I was there on August 7 and was told a pipe burst. came back today August 21 and was met with the same answer for the smell that has only gotten worse. shame on corporate and owner of this place for making their employees smell that while they work. I could barely stand there and talk to the lovely lady behind that counter. you've had ample time to fix this issue clearly you don't care. it's been well over a week and you have done nothing to fix it. DISGUSTING. i don't recommend this facility. their complete disregard for their customers and employees happiness is noted. disgusting. I have been a customer of Beach Bum for over 20 years, I mostly use the forest hills location and I mostly deal with Jesse. Every time I go in the store she remembers my name, she is more than accommodating if I haven't had time to book an appointment online, the wait is always minimal. But as well as the cheery welcome, the store is always meticulous, it is clean, it is neat, it is tidy, it is bright and it is welcoming. She is a pleasure to deal with, the service they provide is way above standard, and it is an all-around great experience each and every time. Love you beach bum forest hills!!! I have only tried the customized airbrush tanning, and I highly recommend it. I was faithful to Sundara, which is supposed to be one of the best airbrush places in NYC, but when I moved across the street from this Beach Bum location I figured it was worth a try. I'm so glad I did because the airbrush artist (JoJo), does a great job and she really knows what she's doing. It is also less expensive than most airbrush places if you get a package. The location is very clean and the airbrush room is a nice setup with plenty of privacy. JoJo really listens to understand the look you are going for and mixes the solution to achieve it. Like most airbrush places the solution smells okay at first (if you don't mind a vanilla/pina colada type scent), but as the DHA develops it starts to smell not-so-good. The good thing is that you can rinse off after 4 hours, while many places make you wait 6 or 8. The only negative is that in my experience the people working reception know nothing about airbrush tanning (not even pricing!). If you have questions find out when JoJo is in and she will be able to explain everything. read more

Let me start of with saying, I've been to most if not all locations of beach bum in queens, and this location does not compare to any other. I do think I walked in on the right day, because the two girls there were just amazing! Jenny & Amanda! They were so welcoming and quick to INFORM me on so much. I think most of us are scared to ask " stupid questions" or ask for guidance, but we all know we're different and a tanning experience can go either way, they helped me chose what was right for me they took their time to educate me more on how to get exactly what I'm looking for, you can really tell they will make sure you don't walk out of there burnt or like a UmpaLumpa lol. Let me start by saying that my complexion is literally the color of snow. I go tanning to get a more normal skin color but really more for my mental health. It feels good, especially during cold weather months. I also worked in a tanning salon for two years. Beach Bum has my heart. Now, I took away one star because the damn pushing of making an appointment through the app literally brought me to the point of almost canceling my monthly membership of 101 dollars. I'm not the only one to be bothered and baffled by this. The manager who oversees the Queens stores was so fantastic when addressing the email I sent corporate. I believe her name is Brittany. I understand that many businesses' like to use apps now but having the staff push it, is off putting. That aside, the store is clean. The beds are maintained and the staff are nice. read more

*********UPDATE AS OF March 2009*********** I since upgraded my $99 bronze yearly package to the VIP for $55 a month and I kind of regret it as of right now. Ive lowered my rating after a few recent experiences. I get put into a bed with face lamps that were out which really pissed me off because of course at that point Im already covered in lotion and undressed so I sucked it up, nothing offered for my inconvenience at all other than 5 mins in another bed which will probably cause me to burn since it was a face bulb out. Good thinking, huh. Then I go there last night (3/24) very late since they are 24 hrs and theres no one at the front desk. I call the phone and dont even hear it ringing. I wait 5 minutes in the bitter cold then proceed to tap on the door progressively harder over the next 15 or so minutes. NOTHING. I sit in my car another few minutes and call the Astoria store to see if theres some number they have that might wake someone up because its obvious whoever is working is sleeping in the back somewhere. NOTHING. So now Im ass out on my tan for the night, mind you I have a VIP membership for $55 extra a month. This was eventually resolved and they were very apologetic and allowed me to cancel my VIP without the normal 30 day notice. -------------------ORIGINAL REVIEW------------------ This place is nice. It has a very upscale feel to it and the people working there are terrific. Im new to tanning and am really doing it to get some UV exposure during the shorter days of winter. I dont know if this will help me feel better in winter but what the hell might as well try it. The tan is just a bonus. Everything just feels nice when you walk in the door. It looks clean and the beds are very nice. I signed up for a Bronze package and the guy there upgraded me for my 1st time to a titanium machine which I thought was great. The only reason I didnt go 5 stars is parking. ITS A FRIGGIN NIGHTMARE! I know its not their fault but damn I drove around 20+ mins the other day and just gave up and went back later. The good thing is they are open 24/7 so I can usually find parking later at night, but not everyone has the schedule I have so be prepared if you have to go during the day and drive there. The new location is a hole in the wall, way too small and parking is impossible. The cheapest monthly package (and it's not cheap) will get you a stand up machine, no usage of beds. Meanwhile, other Beach Bum locations will allow you to use their beds for the same package deal, but not this one. I will never return to this location again. read more

Giving them 2 stars because they do have good beds, but the staff is NOT friendly, almost like they are doing you a favor, they got super cheap and don't even give out goggles claiming it's due to health department violation, and the floor in the rooms is disgusting: vacuum/wash those matts for Pete's sake, people stand barefoot on them! The bathroom is never clean: always either missing soap or paper towels. It's like no one gives a damn, place just exists because no other tanning salons are around. And all the problems are easily fixed too. What a shame. read more

I'd give *five stars* if I was rating this on my personalized air-brush tan experience alone. One day, the Mystic Tan was not working. That day changed everything. On a recent Friday, I walked in to do my regular Platinum level bed and Mystic cocktail, only to find the Mystic was down. The salesperson convinced me to try an airbrush tan, and reluctantly, I slapped down $25 bucks. She said "you won't even need to go in the [tanning] bed after." JoJo, the airbrush technician was sweet, professional and knowledgeable. "How dark do you want to be?" "Dark!" I said. "The darkest you can get?" "Yes!!!" I said. "Okay, you're easy." She had me totally at ease by that point- she knew exactly what she was doing. After she blended a beautiful color, she sprayed two coats and let me dry off. When I was dry, she explained that i should wait four hours, rinse (no soap) and shower normally the next day. I was amazed at how good I looked when I left the salon! The spray smelled a little like vanilla too. I didn't shower that night, but I did shower normally the next morning. While a lot of color rinsed off, it did not stain the bathtub, nor did it leave any streaks on my skin. I was bronze, not orange. I looked thinner, hotter and felt fantastic. My co-worker said "you look like you spent a month in Tahiti." I've been in here many times for a bed tan. The first thing I noticed about this location is that the employees are skilled sales people. They are trained to sell and are very good at selling packages and products. Beach Bum is a bit more expensive than my favorite tanning salon (Sunrise to Sunset) but the Forest Hills Beach Bum is open 24 hours and is very convenient. They have a good selection of beds, stand-ups and lotions. The Mystic Tan booth is great for photos. It makes you orange for the first day, but it is quick, safe and really looks good if you are going to be in a lot of pictures. (BTW, being orange isn't such a bad thing, anyway. Annoying Orange has over a million hits on Youtube, so it can only help one's popularity) If you are really looking to get healthy color, I highly recommend the airbrush, however, because the introductory price is about the same as one of the higher level beds. read more

For those of us not blessed with a golden tan complexion year round, we need to resort to either this kind of a place, or bottle tans to give us that sunkissed glow. I prefer this route only because the bottle bronze doesn't help us near-albino folk to build up a tolerance to the sun. I had a VIP package for 60$/month last year (canceled only because it didn't figure into my freshly unemployed budget and I started to get worried about eventually resembling a baseball glove) and this was by far my favorite location in Queens. Very big, clean, friendly and not overly pushy staff with sound recommendations for which beds or lotions to use per your skin type. Only problem is, if you don't get a special, tanning at these chain places is pretty pricey. read more

They added a new bed which is absolutely heavenly, the new bright accent colors on the walls and towels as well as the meticulously clean space will make you never wanna leave!!! I have been coming to beach bum when there were about 4 locations total!! and now they are at a larger space and although parking was better on 73rd and queens blvd I won't hold it against you. I have seen staff come and go and come and go into mgmt I must say Jesi is the sweetest thing the place always smells amazing in the morning she's polite and remembered me by name quickly I also love and well maybe this is my age showing but I love that it's quiet in the morning I want to be able to relax and maybe catch a 15 minute nap not feel like I'm in a club because of the pounding blasting house music and now you can't even adjust the volume. Anyway Jesi is great she remembers the room I like and I love the serenity of the mornings being quiet! read more
