It is September 15th 2024. I can't believe that Vespa would allow this shop to be an authorized sales and service representative for their company. I brought my new 300 for it's first service and the owner told me he couldn't work on my scooter and to come pick it up because I asked him what type of oil did he plan to use for the service. This guy is extremely rude and doesn't want to hear any opinion other than his own. I'm a petroleum engineer so oil is kind of my thing and for me to ask such a basic question and be asked to pick up the scooter after I dropped it off without working on it is why you can read so many poor reviews from so many people. How this guy stays in business is beyond me. read more

Lee is awesome. I had my Vespa brought in and he Took great care of it. it's now running like a champ. The place is tiny but they sell new Vespas as well as other brands. Lots of accessories land helmets. They are very busy but he was Kind enough to get on my repair right away. Super nice guy. If you're looking for a scooter, I highly recommend popping in!! read more

Was looking for an oil change for my scooter, called around and found this place. Made a same day appointment. Took my scooter in and Le(Lee) did the oil change and in addition looked through my scooter. He adjusted the front brakes, filled my tires because they were 50% low and the bonus part was he cleaned the paint stain on my seat! (Took me like 2 days to notice, he went above and beyond!) Grateful I found this great shop. Highly recommend this place. I've always wanted to check out this store in the Laguna canyon, glad I did. Lee the owner is rude and discourteous. He makes you feel like you owe him because he is in Laguna! I took my vespa in for the first service and he was very unhappy that I took my Vespa there because I bought mine at a different location. He said people go and buy their Vespas elsewhere at a lower price and use us for convenience. He also added if there is any warranty issues with your scooter I won't touch it because Vespa only pays us %10 of what they should! (That's a sign of dissatisfaction with Vespa in my book) I wondered if that's a Vespa policy that you should take warranty issues to the same dealer you purchased from. So I called other dealerships to ask and they all said it does not matter where you buy your Vespa; warranty issues should be addressed by any dealer no matter where you made your purchase. As a matter of fact when he was done with the service he told me the oil diptick is broken. When I told him my scooter under warranty he said you should contact the people who you bought from and have them fix it!!!!! That's simply unhelpful, rude and discourteous. Vespa is a prestigious Italian brand in the scooter world and when you buy that brand you're buying into that lifestyle of fun and pure enjoyment, but Lee has no clue what Vespa represents. Being rude and discourteous to customers is certainly not befitting of the Vespa brand and it is not fun nor enjoyable and should not be part of any business much less Vespa! read more

I am the owner of a 1974 Piaggio Ciao moped and need some minor repairs and service. I found the Beach Cities website and tried to call to talk to someone to see if they could help. I was specific in the message that I left, relating the type of moped and the service I need, which is to replace the front fork locking device. I didn't get a response and knew that the store was open so elected to drive the 10 miles from my home to the Beach Cities dealership. First let me say that I have been restoring the Piaggio in order to sell it and use the proceeds to purchase a new E scooter and thought that I might kill two birds with one stone by seeing what they had to offer. On arrival at the shop, I introduced my self through my Covid mask to the owner and related what I needed to know. I didn't get to the buying part because he abruptly told me that he didn't work on mopeds and, when asked, didn't know who did. I said that I had just driven 10 miles to get here and had left a message on his phone, with no response. He said, "I heard your message and didn't return the call because I don't work on mopeds". I guess is was my fault for not knowing that in advance so to save me the trouble of the trip. And who actually expects a phone message to be responded to? Now I am sure that this person has had a going concern for many years and has many devoted customers who appreciate his service. Unfortunately, I won't be one of his future customers. I am sure that there are many other concerns who have a better idea of how to take care of perspective customers in a kindly way. Sorry, Beach Cities Mopeds, but maybe you should consider changing the name of your business to give a better idea of who you are serving. Lee was very rude to me today because my husband ended up buying my Vespa from a dealer near his work who charged $1000 less than price Lee gave me. Today Lee told said to me, "I only have time to service people who support my business." He made it clear that he won't be helping me. Maybe it was because I realized after arriving at his shop to look at Ram cell phone holder kit that he had it for $78 plus $40 to install. It's $48 on internet site and sooo easy to install that I can do it myself. I was shocked at his price and couldn't pay it. I love finding great businesses to work with, but I'm also not here to pay inflated prices in order to be treated well. I'll gladly spend my money where it's appreciated and I'm treated well. I won't forget how he teated me today. Apparently, after spending an hour selling me on your product, buying from someone else makes me and my money not worth your time. Lee is a prick! He is a greedy man who lacks all the right tools to run a successful Laguna Beach business. I brought my scooter to his shop the other week to see how much new brakes would be for the front and rear of my bike, because I was planning on selling my scooter on Craigslist and wanted it to at least have brand new brakes. While I was there I met a guy who was interested in buying a new scooter from Lee, but his budget was too low for Lee's overpriced bikes. So I met him in the parking lot and chatted it up with him and he was very interested in my scooter. His concerns were that my scooter didn't idle properly and my starter needed to be replaced. He was in a rush so he asked if I would get an estimate on the parts and labor from Lee, and we would factor that into the sale price of the bike. So I went back in and got a rough estimate of the repairs and contacted the guy afterward with the numbers. A couple of days later I called the guy and he had informed me that he went into Lee's shop and wanted to double check the numbers that I had given him for the repairs, (smart guy). He informed me that Lee had done nothing but bad mouth my scooter and advised him to only buy from his shop and from no outside sellers. He added that he did not like Lee and he was very rude about the whole situation. The guy made it very clear to Lee that he could not afford any of his bikes at the shop. So instead of just verifying the repair costs, Lee went out of his way to talk crap on my bike--which now gets him NOTHING! The guy was willing to spend over $400 at Lee's shop on repairs after buying my bike! What an idiot move... In addition, Lee charges astronomical prices for repairs. My back tire blew out and it was a whopping $182.00 to replace it (tire was $70 and the labor/tax was $112!!). $112 for 30 minutes of labor!? LEE IS SHADY, STAY AWAY FROM BEACH CITY MOPEDS!!!!!!! P.S. The guy still bought my scooter and he ended up taking it to San Clemente Scooter & Cycle Supply for the repairs :) read more

Took my older 1985 150cc scooter in. It sat for 2 years and would not start/idle, yet it would start and run for a bit on starter fluid. I figured it was a carb issue and needed a cleaning so I took it to Lee's shop and death with him. He was nice at first.. After having my bike for 2 days, he said that my bike was essentially totaled and it would be never worth putting any money into it because it would cost more than what it was worth and told me to come get it. He did not charge me. I told him its a beater bike in good condition and just need it for running around beach towns, not a commuter. I just need it to get running again. It ran amazing prior to storage. He said it would cost me $700 to $1k for a new carb, gas line, gas tank, etc... I was freaked out not waiting to pay that much on such an old bike. He also let me know he would not do the work at his shop because he won't let someone spend that much on a "bike that isnt worth it." Well I was freaked and was about to sell it "as is" on Craigslist then I decided to contact San Clemente Scooters and explained my situation. I told him " I just need it to run, I don't want to spend a lot of $$. SC Scooter cleaned the Carb for $125 and with oil change, spark plug and gear oil change he got me out the door running great for $200 in less than a week. Lee almost had me ditch my perfectly good scooter because he 1. Didnt want to fix it. 2. Is way over priced 3. Wanted to fix things that I didnt ask for, even after I said I just want it to run, not restore. 4. Would not listen to customers wishes (just get it running, not over-hauling!) My bike is back, it fires instantly, even on cold beach mornings, has the pep of the 150cc it is and gets up to 65 mph and 95-105 mpg. read more

Came here with a Groupon deal. $22 for a 4 hour moped rental which is a great deal! They have a good variety of scooters and about 6(?) mopeds. I went with a group of 4 and made reservations for the morning. Customer service was pretty good. My main complaint is that we were required to make a reservation in a specific time block 9-1 or 1-5 (or maybe it was 10-2 or 2-6) Either way that was what the man told us. Even if we got there at 11 with a reservation for 4 hours (what we paid for), we could only rent it until 1. When we arrived that morning I had asked why and he said it was because there were other people who had a reservation at 1 for 4 hours. That makes sense for them to only rent it out in specific 4 hour blocks but that should've been included in the fine print. When we arrived back with our mopeds at around 1:15. There were no other people waiting for the bikes, nor did he make it seem like he was in a rush to get us off for the next people. I really think he just said we HAD to come back at that time IN CASE someone else wanted to rent it for 4 hours. Shady. Other than that, good quantity of bikes. Good location. It's scary pulling out onto Laguna Canyon Road and riding down especially if you're a first time rider, but once you're on the busy streets there's lots to do and eat and easy to get around. Fantastic place, great prices and the owners are super nice. I wanted a scooter for my wife and tried working with a dealer here in San Diego but they charged destination charges to the tune of $800 more on a $2500 unit and seemed generally disinterested in helping me. So searched and I found Sherri and Lee a of Beach City Mopeds and they took excellent care of me and even delivered the scooter to Carlsbad. Really super. Highly recommend! read more

My fiancé and I came in clueless about scooters, needing something cost effective for my 5 mile commute to work and Lee was so helpful! I ended up purchasing a Lance Cali Classic 150cc and I had the best experience. Lee was very attentive and asked a ton of questions to get me on the right bike in the right price range. I'm used to giving salesman a number and having them push the limits, but he was very respectful of my budget and even asked if I was in college which lead to me getting an awesome student discount from the Lance company which put me under budget and allowed us to purchase more safety equipment and accessories. He delivered the bike to my parent's house in LN so that I could practice in a quiet neighborhood away from busy streets (since I just got my M2), but also offered to pick it back up and deliver it to my apartment in Anaheim if I don't feel comfortable driving it up Moulton on the 55+mph roads to our place after the first couple of weeks of practice. After buying the bike, the bank deposited our check into their account only to reject it the next day because they thought it was a fraudulent charge. Lee was very understanding and we were able to bring him the cash a couple of days later when we were back in Laguna. We will continue to do business with Lee and Beach City Mopeds in the future. read more

I'm new to the area, and took my Genuine Buddy for some much needed maintenance. Lee (owner) was very nice. I had an oil change, and a batter swap. Service price was fair and parts seemed legit. Lee went above and beyond and cleaned up some scuffs on my scooter. We talked a bit and he made some recommendations on additional parts to buy that my scooter needs, but didn't pressure me into buying right then and there (I know what I need to buy). He also adjusted my brake tension, which I didn't specifically ask for. All in all, I had a good experience. I will be coming back for routine service, and will more than likely buy my next scooter here. read more

After dropping off my Chinese scooter/2002, with less than 500 miles to get a basic tune-up/carburetor clean, I get a call no less than 15 minutes later from Lee to come pick it up. He said this thing is a mess! He demanded that I return immediately and pick it up! I asked if I could pickup in a couple of hours and he demanded again that I come right away! Upon arrival, the scooter was left outside with the key on the scooter and no one around to help load it in my truck! The shop was closed for lunch. Anyone could have stolen the thing and I would have had no recourse! If I could give a no-star rating I would! Lee is totally unprofessional! read more

Stopped in to get some info and the guy that worked there was a prick. I have no idea how they are still in business. I was simply trying to get information on rentals and he said " your girlfriend has never ridden and you want to put her on one?!?!" Like I was trying to harm her. Then he told me I needed a motorcycle license to drive one as if I was 12. Im 41 and I have ridden and owned numerous bikes. I couldn't believe how rude he was. Our experience of this local business was not very pleasant to say the least. Customer service is not at the top of their list. The owner was very rude in letting us know that we basically have to be professional motor cyclists to rent his scooters or mopeds. The other reviews on this page definitely make sense. This place is a total rip off!! Took my scooter in for a complete tune up, the fat guy said he would flush all liquids, replace spark plug and remove and give the carburetor a complete over haul...the charge was $350!! After closer inspection by another scooter mechanic, we found he didn't do anything!! He only sprayed starter fluid on the spark plug!! On the invoice he put one hour labor, one hour $350? I think Lee and his wife Sherry owns and run this place. They are very helpful and nice without being pushy car sales people. Let us looked around and answered questions and gave hints and tips for begininers like me. Lee was very up front about the bikes and that some accessories are extra depending on the bike. Other places don't tell u that until the end. I only stopped by to look at scooters, they have a good selection. I learned depending on the size of the scooter , you need a motocycle license $31 at DMV for permit. And u can take the driving test at the dmv or bypass that by paying for the class $250 and that qualifies for the driving test part with DMV. This was important to know since I need to get this stuff already before my purchase since you can't ride it without a permit. When I'm ready for purchase, I'm definitely coming here for my scooter. ( I've been to Malcom Smithh Motorsport in riverside, BAIT and SWItch ! so stay away from that place!) I've also looked at a few smaller places in Huntington beach but not as good of a selection. read more

We came to Beach City Mopeds last year after going to several places looking to buy our first scooter, Lee and his wife Sherry were great, Lee showed us all the different models and took the time to ask us what we wanted to do with it, based on what we told him he recommended a great mid size scooter to break us in. Our credit was not that great but they said not to worry and got us financed. Most places would just say sorry come back with cash and push you out the door but not these guys, they really cared about us and got the deal done. They offered something that no one else did CUSTOMER SERVICE, a dying art!!! We were so happy with our first experience that this year we decided to upgrade to a full size scooter to take trips on, we went back to see Lee and Sherry and they REMEMBERED us and were HAPPY to see us come back in. Lee got us a great deal on a full size scooter and once again helped us get financed, we picked it up today and we are extremely happy and excited.
