This was our first time here and we were a little disappointed. The wait for food was long. We had our young children with us which makes getting food in a timely manner even more important. Our food come our hot and fresh. I wasn't blown away by the quality however. Don't get me wrong, our food (seafood Mac n cheese & shrimp delish) was good, but we were expecting better for the price we paid. Customer service was great, otherwise I'd give fewer stars. The view is also a fun change for central Illinois. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back anytime soon. read more

Food is good and so is the staff but they completely overbooked themselves so we had to wait 2 hours, literally 2 hours to get our food. On a Tuesday evening I had reservations and made a request for outside. The hostess showed me to a table inside and said there were no tables on the deck. I said I'd be right back. I went outside to talk to a friend and there was an empty table next her. She said it had been empty quite awhile. Geez!!! I didn't make a fuss! Then I ordered an entree salad. Nice restaurant here in Decatur. Beautiful Lakeview. Drinks and food are pricey, and ok with taste. We had to sit at bar due to the long wait for a table. Because of the long anticipated wait and rush..the bar waitress asked if we needed something else every few minutes, which made us cut our girls night out short there. Everything was just okay. Based in the reviews and photos I had much higher expectations. The mac and cheese was bland, steak over-cooked, oysters had too much stuff drowning out the beauty of the oyster flavor, server was nice but over-the-top. He made too much conversation so we couldn't even talk to each other uninterrupted. He was a bit intrusive. Had a party of 17 decide to dine here today. Arrived @ 11:15. Website and yelp said they opened at noon. Waited until noon. Ghost town. Probably 30 total people waiting to go in. Finally around 12:15 a local also waiting to eat with his family was able to get in touch with the owner and the owner said they decided not to open that day because of an event. No signs or nothing. Service is always great, food is always good. If you know me, I'm a mac & cheese connoisseur, and this is up there in the top of the mac & cheeses for me. SO GOOD! I do recommend getting the half portion unless you're starving. The scallops are very good. I've also have the Florida Grouper sandwich - delicious. Spinach and Artichoke dip is a must. Crab Cakes - a little on the spicy side for me. Definitely a nice date spot, as there are views of the lake from most seats in the restaurant. There is a small bar with TVs also. Saturday night about 7pm. Earlier high school homecoming diners were in the process of getting to their dances and the place was definitely not that busy. There may have been some event in one of the side rooms but it was small if it was happening at all. Suffice to say they were not that busy, and besides that, restaurants that have been in business for a while should know how to staff based on expected customer flow. Our service person apologized multiple times for various things, and mentioned that she had been overwhelmed. I wasn't getting it. She was nice enough but the service was sub-par. She completely forgot to bring bread, and when she asked about how the soup was (our first course), we said it was kind of bland. She replied that bisque is an acquired taste. Huh? Actually I've had better tomato soup out of the can. The shrimp bisque had no shrimp and the mouth feel, instead of feeling creamy like a bisque should, was very watery. It was quite the let-down. The draught beer I ordered was off -- either the tap lines needed cleaning or there was soap residue in the glass. Definitely tasted soapy. The main courses were ok to good -- hence the 2 stars instead of 1. Wife had steak teriyaki, which was pretty tasty. I had mini filets, one horseradish "crust" (which wasn't crusty at all) and one bleu cheese. Tasted ok, but far from great. Service person forgot to ask me my cooking preference when we ordered, and I spaced that out until food was being served. We brought up the oversight, and service person said her notes were for medium. I'm a rare to medium rare guy, and would have sent them back if they had been cooked to medium temp. Fortunately for all concerned, the medium filets were actually cooked to a pretty decent (for me) medium rare stage. Call it karma. I still have to wonder about overall kitchen cooking skills. We will not be going back, despite the nice waterfront location. read more

I went here in late winter and found the place to be very relaxing. I liked sitting down and looking out on the still lake. I never knew that about myself. Kind of makes me wish I had a pond to look at my house... Nah a pond would just be a mosquito hatchery in the summer. My friend loved the sea food they served and I thought my dish was pretty good too. I talked to several people about this place and they all had decent things to say about the place. One thing I appreciated was where the restaurant was located. I couldn't smell the two very large corn processing plants in this town which can stink the whole town up at times with rotting corn smell. We had a reservation for 8pm and were seated promptly at 8. Wait staff was friendly and atmosphere was great. 3 of our 5 meals were excellent the other 2 had issues. One was not prepared correctly but taste was fine, and the steak was well done instead of Medium as requested, flavor was fine. We did have to wait hour and a half to get our meals, however enjoyed a good bottle of wine during the wait :). Although we had a few issues, I would rate the experience as a 4 star as the manager recognized the issues and wait time and compted our meals as appropriately as unacceptable service for a restaurant of this caliber. We have always been treated with excellent and timely service. This place is classy and cultured. The food is mouthwatering too. I love the Mediterranean Chicken Pita! They also have great tator tots, salads, and mac and cheese. Somewhat overpriced (had lunch there yesterday, a pita, side salad, and iced tea was $14.50 before tip), but good food and friendly service. Beach House has great food and a wonderful atmosphere. Check out the menu online before you go. The menu mainly consists of sea food however there are options like burgers. The alcohol beverages are VERY expensive. We enjoyed our window seat with a view of the lake. read more

We have eaten here several times for special events. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is on one occasion my steak was a little dry and overcooked. I also didn't find my one lunchtime visit as good as dinner, but I have to say if you are a fan of the tater tot they are the best here. Most times though the food is perfect and the service has always been amazing. I love the atmosphere as well. It is a great place to have a nice glass of wine and a steak. We have eaten here several times, but I had never completed a review. We decided to eat here, since we both love the place and our daughter had followed us up there to meet up with friends to have her dinner for prom there. Since we did not have reservations, we had to sit at a small table at the bar area, but that was perfectly okay. Even though there was a wedding reception going on in a larger part of the building and several groups of teenagers for various proms, it was not loud in there like you would've thought. We decided to order the crab cakes as an appetizer for both of us, and I ordered a half a dozen oyster Rockefeller to try. The crab cakes seemed to be slightly under done and not very warm. They were not as good as ones we've had there before. The oyster Rockefeller was delicious, but it was not very warm either and came out after the crabcakes had been finished. I realize that they were extremely busy that evening, but every time we've been in there, they have been extremely busy. We pretty much let it slide because we did not want to take up too much of our time because we were not sure if we would be taking more photos or not of our daughter and her group. Our entrées arrived pretty much on top of my oysters arriving. I ordered the Chilean Seabass, garlic potato mashed, and French green beans. We both ordered the garlic mashed potatoes with our meals and agreed that neither one of us could taste any garlic. The Chilean Seabass was delicious, but for something that was supposedly pan seared, that did not appear to be the case. It looked more like it'd just been baked in the oven with not a sear in sight. The sauce that the fish came on it was OK, but that's pretty much my only opinion on it. There was not much flavor to it. The French green beans were good. Once again, my food was barely warm. If it had been any other night and not my daughter's prom night, we would've sent all of it back that was not warm or barely warm. In the past, this restaurant has served very delicious food served at the appropriate temperature when we have gone there. My high hopes for the Beach House based on other reviewers were dashed on the shores of Lake Decatur. First the good- and there was a lot of good! Location overlooking the lake is great! Server was great! Decor was good. Two appetizers were excellent-Spinach Artichoke dip and also the Mussels. We all had desserts and they were great! The main course is where we had our trouble. In hindsight, I should have mentioned it to the waiter. Will give you another try sometime--maybe we were there on an off night.- upgraded to 4 stars for follow-up. read more
