We ordered two breakfast burritos, coffee, and a 50/50 acai bowl. The burritos and coffee came out in good time and were fine, but the rest of our experience was completely unacceptable. After waiting 35 minutes for the acai bowl, we reminded the cashier. She apologized, said she remembered, and promised to bring it right out. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited another 25 minutes (an hour total). When we went back up to check a second time, the cashier revealed she had forgotten to charge us for the bowl originally. More egregiously, she admitted that when she told her supervisor she was going to come explain the error to us, he told her not to say anything and wait to see if we came back, hoping we would just forget about it. Kitchen mistakes happen, and forgetting an item is human. But deliberately wasting an hour of a customer's time and choosing to ignore us rather than being upfront is unacceptable. Hiding an error in hopes that a guest gives up and leaves is terrible service. We won't be returning. I suggest you closely monitor your order to ensure your time isn't wasted. Came here for a casual bite and got the 6" Surfin Pig ($14). Went hot with ham, bacon, avocado, and provolone. Solid sandwich, really delicious and packed with flavor. Bread was warm, ingredients were fresh, and everything works especially well served hot. It is on the pricier side for a 6", but that's expected given the premium downtown location right by the bay. The views here are awesome, especially outdoors, and the playful beach-surfer vibe inside adds to the experience and makes it feel fun and relaxed. The service has seemed to go downhill here. They're friendly, but the length of time it takes for them to complete orders is concerning. I've been here twice in the last week when there hasn't been much foot traffic and on both accounts I've waited over 25 minutes (one day was a sandwich, the second was an açaí bowl and a terrible coffee). There were 4-5 people in the shop on both occasions, so it seems a bit odd that it would take this much time to complete an order for one person. read more

The bread was perfectly toasted, the turkey was stacked, and the melted Swiss tied everything together perfectly. Fresh tomato, avocado, and onion took it to the next level. I needed a quick breakfast before heading to the airport and stopped here. My husband got a burrito (forgot all that was in it) and I opted for a 50/50 acai bowl. I came on Wednesday afternoon. This was the closest restaurant I could find near my hotel. When we visited, the place was not busy yet, so we got to order our food quickly. I ordered a Woody sandwich and macaroni and cheese. The sandwich was okay. There were lots of lettuce and sauces, so I could barely taste the roast beef and bacon. The meat, vegetable, and sauce ratio was way off. Also, the bread got soggy because it had a lot of sauces. I wished they could have toasted the bread. Lastly, the macaroni and cheese could have been better. It was bland and tasted like the cheese was old. The macaroni shells were swimming in cheese, which made it unappetizing. Honestly, I only had a couple of bites of the mac and cheese and threw it away because of the taste. Overall, Beach Hut Deli is okay. GAVE ME THE WORST FOOD POISONING OF MY LIFE! I don't know if their kitchen is dirty and they cross contaminated chicken, or if they just don't cook their chicken well, but I got extremely sick off half a sandwich from here. Me and my boyfriend got sick hours after eating here, and it was the most insane food poisoning of my life. We called and asked to speak to the manager who was nonexistent, and they said he would call but never did. So I got the Hobie the Rueben and clam chowder. Probably one of the worst Rueben sandwiches I have had in a long time, it is hard to make a bad Rueben but they managed to do it. I loved this place! We came in on a cruise ship and this lovely place was open bright and early. The Beach Hut Blonde ale was some of our favorite beer in SD! Also, the ambiance is great and the staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. I will go here every time I am in SD- because it's a wonderful stop. While walking around we found this spot so we popped in for a drink! Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is so cool, chill and laid back. The atmosphere is exactly what you think it would be. It gives major beach vibes with all of the straw, openness and decor. Service: The servers were SO friendly, fun and they made for a good time. They all had personalities and it added to the allure of this place. Food/Drinks: We just got a couple of frozen drinks since this place just MAKES you want them with its vibe. Lol. It was exactly what I needed to keep the day going! Value: Like I said in the last review... A: It's California. B: It's San Diego. C: It's downtown San Diego. Lol. Expect to pay, but it honestly wasn't that bad. In conclusion, it was a good time! We weren't here for long, but we didn't need to be to have the amount of fun that we did. We got sandwiches and salads catered from here. We got an assortment of sandwiches and salads. I got 2 different sandwiches, they were both very good, very moist in comparison to what you normally get at a sandwich shop. I had the Surfin' Bird - Turkey, avocado, bacon and cream cheese, I didn't taste the cream cheese but it was definitely moist so i guess thats where it came from. I also had the Hobie - Salami, Pastrami, provolone and Italian dressing. Also very good but i preferred the Surfin' Bird a little more, maybe because it was more moist. They all came with mayo, mustard, pickles, tomato, onion lettuce, and pepperoncinis. I Liked the pepperoncini on some sandwiches but not others but they were very easy to take off. We also got 2 salads, the Chef Salad and the Super Salad. I only tried the Chef Salad with ranch dressing and it was delicious! It came with Ham, turkey, salami, cheddar and jack cheese, tomatoes, onions, pepperoncinis and topped with crumbled bacon and avocado. I enjoyed the salami and cheeses on the salad the most. I only really like salads when it has a lot of different ingredients on top and this one did not disappoint. read more
