I love the location right on the water first of all. They finally remodeled and put some windows in so you can see the beautiful surroundings. Parking can get pretty bad at peak hours. Service can also be really slow. The food is good but also pretty expensive. $10.50 for a burger dip, sub onion rings for chips at $3.25..add cheese for a sum, and a cup of chowder at $4 something, and it adds up quickly to an expensive lunch ringing in at $20 and some change for one person! The fish and chips is consistently fantastic. They have clam chowder available on Fridays and Mondays, but it ain't great. The beer is cold. The people are a nice mix of old and young. Stop at Steamer's across the way after your dinner for some ice cream! Lost 2 stars for inflated prices, parking, and slow service. There is a reason I don't make it down there all that much. Monday's you can get a pitcher of Coors Light for under $10 and Sunday's, Bud Light for the same price. There aren't very many other options for dining in this area. read more

Excellent fish & chips. Tall younger dark haired server was rude. I have been to a lot of restaurants and never had such a rude server. When we left, we exited out a door that others had used. Once we got around the front of the establishment, this rude server came out the front door and told us next time to exit out the bar. Well, if want us to follow your directions how about some signs saying this is not an exit? Another patron, perhaps a frequent visitor, kept me from going back inside to have words with this person. He said they have Covid rules to follow. Umm. I was not in any violation of any Covid rule. This is a place that one would stumble upon. Tucked away on the water side of Tacoma near Titlow beach - it's really a place only locals know about. The place is too nice to be a dive bar but not big enough to be much more. A jukebox blares music over the speakers while entertainment options is a small coin op pool table in one corner, a Big Game Buck hunter on the other side of the bar, a big screen TV in the middle of the floor and a couple of pull tab machines spread around. I like the home town feel of this place. But I couldn't say I was a fan of the patrons. Maybe it was because they knew we weren't "locals/regulars" but I can see people just looking and staring, while another was vocal enough to point and laugh and call us stupid for playing pull tabs. And another older woman mocked us by coming up to us and saying "what are you boys up to? have you won any money yet?" and then she and her two other friends just laughed as she sat back down. Obnoxious and rude we finished our beers and left. It's a little disappointing because I wanted to like this place. I love supporting local businesses. And contrary to what these reviews say - this place had no more than 15 people on a saturday night. Not to mention out of the 5 reviews only two people have some what of credibility as the other 3 only have two reviews written. I certainly would not refer to this place as a dive bar like many others do. It has too much personality to fall into a dive category. The food is tasty, the drinks are great and the staff really makes it welcoming. The barkeep, Mark, is always quick with a joke. Massive beer signage yet fresh atmosphere gave this joint the perfect clean dive-bar feel. The last time I was at The Beach Tavern on Titlow Beach, let's be brutally honest, I was in a drunken stupor and wasted as all hell. This time The Beach Tavern was all new to me. Somewhat recently reconfigured for an outstanding alcohol collection, the bar is well kept and fully padded. Not only is the bar fully and comfortably padded, but the barstools are just the perfect width for some pleasant ass time. But wait! The padding doesn't stop at just the bar area. The walls are padded, the booths are padded, and the posts running down the aisles are padded. A fellow barfly quickly announced that at The Beach everyone was pure, unadulterated crazy - hence the padded walls. Alongside the bar-top beer nuts, beef jerky, and cashews for sale comes a special bottled sauce that intrigued me to no end. It was simply called, "The Sauce Enhancer." What the hell? I had to try it. After dousing some of this special sauce into my Bloody Mary I conclude that yes, this locally made, not found in stores "Sauce Enhancer" does in fact enhance your sauce. Go figure. Only at The Beach Tavern have I found this economy-friendly (free) "sauce enhancing" option, and for that I love The Beach Tavern. Well, that and everything about the place is pretty damn cool. read more

Its a good bar a lot of locals having fun. Close to the water will be going back this summer to check it out a little more. The food was the average food and average cost for a little bar. This place was decent. It has that small town feel in Tacoma so I liked that, and the view couldn't be beat either. Very friendly and attentive server even though the place was packed out with a local crowd that only provided a few unwelcome stares. I had the meatball sandwich and it was average, as were the happy hour tacos and tots. All food that could have easily been prepared at home in 10 minutes. The beer was reasonably priced, not a huge selection. If I go back it will be because I am in the area and want a cheap beer on the water, in one of my favorite areas of Tacoma. Literally the worst service I've ever had. We waited by the door to be seated when the sign clearly said "please wait to be seated." Nobody bothered to help us until a customer said something to one of the servers, but he turned around and just went back to what he was doing. 15 min go by and we were finally seated outside. We sat outside for 20 min and no one came to take our drink orders. We thought maybe they just forgot so we moved inside to get a table. Even after getting a table they didn't take our drink order for another 15 min. Once receiving our drinks we waited to order food but again we were just forgotten about. After nursing our drinks an hour had already passed and we decided to just leave and pay the check. Surprise! They took forever just to get us that. If the bar was busy I would get it, but it was a quiet night. It seems they only care about the regulars and don't care at all about anyone else. I even seen an old couple who were getting frustrated because they were being treated the same way. I was really excited to try their food because I've heard good things but I don't enjoy going to a place and sitting around for an hour and a half just for 1 drink. What I like most about this place is the location, the prices for beer are very good. I bought a pitcher of bud light and the price was $8.50. Wow the first place where a pitcher was lower than ten dollars. I was amazed. Next was the location, next to the beach. Parks and if you live near, close to your home. I will be a regular at this place. The atmosphere is very low key, mainly older couple with there friends coming in having a drink and some food. I went here for the first time the other day. Pros: The bartender was nice enough and the building looked how you would expect a tavern to look. I didn't try the food but I've heard it's pretty good. Cons: It seemed like a "regulars" club. The first bartender didn't say much to me, just asked me what I wanted to drink then walked away. (The second bartender was very nice) I feel as tho if I was a regular the first bartender would have been a little more friendly because she was very chatty and friendly to the people next to me. Another con is I wasn't asked what type of liquor I wanted. I don't like well liquor and like I said before bartender #1 didn't seem to want to interact with me. At the risk of putting this place on the proverbial map and making it harder to find parking, I'm going to give a great big shout out to the Beach Tavern at Titlow Beach. This place has character...character AND characters! Don't come out if you are looking for snooty micro brews...you'll get the tried and true traditional beers that you might expect at a Tacoma bar...and it will be served to you with authentic Tacoma hospitality and a smile. The interior makes me smile, with it's pleather booths and dive bar chairs and tables, but if you get there at the right time, perch yourself on a barstool by the window and bask in the view the sound drinking a nice, cold adult beverage. What I can't tell you is how the food is...we don't find ourselves down there as often as we would like, but we get tempted by their yummy Facebook posts almost every day. There is always a ton of regulars seated at the bar but I've Always gotten as good as service As they do. Great place to watch football. Parking is tricky if it's busy. Just moved close by and wanted to love this place. I've been here twice and both times was extremely disappointed with the service. Within 5 minutes of sitting down at this place the waitress was extremely rude, and seemed to inconvenienced to have been asked questions like "what's good here?" And "what local beers do you have on tap?". Eventually 10 mins of her being rude I got up and left and went to eat across the street. Waited at least 20 minutes for our check and had to go up to the bar and wait another five minutes just to get service. We ordered fried oysters and the prime dip. Very mediocre food. Think dennys quality. Overpriced for the quality and portions. My boyfriend also ordered a bloody mary. I didnt try it but it looked disgusting. Came in a short glass (which ive never seen before for a bloody mary) and the veggie accompaniments all looked old and wilty. I should have taken a picture because it was a sad sight.
