first started using BDL Heating and Cooling 7 years ago when we had a problem with our air conditioning unit in our attic. We called 5 companies who claimed to do "Emergency" calls and BDL was the only company to call us back. They showed up first thing the next morning as promised and fixed the problem. Apparently it was something they could have prevented over the winter so they only charged us a minimal fee, waiving the service fee and some labor. I can't say enough good things about theses guys. Very responsive, great customer service, and reasonably priced. Our heat died on the coldest night of the year so far. Another large contractor had come out and taken a look and quoted an insanely expensive price because they knew I did not have heat and I was in a bind. I decided to get a 2nd opinion and called BDL. They came out and replaced the part for a fraction of the cost of my first quote, which was much more inline with what the part costs and the labor required. They were contacted to find out why my house A/C was not working as it is a brand new 14 month old house. They were also told that I needed a report of the problems they discover as I would try to collect the cost of fixing from the installers. They AGREED to the report and it took them about 5 days to fix installation problems their technician found at a cost of $1,276.09. When I asked for the report their owner (Brian) very rudely and angrily said that they will not give any report and instructed his men to take the A/C unit key out, rendering it non-operational. I had to drive to their office, pay the bill in full and get the key from the angry owner without a satisfactory report. It turns out that the installation company gives them some work and they do not want to anger them; they were however told about the installer initially and said "no problem in writing a report". I guess they were hungry for work and would promise anything to get the job. Their initial quotation was $85 per hour but they did not tell me that there will be a second young trainee accompanying him at a cost of $45 an hour. I advise anyone dealing with them or any tradesman to get the initial agreement on paper before commencing any work, no matter how nice they sound. read more

BDL / Brian [owner] and team are BY FAR the BEST HVAC company in the area they serve! Full removal / install of new air handler & A/C condenser in a VERY tight space. Old unit was 25 years old and installed in an old mill that was converted to condo's. Set up was such that you'd need an 8ft ladder and shimmy into a crawl space to TRY to get to the filter to change it. Brian came up with a very creative new set up so that all I need is a chair to change the filter which I couldn't thank him enough for! They also created a much better way to access the unit for future maintenance. All of this is a major benefit to me, and for when I go to sell my condo.
