Last year we had a very unusual problem with our outdoor heating unit. After one 3 months they did finally put in a new unit. Our old unit was under warranty, but we still had to pay for labor. I asked over and over again for the paperwork for the new warranty that they never producted. The new unit was installed 2/1/25. In December of 2025 we had the same problem with the new unit! I called Briggs Mechanical. They sent out 2 different men, they weren't able to figure out the problem and told me they would have to contact the manufacturer and have them come out and look at the unit. I hsve left 2 messages and no one has every called me back. My thoughts are 1, they're waiting until 2/1/26 the year anniversary that they installed the unit and therefore I may not have a warranty or 2, they just don't have the knowledge to fix the problem. Bottom line .. stay away from Briggs Mechanical. Oh, and the owner Mike, he can talk the ears off a brass monkey with his BS. read more

Briggs Mechanical has been my "go to" company since 2015. The staff are friendly, knowledgable and professional. Most recently, I lost my heating system 3-4 days before our first major winter storm this year. I had moved out of Mass. and into RI but called them anyway in hopes that they serviced my area. They were at my home that same day! I was given three different price and system options in their proposal. I was grateful to have a choice that could potentially fit my budget. Needless to say I was up and running again in time for the snowstorm! This is not the first time they were able to get me out of a jam. Briggs will always be my company. We had a 'top of line' Buderis heating system (whole house duct work replaced, new furnace and water heater) designed, recommended and installed by Briggs about 10 years ago. The water heater sprung a leak shortly after install. Because it was a slow leak and we had occasional rain in the basement we didn't realize it right away. When we called Briggs in month 13 they said the warranty expired the previous month. We had another tech come out and confirm that there was an issue with installation that was causing the leak and Briggs still refused to honor it. Because the design is that the water heater is under the furnace, it couldn't just be taken out and replaced. We had to have someone come out and cut and replace a section of piping as a 'fix' to avoid having to put a whole new system in. If that were the only problem, I'd be fine. However, the gold standard system that we paid gold standard prices for has NEVER been able to keep up with the New England winters when it gets below freezing. We've had multiple techs out, from Briggs and other companies, but they can't find a solution. Because the brand is rare, there aren't many specialists who work on them, but you would assume Briggs, who installed it, would be able to help. For years we've gotten pushed off and dismissed saying that they can't find the issue. Usually because they can't come until after the temps outside warm up and the system is working fine. Today, our house is 51 degrees and pretty much unlivable. If you have the need for HVAC service do NOT use Briggs. They will upsell you to start and then not stand behind their products. read more

My furnace was in need of maintenance and I wasn't sure what to do. I googled companies in my area that could service my furnace which is only 2 years old. I called a few companies but none of them seemed to care and couldn't come out. I finally decided to give Briggs mechanical a call. They answered the phone and immediately scheduled someone to come out and service my furnace the same day! The technician who came out was Roy Galloway. He was prompt and very friendly. He came in to have a look at my furnace and immediately got his gear and went to work on servicing my furnace. I never had my new furnace cleaned and serviced before and it showed by the amount of soot that was present. Roy was extremely knowledgeable and giving me a good education on furnace maintenance while working extremely hard to get my furnace in top shape. Roy took my furnace apart and throughly cleaned and inspected every bit of while explaining what he was doing so that I could understand. After he serviced my furnace he made sure it was running and in tip top shape. I'm extremely happy with the service and professionalism from Roy and he is definitely a class act. They definitely don't make them like Roy anymore. If you need your furnace serviced or repaired I'd HIGHLY recommend using Briggs mechanical and definitely ask for Roy Galloway! I am definitely late on this but I had AC installed either April or May 2020 during peak COVID with a newborn at home. The staff was super professional and considerate. They put up plastic barriers, masked, and cleaned everything. The process was quick and easy. It was a life saver to get and now our whole house is comfortable year round. read more

I have used Briggs Mechanical,for a number of years. This past winter my heating system required attention. Troubleshooting the problem cost me $1500 with a final conclusion that I needed a new system. The final troubleshooting bill was $1003.91 with a follow up estimate of $9100 for a new heating system. I was disappointed that the technician did not recognize the need for a new system earlier in his examination and instead cost me over $1500 in additional costs (in addition to the cost of a new system). Also BMI received the new equipment on January 31 but did not install until February 6 causing me to suffer through on of the coldest weekends in 50 years (-8 degrees). There were multiple calls to the office but no one expressed interest in installing the equipment regardless of the upcoming weather. I do. It recommend this company. I have been a customer for many years, have spent over 35 k replacing my HVAC systems as well as having a maintenance contract with them. They provided terrible service. read more

Had a 5-unit ductless system and electric pump water heater installed with MassSave financing. We met with 4 companies and chose Briggs based on the thoroughness of the salesperson/initial visit, our gut instinct and a quote that seemed reasonable (and allowed us to install the water heater for very little money after available rebates). Installation took 4 days, our house was left clean. The owner was a no-show to our pre-installation walk-through. An antique dish in our kitchen was broken during clean-up and a swath of plants in our backyard were trampled (and still dead). They did fix a wooden gate so it could be opened where the outside condenser was installed and blocked the original swing of the gate. Very little communication from the company about progress during installation--only when we called or emailed (they worked in our house while we were at work so we anticipated some amount of courtesy status reports). No communication after completion - not even a thanks, how is it going, any questions? Sealed manuals and remote controls were left by each unit but there was no follow-up to show us how to use it optimally, best settings, etc. All in all, the system works well but not as hoped (for this price tag). Definitely warm during a party with a house full of guests or in the dining and living rooms that are serviced by adjoining rooms. Our salesperson stopped back when we raised concerns about the function and potentially design. The system couldn't be set lower than 70 degrees we were told. In short, it all felt fine to him, our expectations were unreasonable, we may have forgotten what we were told at our initial meeting. He told us (to prove that we were wrong?) that he'd drop off temperature gauges for each room to monitor actual room temps. He never returned. If we were to do it again, we wouldn't hire Briggs Mechanical. read more

Most recently they replaced a Central AC unit in my home. Last winter they replaced our Gas boiler. A few years back they replaced the Central AC at my office. I hired Briggs in 2018 to fix my malfunctioning geothermal system (which he did not install). The main problem was that it was not keeping up with heating and cooling demand. I asked if we should try to fix this system or maybe think about putting in a new system other than geothermal (so I gave Mike Briggs the choice). He assured me that he could fix the existing system and make it function better. I spent $30,000 to fix the system and another $2,500 to insulate the pipes (a company he recommended). I tried to hold back $10,000 to make sure it worked when it got cold, but Mike complained mightily. Paying him that money was one of the worst decisions I ever made. The system did no better at heating/cooling and the small tank corroded and leaked. He did fix that on his dime, just outside the warranty (more on this later). As we headed into winter last year, the main unit died. Granted this was not something that he installed. I was left with a small backup unit that would only heat the house to the mid 50s on cold days. Certainly not ideal! I called him multiple time to help fix it. He ignored my calls for some time, finally getting back to me saying he had high crew turnover and couldn't help. I kept checking in regularly, but he never got back to me all winter. We had to deal with these cold temps - including our young children. If we did not have a mild winter, I'm pretty sure the pipes would have froze. Finally, in MARCH, after my consistent outreach, his assistant got back to me and said "We don't geothermal work anymore." and suggested a firm with a bad reputation. I was left hung out to dry... As a bonus, early on I noticed my electric usage went up by 50% since he installed the unit. He had no explanation as to why and did not attempt to resolve it. This has cost me additional thousands of dollars. I called in another company who does geothermal work to take a look. Here is what they found: - The geo tank was designed for radiant heat, which I do not have. The tank installed could really only support the system calling for a water temp of 105. Well, given it needed to be higher because it was not radiant (120+) that put huge demands on the main unit, which is the reason it died. And probably partially explains the increased electric usage. - The reason the tank corroded (and it happened again, which I had to pay for myself), was because there was air in the line. A valve should have been installed to release the air. - The airhandler he installed was too big (and I probably spent too much as a result) given the number of outlets. - The pipes were not the right size. He did not install them, but should have known. I could spend $46K more to fix all of this, and it still wouldn't work right or go with a gas system. I'm doing the latter - $40K more I have to spend! This entire thing is still a nightmare. I have asked Mike for a refund and he has ignored me. Seems to me if he got out of the business he must of known it was not a strong area for him, so why have me spend all of that money to try to fix it? Why didn't he suggest another type of system? And to ignore me the way he did leaving us stuck with marginal heating over the winter was a disgrace. Absolutely terrible service on top of an incorrect installation. Though he does not do geothermal work anymore, I'm not sure you'd want to use him for anything given how he has treated me. read more

Avoid this company at all costs! I've had multiple technicians from this company try to repair my previous combination water heater and it would break down again after a few days. They charged me every single time and changed multiple different parts each visit which let me know they weren't sure what the actual issue was and they were just taking wild guesses. Finally they convinced me to get rid of the water heater and have them install a brand new one. I paid $10k for a brand new water heater installation and it's been a nightmare ever since to try to get someone out to perform a diagnostics whenever it isn't functioning properly. Tried calling again today (Dec. 3rd 2020) because my tenants reported again that the water heater Briggs installed isn't working properly. The dispatch told me they can't get anyone out to see the unit for a week and a half (heard that one before...) plus my warranty expired. My tenant has 6 young kids which is why I can't afford to wait that long. Never again with this company. Their main goal is profit and not customer satisfaction. If you want great HVAC service call up McClaren HVAC. They are very knowledgeable, cost efficient and they care about their customers. read more

My entire family gives Briggs Mechanical our highest recommendation. They have installed A/C and heat systems in my home, my son's condo, and my daughter and son-in-laws home. Just yesterday Chris Instasi met with my parents at their home in Attleboro to discuss replacing their 29 year old furnace and 26 yr old central air unit. They signed the proposal today. In 2015 my 29 yr old Valliant boiler died the day after the blizzard. I called Briggs and they came out immediately. I had never done business with them before but they treated me like I was a VIP. It was a huge job to replace my old unit in the dead of winter (high efficiency, forced hot water, 7 zones) but they did it quickly, professionally, and with the extremely high quality workmanship. The communication between the sales guy (Chris), the job supervisor, the installers, and the company owner was surprisingly efficient. Since then we have been on an annual maintenance contract for the A/C and boiler units which is worth every penny. Any time I have a concern they call me back immediately and offer to come out even late that night if I need them. Not only do they maintain and service my home and my kids homes, they also have been hired by my in-laws and starting today by my parents. Due to my history and experience with them over the past 4 years, my parents didn't even get any other quotes. The quote for their new A/C and furnace units is definitely market competitive. Most importantly you can't put a price on exceptional service and trustworthy employees.
