Was here yesterday for a Parisian wax and the experience was just great. I have come here before for waxing, but not the nethers. They use great wax that isn't over or underheated, their demeanor is very professional and friendly (I will second what another reviewer mentioned about enough friendly banter to distract from the slightly uncomfortable thing that is happening to your delicate bits). I have been to many places around Portland for a similar service and this is the best one I've had. Not to mention there wasn't a pushy upsell or product recommendation when the service was completed. Almost no discomfort and a very thorough removal of unwanted hair. Oh yeah, and I had a Yelp offer for a discount, which they graciously honored even though I hadn't read the fine print and technically didn't qualify. Helene's philosophy is affordable skin care and good product. This isn't a "spa scene" with candles and music and cucumber water (omg I love all of that) and Helene told me she just doesn't like giving a face massage, but she's got the knowledge you crave if you want skin care answers. It's meant to be ongoing and daily, change the way you treat your skin and use facials as a tool, not only a pampering. I'm a low-maintenance, beauty-minimalist gal who used to get facials once a year, but only as an indulgence AND when my girl friends talk me into it. I just never saw the benefit in going regularly. Waxing is never fun. I have it done regularly, I go to places that specialize in it and trust an esthetician to do a better job than I could do myself. I expect it to be uncomfortable and to walk out a little red and swollen afterwords. What I don't expect is to look like someone has attacked my face with a cattle prod. As I was driving home from Be Smooth, my face started stinging until it felt like it was on fire. There was a thick layer of sticky residue over the area that had been waxed so, I hoped that if I washed it off the stinging would stop. So, I get home, rinse my face with cool water. It hurts to touch my skin at all. I look in the mirror and see that this is not just the usual redness. I have serious burn marks and it looks like pieces of skin have been ripped off. It's the next day and the pain has subsided but, now I have very noticeable dark scabbing marks on my face. If they scar, I am going to be seriously bummed out. I have never had this happen from waxing before and am pretty freaked out that I paid someone to injure me. I do not use retinol, accutane or any harsh products. I simply have unwanted hair on my face that I regularly have removed because I think it makes me look better. Now, I am hiding in my house, slathering on Neosporin and wondering if Frida Kahlo had the right idea. Right now, learning how to rock my mustache seems a lot less traumatic than the results of this wax session. I really dislike having to write a bad review. I wanted to like this place. Walk-in service, reasonable prices and a good location made it seem like it could be my new go to spot. Others on Yelp seem to have had good experiences with the owner (she was not the person who waxed me). Maybe more training is needed or more care needs to be taken or maybe it was just bad luck. Either way, I would have to be an idiot to ever step foot in this place again. read more

I have been going to "Be Smooth" for my Endermologie treatments. I bought a package of 10 treatments and have had such a great experience. The salon is very clean, the staff is very friendly, and the treatments have been so relaxing and effective for me. I have also tried the stream detox treatment and that felt amazing. This salon also has great prices for beauty treatments. I look forward to coming back to this salon on a regular basis for my maintenance treatments. read more

Giving this little boutique-spa a try is the best thing I have done for myself in a long time. Helene is so wonderful--full of skincare wisdom and acumen--and a charming conversationalist. I went in looking tired, somewhat puffy and full of blemishes; I came out glowing, radiant, completely rejuvenated. The facial she gave me (including a steam, a masque and extractions) cost $40 and was worth twice the price. She tailored everything to my skin type, gave me advice on how to care for my skin at home, offered me products in her shop without forcing them on me, and made me feel totally cared for and refreshed. I can't say this is the "typical" spa experience, as her shop is quite small and--as at least one other reviewer has pointed out--in fairly public view; it doesn't matter. The products she uses are so good and my skin looks INSANE. I'm actually glowing. I also had a parisian bikini wax (like a brazilian, but with hair left in the front). Very quick, neat and Helene was a perfectionist, so not a hair is out of place. Obviously this wasn't as relaxing as the facial, but it's the best wax I've gotten in Portland to date, and I've been everywhere. Couldn't recommend either service more highly! read more

I've been seeing Lydia for a few months now and couldn't be happier with my brows. I have pretty difficult eyebrows to work with and they have been through a lot, I'm so grateful to be in Lydia's hands now. She totally understands the shape and look I'm going for with my brows and creates the cleanest lines! During one of my appointments I mentioned to her that I was having trouble finding a good moisturizer for my face, and she sent me home with a sample and some advice about my skincare routine. That skin cream made my face feel so soft & hydrated, and its much easier to achieve a smooth finish when I'm applying my makeup. Today I came in to have my brows waxed, buy a full size container of the skin cream, and decided to get a Parisian wax for the first time. I expressed my anxieties about getting the Parisian (mostly pain) Lydia was so sweet through the whole process and helped put me at ease, I was surprised at how little it actually hurt! I look forward to adding it to my regular waxing appointments. :) If you're looking for a great ethetician I highly recommend Lydia. Since I've been seeing her, my skin texture and clarity has improved so much. What a nice find in the Pearl! I was walking down from Whole Foods and came across this new boutique right up from Blue Hour. I usually buy my girl friend a gift certificate from Dosha for Christmas but this place looked very inviting and it will be more convenient for her because she works in the neighborhood. I have now had eyebrow waxes and Parisian waxes (leave all but a strip) here. Helene, Jessica and Lauren are all great and very professional! Lauren kept me talking the whole time during my Parisian today, I hardly noticed that hair was being ripped from a very sensitive and personal area! They are very thorough, personable and their prices are the best I've seen for the expertise that these ladies offer! If you express interest in the product lines they carry they are very knowledgable and willing to help, however if you don't bring it up they don't hound you to buy anything extra. I will definitely be coming back here for all my waxing needs! Next I'd like to try the facials, they look heavenly! I am not much of a fan of waxing, too ouchy for me. However, after a few years of procrastinating, I finally decided to get my eyebrows waxed. After reading reviews, I decided to go with Be Smooth. I made the right choice. The technician who was my waxer, Jessica, was very friendly and did an amazing job. I felt comfortable and she properly conditioned my skin pre and post waxing. Be Smooth is one of my favorite discoveries in Portland. Helene is so patient, caring and knowledgeable about skincare. She really takes time to get to know your skin problems. She recommends various products and gives samples first. She is not pushy at all about purchasing products. Be Smooth is a comfortable relaxed atmosphere.
