My husband took me to this beachside restaurant for my birthday. The setting was lovely even though we couldn't see the ocean as we arrived after dark. Service was excellent and was fine dining service without pretense. But the food was not as good as I expected for the price. Crab cakes were flat and charred and not lump crab but more what you would find at any seafood place on the coast. There was a thick sauce over them. I had the grouper special. Grouper was slightly overcooked and hot, the two shrimp that it came with were barely warm and overcooked. They also looked like they had freezer burn on them. Smoked Gouda grits and sundried tomato sauce was the best part but overpowered the fish. The white asparagus was slightly too crispy to eat. My husband got the tuna which we were warned would be rare inside (we love sushi and had no problem), but then it came out medium well. Our waitress was quick to talk to the chef and he fixed it right away. That was much appreciated. We both had wedge salad. Dressing was a bit thin. Bread was very tasty. My glass of rose was not a great choice due to how heavily seasoned and sauce heavy our dishes were. The key lime pie was very good, so that was a nice finish. They gave us a scoop of the Corleone ice cream which was strangely earthy. Not sure that the $40-$45 a plate was justified, but some of the food was good. I think I would have appreciated more drink choices. They had wine and mixed drinks (and a full bar) but i would have liked more interesting choices or a signature beverage or something. I booked this restaurant for our anniversary dinner through opentable. I have never come across a restaurant that asks for your credit card details to reserve a table. If you do not show up they charge you $25; however, if you change your mind and cancel in advance they do not charge you a single penny. When we arrived, we were immediately seated on the patio as requested. The views were amazing from the patio. They have no vegetarian entree options on their menu, when I told our server, she was gracious enough to have the chef come out and talk to us. The chef asked us about our likes and dislikes about the flavors or vegetables. The chef than whipped up a few vegetarian dishes for us. One was pasta, one was some greens, one was made up of some grains and the last one was an eggplant dish. The eggplant dish was okay. Rest of the dishes were good. This place has a very intimate vibe. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner, and the servers coordinated everything perfectly. Definitely sit outside on the balcony! My only grief is that the balcony gate is high, so a shawty like me can't see the view without added height (i.e. sit up straight and clench butt for added height). Food and wine was amazing. The bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar came out for appetizers. Then we ordered the sirloin and filet mignon. There was SO MUCH FOOD! it is expensive, but it is a lot. My wife and I were lucky enough to have the grandparents watch the kiddo and I wanted to take her on a swank date night. I saw a picture that said this place was classy A.F. and I couldn't describe it better so I will plagiarize. First of all the atmosphere, location and decor couldn't be better. We had reservations for outside seating and had an amazing view. Our waiter Michael made the evening amazing as did all the staff. To start we had the eggplant appetizer per Michael's reccomendation and he was spot on. My wife had the lobster tails and I had the shrimp and grits. We also had brussel sprouts and lobster mac n cheese as a side. It was probably one of the best meals/experiences I've had in a long time. Dinner was amazing but I dare say the brussel sprouts could have stole the show. In an open and honest review we would pass on the mac n cheese again but the entrees were spot on. For dessert we had creme brulee and cheesecake. Get both. Please. Also the espresso was a nice night cap and my wife said the rose' was great. Each lady gets a rose after dinner and Michael even gave us an extra for my daughter. All I can say is I will put returning on my bucket list. read more

Seated at a table for two overlooking the beach, we admired the rustic, cozy dining room and the view. Located in the Henderson Park Inn B&B, I can see why voters on Trip Advisor rated this place #1 for dining in Destin. Our waiter presented an amuse bouche - a grouper fritter - as we enjoyed the excellent table bread with a parmesan, herb, olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip. For appetizers, we had the chopped salad and the kung pao shrimp. The shrimp were huge and they were lightly fried. The sauce was sweet and tasty but overly salty. When our waiter mentioned that the red snapper special and the lobster entree were the two best seafood offerings, I decided to choose the lobster tails. They were excellent and beautifully presented, along with an edible orchid! The meat was so flavorful and plentiful. I substituted the asparagus for brussel sprouts, which were very well-seasoned. The balsamic glaze on the plate served as a nice accompanying sauce for the veggies. The saffron rice worked well with this dish but oversalting was an issue with this as well. I also tasted the pork chop and the andouille-cheddar mac and cheese. Both sounded better than they actually tasted. The chop was nicely grilled and the bourbon and bacon barbecue sauce had a bold flavor, but the actual meat did not taste seasoned at all. Similarly, the flavors in the mac and cheese could've been better developed. Dessert for us included the "chocolate of the day" which was chocolate butterscotch mousse pie and the "cheesecake of the day" which was peanut butter cookie dough. Both slices were massive and very rich. We really enjoyed them. Service was very attentive from start to finish and prices were reasonable for the atmosphere and for the quality of the food. What a disappointing dinner at Beach Walk! We have been fans of this restaurant over the years, but did not have the best night. I realize there is always a chance for an off night at any restaurant and this was one of those nights. We brought friends with us who are from Boston and enjoy good restaurant experiences. I made the mistake to go overboard with my compliments of Beach Walk before we sat down, than the problems started. We were served water right away, but that was it for the next 20 minutes. I had to go the the hostess to ask for service. The manager came over and said there would be someone coming to our table. The waiter came and took our drink order and we had to wait another 20 minutes before that came. I had to ask the manager for better service, again. And, the restaurant was not that busy. The waiter took our order and when the food came he did not know what plate was to go to which person, and there were only four of us. Any top restaurant must have wait staff that is aware of what each of their customers have ordered to place the right dish in front of the right customer. The waiter never came back to see if we were satisfied with our meals the entire meal, another rookie mistake. Our friends both had the snapper that they felt was too dry. A very disappointing night for my Birthday Dinner that our Boston friends paid the bill for a birthday present. When we walked out I reviewed all these thoughts with the manager and his response was to ask for two other waiters he felt were the best. I asked how long our waiter has been with them and he said a month and a half. My suggestion to Beach Walk is to do a better job with knowing the performance level of their wait staff when they are new. This restaurant has been known as a top restaurant in Destin for a long time to have and should not have this type of issue no matter how short a time their employee has been with them. We made our reservations 3 weeks ago. Took forever to get them on the phone. We show up with reservation in hand and what happens? They can't fulfill the reservation we made. So disappointed. My husband and I made reservations to visit this location on our honeymoon. This was our "special night out" while on our vacation since multiple reviews say it's one of the best in Destin. Let me tell you, this is NOT one of the best in Destin. Upon arrival, a group of 4 was complaining very loudly to the host about their lack of prompt seating. They had waited 20 minutes past their reservation time. My husband and I were upset they were upset (because honestly we were on cloud 9!) so we offered to buy their drinks on the patio. When arriving on the patio (where they said we could purchase beverages), we were then told the bartender quit serving for the night. Literally no big deal, we were so happy to be out at a nice meal celebrating, we let it go and went back to wait for our table. We were sat a few minutes after this. We planned to order two appetizers, get two salads, and split two meals. The server took our drink and appetizer order and mentioned she knew it was our honeymoon and was excited to celebrate with us. After that, we sat and waited FORTY MINUTES for beverages. Our water was dry, no one said anything, and we just waited. Once 40 minutes hit, we decided that they did not want our patronage and we requested our check to go. Not sure what we expected to pay for since we didn't have anything at that time. Our drinks finally came and the (assumed manager?) visited our table. He literally told us that there was a server for the patio that was not doing anything and if we requested the patio we may have been taken care of sooner. No one told us that prior to seating or during our reservations. Our server (or manager) also did not ask this server who wasn't doing anything to help out inside. We are beyond disappointed. Both my husband and I spent YEARS in the service industry and know that is not how customers should be treated, especially on our honeymoon and at a "high class" establishment. My husband happens to be black and I am staying optimistic that the way we were treated has nothing to do with that, but I'm unsure what other excuse the restaurant would give. We had the good fortune of having Candace serve us, she was perfect. Request a spot outside on the back porch so you can hear the ocean. We will definitely come back. The menu offerings were interesting. The hotel staff needed a lesson in hospitality, didn't welcome us or act friendly in any way. We ordered the mixed green salad which was unfortunately far too sweet to enjoy with candied pecans and a maple dressing. The charred caesar was excellent. The snapper was very good, but combined with the risotto and truffle fries quite rich. The grouper was excellent, but the potato cake was too dry and the sauce too sweet. Dessert options were not interesting to us so we did not try them (key lime pie and chocolate marshmallow bread pudding). They had a full bar, but the drink menu itself was quite small. Overall nice dinner spot, no specific complaints to share but for the price, the food not being perfect, and the nonexistent welcome not quite 5 star. read more

Lovely small restaurant right on the beach. We started with the grilled romaine salad, and it was excellent. It was the highlight of our meal. The dressing was creamy, and the fresh parmesan elevated the salad. I ordered the snapper dish. It comes with a beurre blanc sauce, but the sauce was on the bottom of the plate and I assume absorbed by the risotto because I only tasted it once or twice. It was ok, but at this price point and small menu an entree should be great. My husband had the blackened shrimp pasta dish, and it had no flavor. How blackened shrimp and a vodka sauce end up flavorless is odd, so I wonder if the kitchen was just having an off night. Since our entrees were so lackluster we didn't order dessert. read more

As a local I am sad to say a one-star review is GENEROUS for our experience at the Beach Walk Cafe bar tonight. A terrible, bitter margarita barely drinkable and a domestic beer for $23?? After wincingly sipping the margarita waiting for bartender to check in with us, I told her it was terribly bitter and asked if there was something she could add to it...no verbal response, no apology, barely any eye contact, just a squeeze of simple syrup and she walked away! And the drink was still terrible. The bartender was barely available to ask for a remedy so I drank it slowly enough the ice melted and it watered down enough to stomach. She finally checked back in with us and I said no I can't take another one. We waited FOREVER to try and check out which made us even more frustrated so when we did, I asked-the margarita was so terrible I would love if you could comp it. She walked away! No apology, no response. Next thing we know a manager is smiling at us all cheery, fake, and couldn't have been more patronizing. A terrible experience with the product, the service, and management. Such a shame! We enjoyed the view, paid the $23 and won't return. Unfortunate indeed. Owners: please provide some customer service training for management and employees! read more

This special menu was perfect for a romantic Christmas dinner. Flavor profile was so well balanced and the presentation, beautiful. First..,the good...amazing view and friendly and attentive staff. Now the not so good...the food.. we both had fried shrimp with chili sauce recommended by server. Shrimp was not fully cooked and it just tasted bad. Grouper Vince was fishy and that's the signature item. We heard there's a new chef. This place has an old southern true authentic beauty to it. I had my reception here outside right by the beach called toes in the sand. We had a gorgeous view surrounded by torches and candles as our light with the sunset in the background. You can also choose to sit inside or outside on the patio next to fire pits. They even gave us super cozy blankets since it was a, like chilly. The food was delicious the service was even better. By far, this was one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had. The only reason I didn't flat walk out was because of my wife. But, I'll get to that in a second. (Reservations was at 7:30pm) 7:20: Arrived! Had the NICEST Valet attendant ever. This guy was super friendly, very chill and immediately set me at ease. I think I gave the guy a $10 but I wish I had given him a $20. 7:25. Walked in and was immediately seated! Again, this was experience was starting out phenomenal. As we were sat, it's impossible to not be welcomed by a beautiful view on the patio. (We asked to be seated outside.) 7:40: The waitress showed up 15 minutes later and took our drink order. Even if it was only 15 minutes, I was okay with this. My mood was still good. 7:55: Another 15 minutes pass and the waitress shows up with our drinks. At this point, my wood was starting to dwindle. But! My wife, still being in her good mood and wanting to avoid any "negatives vibes" said it was fine. Afraid we wouldn't see her for another 15 minutes, we gave her our food order. 8:15: The waitress shows back up and gives us... bread? This was crazy to me that we'd be here 45-50 minutes and now she was giving us bread? I didn't even know they served bread! I mean, I saw the cute olive oil container sitting in the center of our table, but still, this ridiculously. While there, I asked if she could refill our drinks because we hadn't seen her for 20 minutes. 8:30: Drinks are refilled! And the waitress assured us our food was on the way. She explained that the chicken is baked to order so that was what was taking so long. I guess hour wait times were normal here. At this point, I was ready to walk out. But! Again, my wife told me it was fiiiiiiiine, that we dressed up, (and my two daughters 13 & 16) and she'd read that the food was exceptional so the wait was worth it. Though, since it was 8:30 and I was starving, at this point, I should have asked for another slice of bread. 8:50: Food shows up! And check this out! So, another waitress shows up and only brings my daughters their food. But! She holds both plates in her hands because she cannot serve the plates until our waitress shows up and she apparently went a different way. All of us look at each other awkwardly. 8:55: Our waitress shows up with our food and my daughters get their plates as do we. And the food is? Just okay. To say I was super disappointed was an understatement. The risotto was so el dente to the point were I feel it was like undercooked rice. The steak was... eh. My daughter didn't like her chicken and I had to switch plates with her. The lobster mac was okay, I guess. Not something I'd write home about. 9:15: Yeah, waiting on our check. At this point, I ignore my wife, go to the front desk and ask if I can just pay them because I'm ready to leave. They inform me they found my waitress and send her to our table with our check. 9:20: Waitress shows up! Only, instead of handing an annoyed family our check, she instead cleans up our table. I almost snapped at her, but somehow found my inner strength, to give us our damn check. She did so, only I didn't let her leave. Who knows when I would have seen her again. I gave her our card telling her to cash us out. 9:30: Finally, we were able to leave this place. My once good mood had died something fierce. On the way to the condo, we stopped at Mimmo's pizza for dessert. Now that was nice. Go there instead. read more

Don't waste your time or money anywhere else. The food here is amazing coupled with fresh air, open skies, sunset views, and the sound of the waves crashing there is nothing more romantic. A quick rundown of our meal: don't skip the crab cake or the tomato soup, pass on the Caesar salad, bring your appetite for the venison as it is pretty bit and you won't want to leave any on the plate. If you want a perfectly seasoned and cooked piece of meat opt for the filet. Just the right size accompanied by the best asparagus I've ever had and some seriously delicious Mac n cheese.
