Anthony is an amazing instructor. He makes Mondays a lot easier. His cues are very helpful and his tone makes class go by effortlessly. ​

I was excited to try this studio, but my experience was unexpectedly negative. I have been practicing yoga for 20 years, and while I'm not in my "perfect practice" era, I was fully engaged, following along, and doing my best to respect the class structure. I understood and respected their approach to yoga as a discipline and was making a full effort to do my very best. The instructor made it clear that no variations were allowed, which I followed to the absolute best of my ability--making a sincere effort and hoping to continue to strengthen and learn through the practice. Although neither my body nor my practice are perfect, I was glad to be apart of the class and was making a genuine effort to do my best and follow the instructions. At one point, she told me to move to the back of the class because I was "moving too much." I wasn't aware that I was doing anything disruptive, nor was I aware of taking any variations or doing anything outside of what was instructed, but I complied. Without asking, she threw my mat to the back row. As I was taking just a few seconds to straighten it, she told me I needed to do it faster. When I said I was in the process of fixing it, she escalated the situation, accused me of disrupting the class, and made it into a bigger issue. At that point, I told her that if she didn't want me there, I could leave, and she responded, "yes, You're welcome to leave." Instead of offering guidance, an alternative accommodation, or just a few seconds of patience for a student who was sincerely and respectfully trying to be part of the class while rearranging the matt (that was thrown to the back by the teacher without consent) , she chose to exclude me. I've practiced in dozens of studios and for approximately 7800 hours of practice over 20 years, and I have never been treated this way. Yoga should be a welcoming and accessible practice for all, especially if they are making a sincere attempt (even if imperfect), but this studio seems more concerned with enforcing a rigid standard than creating a safe or inclusive environment. If you're looking for a studio that values community, support, learning, growth over time, and accessibility, this is not be the place. read more

I went in for a session with my homegirl a few weeks ago, and I loved it. Did I feel like a rotisserie chicken due to the he? Absolutely. Did I find it a lot more useful, flexibility wise. A few tidbits: - Classes usually run longer than an hour - As the name implies, this is much hotter than any vinyasa class - One side of the room is hotter than the other. Be Hot Yoga just did an interior renovation and it is beautiful! They've opened up the boutique, created more space to store our stuff and replaced the carpet in the studio with beautiful flooring! It's such a pleasure to practice there. The BHY teachers are wonderful. I've found them very kind, experienced, and warm. Plus the clientele is diverse in age and physical fitness so I don't feel intimidated in my new practice, at all. Highly recommend! read more

You really feel like family here! The teachers give you personalized instruction during class, know your name, and will take time to answer questions about poses or your goals. They embrace the spirit of yoga as a continual practice to enrich your life- not something only the most fit and flexible can master. I concur with this being an unwelcoming studio, and not worth the cost. I have practiced Yoga, Hot Yoga, and Bikram Yoga at numerous studios from LA, NY, Florida, and TN, and have practiced in many great studios in Atlanta but this was by far the worst reception and instructions in class that I have yet to receive. Rather then being able to "set MY own intention" for my session, I was restricted to weakening my posses or else be sharply reprimanded. We skipped some of the Bikram poses, and their lacked an understanding for how they are meant to be performed for internal cleansing. My primary complaint is that this is not a place to de-stress or grow in your craft because of the harsh leadership and unwelcoming attitude. Overall I did not enjoy the experience nor will be back. read more

So, I'd previously been going to Red Hot in Buckhead but this was more convenient to work with better times so I decided to give it a shot. I pulled the trigger on the month unlimited new student special. I'm so disappointed that I did! CONS Instructors call you out by name over the microphone when you're doing something wrong, and they come off as very arrogant, condescending, and judgmental. This is not what I'm trying to get out of my practice. I wants relax and get out of the practice what is need that day. Red Hot always allows for that and provides plenty of modifications t help you meet your goals. YOUR goals. Not what they think your goals should be. They call you out and adjust you so much and so loudly and publicly it is humiliating. It's bright as the sun in there! Not very relaxing. The microphones too are disruptive and loud. The instructions are far from soothing and what I became accustomed to at Red Hot. The floor is carpeted. Gross. No blocks or straps for those of us who aren't flexible. They have you modify so you don't get as much out of the pose as I have while using a block or strap. Frustrating! I'd bring my own but don't want to get called out again! PROS It's in a very nice facility with a locker room. One of the instructors brings out chilled lavender towels at the end of class which is lovely. BOTTOM LINE I think I'll suck it up since I paid for the month and I'm a broke grad student and don't have money to throw away. After that I'll be going back to Red Hot where I can actually relax, not feel judged and rushed, and get what I need out of my practice. I certainly won't be going as often as I normally would and I will not look forward to it or get out of it what I normally would. NITTY GRITTY This poor woman came in for a class. She was visiting from out of town. And they picked on her the whole class for every little thing. At one point she finally just left. Poor dear. She looked as humiliated as I felt. This studio and its teachers do not compare to other Bikram studios I've been to in the Atlanta area. They truly care about the discipline of the practice and helping you achieve your yoga pose potential. I just read a one star review on here and it infuriated me. This studio is not a generic yoga studio like the rest so if that's what you're looking for, this isn't it. You don't need a block or strap or whatever. If you TRULY desire to practice Bikram yoga the CORRECT way, with teachers who CARE, then you're in the right place. Well today was my 6th visit and finally feel like this is the studio I will be coming to on a regular basis. It was really challenging to figure out if I was ever going to feel welcomed. I have had 3 teachers and have figured out the best classes for me. Each teacher.....Jason, Christina and I think Suzanne are all very different. If you don't mind constant talking Christina is the class for you. She is probably the most particular about form. Suzanne is a good teacher however she was the most challenging for me. I think it was my second class.... I was just happy that I got through the entire class without stopping and she kinda busted my bubble by telling me to make sure I was in the back of the very crowded class next time I come.....made me feel like I was a problem and not a paying client. Jason was probably the most consistent in speech, positions and disposition. I think his quiet and calm approach was more relaxing to me which allows one to focus a little better. Anyway, my schedule is so crazy I will probably have to get used to all of them. The studio itself is beautiful, clean and comfortable. I had practiced many years ago and decided to start again. I have visited at least 6 other studios here and other cities and this one still rates pretty high overall. If I had to put all of my studio experiences in order this would be #2. So go! I love this studio!! I've practicing at Be Hot for about a year and I really enjoy it. I've been to several studios while traveling for work and living in Brooklyn, New York and this by far the cleanest studio I've practiced at (sorry to end with a preposition). It doesn't have that stench that is commonplace at a lot of studios. As for the teachers--They all know their stuff, but Cristina and Tarah are my favorites. Cristina is hilarious and very technical. Out of shape didn't even begin to describe me,I haven't worked out since my oldest daughter was born almost 4 years ago. Finally I gave in to my friends and join them for a hot yoga class. The instructors are great and made sure that I felt comfortable, welcome and didn't hurt myself. Liked it so much that I end up signing up for the whole month and dragging my husband and father to class with me. I would def recommend it no matter what level u are at. However, I must confess that at first the heat made me think that I wasn't going to make it thru, but I was able to endure and get use to it. LOVE IT LOVE IT read more

I tried this studio for the first time yesterday with the $17 for 7 days. After trying over a dozen yoga studios (hot and not) in the Atlanta area, I can confidently say this was the worst experience I have ever had. I definitely won't go back to finish the week I paid for. Right away, the woman at the front seemed to have an attitude toward me. I told her I didn't need a mat or towel, and she asked me three different times if I was SURE my towel covered my entire mat. How many different ways did she need me to say yes? I thought this was awkward and it was all downhill from there. I was meeting two friends who were also trying the studio out that day. One was cutting it close with only 6 minutes before class start time, and I let the instructor know she was going to be in the building in one minute. The instructor's response was "well, she better be." I should have left then, because it was obvious things weren't going to get better. Before class started, I had my water bottle behind my mat against the wall. My mat was very close to the wall and I would not have needed to step off of it to grab my water. The instructor rudely told me where exactly I needed to put my water. Also, this studio is pretty warm at 105ish degrees and they have a rule that you aren't allowed to drink water when people are in poses. People are constantly in poses or transitioning into poses. When exactly does that leave time to grab a drink without risking the rude ads instructor calling you out publicly? The one time I did get a drink, the class was transitioning into a pose right as I was closing the bottle. The instructor turned to me and said "oh so you're just going to skip this one?" in a very rude tone. Even if I was going to just skip that pose, it's MY practice and I'm allowed to do that. My friends and I weren't allowed to do certain seated poses because it was our first day there. These weren't complicated poses (turtle, camel, rabbit) and certainly not dangerous with proper instruction. One of my friends has years of yoga experience and was still told not do them... this was just another example of how this studio isolated us and made this a very awkward and tense experience. Finally, class was over and I couldn't wait to leave. I asked where the showers were and instead of pointing them out to me herself the instructor told me to just follow someone else and I'd figure it out. I took my 5 minute shower and when I came back into the studio to grab my bag, all the lights were off. The instructor was closing things up, and I understand she wants to leave at a certain time. However, she was so rude to me saying "you have all your stuff, ok good" without me even having a chance to respond and I hadn't even finished collecting things. I ended up leaving with my stuff a mess in my arms just to get away from her. I wasn't even sure I had my car keys until I got home because I was to rushed and uncomfortable to check before I left. I wish I could give this place zero stars. I considered going back to try other instructors, but have decided not to after reading other reviews. I respect myself too much to repeat an experience that felt so awful and embarrassing for the sake of getting my money's worth. read more

Great class when it's not overly packed. Your best best is to get into the 6:30 am as I really like the instructor. I understand, it's a business and attracting new people is a great thing. Unfortunately, this sometimes leads to really large yoga class, which I find distracting. I'm pretty new to Yoga but I find the instructors friendly and I've continued on with the practice. Recently, I decided to get serious about my yoga practice. Like everyone else, I have read tons about the benefits of "hot yoga" as well as celebrities' addictions to it. I'm 5' tall and built like a brick...not a brick house...just a brick...stocky and solid. When faced with heat, I turn red like a brick. Despite this, I decided to give it a try. Plus, the place is ridiculously close to my house. If you've read any of my other reviews, you know that proximity is a serious win in my book. so, one saturday morning, i walked into the studio and was lucky enough to take my first class with owner Cristina. Despite the heat, light-headedness, and inability to get into all of the poses, I fell in love. The kind, yet disciplined environment was great!! Since this first visit, I take most of my classes with Tarah who really makes you work for that final savasana---she is awesome! I have also taken one of Cristina's B.A.S.E. classes, which is great for taking your practice a little further. read more

My friends and I tried going to this place, but ended up being 10 minutes late due to traffic. Nothing on their website or confirmation email said anything about showing up late so we still had hopes for getting in. When we arrived, there was no one in the office or front desk which we could see through the window. No one answered the phone. We rung the doorbell and no one answered. After 30 minutes of standing there in the freezing cold a very rude lady came out named Iana and yelled at us for trying, she didn't even let us speak. She said "NO ABSOLUTELY NOT!!" And went back inside. This was so rude and unprofessional it scared me and made me feel unwelcome. I'd like her to get fired but that's unlikely. I have been practicing at Be Hot yoga for over ten years. There are a number of reasons why this studio is a great fit for me. First, they have a range of teachers who are all highly professional and experienced. Teachers emphasize technique over athleticism and there has always been a sense of inclusion at the studio. It's a rigorous practice, but they way you are guided there is a sense of meeting you where you are with your practice. As they always say, "everyday it can feel different". For the quality of the staff and the wonderful space and students, this studio is very reasonably priced compared to several others in the area. Get your yoga on without breaking the bank. Parking is very easy to access and it's free! The studio was recently renovated and it's BEAUTIFUL! I strongly recommend trying a class at Be Hot. read more

Took classes here for two months and teachers seemed pretty friendly but one day I had a very bad class in which the teacher repeatedly harped on me and at some point I started to bleed. Instead of letting me leave the room she became confrontational. I ended up walking out but not without her following me and leaving the room full of students behind. I was humiliated, upset and completely unimpressed with the maturity level of the teacher. I emailed the studio to give them feedback on my experience and no one ever responded. Unbelievable! Old-school Bikram style studio in a new, urban type of environment. If you are a Bikram yogi who has been practicing for more than 5 years you will be glad you came! While the studio is nice, the owners are very very strict. The teachers will point out people who didn't completely cover their mat with their towel and criticize if they have a miniscule sweat stain on the floor, which is public humiliation. It didn't happen to me, but I saw it happen to others, and I was embarrassed for them. Also, they lock the doors 5 minutes before class. Once I was 1 minute late and the door was locked. I asked for an extension on my 10 class card because of my late class and they wouldn't give me one. It's not wise for them to be so extremely strict. They will lose customers for it, and ultimately they are doing a disservice to the many Atlanta professionals working extremely long hours who just want to squeeze in a yoga class. read more

If I could rate this place as zero stars I would. Alan, the instructor I had this am, was condescending and rude. I was criticized throughout the entire class in front of the class, for practicing advanced poses and different "lineages". The environment at Be Hot does not encourage individuality and or a sense of mindfulness. While in tree I was told to put my arms down because I was distracting others. This is not yoga. How I feel right now should not be how you feel after a 90 minute practice. I highly encourage beginners to avoid this place because you will never find your true self and practice. I immediately called my first yoga instructor after this class to thank her for teaching me the true art of yoga and the happiness and peace it can bring. From the beginning, I was always encouraged to be myself and not to worry about what others were doing because this was my practice alone . Over the years, I have taken a number of classes at Be Hot Yoga, previously known as Atlanta Bikram. This is a great studio if you are ok with being berated by management over email in a mass message. I first went to Cristina and Jason's studio when it was on Cheshire Bridge about 10 years ago. Now they are at the posh and convenient Urban Fitness studio. I've been to a couple other studios over the years because they had a groupon or something, but I really love this studio and nothing else compares for me. First every teacher is good. They are all different, but they are all great. They take the time to learn your names and they welcome beginners as well as seasoned yogis. Second, Cristina's a bit of a clean freak. I mean she went and grabbed an extra towel for me one class because the towel I brought was too small and I was sweating too much! But I promise you this- that studio is the absolute cleanest I have ever been to- no musty, smelly studio ever. I just love them- you come as you are ( on time or they lock the door) and whether you are having a good balance day or a bad one they always encourage you and you leave so glad that you came! It's the one place I can go no matter how good or how bad my day was and always leave feeling a bit better. And then there is Cristina. She 's absolutely hilarious all the while completely correcting your postures so you get the maximum benefit. If you want a soothing calming voice that could talk you off a ledge, Jason is great for that. But if you want to practice your focus while occasionally bursting into laughter go to Cristina's class. I have heard about the benefits of Bikram or "hot" yoga for years, but I wasn't inspired to try it out myself until after suffering through a particularly brutal, heated "Power Yoga" class while visiting my sister in California and experiencing some kind of natural, monster high as we exited the class. So in December 2009, I found myself clutching a water bottle, beach towel, and yoga mat as I made my way into Urban Body Studios searching for BYA's studio space within. I thought I might die during that first class, but once again, that high hit me as I was walking out, and I signed up for ten classes. So far so good - I have enjoyed all of the teachers I have had, although their personalities and styles of teaching vary greatly, so I imagine that some folks would get attached to a particular teacher. The schedule is great - lots of different times, including a couple of super-late classes (8:15pm) for night owls like me. The studio is great about communication - I get emails whenever there is a change in the schedule, something going on with the heater, etc. - so I never have the disappointing experience of showing up for a canceled class. You can rent a mat and towel for a few bucks apiece, which is a nice option for those who are just getting started and not sure if they want to commit to purchasing yoga gear. The classes are full of people of different ability levels, so there are students you can look to for inspiration, yet you'll (probably) never feel like you're a hopeless case (the way I did in that Cali Power Yoga class). Here's a tip for those starting out - sign up for hot yoga when it's effing freezing outside. I think part of why I kept going back (at least at first) is because it just felt so good to strip down to scant yoga clothes, SWEAT like a mofo, and exit into the frigid air with a warm, healthy glow on my face. One caveat - the floor is carpeted. Put a bunch of hot, sweaty people in a room, and you can imagine what the carpet starts to smell like after a while - yeeeuch. It almost made me want to vomit the first time I went - now I've kind of gotten used to it. read more
