While in LA for Anime Expo 2026, a group of us came to Roger Woods State Beach to take some pictures and soak up the sun after the first day at the convention. For a simple and quick dinner, Beach Side Cafe came through! There were a couple of tables outside of the window where we placed our orders, so we made sure to lock one of them down then order. It was a small operation so only a few workers were working, but they were friendly enough. Thankfully they accepted credit cards and cash so no worries about having to find an ATM. As far as I could tell, everything was made-to-order, so it took a little bit of time between ordering and receiving our food. Albeit I'll take hot and fresh over sitting under a heat lamp every time, so I didn't mind waiting. Looking at the menu, I saw pizza but if I'm being honest, I would stick with their burgers, sandwiches, chicken fingers. They also had a variety of sweet treats and ice cream. For dinner, I ordered a Malibu Crispy Chicken Sandwich and a churro for dessert along with a bottle of water. The sandwich was topped with lettuce, tomato, and onion and they asked if I'd like any sauce with it. I was impressed, the sandwich was pretty good and surprisingly filling! I could tell it was fresh from the fryer. The churro was also freshly made/cooked and was a nice treat to finish my meal. Prices weren't too bad, in my opinion, especially for where we are in 2026. What a pleasant surprise Beach Side Cafe turned out to be! Friendly enough staff with fresh, made-to-order food and a simple, yet focused, menu. If I spent another day at the beach and was in a pinch, I would not have an issue ordering food from here! read more

Ordered the chicken sandwich here yesterday and got really sick. It tasted like they use the same oil to fry the fish and chicken and my stomach doesn't take to fish well. The chicken tasted like a frozen Tyson patty possibly, not good at all. I am giving three stars for the benefit of the doubt this was 100% the culprit but either way the Sandwhich is not good. To the management I hope you take this into consideration and verify different oil is used for fish and chicken. The chicken Sandwhich was pretty cheap like $10 I recommend using higher quality ingredients and charging more. You are on the beach and basically in Malibu so please look into it. I was relaxing on the beach and looking for a nearby spot to grab a quick bite. This place was convenient since it was like a two minute walk from me. I ordered the chili cheese fries which were okay. They were $10 and the stand accepts both cash and card. The biggest plus was the location since you can just walk over from the beach. It's a decent option if you are looking for something quick and convenient while on the beach. read more

On a cool evening, I was craving a filling meal with a glorious view. I got just that when I visited this café and ordered the All Beef Hot Dog. It was the perfect meal since while I was enjoying it, I was able to enjoy the beachside views along with the beautiful ocean. I was happy and enjoyed the rest of the weekend evening. On my way from malibu to santa monica Pier, I stopped by this place. I thought that instead of eating another burger, maybe I should try something a little more healthy, so I ordered the fish and chips. Had I known what I was getting, I would have stuck to the burger. I got three pieces of battered fish that were drenched in oil. Oil was literally dripping off of them. The fries were soft and oily. One of the pieces of fishe was not even cooked all the way through and was rubbery. For nearly $16, it was the worst food I have ever had. In fact, it was worse than the burger I got almost 20 years ago at Joe's Greasy Spoon at a truck stop on I-84 in Pennsylvania. If I could give no stars, I would. I loved the convenience of this beach cafe! First off they take cash only. There is an ATM available for your convenience however it comes with a fee. The cafe has their prices listed which was helpful. They have a range of items-hamburger, fries, pizza, ice cream, chips, drinks, candy. We ordered fries and ice cream, it was a perfect snack for us. The fries were delicious. They were busy when I went on a weekend but the line goes fast, thank goodness because there is no shade on a hot day. They are located right next to the bathrooms and near the parking lot. They have a couple of tables with umbrellas for customers. They provide boxes for you to carry your items back with you if you are taking it back to the beach like I was. Awesome place, we will be back! read more

Located at the entrance of Will Rogers State Beach lies the Beach Side Cafe. It is true what other Yelpers have said about this place- no customer service, no napkins or utensils and only ketchup and mustard made readily available. Oh, and CASH ONLY. There is an ATM if you need it though. The prices are steep; we ordered a grilled cheese, fries and turkey sandwich and it cost $19. My fries were cold and soggy but the sandwiches were decent. The only thing this place has going for them is their location so if you're willing to walk a little farther South, I highly encourage you go to Perry's Cafe where the seating and condiments are ample and abundant. read more

I came here because I wanted to check this place out being so close to Palisades and not driving all the way down to the crowded beaches and super glad we came here. I had a nice delicious sandwich plus and neopolitan ice cream sandwich. Only surprise was you need CASH, and like a dork, I just brought my debit card. Lesson learned: ALWAYS BRING CASH. Menu here is shockingly amazing! I've been to beaches over Southern CA and most dive places only have limited options. Kudos to this place for having two sweet menus. Great options for food when on the beach! Portions are great too. CASH ONLY. Prices: A meal with Cheeseburger, fries, and drink is about $14. Burgers are about $7 plus $1 for any bacon or add ons. Burgers come with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. Ice cream starts at about $5. Fries are about $6 if you're just ordering a side, and the portion is huge. Food: All of my food was delicious. The fries are definitely frozen, and were a little overcooked, but still good. I enjoyed it all. Food is served in a handy uncovered box that you can easily walk back to your beach area. We were there on boxing day when it was very uncrowded. (We were order #4 when we arrived at noon.) Took about 10 minutes to get our food. The food certainly isn't great (there are even some items that I'd avoid) but it's nice to have something right on the beach, so that you don't have to leave and pay for parking again. This seemed like the only option when you do a spontaneous trip to the beach and forget to bring food, and I guess that's why they can get away with slow service. If there was an option to give this place a ZERO star rating, i genuinely would. The workers and manager have the absolute worst attitude problem. Good customer service here is definitely nonexistent. We asked the manager for napkins and he only gave us a SINGULAR napkin, when we asked for more he looked at us with a disgusting face as if giving a couple more napkins was going to make the cafe go bankrupt. Next, we had ordered 10 plates full of different foods, one including a salad. Instead of the manager apologizing for the inconvenience, he kept shouting "I was not the one who was helping you guys, i do not know you guys." We responded back asking for him not to shout and that all we wanted was for them to understand & apologize and he STILL continued to be rude and ended the conversation by calling us "NASTY people" & that out of everyone on the beach he does not care about us as customers, because they have more than enough.
