    Chicken Fried Steak

What a nice spot for breakfast. The staff is wonderful! Our waitress was so nice, down to earth and fun. Hubby had the chicken fried steak and loved it. I didn't try it because I was too busy tearing up my BLT and fries. The fries were crispy and salted to perfection. There was a decent amount of bacon on my sandwich which had a perfect smoky flavor. I'm already planning to come again on my next trip to Wichita!

Ah, The Beacon--a place that promises to guide hungry sailors to a warm meal, instead leaves you a little confused, like finding a food in your sock drawer--totally unexpected, probably not where it belongs, but somehow... not mad about it? Let's start with the shining light: Dana, the server. She was a real lighthouse in the storm--bright, steady, and the only thing keeping this place from sinking into total chaos. She was friendly, fast, and somehow unfazed by it all. The food? Surprisingly solid! Like, "Mom made this after church" good. The coffee? That coffee didn't wake me up--it interrogated me. If I had just judged it on Dana and the breakfast alone, I'd be leaving five stars and a heartfelt haiku. But alas, the tide turned. No chicken for the chicken and waffles... No cinnamon rolls. Which begs the question: what exactly is The Beacon shining on if not cinnamon rolls? The floor was so gritty it felt like we'd be exfoliated by the time we reached our table. And speaking of tables--we seated ourselves because apparently the host was lost at sea. And the bathroom? Let's just say it didn't pass the vibe check. Think: Alcatraz meets 7/11 bathroom. Still, The Beacon has charm--like a slightly haunted nautical museum that serves bacon. Would I come back? Maybe. Would I bring a flashlight, hand sanitizer, and emotional support? Definitely.

My 16 year old tore up the breakfast shoe this morning. We love The Beacon. It's a Wichita staple. The service is always consistent. Friendly staff, efficient, reliable- we love it!! The environment is welcoming and comfortable!!

I've lived here all my 67 years, and have eaten at The Beacon lots of times. This morning I ate breakfast here. Something has changed. The only thing hot was scrambled eggs and ham. Country potatoes & biscuits/gravy barely even warm. Husbands hash browns had a disgusting taste to them. I'm going to be calling the owner this week to find out what has changed.

Stopped by on a weekday after the lunch crowd to have an extremely late breakfast/brunch meal. We were greeted and seated promptly and ordered within 5 minutes. The waitstaff wasn't the friendliest compared to some other similar spots in Wichita, but because I live in NYC, that didn't bother me. We ordered an egg breakfast, which the waitress helped me to choose since I am vegetarian, and my boyfriend had an egg, ham, English muffin breakfast. Both were served with hash browns. The serving size was nice; our coffee was always refilled. Overall, it was a nice experience for authentic diner.

First time here and I've lived in the area all my life. Should've came sooner! Was busy but seated quickly. Very attentive staff. Food came quickly. Nice and hot. My favorite breakfast any where is B&G and theirs is at the top of my list now. Very reasonable prices. Definitely be back!

I definitely would visit this restaurant again. the burrito that the ordered was very flavorful and filling. I would order this again but switch up on the potatoes. The potatoes did not taste very good to me, unfortunately. The bacon cheeseburger tasted great for a burger! I was a huge fan of the fries they served with it. I think this place gives big servings for not a high price. The service was great. The server was very friendly and attentive. I would recommend trying this place out! they have lots of great options for either breakfast or lunch!

    Check those prices!

I had occasion to live in Wichita Kansas for a period of time. One of the charms and redeeming qualities of the city is, lack of pretense. It's like going back in time. Everything is simpler, less expensive and easy. That includes alot of diners where you feel like you've stepped back in time. The Beacon serves up basic breakfast for unbelievably reasonable prices. I'd put there food up against any I've ever had. Hope they are fairing well during the pandemic.

This is real, home made, just like mom's breakfast food. It's the real deal. Not stuffy, not fancy but good and filling.

Our server was Lexi, and typically I judge the service by how long it takes the server to refill the water. My water cup never went empty, she was on top of it. Lexi also kept an excellent conversation, very knowledgeable of the history of the building, the starting of the restaurant and anything you needed to know on the menu. Absolute superstar! Time to order and food to table was minimal, food is delicious and the restaurant uses local suppliers where they can, so it supports local growers. The inside has a beautiful art deco vibe going and the lighting is dimmed so it sets the mood. The music isn't loud, so you have the subtle sounds of other people talking, and the hustle and bustle of the kitchen staff working. Overall one of my most enjoyable experiences for a first time here in Wichita. This is definitely a place I will be recommending to everyone, and be coming back to from now on.

Instead, they squash four people in one of those half booths with a tiny table. Service was subpar until a guy came by and noticed and started helping and taking over. The cheeseboard was not worth the money. I've had a lot better ones as Scotch and sirloin for same price or less. Told the waitress it was my daughter's birthday and she did not even say happy birthday. Lemonade refills should not be $1.50. Needs to have seasonal offerings or expand their menu. Gets boring after a while. Please make something that doesn't have garlic in it and also pay attention when your customer tells you that you do not want onions in your salad.

First, the positives. The lobby is beautiful, clean, and welcoming. The restaurant looks very nice... although after seeing the menu prices, my wallet politely declined the invitation. The rooms themselves are perfectly decent and clean. Now let's discuss the pillows. Whoever designed these fiberfill monstrosities clearly has a grudge against necks. They've been hugged into submission by thousands of guests before me and have evolved into random clumps of stuffing with absolutely no interest in supporting a human head. Sleeping on one is like cuddling a sack of marshmallows that lost the will to live. If you're booking a room, I'd recommend the North Tower if possible. The South Tower gets blasted by the afternoon sun, and those rooms definitely run warmer. The fitness center is... unique. It's surrounded by glass. If you've always dreamed of doing cardio while strangers judge your treadmill form like you're in a zoo exhibit, congratulations--this is your place. If you prefer exercising without an audience, maybe just go for a walk outside. The indoor pool exists. That's about the nicest thing I can say. It's tiny. More "oversized bathtub" than "resort oasis." Each room has a refrigerator, which is great. But if you brought leftovers or meal prep that needs heating, prepare for a pilgrimage. There is exactly ONE microwave for the entire hotel, conveniently located near the front desk. You'll march from whichever tower you're staying in, microwave your food, and then stand there while the security camera politely reminds you every few seconds with a cheerful DING! DING! DING! that yes, it absolutely knows you're standing there waiting for your Hot Pocket. Now... let's talk about the real MVP of this hotel. The shower. I honestly don't remember the North Tower having the same setup, but the South Tower had a removable handheld showerhead with multiple spray settings, enough hot water to melt glaciers, and water pressure strong enough to strip paint. For the first time in my life, I was convinced I had actually rinsed every molecule of shampoo and conditioner out of my hair. Ladies... one word of caution. After washing your more delicate regions, resist the temptation to switch that showerhead to "Power Wash." Trust me. Some things were never meant to experience that much hydraulic force. Unfortunately, the shower wasn't perfect. Even with the drain fully open, the tub steadily filled with water. By the end of my shower I was standing in what felt like a small freshwater lake creeping toward my knees. The bathroom also had an odd issue. I had to keep the bathroom door closed because there was a constant sound of running water coming from the vent above the toilet. Whether it was plumbing from another room or something else, it sounded like someone upstairs had been taking the world's longest shower. Overall, this DoubleTree has a nice lobby, decent rooms, friendly amenities, and one absolutely legendary shower. Fix the pillows, add a few microwaves, unclog the tub drains, and maybe give us gym-goers a little privacy, and this place would be an easy recommendation. I've decided I'm taking away stairs because the air-conditioning anymore because I'm laying down and sleeping and he wants to shut off and the TV did the same automatic deductions I only took away one star I should take away all the stars
