We came here before we saw a play on Broadway. I think my brother-in-law picked this place. He has a thing for Italian food since it's among some of the only food he'll eat. I thought the food and service were excellent. We had a really nice waitress who was accommodating for 6 of us. I think everyone enjoyed their dishes. I got the scallops which were very good but I kind of wish it had some pasta or something with it, or even just bread. It felt a little incomplete. I also got a glass of red wine. The food was delicious. My partner had salmon and I had tomato soup and bread sticks. Usually I leave bread sticks behind in any other place because they are dry and tasteless. Bea's bread sticks are magic. They have buttery almost fried exterior and soft tasty interior. My pear salad had a right ratio of greens, pears, and tamarind dressing. They place looked understaffed but they got is out on time for the show. After the show I realized I left my credit card behind. Shot out to the well trained staff for keept my card safe and askedto see my ID when I came to pick it it up. I highly recommend this place for a pre show dinner. Bonnie and I were in NY City for my son Shane's wedding last weekend. While we were there, we decided to see Little Shop of Horrors off Broadway. Right next door is Bea and based on its reviews we decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did, this speak ez vibed restaurant was everything we hoped for. Brick walls with multiple classic movies playing on them, subtle lighting, gorgeous bar. Other reviews I read, complained it was too loud. Maybe it was because we were there right at opening, 5pm, but our party of 14 had no trouble conversing and it was almost full by 5:30. The service was impeccable and started with their graciously combing our 3 reservations into one large table. We had 2 servers who took our drink and food orders and everything came out promptly and prepared correctly. Our check was delivered as soon as the dishes were cleared and we were right on time for the show. We started with my usual Grey Goose Martini, a little dirty, it was prepared perfectly in a classic martini glass just the way I like. Bonnie tried one of their specialty cocktails, the "Anything Goes" and said it was the perfect compliment to her dinner. We started with the roasted beet salad and it was delicious, they applied just the right amount of sherry vinaigrette to highlight the mixed greens, but not to much as to make it soggy. We shared the Seabass and the macaroni and cheese side as our entrée. The macaroni and cheese was creamy, and a perfect blend of mozzarella, Gouda and Parmesan. The pasta was perfectly al dente, which is hard to pull off in a baked dish. The Chilean sea bass was cooked to perfection, crispy exterior and flaky interior that was moist yet firm and fully cooked. The accompanying buttered corn, brussle sprouts, red onion and micro greens complimented it perfectly. We started with the cheese board and a bottle of Domaine Carneros Brut Rose. Charcuterie was not available due to supply chain issues. Stopped here before heading to see Harry Potter on Broadway, and it turned out to be a great choice. The location is super convenient only about a 10-minute walk to the Lyric Theatre, making it perfect for pre- or post-show dining. We had a reservation but ended up running late due to traffic. The staff was very understanding and accommodating, which I really appreciated. For a Saturday night, it wasn't overly packed, and the atmosphere had a nice, dark, relaxing vibe. We started off with cocktails, which were delicious. I was a little bummed that the lamb chops and scallops weren't available, but we pivoted to a few small plates and two entrées. Everything we ordered came out with great flavor. The portions are tapas-style, very shareable, and just right for two people. I'd round this up to 3.5 stars. We went for an early dinner at 5pm -- and with an off-Broadway theater showing Little Shop of Horrors a few doors down, definitely recommend reservations, even if on the early side! Bea gives old school speakeasy vibes, and the decor really is wonderful. My friend had the shepherd's pie and really enjoyed it; I had a cream of tomato soup which was fine. They chef pureed bell peppers with the tomato, which I don't care for, so not my favorite. The bread that came on the side was not typical bread and perfect for a tomato soup. I also had the pork dumplings. The dumplings themselves were excellent; the sauce had some kind of herb in it that I didn't think worked. I think they would've been better with a more traditional dumpling sauce (soy sauce-based rather than sweet/spicy). Our real challenge is that the place is LOUD. We got to sit in a two-top that was close to the door, and even there, it was loud once it filled up. I think if we'd sat elsewhere we wouldn't have been able to have a conversation. The lighting is also dark, especially in the restroom -- so not a very accessible place. I said to my friend that I'd like to try Bea again during lunchtime in the hopes it wouldn't be as noisy (maybe it would be, who knows? Theater district, amiright?). Bea was an enjoyable dinner spot. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were very nice. They have local beers plus a decent selection of wine and cocktails. The kale caesar was delicious! The eggplant and tofu was also good but the eggplant was a little tough. It had a nice moderate spice to it though. I have now been to Bea for both dinner and brunch and all I can say is wow - food here has been consistent and very good. The plus is that it is close enough to the theaters but just far enough to enjoy a bit of respite. I would recommend coming here before or after a show for a bite and a sip. The staff is always kind and accommodating. The first time I came here for dinner, I got the green pasta - the shrimp was cooked to perfection. I sit at the bar every visit and love the feeling of being at home or at the bar with friends when speaking to the bartenders / mixologists. Coming off a 4 hour long Amtrak ride, this spot was a quaint and cozy welcome to the city. We were able to get a seat at the bar, which has full food service as well. I will note service could have been faster, but it matched the sleepy sunday vibes. As for coffee they offer cappuccinos and lattes in addition to drip, but I wished they were larger. I wasn't too impressed by the menu, felt it wasn't very creative but the food is great! Brunch $30/person deal is one to take advantage of (choice of app, main and side for $30 vs $37). Avocado toast could be a main of itself, smoked salmon is only a few bites but packed with flavor. Quiche is light and decadent, scrambled eggs are typical. My favorite restaurant in Times Square! As a New Yorker I truly hate being in the Times Square area but this restaurant is so cozy and doesn't make you anxious about the crowds! It's a great place to go to as a date and/or work dinner. I went with my colleagues who were in town for the week and they loved it! Everything was so delicious. For my main, I had the scallops which again were good, but honestly not what I was expecting in terms of them being served in a cast-iron skillet. They weren't bad, but definitely not how I would have chosen to have them prepared or served. Service was very good, I must say. Drinks were good as well and overall we did enjoy our experience. We had to wait a bit for our table, which was not enjoyable considering the restaurant was packed, but it was a busy night so that's understandable. We visited the restaurant for an early dinner after our matinee - while we were one of the first, the restaurant filled up quickly (reservations recommended). Great ambiance. As we were early, we could choose our table - we decided on the "outdoor garden" room - the room is fully enclosed with the glass ceiling and a few trees inside, gives you an impression of "outdoor dining". Excellent food throughout. We shared duck turnover and spicy meatballs - all delicious. My main dish was Miso Salmon Tataki which you can choose at any level of donness, similar to a steak. The dish was very tasty, and so were all others - chicken, scallops, Uncle Tommy's pie - all delicious, with a reasonable portion size. Excellent service - prompt, friendly, attentive. Great food. Great service. Even better desert. I read many reviews about the macaroni and cheese so I shared that with my teen. It was unbelievable. I also got the Caesar salad with salmon which was the best I have had yet. The dressing was spectacular. For dessert, we shared the chocolate chip brownie which was divine. What we dont understand is that the restaurant was not very crowded, and was honestly fairly empty. We had flagged down our waiter who was grouped together with all of the other waiters by the time we decided we needed to leave. Additionally we asked for french fries instead of mashed potatoes for one entree (since both of our entrees came with the same compliments). We received an order of french fries, in addition to the mashed potatoes that we had tried to substitute, and both showed up on the bill. Good was great. We stopped in for brunch and were very happy with the eggs Benedict. The candied bacon was delicious as well. I would not reccomend the mimosas, they were a bit weak and clearly premade. Service started great then it took 15min after we finished to get our check closed out, we were sitting at the bar and it wasn't busy, bartender just wasn't paying attention. The asparagus and grape tomatoes went really well with the baby scallops (which they give you a nice big portion!). And the white truffle, crispy garlic, and oyster sauce just brought the whole meal together. It was amazing and light! I didn't feel overly stuffed after eating. I went to a play with my friends Katie M. and Maka E. last month, and we needed a place to eat before the show. Katie found Bea through a friend who works around Broadway and recommended it as a solid option in a pocket of Manhattan without a ton of amazing restaurants. She booked a table and we met up for a lovely 6:00 dinner. The place was cute and cozy, with a warm, bustling atmosphere. We got a booth near the door, and it was a comfortable perch, conducive to catching up after a long time apart. Service was polite and prompt, which suited our needs, but definitely on the fast, casual side. All of our food came out in like a ten-minute window, which is not always ideal for a sit-down dinner. I had time for one drink, and I made it count. The Maracuya Mama was sweet and spicy, with Leblon cachaça, Tanteo chipotle tequila, Saint Germain, passionfruit purée, spicy honey, and chili flakes. The food was quite tasty. The menu was wide-ranging, with something for everyone, and we got an eclectic mix of things to share. My favorite dish was the pork dumplings, five juicy dumplings with ground pork, ginger, garlic, plum sauce, micro greens, and julienned carrots, served with plenty of sweet chili sauce. The spicy lamb meatballs were great, too, with smoked chipotle, tomato sauce, tzatziki, and pita bread. We got two salads, and both were good, if not memorably so. The pear salad came with baby arugula, dates, and tamarind dressing; the kale caesar with parmesan, croutons, and for a bit extra, some strips of chicken. The miso salmon tataki was a decent piece of Atlantic salmon with wasabi avocado, garlic spinach, jasmine rice, and black sesame seeds. Bea is a nice neighborhood spot with quality fare and a pleasant ambiance.
