Today was worse than yesterday. I have to say this is no longer my favorite place for breakfast in the Gaslamp. I was seated quickly, but again at a table that had not been thoroughly cleaned after previous guests. More than ten minutes before being offered water and coffee. Otherwise, the California Benedict was excellent. Service was courteous but not very attentive. I think my server had a lot of tables both inside the restaurant and outside on the patio. The line to get in wasn't bad, but once we were seated, the service was incredibly slow. It took a very long time for our food to come out, and while the food itself was decent, the service really brought the experience down. Our waitress only checked on us once during the entire meal. We waited so long for her to come back that I had to wave her down just to get her attention. At one point, we needed silverware and couldn't find our server, so I ended up grabbing it from the empty table next to us. Stopped by Broken Yolk Cafe while staying in the Gaslamp District, and the location couldn't have been more convenient, an easy, beautiful walk from our hotel. We sat outside, which made for a great start to the day. Our waitress was awesome, very attentive and checked in right on time without being overbearing. Food-wise, it was a bit of a mixed experience. I wasn't a fan of my omelet, which had loads of American cheese , but the blueberry muffin that came with the meal was a sweet surprise and really good. This was one of 2 breakfast spots that were recommended and this one did not disappoint. They do have a waiting list but we were seated right away so no issue there. I do recommend checking it before you go. It filled up fast. The menu is huge. I got biscuits n gravy eith fruit, my hubby got an omelet with fruit. By far the fruit cup was one of the best varieties I've ever gotten at a restaurant. We come here every year after the hot chocolate run. It's always a good experience. We get seated right away, the servers are always very nice and gove great service. I'm a very one dimensional when it comes to breakfast. Scramble eggs with cheese and a side of bacon. The bacon is always crispy and well done. We came here since the wait time for Gaslamp Breakfast Co. was over 2 hours. Broken Yolk disappoint! Food was decent. I ordered the strawberry Belgian waffle with the American breakfast combo. It came with hash browns, your choice of egg and sausage or bacon. The hash browns were crispy and delicious! The strawberry Belgian waffle was light and fluffy. I would say Broken Yolk is a step up from denny's but not as good as Gaslamp Breakfast Company. Service was excellent. We had a large party and they were able to accommodate us. The servers were attentive. There is both indoor and outdoor seating at the restaurant. The restaurant has ample seating. Parking is a bit tricky since it's in downtown. We found street parking, but a few of our friends paid for parking at a lot or parking garage. read more

I was very impressed with the options for a healthy fare. At first, I would have had the yogurt parfait but I hate nonfat or low fat Greek yogurt because I'm a full fat type of girl. I ordered an açaí bowl with the granola on the side. This menu item had the option to make it Vegan without the granola and honey to substitute sliced almonds and agave syrup. I've been volunteering at Comic-Con for 15 years, and breakfast at Broken Yolk has always been part of my routine, before entering the convention center and experiencing the Con. This year however, I just didn't get the same satisfaction after my breakfast. Although the service is exceptional, the food was bland. I had the French toast but it wasn't like the typical French toast. A few pieces seemed a little stale, and it didn't have that creamy cinnamony flavor that I'm used to with french toast. The bacon was cold, and not crunchy has bacon should be. I thought maybe it was just an off day, so I went back again this morning for breakfast, and I had an omelet with hash browns. Unfortunately it was the same experience, so I didn't finish my food. I think I'm going to need a new routine for breakfast unfortunately. read more

Place an order through their app for my birthday reward at the end of December. Choose to grab the churro French toast. I did try to place the order over the phone but they don't take the birthday reward over the phone, only take credit card. The reason why because when you place order through their app they charge you a fee to place an order. Wish I had time to come in and place the order but didn't have the time.
